Mutiara is not a typical beach resort—it’s a true eco-resort designed with tradition and sustainability in mind. It’s also actively run by the long-time owner—no corporate chains here.

The most important things to be prepared for: no AC and no hot water. You sleep in lovely teak and rattan cottages with mosquito nets and plenty of fans. Which means this is a chance to experience what SE Asia was like 40-50 years ago (and of course the same way lots of locals live today). The food is terrific, prepared for you personally by very attentive staff. There’s kayaks, SUPs, and plenty to do—fishing, cooking classes, massages, etc. It’s all very affordable.

Trust me, you won’t want to leave. This is one of those places you never forget.

Nice quiet beach,helpful staff,basic accommodation

The staff are super friendly and helpful, food is very good and well priced, my partner took a massage and really enjoyed it, the beach is lovely and it is very quiet and relaxing.
The accommodation itself is very basic, but that’s ok as long as you are aware of it. Main disadvantage for me is that toilet is outside the hut and only has cold water for showering. A solar powered water heater would be an ecofriendly option if maybe they want to upgrade at some point. Our bathroom door didn’t close because the frame was a bit rotten so when you pushed to close it would push the frame out as well. So that needs maintenance.
The other disadvantage is that the only place where you are safe from bugs and mosquitos is inside the netted bed. So you better take loads of mosquito repellent. They provide some and also coils to burn but those bugs are persistent!
We weren’t very happy with the tour we hired. The driver didn’t know where he was taking us, didn’t speak English so gave us no information and we ended up having to point at things in the map and he would drive us but we didn’t fully know what to pick so I wouldn’t recommend that.
The staff is the highlight of this place, they will do anything they can to help. We had a nice time overall and thoroughly enjoyed our visit

We enjoyed the river and the ocean and all of the nature that surrounded us. The staff were attentive and kind. The food choices were good and quite delicious and at a fair price. It was a peaceful, rejuvenating resort in a natural environment.

The resort is quite simple but all the essentials are here. The food is good but the breakfast could be improved as the choice is limited. The beach is sandy and very convenient for kids. It's perfectly okay for a (long) weekend. Note: be aware of the sandflies.

Real indonesian experience in serenity of nature

This an eco-hotel, in rustic, traditional indonesian houses. Great experience but dont expect Hilton level comfort. The closeness to nature was unsurpassable. THe hut is facing the beach and the river running on the other side, right behind the back porch.
Monkey are running around the property. The beach is unbelievable and practically empty (we were in low season), but very well maintained. The service is extremely accomodating. You can order drinks/food anytime of the day, and have it anywhere around the huge property. Andy was fantastic.

Peaceful excellent stay!

Amazing - absolutely amazing! I loved the location and the accommodation. The food was excellent too. Don’t come here if you are expecting 5 * comforts, but I liked it all the better for that. Peaceful with beautiful simple accommodation. The staff were really friendly and helpful. My visit was too short / I will be returning!

Great experience nature resort in Bintan

We have stayed at the resort 4 nights/ 5 days in July 2019 as family of 4.
Overall, we have really enjoyed the nature and beach they have offered.

The restaurant has quite extensive menu with varieties as an isolated nature beach resort, so we enjoyed a lot. The breakfast has 5 choices, and we especially enjoyed fried rice, fried noodles, and crepes. Drinks are separate charges so as water.
For water, you have 2 choices, 1. Buy bottled water 2. Rent a refillable water bottle with unlimited refile (charged per day per person)
They give us 330ml bottled water every day as complimentary.

Since this resort is in the nature, there are many wild animals and bugs. I am a city girl, so I got over 45 bug bites all over my body during the stay, however, my husband and our daughters were country people with nature, so they did not react to the bug bites at all.
One of our daughter got jellyfish bite, and it was quite bad, however, resort staff gave her a vinegar and first aid. The staff members and owner are very nice and friendly, so as 3 lovely dogs on the property.

The massage/spa is simply fantastic, highly highly recommended. We all 4 of us did 75 minutes full body massages, and we all agree that this was one of the best massages in our lives for sure.
Just avoid the mosque praying time since the mosque is just next door to the spa and their praying is very loud, so it is difficult to relax.

This was a lovely little break, getting back to nature without all the mod-cons. The rooms were quaint, but would be great if they had have decent sized ledges in the bathroom. Stairs to shower from the outside would also be handy so you don't walk sand through the living area.

Food service really needs to be improved, especially when they automatically add 10% Service Charge on. The food comes out ad-hoc, which they advise they need for cooking etc. But then waiting 30 minutes for a bowl of cereal, 30 mins for a beer, 20 minutes for a cup of tea only to be told they don't have any, bringing out one drink at a time, forgetting other drinks, consistently being told they don't have an item on the menu 20 minutes after ordering etc is pretty slack and gets a bit annoying by the third, fourth and fifth meal.

