Staff was courteous and helpful. Rooms weren’t ready upon arrival. We didn’t get our room until past 5:00 pm. Rooms and facilities could use a little more upkeep. There were areas in room that were dusty. Overall the beautiful and peaceful setting made it a great experience.

Beautiful hotel, thoughfully decorated. Great cuisine and cocktails. Located at a beautiful, empty, sandy beach. We loved it.
Please don’t expect a quick service like in the US, bring some time, relax, and enjoy this paradise. It’s totally worth it.

Great staff, beach was beautiful, food was very good, although expensive. Resort is secluded. Grounds are a bit run down, especially the driveway and parking. A lot of bugs, especially ants and mosquitoes, even in the rooms.

Stay elsewhere

Very disappointing experience. Reserved a room with 3 beds and air conditioning. Upon arrival we were shown to our room and 2 of the beds were upstairs with no AC and no fan. With it being over 100° during the day it was impossible to sleep in the upstairs area as we are accustomed to sleeping in AC and paying $200 per night for a unit with AC. We could have easily booked a hostel at a fraction of the cost.

Sadly that's not the worst part. After a long day of travel I was ready for rest but when I pulled the sheets back I found rat poop all over the bed. I called the front desk and was assured someone would come by and change the sheets. After waiting 45 mins no one showed. I called 3 more times with no result. I then went to the desk in person. At this point they sent someone with me with new sheets. Clearly we didn't want to stay another night but after 2 hours of this it was now 10pm and we didn't have much of a choice for that night. The next morning we talked with Elmer, the manager, he was aware of our situation and agreed to refund our money. He said it would be 3 days for the refund. Now after 14 days we have received no refund and Elmer has said in emails that he is not refunding us our entire stay. This is unacceptable.

Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere. The beds are unsanitary and they are dishonest.

It is a beautiful place but the staff and service is terrible. We had to wait until 5,30 for our room. Food is good, expensive for here. Staff is very slow, dont clean up, no maid service. They act like we are inconvenience to them. Piss poor management. Very disapointed in lack of service.

You cannot see the beach from the rooms, despite being described as beachview.
The property is fantastic; the beach is empty with nice white sand, but the rooms are very basic.
Recommend having a car as the hotel is isolated

Nice rustic resort, try to get the room with AC!

the good:
- Friendly and available staff (Derling, Ismael, Silvia). The admin manager (Elmer Ruiz) was very understanding and appreciative of my feedback.
- Very nice decoration, especially main cottage with the restaurant and waiting area.
- Bungalows are individual 2-story cottages some with a fan and some with AC. My bungalow had a fan, enough for ventilation because there is no TV and not enough artificial light to read, I spent most time outside. My room had a mosquito net, which did not close properly, which is more or less fine. Bring insect repellent.
- Several activities like bicycle riding and horse riding which a plus (Francisco the caretaker was excellent).

the bad:
- The pool water was green and turbid, not so inviting but other guests didn't seem to mind
- The hotel needs more direct paths to the beach, guests need to step over broken sticks and branches, dry leaves, to reach the sand or walk all the way through the main cottage.
- My bungalow: Shower water pressure was quite low so showering took a while (not so eco friendly)
- My bungalow: need of maintenance, some loose and rusty screws at knee height for injury and risk of tetanus.
- My bungalow: No WiFi, there are many APs but not all APs were working.

the ugly:
- My bungalow: had 2 bats inside, and bats carry rabies, therefore this is a public health hazard. Front desk and hotel management didn't realize the public health issue.

For all these points, I cannot give the hotel more than 3 stars.

The hotel lobby is absolutely gorgeous. The staff is nice and courteous. The food is very good but more expensive for cocktails and dining in. Other restaurants are far and the road is not very nice. The secluded and private beach is a few steps away and has the most beautiful sunsets. They have a bomb fire on the beach at night and security is present. The rooms are typical open style with netting with a really unique outdoor shower. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Spectacular location!!!!!
Great staff and very nice facility.

Understand this is kinda civilized ‘roughing it’.
The thatch roof bungalows will have normal stuff falling inside with wind.

The bathroom courtyards are awesome, but a small bit of regular insecticide is needed.

I strongly recommend getting a bedroom with A/C, even if you do not want to use it... it’ll mean a better bedroom and sleeping experience... the bedroom ceiling will be solid (not thatch) and as insect free as is possible in a tropic location.

I would definitely return... great experience!!!

A beautiful place for relaxation and recuperation

We spent three nights in this most beautiful location and were thoroughly looked after by the kind and attentive staff. The beach was deserted and perfect for walking and watching the sun set. I liked the idea that the hotel is aiming to minimise their carbon footprint and happily slept without feeling the need for air conditioning or use of the fan, simply with windows wide open listening to the waves crash on the shore. In short, our three day break was perfect!

Relaxed and nice, but remote and pricy

The hotel and the area is amazingly beautiful and relaxed. I loved the free surf/body board and the beach as well as the bungalow and the hangout area.
The negative things I have to say is that it was quite expensive with the food and their taxi services they offered was way overpriced. It was also a very difficult location to reach. But if you want a relaxed place to enjoy beach and surf as well as are not on a budget, this is the place to go!

