Beautifully remodeled and upgraded. The rooms are not very large, yet they are well designed and comfortable. The little details, including tea, coffee, and water bottles were appreciated. My only complaint is that the windows are not sound proof, so if you are on a lower floor and facing State Street it can be a bit loud until 10-11P. The lobby bar/ lounge was enjoyable for an evening snack and beverage. Parking options, besides valet, would be a great add-on option.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Santa Barbara with your fur babies, Hotel Santa Barbara is your place. Most home rentals, hotels and motels in the area only all 2 pets per stay. Hotel Santa Barbara did not have a limit. Don’t forget to go to Joe’s Cafe across the street….best breakfast in town!

This property shares a wall with the bar Baja Sharkys! The driving music and partying doesn’t end until after 1am! The hotel knows this and still rents rooms knowing you will not sleep till after one. Then if/when you complain they will refund your money but your night was already ruined! That is their business model! Fill the rooms then give refunds if you complain. DO NOT STAY HERE!

We love that it’s located in our favorite part of State Street, so it’s super convenient to get to our favorite bars & restaurants! We are happy we found our new spot when we visit Santa Barbara!!

Beautiful hotel in a great Downtown location near many shops and restaurants. We purchased tickets to a concert at the Lobero Theatre and had a 10 minute walk down State Street to arrive at our destination. Love this nostalgic hotel with comfortable beds and very nice staff. We would definitely stay there again.

We had a large group that stayed there & everyone was happy with their stay. Specifically, with the staff. The young gentleman and young woman at the front desk on Saturday, March 28th were very welcoming and patient with so many of us arriving at the same time. Our bartender at arrival was also very attentive with our drink orders. Would definitely stay there again. The decor is beautiful and calming. And, great service goes a long way after a long train ride.

Room was clean and modern with a well-stocked chiller and slightly less-stocked snack bar. Bed was extremely comfortable (firm King, as we like it) and electrical/charging amenities were more than adequate (wall, lamps and wireless). We only stayed 3 nights, however, like most post-COVID hotels, housekeeping needs to be requested as well as towel changes and bathroom supply refills. Staff is professional, friendly and always present and ready to assist. Hotel parking (valet) is convenient and secure 24-hrs - a great plus since its located in the center of downtown and within walking distance to everything. We also appreciated the hotel is very pet-friendly.

Parking was easy. State Street is a barren mess. Expensive smart watch went missing even though the watch tracker showed it in the staff office long after checkout. If a guest's property is not safe in the hotel there is little reason to stay there.

Room was small but efficient, great interior furnishings. There was a fridge (mini bar not free), but free coffee and tea (good quality stuff too), kettle for boiling water. Plenty of cups. Nice large bathroom. Big open lobby with a little coffee/drink bar. My room faced courtyard so no street noise. Dogs and children were allowed, so very family oriented. It's in the middle of everything, so a 15 minute walk to the top of State, and a 15 minute walk to the harbor. Every intention of staying again.

We stayed at Hotel Santa Barbara for two nights and honestly had such a great experience. We picked it for the location (you really can’t beat it) and the fact that it’s dog-friendly—and they absolutely delivered on both.

Check-in was quick and easy, and they immediately gave my dog Lobo a treat, which obviously won them points right away. They offer dog bowls and beds, and we ended up using the bed—which Lobo approved of, so that says everything.

The hotel itself is super clean, updated, and just really beautifully decorated without feeling over the top. It felt comfortable but still a little elevated, if that makes sense.

At checkout, Alex and Christine were at the front desk and came over to give Lobo some birthday love (yes… we were celebrating his 12th 😅), which was such a sweet touch. Every single employee we interacted with—from valet to housekeeping—was genuinely friendly and welcoming.

They do offer valet, and the gated parking at night made me feel really safe leaving my car there, which I appreciated.

We’d absolutely stay here again—no question.

Situated in a great area. Midway on State St. we stayed here many years ago. It has since been remodeled. We were very surprised at the size of the bed. Queen size bed?? I think not! The beds were comfortable. Small rooms. They have a small coffee area, restaurant, bar in the lobby. Our hair dryer did not work but they replaced it. Staff tried to be helpful but not top notch communicators. We would stay there again.

This boutique hotel was super clean, smelled amazingly fresh everytime we entered the hotel, valet parking was top notch (never waited more than 5 minutes for our car, location could not be beat with entry/exit right onto State street with tons of shopping and restaurants (I highly recommend Angie’s a few blocks away), and very helpful and friendly staff.

Hotel and a small but functional gym which we used a couple of times. Only drawbacks were limited on site food options (no real restaurant). Just a lobby bar with a couple food items.

Lastly, this may have been the unluck of the draw but we were in Room 201 and were awoken everyday to loud banging metal noises that sounded like a laundry shoot ran through the middle of our room. Not sure how many rooms are affected but to be honest, when you pay this much for a boutique hotel experience, NONE of the rooms should have to deal with this noise nuisance every day!!