This hotel is a lovely little getaway from the hustle and bustle of the wider world. Amazing setting along the beach and within nature. We loved it's eco approach which made you appreciate the experience even more. We had a lovely massage in the river spa, which was made even better being coached to our appointment by boat - which was so nice. Within the two days we were there it felt like time stopped. I really hope to return very very soon.

Great place off the beaten path. A great experience for someone looking for a traditional stay in Indonesia and not looking for all the bells and whistles of a western lifestyle. If you come to Asia, experience living like one.

If you want to avoid all-inclusive and tacky resorts and want to be in a more natural setting, this is the place! The staff is extremely friendly, the cabanas are clean and wifi works well. Spa was also nice, located on cabanas in the nearby small river. Being labelled as «green», you would expect a little less control over Nature though, and let natural vegetation regrow in a wilder way nearby the river and the ocean, plant more trees and have as little grass as possible. It could have a large organic garden for example, and a program to educate local population and international guests about the benefits of protecting the environment. Maybe a program for collecting plastic on the beaches nearby, which is everywhere and is a total shame to let it there!! With goodwill and a little investments, this place can set an example and become a touristic hotspot.

I understand this is an reco resort, so will not penalise the odd creepy crawly (yuk!) in the room. There’s also plenty of mosquito or insect repellent in the room you can use. The staff are friendly too, and more than happy to assist your requests,like removing the fly/ bug or providing portable lamps in the event of a nlavkout. And the shower and bath is pretty basic but clean.

My pet reveals though? VERY insecure lock from the outside that can be yshed own. And there’s no safe to put your money/ passport. Yes I understand this is an eco-resort butsecurity for travellers should be default irregardless, not an option.

Beach front resort

Very nice but basic with wooden cottages in a serene and pretty area on the beach.
Each cottage has a double room with shower but no hot water. Very friendly staff and good spa.
Relaxing and remote. Reliable and cheap taxi service and the firefly night trip was wonderful.

Great place to get away from it all! Remote feel. Great food. Very relaxing peaceful and quiet. Great massage. Very affordable spa. Beautiful beach. Great place if you are looking for more rustic, outdoorsy and adventurous places. Beds are fine but basic. Mosqito nets work well but cold showers are never fun (no hot water). Also half the grounds are barren and cleared awaiting more huts. Staff is very helpful. Drawback includes long taxi ride from main port about an hour each way for $45 each way. Would recommend this to adventurous travelers.

Great beach escape

A simple but yet beautiful beach bungalow experience. Use the provider provided mosquito repellent!! Beautiful and empty beach right in front of the bungalows. SUP board and kayak rental provided. We will be back.

5 Days @ Mutiara with young kids

We spent 5 days at Mutiara with kids 2 & 4 years old. The hotel is a nice change from the typical resorts you find in South East Asia. It has a very relaxed atmosphere with lots of spaces for the kids to explore. The accommodation was comfortable and clean (as other reviews mention if you are big on amenities this may not be the place for you). The staff were friendly and attentive. We had massages at the river spa which were great. The beach has beautiful sand and the water is quite shallow which was great for our young kids. There were a few jelly fish floating around while we stayed - but we managed to find a few spots beyond the sand bar that were free of them. There was quite a lot of rubbish on the beach beyond the resort itself; but, this is not unique to Bintan, we had a similar experience at the beaches in Bali last year. We visited during the last week of Ramadan, which was fine for us, but if you don't like the substantial noise that the mosques generate over this period then avoid those dates.

Great for a weekend getaway

We had a very relaxing and enjoyable time. The transfer from and to the ferry terminal was arranged for us and we encountered no issue at all. We stayed at the River House, a very charming room with attached bathroom -- perfect for couples. The staff was extremely helpful and the surroundings and beach were peaceful and pleasant. We enjoyed nice food prepared with quality ingredients and the nearby SPA was a great addition.
Do bring insects repellent for mosquitoes and sand flies, although the resort is well equipped providing mosquito coils, nets and some complimentary repellent.

Perfect getaway from city and commotion.

I'm Indian and typically can relate a village from my grandma's home. This was such a place. No Air Con, within trees and closest to beach. Insect sounds etc. What's the point in going to another 5 star hotel with pool when you already come from similar lifestyle. I didn't use much of mobile and just enjoyed the stay. However, for people not used to this life style, might be challenging. We had several rain during nights with thunderstorms over our cottage. Though we felt comfortable, might not be same for others. Food was expensive(equivalent to SG restaurants), but was of good quality. Staffs were extremely good. They were natural and not trained to please. Unusual stay but satisfactory. Loved it!

