Beware if you prepay in Expedia they not only put a incidental $150 hold on your card, which is expected, but also a $375 that nobody told me about nor could explain why it was “authorized “ even though the room was fully paid for. The only explanation is “oh it automatically placed when it prepaid “ ….for what? Im still not convinced it’s a hold that will come off in the week or two . Glad I don’t need that $375 anytime soon.

We love staying in historic hotels and The Santa Barbara Hotel is one of our favorites. The location on State Street is perfect. The rooms are on the small side, but are very comfortable. The hotel has recently been renovated and is very nice.

Charming little hotel in the perfect area of Santa Barbara to be able to walk to shops and restaurants. The room was a bit dusty but otherwise well-maintained. As other reviews mentioned, it was noisy at night so bring earplugs. Lovely, historic place though, and we will be back.

My husband and I stayed here for one night during a friend’s wedding weekend and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is pet-friendly, with beautiful rooms and an excellent location.

I’m a very picky traveler when it comes to cleanliness, and I was genuinely impressed by how well-maintained both the property and the rooms were. I’m also very sensitive to smells, and everything felt fresh and clean - especially impressive for a pet-friendly hotel.

The location is fantastic. We were able to walk to restaurants, shops, and other nearby attractions, and it’s just a short walk from the water.

We highly recommend this hotel and would absolutely stay here again. We can’t wait for our next visit!

The hotel was very nice very clean. The staff was wonderful. It’s just that $30 a day parking but I know that’s what they’re charging nowadays. The only thing is we expected breakfast because they said they had breakfast. I thought may be a Continental breakfast , but there was none of that, There is a little bar there to order snacks and drinks. The other thing is that the parking is very hidden. You can miss it. We went around several times before we we saw it.

The renovation is beautiful. We had a room on the second floor by the elevator and the old elevator made loud noise. The bathroom in our room was too small and stepped up. No room for sundries.
The decor in the room is very nice.
However, the hotel is in an awesome location. Walking distance to the beach and downtown Santa Barbara on State Street.

LOVE this hotel and cannot wait to come back and stay again. The whole place felt like a serene spa with the cleanliness and aromatics radiating throughout the property and each floor. The little details such as the hydration station to refill water bottles and the pump hand soap instead of bar soap made a big difference to me. The decor was immaculate and was basically my vision board brought to life. All of that combined with the perfect location in the middle of State St with walking distance to everything was a dream. We will definitely return!

Hotel Santa Barbara truly unique! The design detail impresses, then all the unexpected luxury treats - the in room speciality coffee & tea service, the good quality water bottle supported by the top end refill station. The hydration station also provided ice individually packed in ziplocks bags, stored in freezer drawers - lots of thought went into this simple service point to make it special.
The room beautifully decorated, perfect temperature control system, great lighting with tree lined avenue views. Amenities good quality and home grown .
The bar is perfectly located we were so impressed with the barman, he understood our special requests and remembered them ! He was attentive and offered classical bar service. The location absolutely perfect, we wish we had longer at the Hotel Santa Barbara, job well done congrats to the Owners & Management. Thank you

Room was well appointed and the bathrobes were a nice touch. Our room was incredibly quiet which was good since my friend didn’t arrive til after midnight and we could sleep in with the help of a noon checkout.

Right in the middle of the action in downtown SB and State Street.

Great place will stay again, the lobby coffee was far better than the trendy coffee shop across the road, and the bar person could mix a great cocktail, at a great price too. They welcomed our dog with treats and scratches, valet parking was convenient.

Overall, the hotel feels new, although the elevator is vintage and slow. Our room was clean, and just a bit snug. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom ample and we appreciate the large amount of vanity counter space. The room and bath are well furnished with amenities. The location is excellent. We would book there again.

I always stay at this hotel when I’m going to the nearby Lobero Theater to go see a concert. It’s about a 10 minute walk. This is located on State Street near lots of great shopping and coffee, shops and restaurants and bars.. Starbucks is right next to the hotel. This part of State Street does not have cars so it makes it very easy to walk up and down and explore and have fun. There is valet parking and a parking lot in the back of the hotel that was very helpful. The room was very nice and very clean and I loved the mattress and the bedding and pillows and had a great night sleep. It’s mid priced and affordable and I enjoy it more than some of the more expensive hotels that I’ve stayed at that are fairly close to this location as well. The parking was $30 for overnight parking. They have renovated fairly recently since it’s an older historical hotel and it’s really well done and they’ve added a bar downstairs in the lobby, which was quite nice. Very friendly staff checking in and a wonderful and fragrant fresh smell throughout the hotel. Can’t say enough about it and I would stay here over and over again.!!!

Beautifully remodeled and upgraded. The rooms are not very large, yet they are well designed and comfortable. The little details, including tea, coffee, and water bottles were appreciated. My only complaint is that the windows are not sound proof, so if you are on a lower floor and facing State Street it can be a bit loud until 10-11P. The lobby bar/ lounge was enjoyable for an evening snack and beverage. Parking options, besides valet, would be a great add-on option.

