The view overlooking Oslo is breathtaking.

The hotel rooms are NOT made for couples. The rooms are ridiculously small.
The toilets were so uncomfortable because the sink was literally in your lap.

Lifting suitcases up and down three flights of stairs was not fun, since there isn’t an elevator on the property.

We arrived to be told all of the hotel unionized staff (most) were on strike. As such, no daily room service, no hot breakfast and no compensation. Hotel in a wonderful location. Great views. Remaining staff were stressed but accommodating. Bed comfy. Able to use our Netflix account on the TV. Pricy restaurant food but normal For Norway

Beautiful hotel. Take the Metro 1 line from National Theatre in Oslo, take it to Voksenkollen (blue line) and it's a 11 minute walk from the station up a hill.

Hotel is beautiful. Lovely scenery as you are at the top. Lovely staff. Lovely food. Beds very comfortable. Picture was during a morning from the hotel. Breakfast is mainly continental with eggs, bacon and beans added only.

It was very nice and quiet. We had a lovely time walking in a snowy forests and then relaxing in the hotrl. It was very foggy so we didnt see the views but that means we need to come back. The staff was very welcoming and the facilities were good. We had nice breakfasts and evening meals.

Stayed here the last night of a long trip and it was very relaxing! Check in and check out process was quick and easy. Free breakfast had everything we needed to get our day started. The room was a good size and had a comfortable bed. Sauna and fitness rooms were as advertised and the restaurant Bistro 501 was very good and fairly well priced for Norway. The room we stayed in was actually not attached to the main building but in a separate hallway, up some stairs and a hill - this was fine for us but if you need some kind of accommodation I would make sure to email the hotel when you book.

The information on this site informs of a restaurant and bar, there are pizzas available which are fresh and tasty but this doesn’t constitute a restaurant nor does a set menu meal if you are invited to take one although only by pre-booking!
Also this website gave wrong information on distances from my chosen point, 22 miles was quoted which would have been ok, but it was nearer 50 miles and that took in excess of 1 hour in each direction on top of a working day!

We really enjoyed our 3-night stay! This place is only a 30-minute metro ride from the center of Oslo, yet we felt as if we were in a national park. The atmosphere here is incredible. You're in the middle of the forest, looking down on the city of Oslo and Oslo Fjord.

The property is clean and comfortable. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is extensive; there's something for everyone with an array of good choices: yogurt with a zillion toppings, cold cuts, cheeses, eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, waffles ...

Our room was sparsely furnished but had almost everything we needed -- I say \"almost\" because if I could change one thing, it would be that we would have had an extra place or two to set things down -- an extra little table or a ledge or even a couple of hooks on the walls. And if that's the worst thing I can say about this place, we did just fine! We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Great location overlooking Oslo - spoilt by noise

Lovely hotel. Great food. Handy for the train into Oslo centre. Stay spoilt only by the fact that our room was under the dining room, so we were woken at 11pm and again at 6am by tables and chairs being dragged across the floor. Really annoying late at night as it went on for over half an hour. Otherwise a really great place with fantastic views from the terrace.

Warm and friendly hillside hotel sitting 501m above sea level providing stunning views overlooking Oslo.

The hotel felt orientated to the outdoors with Winter Olympic influence and facilities nearby (also has conference facilities). Outdoor pool, sauna and small fitness centre on site.

Modest and functional rooms, quiet hotel given location although will depend on your neighbours!

Breakfast buffet was great with plenty of choice.

Overall, would recommend within classification.

TINY room & toilet despite being far from the city

I booked this hotel based on the high ratings given by others, but was shocked when we entered our room.

Given its location, which is away from the city centre, perched on some high mountain, we were expecting the room to be at least a decent size, if not, of generous size.

It's hard to imagine that given its location, the room and toilet size still had to be scrimped on.

We travel a lot an have seen hotel sizes of varying ranges, but this one is even smaller than rooms and toilets in Japan!

In other hotels, even if the size is small, the design is smart, so that it still allows you to do what needs to be done.

In this hotel, even using the toilet was awkward. It was not even possible to sit properly on the toilet as the sink came right up to the chest - you'd have to sit at an angle. I find this absolutely ridiculous. You also wouldn't even be able to use the sink if you closed the toilet door, as there is insufficient space to bend forward.

I find there's no point commenting on everything else as this major point is a huge turn off for me to discourage anyone from staying here.

Oh yes, and, there was no elevator in the hotel. Take note if you're traveling with many luggages.

