This hotel has clean, decent size rooms and bathroom. It's an excellent alternative to sorrounding hotels, at a more affordable price. It is centrally located and has a decent restaurant on site in case you need a quiet, close place to get food. Not as fancy as other hotels but the price is right. Staff is helpful.

A great hotel for exploring Mexico City. Not only is it conveniently located near the Zócalo, but the staff’s professionalism, the cleanliness of the rooms, and the complimentary bottled water available daily at reception were all much appreciated. The breakfast is also of very high quality. This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in over the past five years. Highly recommended.

Excellent place to stay at if you would like to stay in the heart of the historical district. The building has a fabulous modern architectural and interior design with an admirable preservation of the underground heritage which can be seen when walked over along the transparent glass flooring. Staff are friendly and the location is well accessible. Rooms are spacious and there are many food and entertainment options in walking distance.
The only downside which comes with the location is the noise from the surrounding public /tourist attraction spaces and the open space plazas where events can frequently happen.

En medio del bullicio y agitada vida de la capital de México este pequeño hotel cuenta con todo lo necesario para una cómoda estadía: limpias y cómodas habitaciones, excelente servicio, agradable atmósfera, además de estar perfectamente ubicado aún lado de la catedral. El desayuno bufet es agradable, lo probamos solo un día porque queríamos experimentar la comida de otros lugares.

The rooms were really spacious, clean and cozy! One one of the first nights my sister got food poisoning and was feeling sick at 3am, and their 24 hour staff was on call and helped get us medicine for her upset stomach and she said it saved her. The food at the restaurant was ok a bit plain for my taste, and the service was very welcoming but a bit slow. Overall the location was amazing if you want to stay in the historical district, I will definitely be staying again with my family.

Hotel Catedral is right in the heart of the historic city center. It's a fabulous location for being able to step outside and be literally a few steps from the cathedral, the Templo Mayor, the Zócalo, and the Palacio Nacional. The streets on either side of the hotel are very small and walkable--no major car traffic. I loved being in the thick of things.

The breakfast was an enormous buffet and very good. There were lovely cookies, fruits, and bottled water set out at all times in the lobby.You can also look through a glass floor and see ancient ruins below.

I imagine there are some wonderful rooms with beautiful views available, but I had selected the least expensive room. It was very Soviet era--bare bones, drab and dark, looking out over an interior atrium. This was not a luxury experience. There was no coffee maker, just a couple of bottles of drinking water. On the bright side, the bed and pillows were very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water, and great water pressure in the shower.

If you can get a nice room, I think this would be a great place to stay.

We travel to Mexico City very often - and from here to many other interesting places in Mexico.
We enjoyed our five days stay at the La Catedral hotel, in the Centro Histórico, tremendously.
In fact, what this beautiful hotel offers, definitely exceeded our expectations.
The architecture of this hotel is amazing; the people working here keep the hotel in excellent shape.
Very important to us is always the staff in the hotels we choose to stay. All of them here at La Catedral are very welcoming, friendly, polite, helpful, efficient; in short, very professional.

Best location. Everything within walking distance. Subway stations within 3 min walk. Premises are clean, safe, and comfortable. Amenities for food and drinks on premises are good. Don’t expect amazing food. This is a hotel that caters to wide range of tourists therefore food is fine. If you’re a foodie, there are plenty of options nearby. The only flaw is the rooms lack soundproof. You can hear everything.
Staff is polite and helpful. I highly recommend it.

We were very lucky to be given a free room upgrade to a corner suite, which was really spacious and perfect for a relaxing couple of nights at Hotel Catedral. The hotel is really well located for exploring the historic centre of Mexico City and for accessing the metro to go further afield. Breakfast was good quality and there was lots to choose from. Free water in the lobby included a water filter to top up bottles, which was appreciated.

The staff are wonderful. Staff assisted cheerfully and efficiently. The Wi-Fi was consistent. The Buffet breakfast can be improved. Refilling of the buffet table was not efficient. Upon my arrival, the staff changed my room. However, the plumbing noises in the next room were so loud that I could hear them through the bathroom wall. I stayed in room #604 in the original tower. My view was lovely. Note: the terrace bar prices were exorbitant.

