Great location with easy walking access to many attractions, restaurants, and shops. However, I was disappointed that the booking indicated breakfast was included, yet I was later charged for it—and the cost was about three times what a similar meal would have been at a nearby restaurant. The staff were also not particularly friendly or welcoming, which made the overall experience less enjoyable. The location was a plus, but the unexpected breakfast charge and lack of hospitality were disappointing.

The room was quite clean and well ventilated; I didn't feel the need to use the AC most of the time. The common areas are beautifully decorated. I didn't use the pool or eat the breakfast, which is a separate charge, so I have no comment on them. I found the drinking water situation a little bit annoying. It's not provided in the rooms, so you have to fill one of the provided cups -- cups rather pitchers or bottles, mind you -- from a dispenser in the lobby. Otherwise, I was quite satisfied with my stay.

El hotel es lindo, tiene spots muy bonitos y por el precio estoy satisfecha, la alberca tiene buen tamaño pequeña pero linda, no la usamos pero es buena amenidad. Buena ubicación se puede caminar a otros puntos sin mover el auto, el estacionamiento tiene costo 120 pesos por día justo enfrente. El único inconveniente fue la atención del recepcionista que me recibió, cortante y frío, cerca de lo grosero.

The property is located in a very walkable area and the staff are kind and helpful. Beyond that, the king suite with bathtub and the pool area are very tired. My \"white\" towels were gray and stiff. The sheets were stained. The bed was comfortable. The pool just looked worn out and uninviting. The Expedia advertising says there is free parking but the hotel charged me 120 pesos (6 dollars).

In short, if the price was less than $50 a night, maybe it might have been reasonable. I just think the description did not match the experience.

Seemed like it would be a nice place from previous reviews. Our room was really nice and the air conditioning was necessary and worked well! It was over 94F outside. Unfortunately the pool was dirty and we couldn’t swim. That seems like something that could have, and should have been rectified. I did see that someone else reported this issue. The grounds needed some tending. The housekeeping and breakfast senoras were very kind. No English spoken, which was fine by us and it gave us a chance to practice. No food and drink available when we arrived at 8 pm, but the hotel is within a 5 minute walk of a main shopping street with all you need. Great location
No safety concerns. Lovely people. Great country.

The pool wasnt cleaned but we didnt need it. The bad thing was that our room didnt have windows at some of the places so we could hear right outside the hallway vice versa.

There was no elevator either so had to carry alot of luggage upstairs. However the receptionist helpes us carry.

The property is within a 10 minute walk at most of Plaza de grande and the historical buildings in that area. Plenty of restaurants are very good food. People are very friendly. The hotel offers free breakfast, but I don’t believe any other meals during the day, at least I did not see any, but I was out most of the day. The bathroom in my room could use a makeover, but it was acceptable, it was a little damp, but not uncomfortably so. The area leading to the rooms is lush with greenery and very pretty. The only real complaint that I have is that the pool is not working, and apparently hasn’t been working for a while so the water that’s still in. It needs to be drained as it is a little foul odor.

Tanto la ubicacion como la propiedad me parecieron muy bien, muy bonito lugar, el staff de recepción nos trató bien. Solo tengo una observacion en cuanto a la limpieza. Los cojines y la hamaca olian mal, como si nunca se lavaran, a humedad, a polvo a sucio, así que fue una lastima porque queria usar su hamaca.
La parte del baño requiere algo de atencion ya que olia a orines, no sé si el bote de basura o la base del excusado. El agua de la regadera tenia un olor metalico muy fuerte, no sé si sea normal de Merida por tuberias oxidadas. Y aunque suene qué me quejo mucho, por las noches ya para dormir el personal hace mucho ruido, se ponen a limpiar o no se, pero azotan mucho puertas o mueven cosas.

We had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for 4 days. We absolutely loved the location of the hotel as it was very close to many points of interest in the city, within walking distance but also far enough to enjoy some quiet. Our room was spacious, very nicely decorated, and clean.with the hot weather we loved that our room was equipped with both AC and a ceiling fan. This made it much more comfortable to sleep at night. As far as the staff we mostly interacted with Gabriel the front desk attendant and we loved with attentiveness and the polite manner with which he addressed our questions and concerns. He was super helpful in helping my husband and I reserve a tour to a cenote with a personal driver since it was our first time. Overall, we are so happy with out stay and cannot wait to be back in Merida and this hotel soon!

