Our stay was okay. The cabin itself was relatively clean, but the hot tub was terribly cracked/broken so not able to be used. Also, there were a lot of transient people that walked up to our windows while we were cooking/eating and just relatively going about our stay. Really no privacy which made it a bit uncomfortable. I wouldn’t stay here again

The hot tub was a nice touch although I needed to learn how to clean it and start it up. Olafsjordur basically shuts down at night with only one restaurant open after hours and no grocery stores. The property owner responded quickly to my call for pots and pans.

The cabins were really nice, and some of them look out on a spectacular view. Cabins were clean and warm, and internet was good. Not all cabins have a spectacular view. The instructions to check in were problematic as the keycode was never sent (or never received). In that case you need to go to a different hotel across the street to get the info. The area is beautiful but not developed for tourists yet.

This property advertising was misleading. We expected the cabin to be out of town and with more seclusion, with nature and space around the cabin. The cabins are in a line facing a nearly dry slew not a large lake or the fjord.
The TV didn't work. The cabins are beautiful, spacious and clean.

Great little cabin on an unswimmable lake

The cabin itself was great, with everything we needed (especially the hot tub on the porch!), but the pictures on the website make the surrounding area look a lot more remote and attractive than it actually is. The lake is very shallow and unsuitable for swimming, but apparently attractive to local jet skiers. The kayaks available for use are fun, but pretty beat up.

Very nice cabin in the north of Iceland, very clean and with all facilities. Great view, easy to check in, hot tub in porch overlooking the water and snowy mountains. Instruction about how to use the hot tub very clear. All in all perfect accommodation for us, probably the best we had.

We had a cabin for the night. Beds and linens were not very comfortable. There was a consistent buzz from something thru out the night, possibly the heating system. Not good value for the money. No restaurants open in town.

Don't be fooled by the pictures - not remote

A slightly disappointing experience when we find out that the cabins are in town - right outside the door are residential apartments, window looks on to a street, the hot tub looks on to another street. We essentially couldn't keep our curtains open without someone being able to see inside. (We saw people walking their dogs are we sat in the tub.) Street lights too bright for good Northern Lights watching. We used the sofa couch for the third person but sheets had holes in them and couch hard to figure out how to make into a bed. The cabin itself was functional and cute but don't be fooled that this is located somewhere remote. It's a hotel in town, but in cabin form. Hot tub was nice!

Bedroom too small for us

First impressions of the basic accommodation was cramped and dark.

Courteously, they upgraded us to a better cabin which was really well set up for a family with a new kitchen, dishwasher, fridge etc. Nice adjoining family room with sofas and the bathroom was clean and tidy.

The downstairs bedroom let the cabin down as it was cramped and you had to climb over one bed to the other which was jammed against the heater. Not too keen on the lumpy pillows either, found it hard to sleep. WiFi was in the bedroom and light shone brightly. So did the outside light which shone through the glass door into the bedroom.

Unimpressive, stay at the hotel instead

The cabins felt pretty dated and low quality compared to the hotel next door. Hot tub made a gurgling noise constantly, so wasn't very relaxing to use. And the mattresses were old and uncomfortable. Bad lighting as well. Overall the place could really use some updates and isn't worth the extra money you'll spend.

Don’t let the picture fool you. Unless you rent one of the two large cabins you will not have a view of the large lake and mountains. However, it was a good deal and we saved money staying here.

We loved this cabin stay!

We loved our stay at the cabin...it was our favorite place! The hot tub was great, overlooking the mountains. It was nice having complimentary tea/coffee in the lobby, and the town was very quaint! It also had a fun playground for my toddler to run around.

Must stay if you’re around the area!

I stayed in a cabin and it was clean and beautiful. There was a lake right by the cabin to watch the sunset/sunrise and also the hotel offered free kayaks and boat to rent for the day. There was also a private hot tub in our cabin which was a perk and it was nice to take some time and relax after a long day of driving. I wish I got to spend an extra night there but there wasn’t much to do or see around the area. I would recommend this place to anyone who is visiting the northern part of Iceland. I also got to see the northern lights the night I stayed there. The front desk lady was also really friend and helpful with all the questions I had.

Amazing Views and awesome cabins

Awesome cabins on the lake and surrounded by mountains, they are clean and well stocked with everything you would need.Loved the hot tub we got with our cabin as well.You wake up to a view of the lake and mountains covered with Snow usually.They give boats and kayaks for the lake. Coffee is available at the reception 24x7. Overall highly recommend the cabins. there are hotel rooms as well but with a family we would rather use the fully equipped kitchen and extra space. the only thin is that hotel rooms have breakfast included and cabins do not.

Cabins old. Difficult to open windows. Located in the middle of town. In reality cabin setting completely different than on pictures. Small cabin fits 2 we were too crowded as a family of 4. I would not stay there again. Owners very nice and try to be helpful

Great location, views and accommodations. Had planned a relaxing day in our 12 day road trip and this was a perfect choice for us. Our 2 20-somethings got to kayak and we got to hike and relax in the outdoor hot tub while enjoying the view.

The cabin was great! It was spacious and had a little kitchen with hot plates to cook. The kayaks outside were free to use. The hot tub was great! We had our own private hot tub. This is a very small town off the Ring Road. We enjoyed walking around the town and looking at the house and scenery. I think 1 night is perfect. You may get bored if you stay two nights as there isn't much to do and you have to drive through a long tunnel to get in and out of town. We enjoyed our stay!