The location is great, especially for someone who is visiting Mexico City for the first time. Many rooms provide a direct view of the Cathedral and glimpses of the Zocalo, Mexico City's main historic square. Museums, good restaurants, archaeological sites, and the subway are just a short walk away. The bar on the top floor is particularly nice, but don't eat at the restaurant that's by the hotel's rear entrance: as of March 2026, the restaurant is being redone or was being redone at some point giving a shabby atmosphere & the food wasn't great. The breakfast buffet (served elsewhere) is fine, however. The rest of the hotel is in good condition.
The only real issue is that the hotel may not be good for people who are sensitive to noise, as sounds from the square filter in until around 10:00-11:00 PM and in some rooms you can hear chairs squeaking on the floor of the bar area above, which are quite loud, until 11:00PM when the bar closes. I highly recommend that the hotel invests in some pads for the chair feet that reduce the scraping sounds on the floor or on new quieter chairs if necessary. Overall, we had a good experience, however.

The hotel’s location was excellent. We were able to walk in Centro and it was convenient to get back to from other parts of the city.
We were given likely the worst room in the hotel: 101. It had no exterior view as claimed in the listing. The window went to an interior shaft. The room laminate floor was never cleaned. The mattress was comfortable, but over-sized for the sheets. So, the bottom sheet never stayed in place.
Multiple times we were awakened after 11pm by renovations in the hotel restaurant: drills, saws and hammers. When we reached out to the front desk, they did not think it was a problem. They promised to get back to us, and never called back to the room.
We were given complimentary breakfast one day. It would not have been worth the extra cost.

Communication with hotel prior to, and upon arrival was excellent. Front desk staff, in particular, Minu, were excellent. Room was very clean & comfortable. Gabi, cleaned the room wonderfully. We found the restaurant to be of better value than the buffet and food was very good there. Location is great and we felt safe in the area despite there being homeless people around. Heavy & visible police presence nearby. Protests in main square but peaceful. The hotel is overall very good value & we are glad we chose it vs well known chain hotels.

The hotel itself is impeccable. Beautiful on the inside and the staff very nice and helpful. They have a hotel cat that lounges around and that was just another plus for me.

What I wish I had known beforehand was how noisy it is due to its proximity to the zocalo which was the venue for concerts and protests every day I was there. There would be a drum circle almost every night - one night it rained - labor protestors that camped in front of the cathedral for two days, a soccer event over the weekend and very noisy concerts.

I would not stay in the area again. One thing is city noises, another one is the banging of drums or ambulant entertainers singing or playing instruments right outside the window for hours on end.

None of this is the hotel's fault and if none of that is likely to bother you then Hotel Catedral is ideally situated to reach many amenities and its staff is fantastic.

Hotel Catedral in Mexico City is very centralised. It is situated behind the beautiful Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral church. The hotel is beside the Templo Mayor Museum. Travelling to the city centre is within walking distance.
Transportation is readily almost everywhere. You can catch a taxi easily. Hotel Catedral is beautiful from the interior, clean and safe to stay.

It is a beautiful hotel in the heart of the centro historico. The architecture of the hotel has exposed ancient ruins visible through the plexiglass floor.
The hotel has comfortable small gathering places, much appreciated offerings of fresh guavas, crisps, and small cookies, as well as coffee, tea and water whenever we need it.
The on-site restaurant offers a great range of tasty dishes, a generous fruit plate or juice with any breakfast, the best bread we have had in Mexico, and it is very reasonably priced!

We had a great 4 night stay at the hotel. The room was large, the bathroom was huge, and it was quiet even on Friday and Saturday nights. There was a good filter coffee machine in the room and endless bottled water available in fridges in reception. Breakfast was good but only available from 7.30AM which was a bit late on a day we had a very early tour booked. There were other jet-lagged people queuing from 7.15AM so a 7AM breakfast start would have been better!

My family and I stayed here for 4 nights. The staff is AMAZING from the moment you arrive to the moment you check out. There was construction in the lobby area that took away from the easy access to and from lobby restrooms. The breakfast buffet was beyond our expectations with a large variety of options and top quality customer service. The Terrace restaurant was ok, due to limited menu options and some options not available during our stay. Terrace was more for adult beverages and not so much for family fun. The location of hotel is great making it convenient to walk around to other restaurants and for shopping. We will return for another stay! Highly recommend this place!

We only stayed for one night but wow what a nice hotel. They offer their guests fresh fruits/snacks, coffee and water throughout the day. Walking distance to everything in El Centro Historico. Great views. The cathedral is gorgeous must see. The tour buses pick up and drop off 1 block away from the hotel which made it very easy for us because we had 2 tours during our visit. The room was super spacious, the bed was very comfortable. We definitely would recommend this hotel.
