This is a beautiful castle hotel overlooking the Rhine. The hotel and rooms are immaculate. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is excellent. The location is great if you have a car otherwise the train is fairly convenient but a long walk down the hill. The castle museum located on the property is amazing.
Our room, while very pretty, was very small with no air conditioning. I would suggest requesting a room on the first floor because of this as well as there is no elevator. There was no where to put our luggage except on the floor. I requested a luggage stand and they brought me a small table to put it on. When we arrived, the staff was very helpful with carrying our bags to our 2nd floor room, however, when we checked out for an early flight, there was no one around and the reception was not open.
Despite some of the negatives, the hotel is first class and beautiful.

This hotel is fantastic and very beautiful. The staff are the best and very professional. The afternoon tea was great with a full selection of small treats. The breakfast was excellent as well. This castle boasts a museum and the opportunity to explore which makes it a great place to visit with children even if just for the day. Of our 2.5 week trip to 3 countries, staying here was the highlight.

Hotel in a castle

Wonderful staff. Great customer service at front desk and restaurant. My room (which was barely any more than others in the area) came with free breakfast, free castle entry, and free afternoon tea with sandwiches and sweets. We were upgraded to a suite with a balcony and views of the castle. Nothing bad to say about my stay.

My kids and I stayed here. It was such a delight. There didn't seem to be much to do right in the small town where we were. The castle was perfect though for one night. We did the entire tour, had tea which was incredible, and then eventually had dinner which was also great. Breakfast too! We hiked around the town a bit and came back to hang out on site. If you stay for longer, make sure you check out the neighboring towns if you are looking for more to do. It is the Rhine for crying out loud, there is plenty if you have the time.

A truly special place

Absolutely gorgeous location - really spectacular! Everything was first rate. The restaurant was superb, we had dinner there twice and both meals were fantastic.
We totally loved afternoon tea. The view from the veranda while drinking a nice glass of Riesling was just beautiful. And don't miss the museum next door - very interesting with some lovely views over the river.
Unfortunately, our room was very plain, it could have done with a few pictures on the walls or some more TLC but that is a minor complaint when compared to how excellent everything else was.

What an incredible experience. Exploring the Castle grounds in the morning and watching the sunrise from the tower is a memory I will never forget. My son loved everything about it as well. He especially loved the wild boar on the dining menu. The staff was amazing. Thank you again.

An Amazing Esperience

The hotel was beautiful as a castle should be. The grounds were beautiful and the rooms were comfortable and spacious. A couple friends and I were hiking the Rhine River trail and it was an amazing splurge! The restaurant was delicious and the museum was fascinating. We were even able to have afternoon tea.

Frustrating Start, overall enjoyable

The start to our stay was not good. We got off the train at Trechtingshausen and Google Maps told us to head down Mainzer St. to get to the hotel. The entrance from Mainzer St is very steep and dirt path that was quite grueling with our heavy luggage. Once we got to the top out of breath, we realized there was a road that we should have taken. We arrived at 7pm and the reception building out front was closed and the gate to the castle was locked. We were confused for quite a bit before we tried the restaurant on site. They had our room keys. Im sure part of it was because of our language barrier, but as much as we spent on the hotel I would think they would know we might encounter these issues and let us know earlier in the day. The room was clean, but very small. The rest of our stay was just fine, no complaints, just a bad first impression.

Local Favorite Castle

This is an amazing place for sure with a long rich history. There has been a lot of work done to make this place a great place to stay.

This castle is located in a very small town so there are no additional shops or restaurants within walking distance. For picky eaters, this could be a bit of a challenge.

On my visit, the menu located outside of the restaurant had more options than what actually was available for the dinner menu and I had my reservation set for the opening of the dinner service.

My room was clean and nice with a free bottle of sparkling water. There was a bee that apparently lives in the door to the restroom but it didn't trouble me so I didn't worry. While I got the bee out of the room, it came back a couple of hours later and went directly back into the door. Funny.

With the limited number of rooms and being on a weekday, I was able to take a virtually private audio tour. It was nice to get pictures without other tourists in the photos.

