We loved our stay at El Albergue! First off, we were very happy that we decided to stay in Ollantay during our visit to Machu Piccu (rather than Agua Calientes) which is an incredible location in its own right, with beautiful old town, great restaurants, and fantastic archeologic sites. El Albergue is located at the train station which made if very convenient, but also a romantic old-school vibe which we appreciated. We did also take advantage of their distillery and coffee experience and loved both. The staff here were so kind and helpful, couldn't have asked for better. The room was large, clean and comfortable and everything worked great. We ate at the restaurant one night and thought the food was great. We didn't find the sounds of the trains overly intrusive, but we did look for a room facing away from the tracks and that is probably a good idea.. Highly recommend this hotel!

This was such an interesting and convenient place to stay. Right at the train station yet still walkable to the main square. The organic farm is beautiful and tucked away behind the hotel. We enjoyed the distillery and learning about the process. Restaurant food was very good and cocktails were some of the best I’ve had!

We stayed at this hotel twice. We had 2 different rooms. The experience was completely different depending on the room. Our first room was an older room facing the train tracks. It was fun to see the train coming in and hear the music. Unfortunately we were there during the demonstrations so we never actually got to get on the train. We got to experience first hand the chaos of the demonstration. It was surreal that they were putting on the full show even when they knew there was a good chance the trains were going nowhere. The staff at the hotel were great and told us about the situation. I do not think many tourists knew what was going on. We appreciate the staff's honesty. Perurail denied there were any issues. Despite being so close to the chaos. The hotel felt like a safe oasis. The grounds are magical. The gardens are stunning, and the staff work so hard to maintain this gorgeous property. I loved walking around their farm, and taking the farm path to get into town. The restaurant is amazing and I loved the farm to table experience. The quality of food is delicious and fresh. Our second room was more modern. It was very comfortable. I really enjoyed my stay. I appreciated having extra time in Ollantaytambo.

This is a truly unique experience. The grounds are beautifully landscaped; the rooms are large, comfortably furnished, and very private; there is a working farm, a distillery, and a coffee roaster as part of the property; and a terrific restaurant. And it is adjacent to the IncaRail train station.

Fabulous hotel. Great staff and superb restaurant. Only little grouse we had was that we got the room bang smack on top of the railway platform. Think pre dawn train sounds and loud live band at train boarding times (a unique Peru Rail feature)! The rooms deeper in the property would not have that issue. Lovely flora and views inside too. Overall a very nice little hotel. Would happily go back again.

The El Albergue is a very unique property. It’s literally located steps from the train tracks at Ollantaytambo Station. There is definitely noise from the trains, but I booked an interior room that faces the mountains and had no issues. The property is very quaint and the staff was very accommodating. I would definitely stay here again.

This was such a unique stay- it may have been my favorite in all of Peru! The gardens are absolutely beautiful and well maintained. The birds and wildlife were so fun to watch. The room was so well appointed and the view from our balcony was breathtaking. There’s a lot to explore on the property and such friendly people to ask questions. A huge plus was being able to leave our luggage here while taking the train to Machu Picchu and having direct access to the train tracks- allowing you to avoid the long lines at the gate.

Do ask them about the path to take into the town center out the back of the hotel.

FANTASTIC! I was worried when I saw that the words \"El Albergue\" translated to \"hostel\" but this was no hostel. I had a beautiful room on the ground floor. It was completely silent after about 9 pm. I arranged through the hotel for a taxi to come and pick me up in Cusco. It was easy and seamless. The room was clean and the free breakfast was lovely. I would 100% stay here again and would recommend this place to anyone, especially because of it's convenient location directly inside the train station!

Everything about El Albergue is incredible. Beautiful rooms and outdoor sitting areas, comfy bed, wonderful service. The entire property is spectacular with gardens, a distillery and coffee roasting. The morning breakfast was perfect before a day of exploring Ollantaytambo. The close proximity to the train station was also a plus! Oh and the restaurant and Cafe Mayu...So good! I hope I can return one day as I just loved the warmth of this hotel as well as the town of Ollantaytambo.

We loved this property, and its location to the train is perfect. Our only complaint was that there was no a/c. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the restaurant was amazing! They prepared box breakfasts since we were leaving early and held our luggage overnight until we returned from our Inca Trail hike. I highly recommend this property.

The place looks adorable but the problem with this place is that you smell diesel fuel all night long and you hear the train bell ring and the horn go off all night long. Staff is a little deceiving as they tried to add extra things to your bill and services. We asked the staff to weigh our laundry so we know how much to pay them for washing it. I watched her go around the corner and lay it down and then come back within one second and gave us a weight. As soon as she left, thinking, that was a little too quick I went around the corner to see the weight and it was not there so she made up the weight. The weight seemed way heavier than what it felt to me so we got gouged a little more that way as well.

