I booked this hotel by mistake. I thought I was booking a hotel in Wisconsin with a similar name, Sundara spa. I paid the travel protection fee and when I realized I booked a hotel out of the country minutes after I made the reservation, Expedia would not cancel this or immediately credit my account. It’s been three days and still no credit. I had to file a claim minutes after the mistaken booking. Then I booked a hotel in WI using Expedia again and when my daughter went to check in, they told her they had to charge her even though the room was paid in full bc I wasn’t physically there, she is 27, and I spoke with the hotel confirming that yes, I purchased the room and could easily show my cc and photo idea. They refused this and charged my daughter. I’m extremely unhappy with Expedia.

A Satisfactory Stay

I had booked the hotel for three nights from 7th to 10th Feb 2020. The hotel is well located on the main road with easy accessibility to public transport. The room was however without any phone/intercom, the shower head was broken and there were no chairs to sit on. the lady at the reception was, however very helpful and courteous and resolved most issues albeit after a while.
The swimming pool is rather small and shallow, 5ft being the deepest. No place for an exercise swim.
The breakfast was well prepared and offered good choice of continental and Sri Lankan cuisine. Overall a satisfactory stay, thanks mainly to the lady at the reception.

Sundaras is a little gem in the heart of Dambulla, great location for sightseeing and the hotel gives you a ‘real’ experience of Sri Lanka. Staff were amazing and at hand 24 hrs. Big thanks to Sean, Liz, Sindhu, Asita, Tito, Saman (our driver) and the cleaning staff. They really ensured we got the best experience out of our trip. We planned our excursions through the hotel, really well organised, although a little pricey hiring driver with entrance fees. Good range of food although not as spicy as we would’ve liked. Overall had a great time here.

My Stay at Sundaras Resort

This hotel is very close to the dambulla cave, thus making it good option to stay here. There not many restaurants around hence you will end up with less options. The food is overly priced , less in quantity in comparison to other places in Srilanka.. They had place 2 water bottles inside fridge in our room we used it, there was no price tag mentioned anywhere in room. Guess the price this hotel must have charged.... A bottle that costs 50 rs was charged for 250rs.. very bad experience.

Staff makes it worth it

The hotel itself not something worth coming back to as the condition is just above average, provides all facilities of a intetnational 3 star hotel and a bit more. But the highlight is the sri lankan hospitality of the staff which make sure to provide with everything u need out of their way. It truly makes the guest more comfortable and at ease. Based on that alone and a very nice central location I would recomend this to all those looking for a low to mid budget stay.

Horrible!! I'm surprised that there are so many positive reviews. Our shower and air condotitioner barley worked, fridge switches off when you leave the room, balcony was flooded, so we couldn't even use it. The room was filthy and there were bugs and insects all over. The pool was dirty and only half the jets worked in the spa also there is no heat in the spa. The food is terrible and staff are unfriendly. On top of all of this it's a complete rip off - the photos don't match the property.

All of this was brought up with the manager when we checked out. He didn't care and tried to charge us for additional drinks and a massage! Do yourself a favor and dont stay here ever!

SUNDARAS RESORT AND SPA - very good restaurant

Sundaras Resort and Spa was very enjoyable. The highlight for us was the hotel restaurant, it was great, with buffets that offered a varied and tantalising delicious array of foods to try - with being a coeliac and unable to eat gluten, the chef was great and personally showed me what I could and could not eat from the buffet. Their attention to us was warm, friendly and professional. The staff at reception were also very eager to help us in whatever way they could too - again very genuine and welcoming. We did experience some heavy rain periods and on the way down to the restaurant area from our unit at the back , proved quite hazardous with mud and water that could not seem to get away very quickly - this area could use some minor work to ensure the path stays clear and umbrellas in the rooms might be a good idea too perhaps, especially if like us , you are staying up at the back of the property. The hotel pool was lovely with bar and music, and well maintained.

Only sad point was what I overheard the receptionist Anthony say to the kitchen staff over the phone - ‘’ there are 2 guests who missed their breakfast so please find any leftovers food even from the ‘BINS’ and serve them!’’ To which I was absolutely shell shocked!!!!