Delightful! The staff is wonderful. Very clean and fantastic location. Wonderful shower. La Negrita down the street has hopping amazing live music — but stopped promptly at 10 every night. Very quiet. We never used a taxi, just walked everywhere. Our room was slightly monastic because it was not a garden room (only the most basic room was available), but perfectly pleasant.

Lovely little hotel. Lots of open spaces filled with plants and rooms tucked here and there. A chef who makes even a simple breakfast a nice meal. A short 3 blocks to Paseo Montejo, and less than one block to the hot Salsa Dance bar and restaurant. Ditch the elevators and long hallways of you chain hotel and try this pleasant surprise.

A less fancy kind of hotel, but local culture

This is a modest but charming, artsy hotel a good distance from the main plaza -- not so long a walk that you cannot do it in 10 minutes or so, but not so close as to be stuck in traffic or bothered by commotion. There is a rooster that crows before dawn, but I found that part of the culture. Our room was not perfect in the sense of a corporate hotel (some stains in the floor and walls) but well maintained on its level as a less fancy kind of hotel.

Nice hotel but performs really poorly on basic services. The kitchen is not operated by the hotel, so they only serve breakfast from 8-10 AM. Same thing with the Spa and parking lot.

They do not have a liqueur license so you cannot buy any drinks from them (not even beer). Internet connection is not excellent.

None of these issues were openly informed before we made our reservation. If these issues are solved, it might be a good place to stay. In the meanwhile, there are plenty of boutique hotels in downtown Mérida, so I would rather stay in a hotel that does not have any of these issues.

I love how Hotel Marionetas felt like a house. The greenery around the pool was so beautiful and peaceful, and I loved the hammock in my room. Quite spacious room, comfortable bed. My room had windows on two sides which opened to the garden and pool area and I loved it. At night i could hear music from a nearby cantina which was quite enjoyable.
The only downside in my opinion was the breakfast. It was just okay. Other nearby places offer much better quality.
Hotel was a quick walk to many parks, the centre and groceries if you want some snacks.
Would stay here again based on location, quietness of hotel and comfort.

This was such a lovely hotel and great value. The room was super comfortable and pretty quiet (some music from the bar down the street but it ended by 10 or 11pm each night. We didn’t make use of the pool but it was very cute. Lovely outdoor (under cover) restaurant where you could get breakfast in the mornings. Staff were friendly and helpful. Plus there was a hammock in the room! Would definitely stay here again if I come back.

Delightful little 12-14 room hotel close to everything. Nice spacious room with a little garden outside our window. Bed was comfy. Unfortunately no coffee service in the room nor free water but I'd like to think that this was an oversight because their housekeeping was busy with checkins and outs. Very central and despite a previous review we had no noise from the cantina at the end of the street. We'd certainly return.

Absolutely love this place. I live an hour from Merida & spend the night at least once a month. The location couldn’t be better, seriously it is an easy walk to Paseo Montejo, Grand Plaza, Museums, great cantina steps away called La Negrita .... what I originally chose this place was because they have a family size hammock in the room. It’s a super fine quality hammock as are the beds & linen. My back demands that I sleep in a hammock.... I enjoyed the plush bedding & pillows. Hot, extremely hot water when I showered. Great pool, nice breakfast area and the food was great.

Small, quiet and peaceful hotel with only 9 rooms. The rooms were painted cheerful colors and kept very clean. Each day we received clean sheets and towels, and every 2 days a fresh bedspread. Two bottles of purified water were left for us each day, and we had a mini-refrigerator under the sink. The wood work on the doors and windows was beautiful! The air conditioning worked very well. The grounds are very well kept and have beautiful plants and flowers. Each day we had 2 choices of breakfast and could watch the cook preparing it from our tables on the covered patio. In addition to the main meal, we were served a plate of fresh fruit each day and a cup of coffee. The food was delicious. It is located within easy walking distance to the central plaza and various other plazas, Paseo Montejo, restaurants, shops and the Lucas Galvez Market. We spent 7 nights and didn't have one negative experience here.

Great location, Great Service - Good Experience!

