I booked one night at Coral Sea Resort in Airlie Beach as a treat for my final evening, based on the excellent reviews and appealing photos. Unfortunately, the reality did not match expectations at all.
While the common areas and pool are indeed beautiful, the rooms are extremely disappointing. They feel outdated, poorly maintained, and far below what you would expect from a 4-star property. The bathroom looks like it hasn’t been renovated in decades, the room itself is very basic and almost hostel-like, and even basic conveniences are missing — for example, there are no power sockets near the bed. The bed was also uncomfortable and the overall standard of the room felt neglected.
The most unacceptable part, however, was the breakfast. We paid in advance for breakfast included, only to be told that any hot food (eggs, omelettes, etc.) would be charged extra. The buffet consisted mainly of cold items like yogurt, fruit, and some cold cuts — no eggs, no bacon, no hot options included. This is simply not acceptable for a hotel marketed as 4-star. A proper breakfast should at the very least include basic hot items.
Overall, the hotel seems to rely heavily on misleading photos (some of which appear heavily edited or not representative of reality) and renovated common spaces, while the rooms are far below standard.
Very disappointing experience — I would not stay here again.

This resort is in a wonderful location. We had a lovely Sea View room. The staff was friendly and professional. We enjoyed the lounge area by the pool. Walking to town was easy and there were more food/pub options.

View from the Coral Sea Suite was amazing. Room was modern with a real beach resort feel, added bonus was daily room service and comprehensive continental breakfast. Only one issues was at check-in, we were directed to get to our room from the ground floor corridor, meaning we had to clime 2 flights of stairs with 50 kg of baggage between us. Turns out there was a lift to level two and a ramp to level 3, we were left to discover this ourselves

The restaurant and bar areas are beautiful but sadly close super early (don’t expect to eat past 8-8.30 and they will throw you out by 9pm as they are wanting to clean and lock up). The views are stunning, the pool is beautiful and well maintained. It really is a stunning location and very calm and tranquil. A great location for being near town and local bars and restaurants. This resort is popular with weddings (3 weddings over the 5 nights we stayed!) and therefore can be a bit noisy. However staff quickly shut down any noise after 10.30pm.

A lovely ocean side resort. Spectacular views and an easy walk into town along the waterside. The surrounding boardwalks have amazing views and feel very safe. Our booking included a continental breakfast which had a good range of cereals, danishes, yoghurt, fruit, toast/breads, juice/coffee. It was lovely but by day 3-5 I was craving variety and a cooked breakfast. Pack a warm jumper as it can be cool in the morning when having breakfast when it is windy (July).

Stay was good due to room with view, however missing things such as in-room minibar, and hotel service was not great - lacking in comparison to other hotels we normally stay in at this price range. This property is absolutely gorgeous. The views are breathtaking, the pool area is wonderful, and the location could not be more convenient as it is a quick walk to all restaurants, shops, marinas, etc. We loved our time here.

Friday afternoon checked in at 4:30pm after a tiring drive, had rose petals and wine waiting for hopefully my soon to be fiancée - the view was amazing she was in love with the room and view so much as I got on one knee and asked her to marry me she said YES!!!!!

Island living without the boat trip
Its the perfect place to stay if you dont want to go to an island but want the feel of being on an island. Its convenient to the rest of Airlie Beach and self contained. We felt very rested but it also had great atmosphere.