An Experience

We wanted to stay a few days on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua, but away from crowded beaches and this place fit the bill. We were often the only ones on the beach. Sadly, sometimes the locals will kill the turtles for their eggs when they come up on the sand to lay them, and we witnessed this on our final day. We enjoyed the food on offer and the little touches that were everywhere around the property. LOVED the outside shower in our outdoor bathroom, which was very private, and there was an indoor toilet in the upper level of our cabana. Crashing waves lulled us to sleep each night.
Pros: on the beach, no crowds, amazing staff (especially Mario and the other young bartender/waiter whose name we never caught), horses, privacy, and good food.
Cons: no AC (although the breeze from the ocean almost made up for this), slippery stairs due to the highly polished wood, wimpy pillows (we actually added the two from the beds upstairs), and a long bumpy drive on dirt road for the last few kilometres to get there. The outside toilet was swarmed by ants at night which may also be off-putting to some. Thus was not an issue during the day.

Don’t Bother

During my stay the hotel lost power every single day, for at least half the day with no explanation or help from the staff. I’m not exactly sure how you run a hotel without electricity? This place is very difficult to get to, you have to have an suv to get to this very remote location and even then you will question it somewhere along the 1.5 hour drive down the access “road”. Other highlights include no hot water, very uncomfortable beds, maids that don’t show up to clean and constant bug bites throughout the night. Save yourself the trouble.

Eco-hotel needs maintanance

Hotel is in need of deep maintanance: woodwork, electrical outlets, rust is settled. Gardens and particular inner gardens where the shower is located seem like there is no one caring for them. Food is ok but overpriced; 20 US charge for beach service on drinks seems too much

\"Too Close for Comfort\"

This hotel has alot of things going for it. It's near the ocean, has charming cottages with thatched rooves and a beauttiful dining area that looks out onto the grounds. The staff was generally very unresponsive to requests or complaints until we began to become overtly irritated. They also hung around us much too much interrupting conversations multiple times during meals.
There was some good food but since the hotel was empty, they allowed things to deteriorate like the pastas. Then some things were overcooked. The manager and his assisant tried to be helpful, even driving us to a volcanic soaking pool. In short one waiter of two was very good while the other continually added charges onto our bill even when we were told they were gratis. He hung aroung us even when we told him we were done with our order.
The room was kept clean although there was no air conditioning, T.V,Hot Water and there was no laundry service. After 8 days we were told that thet would do a special favor for us and wash 10 items.
There was no transportation and terrible roads all around us so taxis charged a premium which made it difficult to go anywhere. We were the only guests for most of our stay.

Quiet resort on a private beach!

Before booking I read several negative reviews. My experience was much different. I found the staff to be friendly and kind (it sounds like most of the staff was replaced about a week or two before we got there). Food service is slower than food service in the US, but that is typical in Nicaragua and everything was fresh. The bungalows are fantastic and the private beach was incredible. I highly recommend this place.

Off the Beaten Track

To say that this hotel is off the beaten track might be an understatement - we spent nearly 1 hour driving on dirt roads - dodging cows, horses, chickens, etc. - in order to get there. But, that's what we were looking for, and the place itself was worth the drive. The hotel sits on its own private beach, and each of the 'rooms' is a thatched roof hut, complete with private, open-air bathrooms and mosquito nets. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We were a little surprised with the accommodations when we arrived, but were very happy with our stay. We would recommend it to friends - but would make sure that they knew what they were getting into before they booked the hotel.

Very Relaxing Resort!

Punta Teoneste was fantastic! It was very private and quiet and absolutely beautiful! The outside bathroom concept was one of our favorite features. You literally shower under the stars; however, be warned that there is no hot water, so it is best to shower while the sun is still high!
My husband and I stayed for four nights and for two of those nights, we were the only guests there. The other two nights, there was one other couple. If you are the kind of people who require nightlife, then this is not for you. There is nothing to do in the evenings...the villas do not even have tv! We had activities planned most days, so we were tired and ready for bed as soon as dinner was over!
As for the food, it was good; however, it was extremely greasy. There were pools of oil on our plates after every meal. Drinks were very weak, which was annoying considering the price we were paying for such a small glass, but they were very refreshing.
The staff could have been a little friendlier. Part of issue was our limited Spanish (shame on us!), but communication was a real challenge. I tipped for every single meal and drink we ordered and most of the time, the staff did not even acknowledge it.
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at the resort. The villas were clean and comfortable and the scenery was breathtaking. If you enjoy the ocean, then you will love spending the days on the beach. I felt like a child again playing in the waves. Make sure you rent boogey boards! Great time!

Great resort!

The resort as a whole was great, in particular the food was amazing and the prices were more than reasonable considering the high quality of the meals. The releasing of the baby sea turtles was also a great experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great hotel far off the beaten path

Directly on pristine untouched beach, fantastic waves, beautifully decorated and maintained, great helpful staff...caveats: need 4-wheel drive vehicle to get there (difficult driving conditions because it's in a VERY remote area) restaurant $$ although they are apparently revising the menu.

Loved it! The staff were amazing and attentive! We weren't sure why they charged so much per person since there wasn't extra amenities included. The hotel manager was very accommodating and made it up to use with free breakfast.

Linda playa y piscina, pet friendly, buen desayuno y servicio.