We picked the hotel for location and it delivered for ease of access everywhere and convenience. It's near the historical Centro District, including Santa Lucia and Santa Ana so close to shops and restaurants. Other areas are just longer walks. We'd read complaints about a popular bar across the street but the crowds were pleasant, the music fun and the noise ended at 10:00, so we never found it a problem. The hotel rooms are very cute, very roomy, very comfortable and the staff is great. We plan to return to Merida and see no reason to look for any other hotel. Thanks, Rene, for everything!

Total scam - don't stay here!

This hotel was a big disappointment and it is full of false advertising. We chose this hotel as it offered free parking as we were driving but when we arrived we were told by receptionist that parking is $100/day. I disputed this and pointed at our reservation document that there is complimentary parking and receptionist said OK. Also it said in our reservation and all over the Hotels.com page for this hotel that breakfast is included. Receptionist said it wasn't and so I pointed again at our reservation document where it clearly states \"complimentary breakfast\" but receptionist would not budge so we had to go out for breakfast each morning, adding extra hidden cost to our stay there. We were also given a room with a broken air-con (room 8) as it always turned itself off after 15 min and staff just thought we didn't know how to work it. Once they had also tried and failed they moved us to room 7 which was much better. Overall, receptionist was unfriendly, never smiled and obviously could not care less about his job. Also: On Hotels.com it says there's a restaurant on site, there isn't.

This hotel was amazing. It is small and quaint and just absolutely lovely. The courtyard and pool are a beautiful site for having the delicious breakfast, the rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable and nicely decorated, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is also in a beautiful part of town, a short walk from the main cathedral, and across the street is a super fun cantina called La Negrita where we ended up spending several Happy Hours.

Quaint Hotel With All the Essentials

This is a quaint hotel located about a 10 minute walk from the heart of downtown Merida's main plaza. The hotel staff were very friendly, and they were accommodating to any requests that I had. There was one day when I returned to my room after a long day of touring the Mayan sites, and I was really looking forward to a shower, but the water was completely out. I went down to the front desk and alerted them to the issue, and after about 30 minutes they had the issue resolved. While this was an inconvenience, the hotel staff managed to fix the issue promptly, and I was pleased at their response.

My specific hotel room also did not have a good way to block the windows for privacy, since one of the windows only had a sheer curtain covering the window. This was an annoyance, but didn't really affect my stay, but it would be nice if in the future they could put real curtains on all of the outside windows.

I never had breakfast at the hotel since they don't start serving breakfast until 8:00am, and I was usually on the road prior to that time, so I cannot comment on that service, but it is available if needed. The hotel is also located right by a small convenience store where you can stock up on cheap snacks and drinks for the road. There are also plenty of restaurants nearby to choose from, so there is no shortage of places to eat within walking distance.

Worst experience of 50 year international travel. Walked away from 2 nights money.
Came at 1:15pm. check in 2p.m. Had booked five hotels through Expedia, thought all were prepaid, after sorting through this by using laptop to review confirmation turns out for some reason this one was not prepaid, fine, got credit card out and done. Guy at desk very friendly, little english but brought up translation page and we both used keyboard to smoothly work this all out.
Went for walk, back at 4p.m., new guy at desk showed me room, air conditioning and t.v. not working, walls dirty, bathroom cobbled together. Guy comes to fix things and thirty minutes later nothing works, shows me to other room, tv works but no air conditioning. I say I am leaving, guy says no refund. I say web-page says airconditiong he goes off to do other things. He speaks virtually no English. I leave
The place is not a hotel, any intimations of cutesy bed and breakfast nonsense, it is youth hostel at best. While standing in street loaded with luggage I ask passerby who looked U.S.,if they knew nearby decent hotel. One laughed and said we stayed at this place 2 years ago and the airconditioning did not work, at least I felt I made right decision. Walked toward center of town and believe it or not spotted good ol' Best Western. Women spoke fluent English, heard my story, gave me room on top (6) floor with expansive 180deg view. All things good, almost cried in relief

Pleasant, clean and safe - en el centro

This was our fourth stay at Marionetas. It's a nice simple hotel - very clean but it could use a little attention in regard to maintenance. The air conditioner is very noisy in the room we stayed in - had to let it run to cool the room down and then turn it off to sleep. Fortunately, the weather was somewhat cool at night so it was o.k. The personnel in the reception are not particularly attentive to guests but the kitchen staff are great. Rooms are kept clean.

