The view alone was worth the stay—waking up each morning to such beautiful scenery was unforgettable. The room itself was extremely spacious, with a beautiful balcony view and comfortable bed. The property also has a great location, with several restaurants nearby, and the complimentary beach shuttle was a convenient bonus.

My main concern was that the room doors weren't fully sealed from the outdoors. There were noticeable gaps around both the glass balcony sliding doors and at the bottom of the main entrance door, which allowed insects to enter the room. Because of this, it was impossible to fully turn the lights on at night without attracting bugs inside (they came in regardless). While this may be expected to some degree in a tropical destination during rainy season, sealing around the doors could have significantly helped.

That said, the staff was friendly throughout our stay, and the property’s views and pool were definite highlights.

Where do I begin? Let’s start with, DO NOT STAY HERE. Room 63 was completely uninhabitable due to a severe, active pest infestation. As a direct result of this health and safety hazard, four adults were forced to crowd into a single room (room 62) for the entire 3 night stay.

Hotel management refused to issue a refund Upon arrival, we simply dropped off our suitcases and left the property for the day. We never used or slept in the room, and never opened the balcony doors. When we returned in the evening, the room was heavily infested with bugs. We tried calling front desk immediately that same night, no one answered. We even walked over to the front desk at night, no one was present. NO STAFF ON SITE at night is an immediate safety concern.
Hotel staff acknowledged the issue and offered to "deep clean" the room. We agreed and waited. However, when we went back to inspect the room after this supposed “cleaning” bugs were still crawling everywhere. This proves a deep-seated, active infestation that the hotel can’t just “deep clean”.

Front desk staff falsely claimed that we left the balcony doors open. This is completely untrue. The infestation was present immediately upon our return, and the failure of their own deep-cleaning process proves the issue was structural, not environmental or caused by us.

Hotel staff was rude, condescending and totally unprofessional: Hector and Manfried Arias.
AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS.

La Mariposa was a wonderful experience from my wife and I. The highest point looking out at the Pacific Ocean in Manuel Antonio. Stunning Views and vast wildlife. The view from the rooms was exceptional. Friendly and welcoming staff. The property has a swim up pool bar on the top floor that outlooks the ocean and an infinity pool on the lower floor. We loved every minute we spent and wish we had booked for more. I will be back to La mariposa every time I visit Manuel Antonio. Also the free breakfast was great and the restaurant dinner was to die for.

The view we had in our room was mind boggling. We opened the curtains and just lost our minds. We didn’t want to leave the room. The breakfast made us feel like a king and queen. The staff were phenomenal.

My wife thought the shower could be better because it didn’t get too hot. I thought it was appropriate for the climate.

Getting around the town via foot or car was easy peasy. People are friendly and helpful. It felt like an easy going town.

Make sure to have small bills in USD and Cronies for tips for drivers, luggage folks, etc. I failed there and wish I hadn’t.

My only complaint was our room happened to be next to a machine that beeped 24/7. I travel enough I know how to deal with noise and lights so I can sleep, but given how much detail and beauty is in this hotel, I thought that was an oversight. The view though - I can’t go below 5 stars if I tried.

This hotel is amazing! Courteous and helpful staff greet you, including a resident cat. Breakfast is good with an outstanding view.
Make sure to watch the sunset or the monkeys by the bar.
Pool is a perfect place to cool off and relax.
Restaurant serves fresh seafood and other offerings.
The location is off the main road a bit so it is quiet yet accessible.

La Mariposa is amazing! It is a beautiful! The food is wonderful. The pools are refreshing. There is a sloth and cat that live in the lobby. We saw lots of monkeys on the property. The staff was very helpful. We did the kayak tour of the Mangroves set up by the hotel for us. It was amazing and worth the education and fun! We highly recommend staying here!

La Mariposa was the best place I have ever stayed in Costa Rica. Not only is it a beautiful place, but it is like being in the middle of nature with all of its surprises. Being close to Manuel Antonio Park was a plus, but we got to see all of the wildlife at our hotel. You name it we saw it....Whitefaced, squirrel, howler, and spider monkeys. Slothes, macaws, butterflies galore.....
Everything is close by also. While the hotel was amazing, we took advantage of going to local restaurants, zip lining, ATV tour to the falls, mangrove tour with jesus lizards, more monkeys, baby crocs, bats and an education about the local environment and preservation.
Half day fishing trip to catch mahi-mahi, mackerel, and sail fish was the great. And we brought the fish back to the hotel where the chef cooked the fish three different ways and all were delicious.
We will definitely return!

We booked 4 nights at La Mariposa Hotel, but after staying only 1 night, we decided to leave because we were very disappointed with the hotel, the room condition (hair in the bathroom, no hot water and full of insects), and the overall maintenance. We tried several times to contact the hotel and explain our concerns, hoping they would at least try to help or compensate us for the 3 nights we didn’t stay, but nobody really handled our complaints properly. The staff and management were rude, dismissive, and not helpful at all. During one of the conversations, we were even told that they “know everybody in Costa Rica” and that we wouldn’t be able to find another hotel room, which made the situation feel very uncomfortable and unprofessional. Very disappointing experience overall.