If you’re looking for a place to stay in Santa Barbara with your fur babies, Hotel Santa Barbara is your place. Most home rentals, hotels and motels in the area only all 2 pets per stay. Hotel Santa Barbara did not have a limit. Don’t forget to go to Joe’s Cafe across the street….best breakfast in town!

This property shares a wall with the bar Baja Sharkys! The driving music and partying doesn’t end until after 1am! The hotel knows this and still rents rooms knowing you will not sleep till after one. Then if/when you complain they will refund your money but your night was already ruined! That is their business model! Fill the rooms then give refunds if you complain. DO NOT STAY HERE!

We purchased tickets to a concert at the Lobero Theatre and had a 10 minute walk down State Street to arrive at our destination. Love this nostalgic hotel with comfortable beds and very nice staff. We had a large group that stayed there & everyone was happy with their stay. Specifically, with the staff. The young gentleman and young woman at the front desk on Saturday, March 28th were very welcoming and patient with so many of us arriving at the same time. Our bartender at arrival was also very attentive with our drink orders. Would definitely stay there again. The decor is beautiful and calming. And, great service goes a long way after a long train ride.

Room was clean and modern with a well-stocked chiller and slightly less-stocked snack bar. Bed was extremely comfortable (firm King, as we like it) and electrical/charging amenities were more than adequate (wall, lamps and wireless). We only stayed 3 nights, however, like most post-COVID hotels, housekeeping needs to be requested as well as towel changes and bathroom supply refills. Staff is professional, friendly and always present and ready to assist. Hotel parking (valet) is convenient and secure 24-hrs - a great plus since its located in the center of downtown and within walking distance to everything. We also appreciated the hotel is very pet-friendly.

Room was small but efficient, great interior furnishings. There was a fridge (mini bar not free), but free coffee and tea (good quality stuff too), kettle for boiling water. Plenty of cups. Nice large bathroom. Big open lobby with a little coffee/drink bar. My room faced courtyard so no street noise. Dogs and children were allowed, so very family oriented. It's in the middle of everything, so a 15 minute walk to the top of State, and a 15 minute walk to the harbor. Every intention of staying again.

We stayed at Hotel Santa Barbara for two nights and honestly had such a great experience. We picked it for the location (you really can’t beat it) and the fact that it’s dog-friendly—and they absolutely delivered on both.

Check-in was quick and easy, and they immediately gave my dog Lobo a treat, which obviously won them points right away. They offer dog bowls and beds, and we ended up using the bed—which Lobo approved of, so that says everything.

The hotel itself is super clean, updated, and just really beautifully decorated without feeling over the top. It felt comfortable but still a little elevated, if that makes sense.

At checkout, Alex and Christine were at the front desk and came over to give Lobo some birthday love (yes… we were celebrating his 12th 😅), which was such a sweet touch. Every single employee we interacted with—from valet to housekeeping—was genuinely friendly and welcoming.

They do offer valet, and the gated parking at night made me feel really safe leaving my car there, which I appreciated.

We’d absolutely stay here again—no question.

Situated in a great area. Midway on State St. we stayed here many years ago. It has since been remodeled. We were very surprised at the size of the bed. Queen size bed?? I think not! The beds were comfortable. Small rooms. They have a small coffee area, restaurant, bar in the lobby. Our hair dryer did not work but they replaced it. Staff tried to be helpful but not top notch communicators. We would stay there again.

This boutique hotel was super clean, smelled amazingly fresh everytime we entered the hotel, valet parking was top notch (never waited more than 5 minutes for our car, location could not be beat with entry/exit right onto State street with tons of shopping and restaurants (I highly recommend Angie’s a few blocks away), and very helpful and friendly staff.

Hotel and a small but functional gym which we used a couple of times. Only drawbacks were limited on site food options (no real restaurant). Just a lobby bar with a couple food items.

Lastly, this may have been the unluck of the draw but we were in Room 201 and were awoken everyday to loud banging metal noises that sounded like a laundry shoot ran through the middle of our room. Not sure how many rooms are affected but to be honest, when you pay this much for a boutique hotel experience, NONE of the rooms should have to deal with this noise nuisance every day!!

Very loud and the rooms are small with no place for clothes other than the closet. It has been updated so the decor is very nice and the rooms are clean. Bed seemed small, but ended up being comfortable. The hotel is located in a good spot for walking, but with the bars and crowds, it was pretty noisy until about 2:30 in the morning.

Best most comfortable stay ever! Staff was so helpful and friendly, treated you like an old friend, and even the young ones wanted to tell you what’s in the town where to go and what to do. The historicity of the hotel is unforgettable and dear to history buffs. Free souvenir water bottles in each room, and a water station serving filtered and sparkling water to put in the bottles on each floor by each elevator. Just a gorgeous place!!! Lots of of towels etc. even a acquaint writing desk where I was actually able to get some work done on my computer.
