Wonderful location at the heart of the waterfront and all the museums. Staff could not be more friendly & helpful. Public rooms are lovely, however, some of the rooms are internal with no natural light. They have a balcony with chairs that opens into a vestibule. Our room was also tired. Nothing you would complain about, just tired. Breakfast, for us at least was poor.

The air conditioner and ceiling fan are right above the beds. The cold airs are blowing on top of heads makes it uncomfortable to sleep. The towels have hold, and torn, no face towels. We have to carry our lugages to a set of stairs in order to take the lift. No offering of any help in bagges services for check in and check out. US $100 is not worth the price. There are not enought plug in. The reviews have been over rated. The air in the room was damp, muggy, and stale smell.

I have travelled to Kuching many times and stayed at various hotels in this lovely city. I decided to try the the Ranee Suites on a whim. I did not regret that decision.

The most stellar part of my visit was the staff. Very polite, well informed and highly responsive! I needed to extend my stay by half a day and although my room was not available, they got me a room and moved my bags in a jiffy.

The room I had was huge! It was clean and very comfortable. The lighting was perhaps a little low but it was adequate. There is a need for more electrical outlets as there was only one available which had to be shared with the kettle.

An outlet with a USB port next to the bedside works have been handy and perhaps the hotel can consider adding this at sometime.

The room came with breakfast which was passable. Choices were quite limited. At the time I had breakfast, 8:30am, the restaurant was not crowded but service was slow. Only 2 staff were present and they were struggling to keep up with all the duties they had.

The hotel is very well located right on the Kuching waterfront and is in easy walking distance of many attractions.

Overall a really pleasant stay and this has become my favourite hotel in Kuching.

We loved the design and ethos of the hotel. It was in an excellent location, room was comfortable and spacious, and breakfast, though somewhat limited, was very good indeed.
Our balcony looked onto an internal 'courtyard' which was in effect a public corridor, so we did not use it.

Kool in Kuching…

Perfectly central, near places of interest, restaurants and shops; 24 hour minimart few doors down. On the river for the bridge, boats and walking to all central locations. Helpful and friendly staff. Spacious suite and bathroom and a relaxed cultural feel to the hotel. Would happily stay here again.

Great location to many iconic places, especially to many local coffee shops/cafes.
- Great team of friendly staff.
& all staff on duties at the Front Desk do make an efffort looking out/friendly approach towards any one walked in to the hotel ensuring the safety for the hotel guests.
- Staff of hotel restaurant & at the fruit store, taking ownership for their duties.

Service industry is a challenge, let alone for hotel industry with many tourists from all countries.

Room with window into internal space curtain rail was locked so you could not close the curtain. Intermiittent buzzing in room. Misdirected showerhead meant you had stand on large cobbles to get under it. Poor breakfast

Negatives- breakfast
I was so surprised how poor the breakfast was and this is something that could be remedied easily. The coffee was too weak (almost transparent). First morning i ordered the eggs and almost cried when i saw the quantity of food on the plate. That piece of garlic bread is insignificant and doesnt even taste good. Why not invest in sourdough bread and serve a thick slice with the eggs and maybe a sausage. Even the fruit in the buffet area looked a bit pathetic. Please upgrade your breakfast to match the quality of the rest of the hotel.

Beautiful rustic charm!

This hotel is surprisingly beautiful! The decor is a mix of rustic and modern. Excellent combination! The room is cozy and clean. Breakfast is at the ground floor called MBar Bistro. The selection is limited but it's good enough for me. The staff are friendly and helpful. At the side of the hotel is a small cafe that sells fruit juice or coffee. This hotel is located in a prime area of Chinatown and facing the waterfront. Highly recommended!

Very nice hotel in excellent location. Very nice and friendly staff. We arrived late in the evening and check in was no problem.
We were given a suite that was very large with wonderful antique furniture and ornamentation.

The suite was spacious with a balcony. The staff were very helpful. There are two things that let it down. The one could be remedied quite easily and make it excellent. This one thing is the breakfast. This is really not up to scratch. There is very little choice. The tea and coffee is in a glass pot constantly heating itself. Adding a little more fruit (at present it is either a pineapple or banana) and perhaps some yoghurts would be a start. The hotel is not suitable for people with mobility issues. The lift starts on the first floor and there are stairs to that. So carrying luggage would be an issue. Also the the lift does not go to the top floor suites and again there are 2-3 flights of stairs.
It is in an excellent location but be warned it is noisy up until 11-11.30 with loud music that the windows do not protect you from.

Perfect location and charming decor

We were quite impressed with this property from their antique decor in the lobby (even a cannon!) to the friendly staff who helped us store bags waiting for a late flight. The cooked to order breakfast was a treat each morning. As soon as we stepped outside were in the thick of Kuching's vibrant riverfront with souvenir/craft stores, nightly food stalls, and a sound and light show at the government building across the river. Fair warning that it can be unexpected and loud for rooms facing the street if that's not something you would enjoy.

