The location is very convenient and the area is super nice, however the cleanliness is subpar. The room smelled like a dusty dog when we walked in so we had to shut off the air conditioner and open the window. We could not use it the entire stay because it made the room smell terrible. There were some sort of stains on the sofa and chair in the room, possibly chocolate - well hopefully. The shower did not drain properly so you stood in ankle deep water until you were done. We thankfully had sleeping bags and did not have to use the blankets, we just slept on top of them. It seemed like the person running the front desk also lived there with his family which was a bit strange. There were no other hotels in the area so we didn't complain but it's definitely not somewhere we would stay again and we're not boujee type of people but this was pushing it for us. It also smelled like cigarette, dog, and mild whiffs of marijuana in the hallway although the rooms were non smoking rooms. Just something to keep in mind if you have allergies or small kids.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!

We filed an official complaint with Choice Hotels. My husband & I checked into the room and it was completely disgusting and smelled of mold or something of the like. I opened the window and left for half hour or so. We came back, but it still smelled horrible so I told the clerk we would not be staying there. One of the managers said, \"I told so and so not to cook in there last week.\" Um, there's no stove so what was he cooking? On top of that there were shady people everywhere. Some were partying in a van in the parking lot and more partying out back (WITH the 2 MANAGERS and the front desk clerk). While speaking to one of the managers, one person ran through the lobby screaming the grill out back was on fire! I did not feel safe, and after explaining to the managers that I could not stay there, the GM spoke to me (with his feet on the desk) and was extremely rude stating, \"he would not refund my money.\" He offered to put me in another room but at that point I said no because it was not a safe environment and booked another room in a neighboring town. Do not stay here! The pics online is not what the rooms are like!

When we check in the Guy was smoking outside and when he came inside he was very unprofessional. We checked into our room and it smelled like dead fish. We asked to change rooms and he seemed bothered but gave us another room which smelled better than the first but not good. The bathroom door and ac unit were broken. Breakfast had no waffle maker as advertised. Needless to say we checked out the next morning immediately. They refused to give us a refund for the next two nights but we needed to get out of there ASAP!

The lobby was minimal, front desk person was not friendly, the building is old but adequate. The room was dated and the bathtub was stained very bad. The room door was very hard to open and close. The side and rear entrance doors were never locked. Breakfast the first morning was a bagel, cereal and coffee. The juice machine was out of order. The second morning there was NO breakfast at all, just coffee. We rang the bell and after several minutes, the very disheveled staff member came out of a back room and told us that he didn't know why there was no breakfast, that there was nothing for him to put out. We have other trips coming up for that area and will NOT stay at this hotel again.

First, the few issues. Breakfast is only OJ, a few bagels, cream cheese, butter, dried cereal, bananas, and coffee. No yogurt, pastries, eggs, or much fruit. Such an easy thing to fix. The multiple threats around the pantry to not steal or video will be turned over to the police for prosecution is offensive to paying guests. There has to be a better way. The place is a bit dated and needs a refresh. The TV remotes were difficult to work from a distance. Ten of the parking spots are reserved as EV charging stations. They were all empty, but signs warned that non EV vehicles parked there would be towed AOE. Since they are available for non-guests, paying guests seem not to be the top priority. There are many positives, and they out balance the annoying but minor issues. The people are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and properly supplied. They are spacious and comfortable for sleeping. The location is good for exploring and shopping. I would certainly stay here again because all the essentials are done well.

Quaint Place to Lay Your Head in Cuba

Though right off the highway and just north of town, the location was great to be able to hop into town for a bite or for some shopping. The hotel itself feels dated, but everything is in order and clean. The breakfast on offer included bagels, coffee, and cereal, yet nothing else – I didn't find the hot water for the oatmeal, yet I was grateful for what they had.

The beds were very uncomfortable. The desk chair was so ragged we put a towel on it to sit on. There was a dirty towel on top of the clothes rack. Th window was unlocked. The breakfast had bagels, but the butter and cream cheese were in large tubs everyone used. No jelly or peanut butter. Not recommended. Dogs were barking in one of the rooms

Mishaps for an Unfavorable Stay

At 4:00 am a drunk person pounded on our door and was trying the door lock. It was unsettling and felt unsafe. After breakfast, our door key didn't work and the office had to rekey. As I was finishing my shower, the wate shut off. Apparently there was a leak in the boiler room and the entire building lost access to water. Fortunately, water service began fairly quickly.

I had to pull off the road because of snow so I was delighted when the closest place to stay was really nice, clean, and the girl at the front desk was friendly and helpful. I only knocked a start off because my kids and I were ready to grab something from the Continental breakfast before hitting the road... But there was nothing. Maybe staff was held up because of the snow, but I was still thoroughly disappointed and ended up spending a bunch of money for breakfast at McDonald's. Overall, great place to stay though

The hotel seemed okay in the common areas but the room had a foul pet odor. The sheets were clean but when we checked for bed bugs we found the mattress to be filthy. Covered in stains and animal hair stuck to the fabric. But hey we didn’t find any bed bugs.

