Decent stay but far from fort

Property is ocean facing which is great. Not really a 5 star property though. Cleanliness could be better. Not value for money. The fort is actually a 10 min ride away not walking distance.

Excellent property in all respects but tucked on a promontory down a cul de sac which is currently under repair requiring a detour through an office car park which detracts from the sense of arrival. Not however in control of the hotel and will probably be fixed soon.

Fabulous hotel with great views of Galle Fort. Absolutely spotless everywhere. Modern bedroom finished to a high standard

Spacious showerroom.

The large infinity pool overlooks the ocean and Fort Galle. It is beautifully clean and a joy to swim in. There is also a small jacuzzi
Lots of sun loungers.

Wonderful view from the bed room over tbe ocean and Fort Galle.

Excellent breakfast
We enjoyed the fish restaurant, which also has a nice view.

Service was very good
The staff were very helpful and made our stay thoroughly enjoyable

Got the ocean view room, and the view of the ocean is absolutely mesmerizing. The pool bar in the hotel is really a nice place to relax. Only one simple complaint I'd have is that the hotel doesn't have a big enough beach.

Warning don’t waste your time booking a hot tub room. Total waste of money. You need about 2 hrs to fill it. Then there are no instructions how to use it. We tried to get a refund from Sanjivee but he was adamant that it was our fault that we hadn’t reported it (not sure what other than lack of power from the tap) he wasn’t going to oblige.
Other than this hiccup the hotel is very well situated - 15 mins walk - for visiting Galle Fort where there is a good selection of restaurants and shops.
The rooms are big with comfortable beds and good pillows. The bathroom had a nice shower, a Japanese toilet and double sink. The furniture generally was a bit tired and maintenance needed to be done on some of it. There is a good fswimming pool and nice seating area. Access to a small beach.
Breakfast was very good. A huge selection of Sri Lankan and European dishes. The highlight were the hoppers and freshly cut fruit of your choice.
I would recommend this hotel for the convenience to the Fort, size of bedrooms and breakfast. Question the attitude of some staff.

Great location right next to Fort but outside the mayhem of it. Great views of it from the pool!
Private beach, quite sheltered by the big waves.
Comfortable and large rooms.
Lovely breakfast and great service overall. Sondeepa, the lovely guy who made our room, was super attentive and lovely.

We had such a pleasant stay at this property. It was so calm and serene. With a stunning view of the fort.

There's a small safe area to swim in the ocean as the rest of the sea is quite dangerous. A nice warm pool that offers the same view and peaceful vibe.

The dining option for us was a paid dinner that had authentic Sri Lankan food. It wasn't short of any flavour and they did not cut corners - this is coming from a Sri Lankan. The next time I come from Canada and need to visit Galle. I will stay here again without hesitation

It was pleasant but I was not happy about the cleanliness of the shower. It needed a good clean. It made me feel like everything was just wiped over.
The hotel design is beautiful. Buffer is a 7 out of 10.

The good - really good location close to the Dutch fort. Great views from the hotel facing the beach and fort. The spa is good
The not so good - service is not on par with a property that is marked as five star. The room had no coffee. Called for room service and was told they don't deliver coffee to the room because it will get cold. I have never heard that before. Had to call in the evening to get the room cleaned and after that we had to call again to get the amenities restocked. For the price that was charged for the rooms this is not the level of service expected.

The hotel is located in an idyllic spot - on the sea with the Dutch fort a few minutes away by foot. The rooms are spacious; some with beautiful direct sea views. We were given a free upgrade to one of these rooms, and we enjoyed the views and breezes from our terrace immensely. The bathrooms have Japanese-style toilets, which were a surprising touch. The breakfast was very good, and the staff from the front desk to housekeeping to dining was professional, warm and attentive. Our only complaint were the ants in the bathroom and in the bed. We gave the feedback to management. Given the location, it's likely that sealing up the source of the ants will address the issue. The property also has a very nice and updated gym, large pool, and other services on the property.

The Hotel is very good, with a good location near the Dutch Fort. The hotel has a mix of resort and modern feel.
Breakfast is good and has all what you would expect. There are good food options for lunch/dinner in the Fort.
Note: while the hotel is on the beach, you won't be able to swim in it. Beaches are around 20 minutes drive.

Wonderful hotel, highly recommended.

We loved this place. Spent ten nights in a plunge suite and it was beautiful-huge area, fabulous bathroom, extra comfortable XL bed and superb view out onto ocean, Malith our room attendant took care of our room daily and did a great job. The hotel is great, pool is beautiful and the pool attendant and bar man looked after us. The food from both restaurants is delicious, service across the hotel is brilliant and the team cannot do enough for you. Upeka from Guest Relations was lovely and really took care of us from start to finish. Very close to Galle Fort so lots to do. Highly recommend this hotel without a doubt.

I did not stay at this hotel. I was confined to 1 rated ( safe & secure) hotels as a foreign tourist. I had to stay in Heritance Negombo & Taj Bentota for a total of 13 nights. I also never book a non refundable rate at this time, since covid 19 requires flexibility.

Wonderful view of the fort. Really nice infinity pool and good sunset views. Nice large room with big bath. Lots of space. Friendly welcome.

Breakfast was OK - not amazing service and we had to ask a number of times for coffees, water, etc. Compared to the rest of our trip bottled water was pretty expensive here. The omelettes were tasty.

Really mixed experience in the spa. My massage was terrible. My partner’s was outstanding. Although they did not charge for mine in the end which was really good of them.

Unfortunately, despite the great position of the hotel next to the fort, for 2 days of our 3 day trip, there was horrifically loud deep techno music playing right beside the hotel at some private car sales event. It completely disrupted our stay but on the upside, did mean that we ventured outside the hotel and had a great day in Unawatuna beach and the really cute centre of Galle.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay but there could have been some small improvements to make it even better.