Location is central we didn’t realise that we were at the edge of bustling China town ok for some maybe it’s chaotic
We booked 3 nights over near year in this boutique hotel advertised as a 30 room non smoking hotel no children under 12 ,,We were surprised to find many infants an family’s in reception area and dinning quarters.
It was our preference to choose an adult hotel having brought up 6 children u may understand it’s sometimes nice to get away from grandchildren
We made our point at breakfast time an told it was a national holiday and ther was no management at hand to I needed an explanation to the breeches in the hotels policy ,which is clearly visible an written on the reception check in desk.
Whilst told a manager would be available shortly after an hour in reception I took a telephone call of acting manager Anne ,Many appolagy was offered and we were told she was 2 hours away at home and the children were leaving she admitted they should not have been in the vicinity of the building ,THE Hotels insurance does not cover children under 12 due to hotel design the railings on stair ways and I balconys didn’t meet with insurance requirements for infants they could fallen through resulting in major accidents
Anne eventually arrived
I asked what had management done Anne advised me the family’s had signed “ an indemnity to exonerate any blame
to hotel or insurance underwriters “
We were appalled we wanted to check out by this time

Booked the hotel to experience something different. It was a truly unique stay and I got a room too big for myself. Enjoyed the bathtub, the biggest I've ever seen. Overall, the experience was great. The only complaint I had is the room smell a bit mushy and the couch felt like it has never been cleaned before.

Underwhelming and over priced

A lovely hotel on the surface but standard of service and the noise levels in the room really let this place down. The decor of the hotel is lovely and I treated us to the Leonora Suite (I wouldn’t usually upgrade but it looked so lovely). The room was nice but not as stunning as the pictures. It also had a SERIOUS noise problem. I can tolerate the noise from the street as that is expected in a city centre hotel, however there was an incredibly noise air conditioning unit and another mechanical noise which went on all night. It’s obviously a known problem to the hotel as there were ear plugs on the pillow.
Breakfastbuffet was poor, as was the coffee. The cooked local breakfast items however were good.

The hotel is in a great location but needs a real shake up of service and little touches to be able to claim its a luxury boutique hotel.

A delightful stay in the city of Kuching

The location was superb for exploring the city of Kuching. It was close to local eateries and the newly built Merdeka Plaza, a mall where you can get your Starbucks (if you find the local coffee insufficiently strong) or do a bit of shopping of international brands. We liked the food served at the food court on the third level of Merdeka Plaza because of the variety. The suite at the hotel was very comfortable and the bathroom we had was huge. Breakfast at the hotel was always a delight, with choices of local food or more Western-style breakfast fare.

Great short break at the Ranee in Kuching. Very nice hotel in a great location on the waterfront (especially if you want to dash out to the river to catch the sunset). Very friendly and helpful staff. The food is worth trying - especially the Nasi Goreng Kampung and the Satay.

Really great hotel, rooms very clean, beds comfortable and shower powerful and hot. Lovely decor. Breakfast was fine nothing super fancy but good.

Staff were nice at times hard to find one to assist, they need a few bells around to help alert them that they are needed.

Cocktails were nice, wine very expensive.

Friendly Sarawak Hospitality

From the welcome drink to the last goodbye, it was efficient service all the way, without being imposing. Ranee Boutique Suites is a very small hotel with just 20-odd suites, so we see the same staff running the handicraft (beautiful things for sale here) shop serving our breakfast the next morning. It makes one feel almost at home. The suites are well appointed and comfortable and spacious. The bathrooms were nicely designed, even in our standard suites. The deluxe ones come with bathtubs. As the hotel is a restored colonial shophouse, every suite is slightly different to fit into the structure, each with its own quaint little character, like a balcony looking into the airwell etc. On our last day, we had an early flight to catch and had to leave the hotel at 6am. When we asked the front desk staff to book us a taxi, they immediately offered to pack us breakfast and hot coffee, without our asking. That's top service, in my vocabulary.

A Little Gem

This is a small upscale boutique that could be set in any major city...the lobby area is inviting as is the meditation room just off the main entrance. The decor is very stylish with historic items from the colonial period as well as more modern ones. Off the lobby is a breakfast room, and bar. My air-conditioned room (very welcome) was large with a dressing table/closet area. The bathroom was large, elegant and nice amenities were offered. On the second floor there is a reading room and a computer for the use of the guests.
The staff were very pleasant and the front desk you man arranged several jaunts for me.
The Ranee is located on the waterfront in a pleasant area and I walked to several restaurants and the interesting Art museums...A new Sarawak Art museum is being built but in the meantime the old Ethnographic one offers quite a bit of history....additionally there is a textile museum in walking distance from the hotel.
Several colonial buildings are being repurposed as cafes and I located one near by where I spent several hours under a ceiling fan, drinking coffee and writing postcards. Their cakes are delicious.It was called \"The courthouse\" (?).
I was surprised to learn that 700,000 people live in Kuching but it is a city of ethnic neighborhoods and it was was not obvious to my eye that the Malay people live on one side of the river, and the Chinese on the other. The area around the Ranee is filled with small shops, narrow walkways, and feels colonial.