It’s a beautiful property and the museum is great. I had an issue with communication/lost in translation event that was unfortunate but, that was as much my fault as it was the hotel desk clerk. There could be a greater emphasis / advertisement to customers as to what is available / what comes with your stay. It seems like we just stumbled into things - could have easily not known (for example - free headphones for the museum tour for people who stay at the property) had we not had to ask about them.

I was very impressed with our stay at the Hotel Burg Reichenstein! The staff were so friendly and we had a delicious dinner and breakfast. The rooms were spacious and the bathroom shower was amazing! And let’s not forget the castle! The views and museum are incredible. I would absolutely stay here again!

Great for a babymoon!

We really enjoyed our stay here! The rooms were small but very comfortable, bathrooms were great, and staff was nice. We also had the breakfast which we enjoyed, although didn’t realize you can order from the menu and that was included int the price! That makes it amazing for the price!! Only downside was there wasn’t a lot right in the area, but it was only about a 30-40 min drive to some amazing restaurants and cute areas! Love this place and highly recommend!

We spent one night in this castle hotel. the room is not big but clean and new. We got a room with partial river view from the window. We could hear the trains passing by but it didn't impact our sleep so much. In sum, I will highly recommend it as it is kind of experience.

Waiting forever.

The hotel was very nice and modern in a unique setting. I had heard that the food in the restaurant was excellent and anticipated a good meal. Unfortunately, the anticipation lasted for almost two hours before the single course we ordered was served. I asked the reception desk why the service was so slow. The clerk blamed it on a new inexperienced staff. Unless this staff gets it together soon I suggest bringing a deck of cards or an iPad for entertainment while enduring the long wait for food.

Staying at Burg Reichenstein was a wonderful experience! The rooms are beautifully done. The setting is gorgeous. The castle is amazing. Hotel and restaurant are beautiful. The food was fantastic. The only difficulty we had was there was no air conditioning and we had to open the windows, but there are freight trains that are going by very frequently. The hotel provided ear plugs, but it can still be very difficult to drown out the noise. Hard to sleep with all the noise and no air when it's warm.

Caution! No hot water! Ongoing problem!

Caution: This hotel has no hot water for showers! We had two rooms for one night. Neither room had hot water either upon our arrival or the next morning. We were lied to and told the reason was that too many guests were taking showers. We were also told that the water heaters were going to be replaced that day (day of our departure). Upon checkout, we were finally told the real reason...the hotel is in a 3- year battle with their construction contractor and they will not fix the hot water situation until it is resolved. It is unfortunate, because the hotel's location is beautiful and quaint. The rooms are small but adequate. But no hot water? Totally unacceptable.

It is a hotel in a castle with a magnificent view of the Rhine! Amazing experience. Pack light as there are no elevators but that seems to be quite common in German hotels. Restaurant Puricelli gets 5 stars! Best meal I had in all of Germany. Room was clean and very comfortable. Would not hesitate to recommend!

Comfortable hotel that was easy to find, excellent check-in and staff. One night stopover at a quiet time of year. There where not that many guests so parking on site was easy, space is limited so it could be a problem; there were several cars parked on the road leading to the hotel. After a long drive we had an excellent evening meal there and the breakfast was limited but saved having to stop on the next leg of our journey. Did not have time to explore the area

Disappointing given expectations. Nice bathroom fixtures but lukewarm shower. TV and in-room tablet didn't work. Breakfast was mediocre and expensive - bad combination. Note - lots of noise from frequent trains passing below, as well as from restaurant guests in the courtyard.

Wonderful hotel with terrific views of the Rhine

This hotel makes a wonderful impression throughout. The staff was courteous, attentive and friendly and the rooms were spacious and fresh and beautifully updated. The castle and grounds are very interesting and fun to explore, including the antler museum. (Parents should ensure that children are always close by). The restaurant served regional specialties and I would happily recommend it and the hotel. The only downside is that taxis are not standardly available at the small Trechinghausen train depot. It is a real challenge walking uphill to the hotel with luggage so make sure you make taxi arrangements beforehand if not traveling by car.