PROS:
- Nothing can beat the spectacular view...! Ask for a room with view.
- Breakfast is AWESOME.. Both hot and cold items include eggs potatoes meats, various array of cheese and breads and fruits, many choices of cereals and yoghurt, juices and hot beverages..!!
Breakfast is included in the price..!!
- Lobby has great cappucino machines.
- Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was adequate.
CONS:
- However the rooms get very hot due to lack of cross ventilation and affected our whole nights sleep. Ceiling fan or ac is reqired. That is why I gave a 2 out of 5 for room comfort.
- Also guests be informed that the rooms do not have iron and ironing board.

3 storey building no lifts no help the rooms are smallest I have ever stayed in for 2, 3 or 4 star - ridiculous !!!! Gross misrepresentation as a 4 star - not even tissues or tea making in room. Staff are off hand when asked for help.

This hotel is quite far from central Oslo but offers the best views of Oslofjorden and very pleasant environment on the top of Holmenkollen hill.

It is ideal if you are into sports or would like to be away from the city's buzz.

A train stop is at 5 minutes walking distance and it takes 30 minutes to the centre.

The hotel was pleasant, the rooms were good and well-furbished.

The only disappointment was the restaurant with its variable food quality and quite bad service.

The location is superb, fantastic view.
The room was a bit run down & the pipes were noisy.
The rooms curtains were translucent, which may have looked nice, but didn't block out the light so I was awake at 5.45am with the summer dawn :(

Lovely hotel - what a jewel

This hotel room was super clean. The Hotel is filled with art and the staff was over the top with friendliness. We were in Scandinavia for 2 weeks, and found this to be a jewel of a hotel. The views are fantastic, the rooms are comfortable and the food was fantastic. Although dinner was a small menu - we could have dined in Oslo and taken the \"T\" back to the hotel. Other writers mentioned the \"long\" trip into the city - but don't believe that. The \"T\" was clean, quick and safe and well worth the trip to have such a great hotel.

We traveled with our 10 year old son - and the hotel provided a roll-away cot that was comfortable and stylish! This hotel felt \"safe\" and \"full of culture\".

We used the Gym and the pool and enjoyed hiking as well. But, the best part was enjoying coffee and drinks on the balcony.

For the price - you can't afford to stay in the City.

Our stay at the Voksenaasen was near perfect. The food was outstanding and the staff was accomodating in everyway. The only thing not perfect was the distance to the T-Bane, especially for guests with limited handicaps. However, that did not take away from our enjoyment of the time in Norway. Should we return for a future visit, we will choose the Voksenaasen for lodging.

Voksenaasen Hotel in Oslo Norway

The hotel is wonderful and the rooms were great. The breakfast was spectacular with plenty of variety of food and bevarage each morning. The view from the hotel was great and the hotel is near good cross country skiing. The only negatives I can think of was the late night disco music in the bar above my room on Saturday night ending around 3 AM. Bring earplugs in case you are in he rooms under the bar. Also, the walk to and from the T-Banen Voksenkollen stop gets a little old when the weather is cold. But you are in Norway so expect winter.

Perfect view of Oslo

The hotel is located in a very beautiful area of Oslo, far from the noisy streets but still so close to the city. Surrounded by beautiful nature both in the summer and the winter. Only five minutes walk to the subway that will take you to the city central in 30mins. Excellent and healthy breakfast. Friendly staff.

wonderful hotel outside Oslo

The only drawback of the place is that it is outside Oslo.
It can be reached on metro in 30 minutes from downtown.
Oh, and another one: the place is on a hill, and you have to get your luggage there by yourself.
I found it was worth it, given that its considererably cheaper than Oslo hotels, especially given the quality.
The room was comfortable, with a touch of nice design.
A typical view from my room window was: nice lawn, then further away trees, then a fog.
Breakfast was wonderful (lots of fruit, cold cuts; smoked salmon, warm dishes, yoghurt, cereals).
I had one meal at their restaurant: the choice is very small, but the food is great. Prices a bit below Oslo prices (which are very high).
I enjoyed the metro ride there a lot: outside Oslo has steep hills and is very green

Good choice if you have a car

A nice place to stay if you have a car: it's a 20 minute drive from downtown Oslo, but the road comes with beautiful views. The hotel overlooks Oslo and is situated in a huge green area: nice surroundings. Parking is free and inside the premises.
The room was basic but clean and comfortable. Internet wi-fi was available everywhere. Breakfast was excellent. Dinner was expensive so we decided to have ours in downtown Oslo.