Hotel is a few minutes' walk from the waterfront, a mall (Plaza Merdeka), nice cafes, Chinatown (which has authentic local delicacies like pork satay and Sarawak laksa), souvenir and handicraft shops as well as historical attractions such as the Sarawak textile museum and the Old Courthouse. Twin room (Room 108) was spacious, had a large bathtub and a terrace overlooking a car park. There is a short flight of stairs (10 steps) leading to the hotel lift - something to consider if you have elderly people in your travelling party. Breakfast menu changes daily with local items and western options to choose from.

We liked this hotel so much that we stayed there twice during our 2 week visit to Sarawak. The staff was helpful and welcoming, the room was spacious and clean, the hotel design was elegant and the central waterfront location was perfect for us. During our second stay, there were some issues including a leaking bathtub and a 6AM accidental staff intrusion. The hotel responded to both accidents quickly and were very apologetic.

Oh!View from my room is incredible the Staff GREAT

My first impression of any hotel is the lobby which was tastefully decorated. The next person is Mr. Teo who checked me in. He was wonderful and helpful. I was several hours too early to check in and he took stowed my luggage. My room was on the 2nd room. There are two sets of windows with view of the river and the government office. Although the room face the street, I don't find it to be noisy. The old chinatown was one street behind, the bus stop was across the street, the newer part of town was about 0.5 miles away so the location was great.

The breakfast changes daily and made to order. The varieties should satisfy everyone's particular taste. The service was wonderful.

The room itself is nicely decorated. I really like the shower. Bottle waters were provided.

Last but not least, Ann and her staff were simply outstanding. They really made the stay so much better. Ann responded to my request for a simple maintenance request promptly.

I really like like the hotel and would recommend to anyone staying in Kuching. This is a posh hotel at a reasonable price

We stayed at Ranee either side of a tour to Batang Ai and a longhouse stay. Ranee is a beautifully appointed boutique hotel and converted shophouse, so it has an old-world feel with modern touches. It's location in Old Chinatown and right across the road from the gorgeous waterfront is very convenient. We stayed in two different rooms and both were well appointed, very clean, had very comfortable beds and everything we needed. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful - whether arranging taxis, storing our bags, arranging breakfast for our early checkout, suggesting places to see and eat, or just friendly conversation while serving us at the bar or front desk. We would definitely stay again and highly recommend this hotel.

I had a wonderful 1 nights' stay at Ranee, for a few reasons:
1. Location was perfect for food, souvenir shopping, sight seeing on foot...
2. Lovely view of the river from my room (204)
3. Friendly staff

I do wish there is some kind of manual for the air-cond / fan though, took some time to figure it out haha.

Big room with sea view

Our room is just facing the river with a great view of the new Sarawak State legislative assembly building. Quiet and calm. Room is spacious and comfortable.

Great hotel on the cultural trail

Hotel food generally fair. Better eateries in the neighbourhood. However, despite its size, the place has the perfect ambience for a boutique hotel. Staff are also friendly and efficient.

Almost perfect

The interior design of the place is wonderful, and library between rooms a nice touch. Food was very good as well (breakfast) but service can be a bit lacklustre. Mostly fine, but not the attitude of the best hotels. (Yet!)
I know some people have talked about a noise problem on the suites facing the main bazaar - it was really not that bad. But if you are a light sleeper, request a quieter room.

Lots of thought gone into the fit out here. Lovely local flavour and relaxing ambience. Impeccable service. Great riverfront location with interesting local streets behind. Quality bedding and furniture and delightful bathroom with everything in good working order. Nice to see support for local art, charity and goat's milk project.

Hotel is clean and rooms are large. Breakfast was very slow to be served however this may have been due to the holiday season. On our last day and after we booked out of the hotel we left our luggage at the hotel as we were booked to take a tour. Upon returning from the tour and after being in the jungle and heat we asked the hotel to use their facilities to wash up before our departure flight. Unfortunately the hotel did not have a shower that we could use. We then requested a towel to use in the bathroom. The hotel was very reluctant to provide us with a hand towel. After persuasion they final gave us a small hand towel each.

We loved it

We loved staying here. Our suite was both very roomy and very comfy. Everyone at the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. Our many questions were answered, taxis were hired, tours were booked. The decor is beautiful. We liked the location because we could so easily walk along the waterfront and poke around the interesting stores on the main street and in Chinatown. We stayed in the Margaret Suite, which we thought was well worth the extra stairs involved. The only drawback to the suite was that we thought we would get a good river view, but in fact the view is largely blocked by a concrete wall and a low overhang. WiFi in lobby only.

Excellent!

Lovely hotel in a great location on the waterfront and near the shops. Very nice breakfast. They stored my bag overnight while I went to one of the national parks. Overall great service. Would stay here again.

Great location

Nice and comfortable. Conveniently located by the waterfront. The road behind has plenty of sheikh cafes and restaurants to explore.

Rooms are modern with all the creature comforts you'll need.