On par with a trailer park...

Our family of 5 stayed one night. The cabin is basically at the end of a residential street. Our cabin overlooked the fjord, which was very private. For whatever reason, there was a strong odor of dead fish that hung over the area. It didn't bother us when inside, but we all laughed every time we ventured out. The photos are expertly done. The reality is that you will not be in a postcard setting. The gal at the front desk in the main building was lovely and very helpful. Oh, and the single bathroom has a shower that could double as a phone booth, complete with accordion door.

Great stopping point in northern Iceland

Stopped here on our trek around the Ring Road (we went off the circuit up to Olafsfjordur where there is a great outfitter to see the Northern Lights though weather got in the way for us sadly!) ... had one of the large cabins facing the lake, spacious & comfortable, enjoyed hanging out before we moved on our way. Staff super friendly and helpful!! Would go back!

Cabin is just at the edge of lake with beautiful view of the lake. It has all the amenities you need for long stay such as complete kitchen set, satelite TV, large living room and three bedrooms. The only thing needs for is another bedroom would be nice.

Great little cabin in the middle of nowhere. It was a perfect place for us to stop for the night, and the kitchenette was wonderful. Saved us from spending a couple hundred dollars on dinner. Plenty of space for 4 or 5, and the hot tub was amazing after a long day of driving and sight seeing.

Beautifully Situated Hotel and Friendly Staff

If I could do it again, I'd make sure to have gotten the cabin. The hotel was fine, but it was awkward having two twin beds pushed together. I was amazed that the boats and kayaks were complimentary. The food was pretty good and the breakfast was great. It's a beautiful part of Iceland and I'd definitely come back...just in a cabin!

Wonderful cabin and staff. We were going to arrive a little past 11pm, when they close, and the front desk was willing to wait for us to arrive. Fortunately, we arrived just before 11p, but unfortunately, I wish we arrived much earlier to really enjoy our cabin and the area since we only stayed for one night.

Lovely getaway.

The clean and comfy cabins were a real treat after being in many hotels on our two week trip. I especially loved the whirlpool on our back porch facing a fantastic scenery of mountains and stream. I would highly recommend them if you are coming to this part of Iceland. The manager Kristijan was especially accommodating.

Quaint and friendly. Worth a stay.

The staff at this hotel was super friendly and helpful. We arrived horribly late, and they stayed at the desk for us. They helped us with the boat (you have free use of their boats and kayaks on the gorgeous water), ran a beautiful free breakfast each morning, and always greeted you. I can't remember, but I don't think there was a tv in the room. We just hung out in the lounge and watched tv after out boat ride to kill time. They cleaned our room and changed sheets after our first night, which was nice. We would have put a do not disturb sign up but they don't seem to have those in Iceland. The town was super cute (stinks like fish a little though! oh well.) and had great views in every direction. We found the local outdoor pool and had a really fun afternoon of warm swimming surrounded by the mountains and crisp air. It was fantastic! The little cabins they have looked amazing, but they were all booked. Maybe next time!

Beautiful cabin where you'll never get bored

This was the best part of our trip to iceland. This hotel has so many things around for you to enjoy. The cabin was a perfect size for us two. You have your own hot tub to enjoy on the lake. There are kayaks and row boats for you to enjoy at your own leisure onto the beautiful Lake. Great views. The hiking nearby is great too. I would definitely stay here again if I ever come back.

8 hour drive to get there through scariest driving conditions ever. disregard garmin satnav when it tells you to go off road. cabin was beautiful if not very basic. Hot tub wonderful.Kitchen and bedding very basic but we didn't expect 5 star. Would certainly go back in the summer but this is not a place when they have had deep snow and -13 weather. we couldn't stay for 2nd day due to weather and drove 9 hours back to capital the following morning. Don't be put off, manager was really good and refunded us for the night we didn't stay even though he didn't have to. very friendly but as i have said, the location is absolutely stunning.

Not in a remote area!

Cabin is comfortable but if you go there in the winter expect the wind to pass through the windows. Also the cabins are NOT in a remote area, as the official picture would suggest. They are facing a boulevard.

Free kayaks and row boats provided. Cabins have hottubs on back porch - semi-private setting. Plenty of free parking and coffe/tea in the lobby. Kitchens in cabins are provided with cooking implements, hot plate, water kettle, toaster, plates, and silverware. Small refrigerator. Bathroom is clean but very small - stand up shower, etc.

The cabin was cute. The kitchen facilities are very small. No microwave or oven. Only a hotplate. The hot tub was lovely. It is a nice location on a lakeshore. The scenery around the area is worth the detour off the ring road. It would have been fun to take out the kayaks or boats that they had available for use but it was too windy when we were there. We had fun sitting in the hot tub outside watching the ducks and their babies.

30 mins from Skaftafell Glacier for climbing

Hotel is the closest we could find available near to Skaftafell so we could do a glacier climb the next day. It's in the middle of a lava field with great views of Vatnajokull ice cap on clear days. Dinner is Buffett and fairly expensive 45 euros each. Breakfast was good. Wifi was fine.

Awesome!!! The views were epic, you could see for miles from the hot tub.

The cabin was very sound. Even though the wind was blowing gales, the were no rattles or drafts.

Our only regret was that the visit was too short.