Has great potential

Stayed for a 2 days whilst exploring the ancient cities, was a good base. Very close to the Cave and Golden Temple. The room was very clean and the first of house staff were very accommodating, offering flexible tours (to Sigiria). Unfortunately, during our stay, they gutted out the pool and only offered some guest the opportunity to go to another hotel to enjoy the pool. The food was buffet type, nothing to shout about. This place has great potential.

Convenient for all sightseeing around Dambulla; tours available from front desk. Staff very friendly and helpful in planning trips.

Room was spacious and clean; food was good. Plenty of fresh fruit for breakfast amongst other things and great Sri Lankan buffet dinner available.

On days you want to relax, the pool and pool bar is relaxing.

Good for backpackers who don't like to complain.

I think we were given very high expectations and this place seems to be good only for backpackers. Promised airport pick-up didn't turn up. No hot water in the room. Wi-fi available only on selected places. Bathroom not fully functional and many more. Mattress smaller than the bed and many more. Beautiful property very poorly kept and maintained. They charge you for water separately while you are on BF & Diner package - never experienced this anywhere. They give only two tea bags at a time with the tea cattle. Only recommended for backpackers, who don't complain. Will not recommend to any of my friends at all.

Run down and could be a lot better

Hotel grounds are very run down and messy. Grass area overgrown and random rubbish laying around. Room was not ready on our arrival past the suggested check in time and they were still cleaning it. Towels and bath mat washed out and grey, not appealing. Bathroom window not closing at all. No hot water in the shower. Construction going on all evening and starting again in the morning. Limited food on buffet and charged extra for water at breakfast and dinner. Photos make it look better than it actually is. Positives would be close proximity to Dambulla Caves and apart from the construction noise it was generally peaceful.

Small resort ideally located for visiting the Dambulla caves. The room was clean and spacious for a family of 4. The TV did not work - it only played a promotional DVD which was disappointing.
The pool was very cloudy and we didn't see anyone testing or cleaning it during our 3 day stay.
The pool bar was a joy at the end of a hot day exploring and climbing and the international staff were very friendly and chatty creating a lovely atmosphere.
Breakfast was a buffet and included both western and Sri Lankan dishes.

Booked in to older garden room. Tired in appearance with several things not working. Realised that night the air con was blowing air but not cooling. Hot sleepless night.Staff were ver apologetic when told and immediately relocated me to a newer poolside room. Much better fitout and everything else worked. Pool and poolside bar are ok althoughbeverything hascto be charged to yourcroom for a checkou total. Can't pay as you go. Breakfast was included and was exceptional buffet, choice of western or Sri Lankan servings. Had one meal and couple of drinks at the pool bar. Good and reasonably priced although dearer than outside restaurants.
Offers a range of excursions and I took the Minneriya safari. Great vehicle, wonderful driver and a fantastic day - value for money and hassle free. It is pot luck what you will see, we were very lucky with water buffalo, deer, foxes, many waterbirds, eagles, monkeys and lots of elephants. 3 differrent groups with about 50 elephants in each and we spent several hours amongst them. Normally there is a minimum of 2 persons required but as ai was the only booking, they sent a new staff member along and only charged me the group price. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. A range of other activities are also available, making seeing the local sites hassle free. On departure, staff mem
ber even hailed a local bus for me on the roadside at the entrance, making my ongoing trip simple.
Overall a most enjoyable sty for me (3 nights).

Nice resort with clean swimming pool. There is a spa but we did not use it and so cannot comment. The place is lush and so there are some bugs which is to be expected. The place is still being renovated and so the rough finishing is evident. It is a bit rustic. The walk to the rooms is out in the open and so if it rains, it can be a problem. The restaurant is very clean with only the occasional fly, which is amazing considering almost all other establishments seem to have a swarm of flies everywhere including on the food! The breakfast and dinner were good. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful.

The hotel had so much potential. The rooms were presented very well, but it all went downhill when they were not ready as we arrived at 6PM

There were 2 rooms unfinished meaning there was a constant drone of power tools and the mess of a building site right next to our room.

The wifi did not stretch to the room and could not connect.

Drains smelt all the time

Ill fitting doors meant light and mosquitoes passed easily.

The room did not not get cleaned or even new towels until I asked

The water stopped in the middle of the day - no shower or toilet. Despite complaining 4 times the following day was the same - not good after a great day out.