We have just returned from eleven days at Le Grand Galle,what a wonderful hotel! This beautifully designed property is ideally located and beautifully equipped. Our room was large and the balcony faced the magnificent sunset. The hotel is quiet and I would say most suitable for couples on honeymoon

My two gripes: There was no full length mirror in the room and the ghastly background music in the restaurant and bar area, It is monotonous and relentless.

World Class Hotel! Definitely stay here!

We've traveled all over the world and this is among the very best we've ever stayed at. The facility is beautiful and impeccably taken care of. It has been beautifully restored without losing any of its colonial charm. The food is incredible - even the cocktails are creative and excellent! The grounds are awesome, with the pool overlooking the sea, and are beautifully cared for. The Spa is fantastic - we had great massages, at a very reasonable price. The staff is AMAZING - everyone is friendly and accommodating - they even remember you and your unique requirements. We stayed here for 3 nights, went away for a week and returned, and they remembered us and gave us the same room, which we loved. This is also a great value for this quality. It compares favorably in charm and quality to the Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, but is slightly better (and a few years older!), but is MUCH more reasonable, both in the room prices and in the cost of everything you might purchase in the hotel. Also, the location is perfect! We'd strongly recommend the Galle Face!

The hotel is portrayed as being on the beach which it is, however it is a tiny area encircled by rocks. The tiny swimming area is filled with floating garbage. Not an inviting image. If you want beach you'll have ti go a few of kilometers south as in back on the main road and a fun ride in a tuck-tuck.
The rooms are spacious but you better not be modest as the bathroom is divided from the sleeping area by a glass wall. Although their is an attempt to screen the glass the curtain over the glass is transparent. Don't bring the kids.
You can see the old Dutch fort from the hotel property, but again out to the main road and another tuck-tuck ride to get there.
The staff is friendly, as are all Sri Lanlkans, but their ability to communicate needs some improvement. And their knowledge of area
attractions, activities, restaurants etc. is lacking. Perhaps some training and development opportunities here.
For the money check out other resorts in the general area. DO YOUR HOMEWORK. I have to admit I didn't and I paid the price. Way to much for this one.

This is a beautiful new hotel overlooking the Galle Fort and the ocean. There is no direct beach access/swimming but the swimming pool is lovely directly overlooking the Fort and ocean. The staff is absolutely wonderful in every way. Breakfast is a delicious feast and dinner in the Blue seafood restaurant is a must. One of the best meals ever! Only a 15 minute walk or 3 minute tuk tuk ride to the beautiful Fort with unique restaurants and shopping. Great attention to detail at this hotel. We will definitely visit again!

We had a lovely recent visit to Le Grand Galle. The hotel was very quiet as it was off season. They were kind enough to upgrade us to a room with a plunge pool. Fabulous! We loved that it was close to town so we could walk to the Fort (even at night).

Overall, the hotel is still growing up as it is only a year or two old but the rooms are amazing and the staff is very friendly. We look forward to visiting them again in future.

- Noisy AC system in the room makes it difficult to have a restful sleep

The resort is fairly new so in great condition, We visited Sri Lanka in May just after the terrorist attacks and the hotels we stayed at had less than 10% occupancy. On the negative side, some food items were not available (e.g. seafood as it would have gone to waste) and the resort was very quiet. On the positive side we were overrun with the friendly staff and had personal service. Special compliments to Suko at reception and to Lalith at the bar who was more like our personal butler!

Le Grande Galle is a beautiful new hotel with lovely, big rooms and wonderful views. The pool area is clean and the staff are very attentive offering drinks and water throughout the day. The breakfast buffet was great with a wonderful mix of local and western options available. The staff at the hotel were incredibly helpful and go over and above to make you feel welcome. Good proximity to Fort Galle, only a 5 minute Tuk Tuk ride away. My only complaint with this hotel was the sound of doors closing from other rooms echoed across the whole hotel and could be quite noisy, but this small detail aside I would recommend for a stay in Galle.

We were extremely pleased with our stay at this property. Beautiful location, excellent view from our room and great hospitality. Would like to specially thank Anu, Reshani and Sachil from the front desk team, and also Ruwan (beverage manager) and Ushan (chef) , who arranged an excellent private dinner by the poolside (in short notice) . Inspite of being vegetarian, they provided a vast spread of food options specially for us.

This is a very new property. It is in an excellent location to tour Galle, especially the Old Fort area. The staff are extremely helpful, the two restaurants serve a good variety of food and the whole hotel is spotlessly clean. Very dissapointing checkin. I found my same room for 60 dollars cheaper on the same website that I booked, but management did not return hotels.com calls or emails for 5 days. I wanted to upgrade to the ocean view (30 dollars cheaper than what I paid for my non ocean view, but they would still not accommodate and wanted 75 dollars a night even though it was 39 dollars cheaper on the same dates with the same website.

The bedrooms are very nicely appointed, but need some shelf space or drawers for non hanging items.
We loved the ambience everywhere, and the little rock pool by the swimming pool would be lovely for a dip if it was cleaned up. With the pollution locally this is difficult.

Brand new opened 6 months ago. View of hotel is excellent overlooking the Galle Fort, except when I booked my room with swimming pool view I expected it to be ground floor same level as pool but instead it was sort of basement level with a 5 foot wall to look past pool! So watch out & get the sea view rooms. We tried to switch rooms, staff kept saying yes you can see the pool 😱 false advertising!!! Be careful. Shower are great, air conditioners is cool.

Best service ever. And very friendly. They even opened the restaurant 30 min early in the morning to accommodate the early departure of my family to the airport. So excellent. Everyone was very friendly, but the receptionist, Reshani, was just exceptional and phenomenal in providing excellent services. She is outstanding!