An extremely relaxing environment, quiet and peaceful. Amazing massages and totally in contact with rural Indonesia. Fantastic situation right on the beach and almost got used to the exhilarating cold showers! Bring your own wine!

Inexpensive but comfortable place to stay. The staff are friendly and work hard to accommodate their guests. Only complaint is that the food is overpriced. After the first meal, we decided to eat outside of the resort as a few much cheaper options were available at walking distance.

Quiet place, amazing beach

Mutiara is located in the northern portion of Trikora Beach area. The place is mostly quiet and good for a relaxing trip. The beach is amazingly beautiful (and with wifi access!). Make sure to try the spa/massage service here. There were some problems with sand bugs, so make sure to apply bug repellants in the area.

Secluded, beautiful but can be better...

The property is beautiful but requires a lot of maintenance and doing up. It has tremendous potential for improvement, beautification by planting floral tress and plants, old stained linens in the huts need to be replaced with new fresh ones.
Overall food was below average. Wasn't healthy or tasty. The pizza base was uncooked, local food was super super greasy, breakfast could include more simple and better options. Not many options for vegans or vegetarians. Perhaps training can be given to the locals in western and healthy cooking.

This place is a little piece of heaven...for whoever wants to stay in Bintan Island away from the impersonnal atmosphere of Bintan resorts and enjoy a relaxing time close to nature, in a cosy friendly atmosphere

I had a wonderful time in this little paradise where you have access to any facilities you want (if you want) for nature-oriented sports and experiences (sea bath, jogging, riding, kayaking, swimming, spa-ing)

I'll admit that the place surprised and worried us when we first arrived. We got there after dark, so we couldn't see anything. All we knew is that we were spending the weekend in a grass hut with no attached bathroom.

But the next morning, after exploring around with some light, we were very pleasantly surprised. Sure, it was still more like \"glamping\" than what you'd typically associate with a resort, but the weekend was sublime. We were totally unplugged and enjoying the gorgeous beach and jungle.

The hut was still comfortable; specifically the bed surprised us with its high comfort level since Asian beds tend to be very hard. The restroom wasn't attached, but it was clean and had running water so we were able to shower and use the facilities without issue.

We were very happy with the restaurant as well. The selection was surprising and the food was fantastic and very reasonably priced.

The beach, though a bit dirty the first day, was beautiful and the water was perfect. We also noticed a staff member out both days cleaning up the beach, which helped a lot.

I wanted to give the service its own paragraph because the staff at this place are phenomenal. They provided us with a late dinner on arrival, which we appreciated so much, not having had time to eat before leaving Singapore. The staff were friendly and attentive and went above and beyond for us like that all weekend.

I don't have room here to be more detailed but we loved this place and recommend it highly!

Place infected of mosquitoes and Sand flies

I would like to share with you the terrible experience i had on the long week end of 12th Sept 2016. We spent 3 days at this guest house and we have been non stop bitten by either mosquitoes (in the resort, bungalows and restaurant area) and sand flies (beach area). The management gave us repellent, coils for the bungalows and at the end cortisone but the place is so heavily infected that you can't escape from the bites. My little 4 year old girl has been very badly bitten and I am worried that we might develop dengue. Sand flies bites are extremely painful with itchiness which can last for over a month and marks which can stay for over a year. I am very disappointed as i checked before with the management and they don't flag that it was such a big issue. The fact that there are signs on the beach (to alert on sand flies) and the fact that they have cortisone tell me that it is quite frequent. I will not recommend this place as for a beach holiday you expect to enjoy the beach in a bikini and not in long sleeves and long trousers. That is a shame that they can't offer a free and safe environment as the setting is lovely, the staff is very nice and the spa good. However i will never ever again come back to this place. Evelyne

予約確定後にフェリーターミナルシャトルサービスをお願いしたら、無料ではなく600,000のタクシーを紹介されました。Hotels.com に問合せのメールをしても、日本人で無い担当者が代わる代わる変な日本語で回答をはぐらかすします。そして、3回くらいのメールやり取りで、ブロックされました。
回答は、無料と記載されていないものは全て有料とのことです。HPのどこにもそのような記載はありませんが、担当者はあると言い張ってからブロックです。宿泊代と同じくらいのタクシー代を支払う価値があるかは、皆さんの判断です。私は騙されました。完全な詐欺です。
Don't be fooled. When I requested the ferry terminal shuttle service after the reservation, I was introduced to 600,000 taxis instead of free service. I sent inquiry emails to Hotels.com, non-Japanese representatives responded in strange Japanese words. And they blocked my email account after about three email exchanges.
Their answer is that anything not listed as free is charged. There is no such statement anywhere on HP, but they insisted it. It's up to you to decide whether it's worth paying the same taxi fee as your accommodation fee. I was deceived. It is a complete scam.