There was some building work next to the pool - again too much power tool noise, building materials strewn across the (badly lit) paths

Hotel.com website declared free breakfast - but this was not the case - took some convincing on departure to remove those costs from the bill

Staff were very friendly but powerless to do anything - the smiled and showed to act on requests - but nothing really changed.

Too many little things spoiled what could have been a good few days. Once sorted others may have a better experience.

We had a driver but no accommodation was available - they had to pay to find a room

Check in was not good. I arrived at after 5pm and it took over an hour to get the room ready when check in was supposed to be at 2pm!!!
Stay away from room 109 ... path to room 109 during darkfall is dangerous. .. as no lighting or bring a torch!!!
During our last night there... there was soooo much noise. I was woken up at 3am by work men and labourers doing building work on the premises!! I went to reception which was closed so i spoke to the Workmen in a very cross manner but it was not their fault.they were acting under the order of the boss who clearly failed to meet our basic needs!!! All in all somewhat disappointing experience

Sigiriya Family Vacation

We stayed at Sundaras as a joint family trip with some friends, using it as a home base for our trip to Sigiriya. The staff members were incredibly friendly and accommodating, no matter what we needed. They were all very sweet and attentive to our children, interacting with them and checking on them throughout our stay. The buffet was great, with plenty for everyone to find something at each meal. The property was very relaxing and quiet, with close proximity to everything we wanted in the area. I guess my only complaint would be the amount of bugs we encountered in our room and at the dining tables. This wasn't a big deal and understandable because the dining area was outside, but ants all over the dining table was a little off putting at times. It didn't detract from our experience - just a note. Overall, a wonderful experience with wonderful people!

Excellent place to stopover!!!

Extremely comfortable stay. We were very warmly welcomed when we reached exhausted, late in the evening after sightseeing at Anuradhapura and the Cave temple, which is next door to the hotel. Dinner and breakfast buffet is delicious. Full points both on quality and variety. They also have a reasonably sized swimming pool. We had a very pleasurable stopover before we left the next day for nuwara eliya.

Egészében jók a benyomásaim, kiváló helyen van, a Sziklatemplom szomszédságában. A szálloda állapota közepesen megkopott, új építkezés is zajlik, viszonylag csendben. A személyzet udvarias, előzékeny. Egy dolgot viszont kérek tisztázni: a kifizetett foglalás részletezésében szerepelt a napi palackozott víz ingyenesen. A kicsekkolás után derült ki, hogy felszámolták újra a napi három vizet 250 rupee/db áron.
Ha a Hotels.com foglalásában szerepel tévesen, kérem javítani, ha dupla számlázás történt, kérem rendezni, ha nem is nagy az összeg.

The welcome at Sundaras Resort & Spa was friendly and warm. Our rooms however clearly had not been cleaned in a while. We came with reasonably high expectations of this four-star resort, but wound up feeling a bit disappointed with the state of the resort. It made a somewhat derelict impression as if the accommodation had not been tended to in a while. From the outside it actually looks quite nice and staff did their best to accommodate us, but when you look below the surface, there is quite a bit of maintenance to be done.

Vi blev vänligt bemötta av trevliga Elisabeth i receptionen. Mysigt och tyst läge, med fint poolområde.
Njöt till fullo på balkongen, och fick lite djungel känsla, väldigt grönt och lummigt.

Fik først et værelse, hvor airconditionen ikke virkede. Fik et nyt værelse, hvor airconditionen virkede, men hvor lagnerne var snavsede. I det hele taget meget beskidt og med muk på væggen. Havde bestilt superior værelse med udsigt til haven, men fik efter værelsesskiftet et standardværelse uden udsigt til haven. Haven var helt overgroet, og poolen så beskidt ud .Havemøblerne var så snavsede, at vores tøj blev beskidt, når vi sad på dem. Dugene på bordene i restauranten var møj beskidte. Der var næsten ingen ansatte, og kun få andre gæster. Der var ingen service overhovedet. Hotellet virkede som om det var på vej til at lukke helt ned. Blev der kun 1 nat, da det var for sent at skifte hotel samme dag som vi ankom.

