The wall above the bed was torn up and had a lot of plaster falling off. A very large bug, looked to be a mud dauber, flew on me while on the bed.
No refrigerator in the room. The carpeting was torn near the wall. There looked to be a gap in the brick wall near the window. Men were working on a new deck (2nd floor) with impact drill drivers before 7am.
There was no staff, upon arrival our paperwork was sitting on the desk along with two others, not sealed with room number, name and code to get in the door. Breakfast was basically non existent. We will not stay there again!

The room was clean. All the outlets worked and the shower is nice. There are several nice restaurants in a walkable distance. I'd suggest letting the staff know if you will be arriving past 5pm. Check in and check out was very simple. I did not get to sample the breakfast as I was out before it even started.

We loved our stay William Watson. The building is steeped in history and our room was very cozy with exposed brick walls and antique furniture. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay but please be aware that there is no elevator. We were on the third floor and had to haul our suitcases up the very narrow staircase. It was not a problem for us but certainly could be for some.

The front desk was incredibly accommodating, we needed to switch rooms and she helped with my kiddo so I could move parking. The cafe is NOT handicapped accessible and that’s where you check in- if you have a cane you might be alright- a chair forgettaboutit & stop in Hannibal or Jacksonville. I don’t know that I would choose to stay here again, the staff is amazing, but there was little sound proofing to the rooms, as a single mom not having a deadbolt or safety chain made it difficult to not jump awake at every noise. There is not an elevator or luggage cart- so if you’re traveling heavy it can be cumbersome if your room is on the 2nd floor.

Air conditioning unit was right over the head of the bed-felt like I was catching a cold every morning when I woke up. Had to leave it on constantly cause humidity was so high and no windows in the room. Bathroom faucet was clogged so it took a long time to drain. It said breakfast on their website, but it amounted to snacks. False advertising. Was not a good visit at all and will never stay there again

We loved our stay here. An 1838 building tastefully renovated. Comfortable bed, nice shower. Keys are at the desk for you when you check in - very casual - but we were fine with it. Hold by a nice family. We didn’t see staff very much, but they were just a phone call away. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

This is a historic hotel built in 1838 and located on the main square. Abraham Lincoln used to wait here for verdicts to come back in the courthouse. It is old and charming. If you want ultra new, this isn't the place. Great coffee shop catty corner to the hotel. It also served lunch and breakfast, and there is another diner on the square. Staff are helpful and accommodating.

I like the character of the place especially the exposed brick. The furniture is such a mishmash of styles which is fine if they work together but this didn't. For example the bench and the table in the kitchen area were great and fit into the old fashioned feeling of the room but the two metal chairs didn't go at all. The lamp in the kitchen area was awful. The top of the toilet tank didn't fit. There was no one at reception, just the key and paperwork and the rooms aren't numbered so it took some time to find the room. For the price of the room I expected a bit nicer. Paying more attention to little details would make the place better.

A Hidden Gem

This is the most quaint and precious little boutique hotel. It is located right on the square. My room had a perfect view of the local city hall. Both the lobby and my room were decorated with original time-oriented pieces. I absolutely LOVED this place and will definitely stay here again!!

This is a very historic old hotel in the middle of Pittsfield, Illinois, an area that Abraham Lincoln frequented. It has a very rich heritage. However, check-in was unique -- the keys are left on the front counter because there was no staff on site. I thought that was most unusual and not very secure. They also use regular keys and not electronic ones. In addition, there was no deadbolt on the room door making it feel less safe. Finally, when we first got into the room, we found a number of crickets and other insects which we killed. We spent our first 30 minutes hunting down the bugs and eliminating them. Since there was no staff on the property, we had to take care of this ourselves nor could we request another room. However, having said all that, the staff was very nice and helpful the next morning. They were very friendly and we enjoyed talking with them. So, in spite of the bugs and the unique check-in process, our stay was pleasant and we enjoyed it.

If you are ever in Pittsfield IL stop in and stay the night.

This historic hotel was so beautiful and very clean. The exposed brick and moldings were gorgeous. Sometimes beds in motels and hotels can be very comfortable. We had an excellent nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. It was a bit sobering to be where Stephen Douglas and Abraham Lincoln were at so often. I highly recommend if you want to step back into history.

An older hotel that was beautiful and well maintained. I would definitely stay again and plan to if we ever go up north again. Felt very safe in this hotel and in the area. The lady at front desk was very sweet and gave us lots of information. If I would give any suggestion at all it would be to fix the mini split in the bedroom where I stayed. The air in the living room area worked well so they gave us a fan to use to blow into the bedroom.

Lighting was lacking but the attendant brought us an extra lamp which worked fine. Operation of heaters was a little difficult to figure out. Breakfast was lite but sufficient. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

While we love staying at William Watson and have stayed there several times, we realize it might not be everyone's choice. The building is over 100 yrs. old and though it has certainly been modernized, it's not like staying in a new hotel. If you love the history and don't mind climbing the stairs, you'll love it.

Our room and the property were super clean and very interesting. The bed sheets and pillows were super comfortable. There are many dining facilities within a few blocks walking distance, which made it easy to choose from. The only issue we had was a man knocked on our door at around 10:40 pm telling us he stayed in the room the night before and was his expensive phone charger he left plugged in still there. I told him no it wasn't there and he left. My daughter called management's phone number, who confirmed there was someone in the room the night before for a golf outing. There's no one at the front desk after hours so you're given a code to get in. Apparently, this guy still had the code. We were a little scared after that, so we blocked the door with a bicycle and chair and were still able to get a good night's sleep.

This small town, historic hotel cannot be compared with large corporate properties, and that is a good thing. It relies on friendly service, vintage decor and the intimacy of almost 19th century charm. I stayed in the Lincoln Suite, and one may have wondered if Ol’ Abe was about to walk in the door to spin a few yarns. It is connected with a coffee shop with good food and all the usual coffee concoctions. If you want a fitness room, rubber sausage breakfast and turn downs, stay away. If you want to step back to a more relaxed experience, come on down. They even use real keys!