Very loud and the rooms are small with no place for clothes other than the closet. It has been updated so the decor is very nice and the rooms are clean. Bed seemed small, but ended up being comfortable. The hotel is located in a good spot for walking, but with the bars and crowds, it was pretty noisy until about 2:30 in the morning.

Best most comfortable stay ever! Staff was so helpful and friendly, treated you like an old friend, and even the young ones wanted to tell you what’s in the town where to go and what to do. The historicity of the hotel is unforgettable and dear to history buffs. Free souvenir water bottles in each room, and a water station serving filtered and sparkling water to put in the bottles on each floor by each elevator. Just a gorgeous place!!! Lots of of towels etc. even a acquaint writing desk where I was actually able to get some work done on my computer.

The location is central and great. The exterior is the historic part, which is beautiful, but marketing suggests the lobby/bar is a time capsule, which it is not. The double queen room was a great size. Water pressure in the shower was mid and the sink drained slowly.

We had an amazing stay over the weekend with our puppy, Ozzy! This hotel is probably the most pet-friendly hotel we've stayed at. Before arriving, they asked if we wanted a bowl and bed placed in the hotel. Not only did they leave those in the room, but also a little bag with treats and a ball. They also had some chocolates and wine for our anniversary!

Staff was all amazing and friendly. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I also love that they give you a lot of pillows! The location was also perfect if you love to just step out and be able to walk around to bars and restaurants. Parking was also convenient, and for your pup, there are grass and dirt patches at the back of the hotel.

Only complaint would probably be the slow and small elevator, but the hotel is only 4 stories so you can easily just take the stairs. Overall, we would stay here again the next time we're back!

We came here for a wedding. The hotel is situated in a great spot on State street. I have stayed some lovely places, but was taken with the hydration stations on each floor- a button allows you to choose between still and sparkling filtered water. The hotel provides free reusable water bottles. The staff were charming and genuine.

Very nice hotel, it was cozy, very convenient to the main corridor that leads to restaurants, bars, shopping, etc. We loved the elevator, it was nice to experience a bit of the past, possibly the 1920’s type of elevator. Make sure you go in and stay a night and enjoy the moment.

The staff, upon learning it was my birthday, upgraded my room to king size bed, put up a happy birthday sign on the headboard, and left bubbles and chocolate for me as well. A really kind and thoughtful touch that made my stay feel more intimate and personal. All the staff were great and love the new bar 1926. Have stayed at this hotel many times over the years and really love the renovation. Such a great location and all around vibe!

The property is in pristine condition, and located right where all the action is in the Downtown Santa Monica. I love the decor. The aesthetic is quite homey. The mini bar is stocked with anything you could need during your stay. Even the soaps are nice! You will want to arrive before valet leaves for the day! Otherwise, ample parking is available in City Lot #11 (hourly).

Stayed at Hotel Santa Barbara on March 8, 2026 and had a very concerning experience.
We checked in around 9:30 PM under the reservation name Vanessa Gonzalez and were assigned Room 415. The air conditioning in the room wasn’t working, so around midnight the hotel moved us to Room 315.
During the transfer, individuals described by the hotel as “third-party security” were allowed into our room to inspect the AC and were then permitted to help move our luggage. Shortly after the move, I discovered that my Movado watch (valued roughly $2,500–$4,000) was missing.
There is a camera directly outside Room 415 and the hotel has key-card access logs that should show who entered the room.
Instead of helping resolve the situation, front desk staff Alex Smith and Dylan Dupont were rude, dismissive, and escalated the situation by calling the police even though we were calm and simply trying to report the missing item. Police responded and a report was filed, which made the situation unnecessarily embarrassing.
The interaction also included comments referencing my being Hispanic, which made the situation even more uncomfortable.
I hope management reviews the hallway cameras and access logs from that night. Guests should feel safe leaving their belongings in their room. Unfortunately, that wasn’t my experience here.

The Hotel Santa Barbara property was very nice. Central location, clean, with very friendly staff. Housekeeping is \"by request\" so you have to let the front desk know if/when you need service.
The Central location was also a minor drawback since our room was right on State Street so street noise at night was noticeable. A pop-up crepes tent showed up just outside our window each night which contributed to the noise. Additionally, there was a wedding party/guests also staying on our floor who got loud at night. The next tine I stay there (there will be a next time) I will request a room in a quieter section of the hotel. I give the hotel 5 stars for the premises and staff, but 4 stars just due to the noise we experienced on our 3 night stay.

The hotel is very cute with beautiful architecture. It’s right downtown and within walking distance to just about anything. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff was excellent, right down to the valet parking attendants. We loved the fresh cold water and ice on the each floor.

The hotel went absolutely above and beyond to help me pull off the ultimate birthday surprise. They decorated her room beautifully and had her birthday cake waiting right there for us. Seeing her face light up made the entire trip. The hotel is newly renovated, and the design is beautiful — a mix of historic charm and modern elegance. Our room felt warm, elevated, and peaceful. It’s the kind of space that makes you want to slow down and actually enjoy where you are. And the location couldn’t be better. It’s right in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, surrounded by cafés, bakeries, wine bars — all just steps away.