Voksenaasen Kultur og Konferanse Hotel in Oslo

This hotel is a beautiful place up in the mountain side of Oslo. We don't recommend this place if you are looking for something in centre of town or have heavy luggage. It seemed like an epic journey to the hotel. First of all, we made the mistake of booking this hotel without reading the reviews of others about the construction of the train line. The train that would normally take a short time to this hotel is under construction until Dec 2010 so a bus service is in its place. It takes about 30 minutes bus ride to Majorstuen station and then you take the metro into downtown. The commute would have been more convenient with the train. The views of Oslo center from the hotel was spectacular and apparently it is very popular for the ski season (there is a ski jump on the hill). When we were booking, all other hotels were sooo expensive in the center so this hotel was a good deal if you have time for the 45 min ride. Other than that this place was great for the breakfast buffet, nice staff, etc.

Konference center has pros and cons

Pros: it has magnificent view of the Fjords and city. It was very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was good. Staff was friendly and helpful. Would be a great location for skiing in the winter. Probably had some nice hiking trails but we there more for the city sites on this trip.
Cons: The room we had was somewhat small but we did go for economy over comfort. If you are primarily visiting Oslo city center, it's a bit out there (25 minute bus ride) and bus stop is 5-10 minute walk uphill to the hotel. Bus fares can get expensive (without Oslo Pass which they do sell at the hotel). Hotel is somewhat isolated: no restaurants or shops within walking distance.

The hotel is well outside of Oslo. That wouldn't have been so bad if the T-Bane was running, but it wasn't. The bus did come frequently, and was very punctual, but we weren't expecting to take a bus ride every time.
The menu in the restaurant was minimal. Four main courses--Hamburger, French Fish Pot, Grilled Salmon, and a Vegetarian dish. On the other hand, breakfast was very good.
We felt like we were intruding staying at this Conference Center. It is advertised (in Oslo) as a Conference Center vice a Hotel. For it's close proximity to the ski jump, we would think they would be a hotel with a full-menu restaurant--especially since there is only one other place to eat...and it is up the road.
If you are trying to get out in the countryside, this is a great place. If you are visiting Oslo and want to take public transportation to/from the city (which was our plan), we don't recommend it.

breathtaking view

This hotel is nestled in the mountain side of Oslo. The view from my room far exceeded the low price I paid! The hotel room was quaint in size (common European size) BUT the amenities were countless! The hotel has many simple \"going green\" concepts which I appreciated. These concepts did not make me go out of my way in routine, they opened my mind to small changes I, too, can make! The breakfast (covered in hotel rate) is out of this world. I looked forward to the fresh light and healthy breakfast daily. I can't say enough good things about the quality of this hotel. The neighborhood is a mountain community. The hotel is just about 1/2 mile walk from the bus stop that takes you to the city. The hotel is a nice way to get away from the city center and appreciate nature. Though, if you want to stay in the city center you will want to look elsewhere. I would recommend anyone who wants a peaceful retreat in Oslo to stay here especially at the great rate I got at this website.

Not a very nice stay

First of all, the information said \"air conditioning.\" No air conditioning! We selected a double bed, but when we got there we were told the hotel was full and we had two single beds. Very difficult location to get to - ALOT of construction! This hotel is definitely for \"nature lovers.\" We booked this hotel because the hotels in downtown Oslo were completely full. Would not recommend it to someone wanting to see Oslo - it's out of the way.

Beautiful environment but boring

The hotel and it's surrounding environment are quite spectacular. However, nothing is easily accessible, and our shower was very small and difficult to use without flooding the entire bathroom. As I'm a senior citizen and walking is somewhat difficult for me, hiking trails were out of the realm of possible activity for me. As a result, there was literally nothing for me to do but read for the entire visit.

Voksenaasen Kultur og Konferanse Hotel

The hotel is situated in the hills behind Oslo with a wonderful view of the city and fjord from the dining room. It is accessible via a short metro ride, a 30 minute bus ride anda 6-7 minute walk. The buses are frequent. By the end of 2010 the upgraded metro will be re-opened, replacing the bus. Because of the distance from the city only one trip a day is practical. The surrounding area has many pleasant walks and is a nice contrast to the city.
The room we stayed was in a separate building to the mani hotel. It had been recently modernised and was very clean and pleasant. The staff were helpful. In a very expensive city it is also good value .

Good hotel in a pretty/ scenic location. However, if you intend to be based in main downtown Oslo this hotel is probably not the best. The walk from the bus/ subway station can be challenging as it is quite steep on the way there. Add in bad weather and a family including pushchairs and it becomes a nightmare.