It's a great hotel with beautiful gardens. The food is grown on their farm on the same property so is good and healthy. You can take a short cut to the archeological site on the path that also takes you to their farm. I liked the location. I was concerned with being right at the train ststion, but we didn't hear the trains.

A Uniquely wonderful hotel

This is a uniquely wonderful hotel situated in Ollantaytambo railway station, it has the most beautiful gardens behind the hotel where the guest rooms are. The inside lobby and restaurant areas are delightful as are all the staff. The bedrooms are large and comfortable with a good size bathroom.
Breakfasts and dinner in the restaurant are excellent.
Highly recommend this unique hotel.

Our room was on the 2nd floor with Mountain View, one of the furthest away from the train station. With the windows open on 2 sides of the room, you can smell the fragrant angel trumpet plant. It was stunning. El Albergue also arranged guide service for us including transportation from Cusco airport and four 1/2 days of guided service including Macchu Pichu and train tickets. WELL worth it! Our guide was so knowledgeable. Highly recommend this hotel.

Located in the train station, it was great for our arrival late at night from Aguas Calientes. If you are planning to visit Ollantaytambo you will have to walk a bit to hit the town. The property is well maintained, beautiful gardens between the buildings. The room was comfortable and the decoration was colonial style.

We stayed at El Albergue for one night just before our hike to Inka trail.The hotel itself is fine but the location was the issue.It is located inside the train station and there is no air conditioning or even standing fan in the room. There was no air circulation in the room which made it impossible to sleep.To add to the misery if we open the window in the room, the train siren sound and smoke along with insects entered the room.When tried to approach the staff, they came in just to open the windows in bathroom and mentioned nothing can be done.

Also the hotel did not honor the vip access discount for the stay and the staff was not fully aware of the expedia offering.

The only issue is that it being so close to the train station, it’s very loud and smoky at night. I could not sleep because of the smoke. Seeped into our room even with the doors and windows closed.

We arrived about 5 pm after visiting machu picchu and did find that having the hotel literally 10 ft from the tracks rather handy as it was chaotic at the train station. We cheked in and were shown our room . Irony. This was the most expensive night of the trip and the horel was mehhh at best. Very rustic for sure. Paid extra for a room viewing the ruins. That was rich...there were no ruins within site. Opened the refrigerstor to find old food left over. The 110 outlet failed to work and after 3 attempts to communicate the problem we were finally given an adaptor. Final gripe....staff here were Not friendly..which was odd as my stay in Peru the last week has been full of wonderful people. Dont think about getting any rest as the trains run late and very early. The only good thing i can report was the breakfast included...nice staff in kitchen.

Disappointing Experience

Our stay was quite disappointing. While the property is quite attractive and the location by the train was great for an early train departure, the bed was hard, the shower lukewarm at best, and the wifi barely functional (only e-mail worked.) All stuff I wouldn’t really complain about at a lower price point, but this place is priced at the higher end for the location, and I expected better.

Most disappointing to me, however, was how unhelpful and unaccommodating the front desk staff was. (Unusual for Peru.) The main reason we booked this hotel was because we had a very early (6:10am) train to Manchu Piccu, and staying at this location was going to buy us a little more time for sleeping. I was very surprised that the hotel didn’t provide breakfast before the train, because literally every other place we stayed at in Peru had early breakfast available for folks who were setting off on early tours. It’s very very common, even at much cheaper hotels. I assume guests must take the early train to MP all the time, but the front desk staff acted like we were the first to have this problem.

We stayed at El Albergue for three nights. The hotel is inside the rail station. First the good - the room we stayed in was spotlessly clean. The restaurant was decent and the wait staff friendly. When we checked out, we were presented with a pair of clay bulls - which was a very nice touch.

Our main gripe with our stay is the room we were in. We had booked a superior room with balcony. Hotel’s website described the room as tucked away in the gardens away from the rail station. Our room was tucked in between the rail station and what seemed like a couple of staff only building that emanated hammering noises dawn to dusk. The picture and description of our room say it is a 430 sqft room, consisting of a queen and a twin bed, with a seating area, desk and fireplace. And what looks like a large balcony with a couple of armchairs. Our room only fit one king bed and a desk , no sign of seating area, well short of the 430 sqft that was advertised. We had a balcony that had only one armchair, inadequate for the two of us. Either the hotel’s description is disingenuous or the reception gave us the wrong room. we brought this to front desks attention multiple times, who educated us on their room types and insisted this is the room we booked.

The hotel is excellent for a one night stay to or from Machu Picchu. We were hoping to recharge in a beautiful surrounding for a few days, but did not happen. We checked out feeling disappointed and somewhat cheated.

This was a fantastic hotel. The location was great and right next to the train station. The restaurant was delicious and one of the best meals we had in all of Peru. The hotel's farm is very pleasant to walk through and see, and to get to the ruins you have a beautiful walk through the rest of the surrounding farms. Truly a special place to stay and highly recommend it.