Disappointing added costs and false description

I reserved the room with two queen beds. We were provided two full size beds. When I brought it to the attention of the hotel representative he indicated the website had the wrong information and that the hotel did not have rooms with two queens. I informed him the information was provided by the hotel. The front desk person was rude with no manners to treat guests. The size of beds are one of my determining factors in selecting a hotel. Also, by error I reserved for two persons rather than four persons. The hotel ended charging me an additional amount about 2/3 more than the room's original cost, even though I showed to the hotel representative that Hotels.com website had no difference in cost. As for parking, they wanted more per night, which I was OK with the price, however, the sign in their parking lot indicated half of what the hotel was asking me. The hotel tried to make additional money where they could.

In addition the acoustics in the rooms are terrible. You can perfectly well hear people walking and talking on the corridor at night. The bath room has a short wall open at the top to the rest of the room. No sound privacy. This has been my biggest disappointment.

1st Time to Mexico

This was our first trip to Mexico and location was based on proximity to the dentist office. After the shock of acclimating to Mexico we very much enjoyed and appreciated the kind and courteous staff, clean room and tourist advice. The daily breakfasts were simple and elegant. The rooms were decorated according to local culture. We plan on returning next year for more dental work and will certainly call Marionetas first.

I stayed in the junior suite. It was large, with two bathrooms, a kitchen, a private patio and good natural lighting. The location of the hotel was in a quiet area but stilll within easy walking distance to the activities in the central core of Merida. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Nice hotel, friendly and helpful staff.

We enjoyed two weeks here, and found the location and helpful staff perfect for us. We speak very little Spanish, but staff helped, and we always managed to communicate well.
Pleased to have had such convenient and comfortable accommodation so close to the major squares in the Cenrto district. We were able to walk to most places we wanted to go, and taxis were readily available, and not expensive, if we needed to go farther away.
Much to see and do in Merida, but sidewalks are a challenge in the Centro area, and need work, so be aware, and be careful!
Lovely climate, friendly people, and so much to see and do in the area. I recommend it.

Very well located hotel - clean and cozy. Nice rooms, pretty pool. Great value for the price paid. Breakfast was good: fresh fruit, bread and butter, coffee and orange juice. The only minus: the beds were a bit hard, and for a couple of my friends that made them a bit uncomfortable.

Authentic and nicely priced.. Just not excellent!

We had the pleasure of being in Merida for almost a month, we tried many levels of accommodations and different places to stay. This Hotel was fine, it is nicely located in Centro. The staff speaks pretty good English and the setting is very authentic. We did find the rooms very dark and a slight musty smell when the AC was on.. It was cool enough so we did not need it very much. The breakfast are basic, jam, rolls, fruit, a weird yogurt and extremely nice coffee. The WIFI was crucial to our stay because we were working, a couple of the days it was down, back, down, a little frustrating.. then it work! OVER ALL- good.

Best hotel in our Mexico round trip

We just loved staying at this beautiful Spanish colonial hotel - very central in a lovely neighbourhood. This was by far the best hotel during our 2 week Mexico round trip (and we have also stayed at 5 star hotels, which did not live up to Hotel Marionetas!). Great breakfast in an idyllic outdoor dining area, friendly staff and clean and spacious room. Great value option if you stay in Merida.

The hotel itself is good, cute little place with a beautiful garden. Rooms are clean and quaint. Breakfast is great. However the night staff when we checked in tried to overcharge us for extra people. He told us we had to pay $50 (or 500 pesos) for having extra 2 guests in our room but the next day we found out it should have been $15 (or 200 pesos) per extra guest.

I stayed at Hotel Marionestas for four nights in a business trip. I felt almost at home. The staff was nice and helpful, the location perfect and the price excellent. I really appreciated the personnalized breakfast formula with your table ready for you and the healthy food served with such kindness. The room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. I would recommend Hotel Marionetas without hesitation.

We have chosen the hotel due to the good ratings in previous reviews and it was all true. This is a perfect inner-city oasis. The hotel offers a very quiet courtyard with a little pool where they also serve a really good continental breakfast. Staff is very friendly. The room even had space for a hammock to be put up which is also available in the room, this was very nice and different. The location is also great, not too far away from the buzzing centre but still quiet. A few hundred meters away on the corner is an excellent bar/restaurant \"La Negrita\" which is highly recommendable.