I got a very good price when I booked this hotel a day before I traveled to Oslo. The hotel was perfect. Large, spotless, comfortable room, great breakfast, tastefully decorated common areas, free Wi-Fi.

The hotel is located on the mountain, overlooking Oslo, near winter ski resorts. I knew that it was not in the city when I was booking it, I also knew that I could easily reach it by subway. Unfortunately, the hotel website did not mention that due to track repair the subway was not running the whole summer. If I knew that, I probably would not have booked it. There was a bus running instead of the subway. It was very reliable and quite comfortable, but it definitely took longer than the train would.

In the end I do not regret staying in this hotel. I just wish I was told about the subway not running when I booked, instead of finding about it when I arrived in Oslo late in the evening.

The hotel, staff and location were fantastic. Atmosphere in the hotel was very cultural, paintings and artworks everywhere. A calm, colourful and very relaxing environment. The view from the hotel is wonderful - you see the whole of Oslo from the terrace. We appreciated the free coffee and tea and fruit on conference days. Even though the train was not working due to works on the line we enjoyed the bus journey up to the mountains every evening - the air is very fresh and cool and we loved the wild flowers - lily of the valley and wood anenomes. We felt we had the best of both worlds - city and mountain life. The Oslo pass for 3 days was great value and hassle free. We visited the Fram, Kontiki, Viking and Volksmuseum and took the boat out to the islands in the bay (take your insect repellent with you!). Public transport is absolutely fantastic - a bus, tram or metro appeared within minutes by magic. Avoid the taxis - very expensive. The hotel swimming pool and ladies sauna are out of action (I had a sauna in the men's). We were so lucky to find the hotel (only because the Eurovision Song Contest was on in Oslo - all the cheaper b&b were full). but the hotel was worth every penny.

I was a bit scared when I book for a hostel but the Norwegian concept of Hostel is totally different from the ones in the Mediterranean region. This hostel was very clean and the staff was always helpful. The room was very clean I shared it with two Swedish blokes and all perfect. Perhaps the only bad point was the toilet, but I wouldn't blame the hostel but the guests that cannot leave things as the found it. Will defo go back to it. Access to the hostel is a bit difficult but you'll get use to it. I wouldnt recommend it to old people if they dont have car, since their's a uphill which will make it very hard. But the good thing is that the Ulriken (tallest mountain in Bergen) is just there next to you, thumbs up for this!

Voksenasen must mean excellence in Norwegian

Voksenasen is a very unique hotel experience. Located high above Oslo, Norway, Voksenasen offers a breathtaking view of Oslo by day and by night. The hotel is located inside a cultural and conference center that is dedicated to the Swedish effort of providing support to Norway during and after WWII. There is constant activity of conferences that provides a unique experience of meeting folks from around the world. The hotel staff is very professional and all of them make you feel at home. I give Voksenasen my highest recommendation! I have extended my stay by two months! Need I say more?

One of the most beautiful hotels I've been in one of the most beautiful cities. Really a hidden treasure up in the mountains. Can't think of a better way to experience Oslo. Don't tell everyone about it.

4 day break in May

The hotel is in a great location if you want to get away from it all. You can get a train to 10 minutes of the door and its only 30 minutes ride to the centre. However, the kitchen wasnt open in the evening and this is in May. Also the swimming pool was not open which was really a shame as it was 30degress heat. The breakfast was a little disapointing and especially on the last day when there was barely anything there. The reception staff were pleasant enough and the room was great but the bathroom was a little unclean. Overall though a nice place to stay outside of the centre and we got it for half price on offer.

Situation exceptionnelle sur les haiteurs d Oslo. Hôtel plein de caractére moderne et cosy. Belle vue bel environnement en pleine nature. Pour les sportifs le jogging du matin dans les bois ou encore sur la piste de la coupe du monde de biathlon. Et surtout un tarif qualité prix super avec un petit déjeuner buffet de qualité. Le restaurant reste dans des prix corrects pour la Norvege.

Vi kom to gutter på motorcykler. Og vi var kom lidt sent på aftenen. Personalet var flinke at vente på os og holde restauranten åbent så vi kunne få lidt mad.
Dejligt værelse, udsigt og morgenmaden var rigtig god.

Rimelig hotell, og helt greit så lenge man har bil til å komme seg fram med i relativt høy snø.
Rimelig parkering innendørs i parkeringsgarasje - kr. 130,- pr. døgn.