The new owner was terrific as he was present for check-in, and very professionally described things to do in the area and offered suggestions for breakfast and dining establishments available locally. The clerk at check-in handled check-in efficiently even though there were extra steps to go through with the internet reservation. Great accomodations, nicely affordable! We'll be back!

Friendly Doesn't Always Cover it ...

Check in was wonderful ... the man who checked us in was super kind and polite. He was friendly and check in was easy. Also, the place smelled super clean when you walked in, which always makes me happy ... however, the rooms are run down. There was a mysterious stain on the carpet we didn't dare go near. The beds were comfortable and my bedbug check went well ... first hotel I've stayed in in years, however, without bedbug protectors over the mattress. Although the room was a smoke free room, that's all I smelled was old, stale smoke. My clothes smelled of it when we left. We expected a continental breakfast and when we went there there was nothing, and chairs were up on the tables (7:30am). To be fair, I went to their webpage before writing the review and it is not listed, however, there are pictures right above the list of amenities that show a lovely breakfast display. If you're no longer doing it, remove the pictures too. Thankfully there was a McDonalds down the road for us to grab something quickly before heading to our destination. I truly do not think I will be staying at this place again.

The cleanliness was excellent. They did not serve breakfast as we expected. There was no one at the front desk a lot of the time. We were there 4 days. My only real complaint was that the sheets did not fit the bed well and slipped off the mattress. For what we were looking for, it was a great place to stay. It was quiet and clean and that was important to us. Every employee we dealt with was courteous and responsive.

This property is very well kept and very clean inside. It is a bit modest on the exterior but the staff was very friendly! Due to recent economics, breakfast is not available but we were informed prior to checking in and offered a cash refund for part of our reservation when we chose to stay. We chose not to take the refund but still we’re very pleased with our accommodations. Don’t miss PaPa Ts a mile up the road for the best pizza and home smoked barbecue!

The facility itself was very nice. Comfortable and clean. We did have a cockroach in the room that was reported immediately and per the manager a thorough inspection of room was conducted.
I have used Expedia for years and never ran into someone that made me feel less welcome due to our use of Expedia. The practices there are questionable. I was asked to sign a paper to verify the credit card on the paper wasn't mine????
Then get attitude when I asked about this questionable practice!?!?
I have always been very happy with the facilities I've stayed at, but I will never stay at this place again.

A hotel for carnival workers

A hotel for carnival workers... people living four to a room and cooking out on the back steps. The smell when I walked in the room was from either bug spray or harsh cleaning products, very overpowering. Had to open a window to air out the room and the screen did not fit well. Extremely overpriced for the hotel level and amenities. Continental breakfast supposed to start at 6:30, did not start until 7:30 and then meager offerings.At least the yogurt was not expired. No one wore a mask except me. Learned my lesson; NEVER STAY IN A HOTEL THAT IS THE ONLY ONE IN TOWN!

It was everything it should be.

It was a good place to stay. Keep in mind it's a 2 star Econolodge so don't go into this place expecting anything crazy. It was really clean and the front desk was awesome. Only thing I would suggest for the hotel would be to update the shower curtain and the comforters.

Not Bad for Being the Only Hotel in Area

The area does not have many choices to stay when visiting, but the EconoLodge does a good job at making it seem like there is competition around. I've stayed in large cities where the hotel accommodations are worse. The room was clean, Wi-Fi working, parking close to the room, and we didn't have to worry about any water issues.

Stay was OK. I’d probably stay again.

1. The parking lot loitering was nerving. I was nervous that my things in my truck would be stolen. Luckily that wasn’t the case! All things remained where I put them! So all good there! 2. There was something left behind in the freezer of the room’s fridge. Not sure what it was, we didn’t touch it! 3. Lastly, in the middle of the night during the return to bed from the restroom, I mearly brushed against the end of the bed as I walked past the foot end and apparently the steel bed frame sticks out a little because it gave me a decent cut on the outside of my calf. I’m fine, nothing a bandaid couldn’t fix.

In conclusion, I needed to sleep. I slept. It was clean. I’d probably stay again if the occasion repeats itself. I think the $100/night might be a little inflated, but that’s just my opinion.

Above my expectations!

It was a wonderful place to stay. Cuba is a little town in the boonies, but Econolodge is located close to the few places they have to eat. It also has a nice free continental breakfast, including waffles, the rooms are very large and even have a couch! I was pleasantly surprised. I only stayed one night, then chose to stay the rest of my time at a place closer to the college. However, the other place is not as nice as the Econolodge and is $10 more expensive with NO breakfast, plus they charge for hot beverages in the lobby! I will stay at Econolodge next time, even if 30 minutes away from Houghton College where I was visiting.