Amazing hotel built into a 1000 year old castle. Room was lovely with a great view of the Rhein and the castle (Ask for the Wedding Suite). Service was great, food was great. Take a tour of the castle if you have time. Loved it.

The castle has an ideal location overlooking the Rhein River and both our rooms in the adjacent building had river views. We spent time exploring the castle and grounds that anyone may visit for a small fee Euro 5.50. Be sure to take the path before the drawbridge to climb for more views.
We ate at Puricelli Restaurant - the food was good but expensive. Although there was plenty of room around the table for serving, my nieces plate was whisked in front of my face to serve her.

Great hotel next to the castle Burg Reichenstein. Upscale hotel with great views of the Rhein river or castle. The rooms are comfortable but not for longer stays as there are no closets or drawers or even a table. The bathrooms are interesting, beautifully done but toilet, shower and sink are separated; it's a bit odd to have the shower in the room/hallway with only a glass door so no privacy at all. Bed was comfortable and we loved the old world charm such as tube and knob light switches. No elevator so be prepared to carry your luggage. The castle is absolutely worth a visit but I think the admission fee of Euro 5.50 should be included in your room price.

Traveled with my daughter - delicious food, great service and we enjoyed sitting in front of the fire in the lobby at night drinking our tea and chatting. Our room was quiet and comfortable. The hotel is very well done, plus we loved the castle effect! Parking is minimal but otherwise wonderful experience.

The castle is beautiful, and the views are breathtaking. The hotel staff was wonderful and very helpful. I speak broken German, but they understood our English well enough and made us feel very welcome. The food at the restaurant was fantastic, and the breakfasts we had there were wonderful. We took the nearby train to Bingen and enjoyed the shops and restaurants there during the day. Bingen was also charming and friendly. We highly recommend this hotel!

We enjoyed our stay here very much. It was our last night of a three week European trip. Had a great room overlooking the Rhine. Felt like a fairy tale princess. It was a little noisy with the windows open with the trains going past but the view was worth it. No elevator so had to carry up our luggage but this was very common in Europe. Lovely decorated room. Dinner was very good at the hotel. We were a little disappointed that we had to pay for the museum. You think as paying guests of the hotel you would get into the museum for free. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

The hotel is lovely and the castle amazing. There was construction going on under the entrance, and it was almost impossible to get assistance to get our luggage to and from our room. Dinner COULD have been amazing- a well priced 5 course tasting menu, with matched wines that was well done. It was, however, significantly diminished by the presence of a 9 month old baby who cried, whined and required attention constantly while her parents did all 5 courses. There was also a DOG in the dining room (quiet and well behaved, until the baby got it all upset and barking). This was not a fast food meal, and the staff should have offered the family another space than the small intimate quiet dining room (or offered those of us enduring what was clearly an uncomfortable situation an alternative- the dining room next door was empty). NOTE: I am a parent, and at one point all four of my children were under four years old. They did fine dining, but were NEVER allowed to disrupt anyone else's meal. This couple were proud of the fact that they were the center of attention, and it made a potentially memorable experience almost intolerable. Staff made no efforts to get this under control. It made us sad and angry...

The prices are very reasonable and rooms newly renovated. Our room overlooked a stunning valey and the river, it was very clean and quiet. In the same building is restaurant Puricelli. The name sounds Italian, but it serves excellent German food and local wine, the staff is knowledgeable and speaks perfect English.

Amazing and Disappointing

It was amazing to spend the night in a castle. The room was spacious and comfortable. Our only negative is we did not get to tour the castle or grounds because we arrived at 5:55 pm and it closed at 6:00. I cried when I found out! This was one of our highlights at the end of our trip. We drove for hours and was so disappointed. Of course, this was our fault, not the fault of the hotel. I do think it would have been nice for them to keep open for at lease 20 minutes or so, but the nice gentleman working there allowed us to take a picture a little closer to the castle. We appreciated that. Still left disappointed that we missed it.
Maybe someday, we will get to return.