슈페리어 트윈룸을 아침,저녁 포함하여 2인 총 7만원에 결재했어요. 체크인하고 지나가는 길의 방은 좀 어둡고 별로였는데, 우리방은 바로 위에 수영장이 있고 좋았어요. 고급 호텔에 비할순 없지만, 담불라석굴사원에 걸어갈 위치였고 저흰 오후에 체크인하고 짐 풀고 약간 선선해진 시간대에 석굴사원을 보고, 담날 수영장에서 쉬다 체크아웃했어요. 짐을 박 맡기고 시기리아로 1박하고 다녀왔고 호텔 바로 맞은편 도로에서 캔디가는 버스를 바로 탈수있어요. 직원분들 엄청 친절하고 특히 우리 캔디가는 버스 챙겨주신 아저씨가 정말 고마웠어요. 그런데 버스터미널에서 오는 버스라 다 만석이라 결국 시내로 가서 탔어요. 저녁이 참 괜찮은 뷔페였고 가성비가 좋았어요. 시기리아를 새벽부터 가기 보다는 이 곳에 짐 맡기고 다녀오는것도 좋다고 생각해요. 아무튼 전 선달라에 대한 기억이 좋아요.

Mooi complex met zwembad

Ondanks dat het complex grenst aan een drukke straat, zijn de kamers niet aan de weg gebouwd, maar staan rondom het zwembad. Door de beplanting wordt een relax sfeer gecreerd, waarbij je 's avonds ook aan de poolbar een biertje kunt drinken.
Het restaurant is wat aan de prijzige kant, maar heeft lekker eten. De kamer was netjes.
Het personeel was ook Nederlands sprekend en indien beschikbaar konden ze je ook afzetten in het centrum, de temple of the tooth of helpen bij het vinden van de juiste bus.

Fantastisk!

Dejlig velkomst, hvor vi blev budt velkommen med kolde vaskeklude og te. Personalet var utroligt hjælpsomme og venlige. Gode muligheder for ture hvor der blandt andet er en god jeep safari og en tur til byen Kandy. Dejlig morgenmad med større udvalg.

ダンブッラ石窟寺院まで徒歩すぐでバス停も近く場所も非常にわかりやすかったです。
ただ、部屋は隙間だらけでヤモリがかなりいてました。バスルームのドアも閉まらず虫が苦手な方はかなり厳しいと思います。言えばフロントで殺虫剤を貸してもらえました。スタッフはみな感じがよかったです。

滞在ホテルでゆっくりしてください。一週間くらいは泊まって行きたい。

バスターミナルのもある近くて個人的には良いですね、
欧米人がほとんどです、滞在型ホテルです
従業員も明るくてフレンドリです。
滞在したいですのでアメニティのは持参して助かったですね。

街からはかなり離れており周りにも何もないが、観光やリゾートにはよいリーズナブルなホテル。入口がややわかりにくい。自然いっぱいで気持ちが良い。大きなプールやプールサイドのバーもある。
レストランはビュッフェだがやや高いと思う。朝食は込だと思っていたが、朝食代を取られた。
部屋は広くてきれいだが、シャワーの排水が悪く、水が溜まってしまったのが残念。また、自分の部屋だけかもしれないが、お湯がほとんど出ず真水ではないものの冷たいシャワーだった。さらに浴室にはアリの大群やヤモリ？なども同居。自然の中のホテルなので仕方がないかもしれないが、苦手な人は厳しいかも。
従業員は皆笑顔で親切。その他のサービスも良い。

Unser Katastrophalster Aufenthalt in Sri Lanka

Wir haben in diesem Hotel nach über 60 - Minuten Wartezeit das Zimmer Nr. 105 verspätet zugewiesen bekommen. Es liegt hinter dem Eingangshof und unterliegt dem Strassenlärm. Es hatte Schimmel an den Wänden, die Dusche war undicht, der Wasserkocher und der Fernseher funktionierten nicht. Geruch des Zimmers sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig. Die Verspätung resultierte auch daher, dass in unserer Gegenwart noch Ungeziefer im Badezimmer beseitigt werden musste. Unserer Forderung nach einem neuen Ersatzzimmer konnte nicht entsprochen werden. Wir mussten das Zimmer also unter Protest nehmen, weil es schon im voraus bezahlt war. Der Pool mit seiner Beschallung durch die angeschlossene Bar ist für Ballermann-Freunde ein Genuss. Das Essen war gut.

Preis/Leistung stimmen.
Freundlich, hilfsbereit. Garten könnte gepflegter sein, Personal bei Poolbar fehlte manchmal und war nicht sehr verkaufsfreudig.
Insgesamt empfehlenswert.