Where this property is situated makes the view of the ocean even better! The staff are nice and you just can’t match it with any other place. From having animal visitors like the monkeys or seeing the birds, it really is an incredible place. The only thing I would have to call out is in the evening at night there are these beatle/spider looking bugs and the rooms for some reason have an opening that they can easily enter. I was able to block them after spraying Lysol and covering the hole with tissues. I know it’s expected to have bugs around but that small gap on the bottom of the door is what threw us off. Other than that, the ocean view room was incredible and I can’t wait to go back with my family this time around!

Absolutely the best views in Quepos! Breakfast each morning was delicious. we looked forward to it each day. Eggs made to order, with fresh fruit. The rooms were nice and clean. We had an issue with our warm water in the shower but turns out we were dumb and didn't turn the knob the right way.. duh! The pool area is open and the staff are great. Very attentive and made great drinks. The location of the hotel was perfect! Off the main road so it was quiet.. but close enough to walk to restaurants and stores. I would definitely return and stay for longer. So much to see and do in this country. Well worth the $$!

We had an excellent time since we got to the property. Everybody was extremely friendly. We had an amazing time at their facilities. The pool was awesome. Staff was very attentive. For $630 a night, this hotel is honestly a huge disappointment. You’d expect at least basic amenities, No tea bags, no bottled or filtered water in the room—I had to order room service just to get tea, which is ridiculous at this price point.

The bathroom setup was equally underwhelming. Instead of proper toiletries, they only provide an all-in-one bottle—no separate shampoo, conditioner, or body wash. It feels like you’re getting cheap 2 star motel amenities while paying Four Seasons prices.

The service didn’t help either. The front desk staff was rude, and one older gentleman was unnecessarily sarcastic when I asked about the room view. When I confirmed it, he responded that “of course you won’t see the view, it’s dark outside ,and rolled his eyes on me as if that wasn’t obvious. Completely unprofessional.

Even the pool system felt cheap—you have to exchange towels for pool cards like it’s a budget hotel. The pool itself was crowded, though I’ll admit it was nice, and the jacuzzi was decent as well. The view was amazing.

Overall, not worth the money at all. Way overpriced for what you actually get. You are only paying for the view.

Check before you go to make sure you do not get Room 5. The room booked is a "Corner Sunset Ocean View Room" and the rate was $498.60 a night prior to fees, for three days those were $220.98 for taxes and fees and $204.00 for an "extra guest" to have 3 people. The room is not on the side facing the sunset and another balcony adjacent to the room protrudes making the sunset visible in only one small area of the balcony at this time of year, at some other times of year it would not be visible. People standing on the other balcony also block the sunset. The balcony is also directly above the outdoor dining area and diners can see the balcony and into the room. The room also has no furniture other than the beds, not a single chair or loveseat. We also had to request a third chair for the balcony despite paying $204 for an "extra guest."

We had a beautiful time at the La Mariposa! The hotel is beautiful with orchids by the pool side and an occasional visit from the monkeys. The outdoor dining was fantastic and the drinks and food were incredible as well. It is nice to be so close to dining and shops and be able to walk.

Great location and they provide a shuttle to Espadilla (public) beach and Manuel Antonio National Park. Beachside bar cocktails are expensive, but they take making cocktails seriously. Staff are helpful. Only unclassy move is that at the breakfast buffet which is included in your stay, they bring you a check to sign for $0 hoping that you will add a tip, which is silly since the only table service provided is pouring you water. Based off of this we decided not to eat any meals at the restaurant, but there are lots of good options within a 10 minute walk from the hotel. We had an ocean garden room which was spacious with a beautiful view and balcony. The property is gorgeous and you cannot beat the location.

We have an ocean view from our room which it was in last floor. The room was not as incredible as the price we paid for it...the room was basically furnished and no decoration or somethings to make you cozy. Bathroom doesn't have a ventilation but a very small windows so you get a lot vapors during a shower. Not great at all. Pretty disappointed. You pay for the view.

The was absolutely beautiful and that is why you stay at La Mariposa. Breakfast was excellent. The room we had was an ocean view and while it is very, very big, the bathroom is similar to a prison cell. It’s black painted cinderblock with very low light. The only showerhead they have is a rain head so if you didn’t wanna wash your hair, you have to because there’s no way to keep it dry. The sink was out in the main area when you showered water pulled into your room the toilet and bidet were quite low and if you were tall at all, your knees are hitting the wall. The Desk staff was Fair at best The parking staff were hit or miss. We had one very, very wonderful guy who took care of us. We made a dinner reservation days in advance actually weeks in advance and when we went for our dinner, we were asked to wait in the bar area, which we did however, the manager or whoever was managing forgot about us. It was a birthday celebration for both my husband and I we had neither flowers on the table nor a light on the table, the dinner was excellent and was a bit overpriced compared to area restaurants. we stayed at the Shana in the past and that was by far better service. The room was much better appointed and much more comfortable. We were given three towels, a day, two bath towels, one hand towel and a floor towel so we ended up using our pool towel on the floor because water was coming out of the shower and was quite dangerous to walk on. There’s no closet so all of your stuff is out

Staff was kind, as almost all the Costa Rican people are. Hotel has stunning view and provides daily shuttle to beach. However, it's been 5 days since we left the hotel and the hotel administration has not yet returned our deposit. Not sure why they even held a deposit as no other hotels we've stayed at have done this. They've held 100,000 colones and we've talked to front desk staff, emailed them everyday since we left and still we haven't received our deposit back. It would be beneficial for more guests to ask them not to withhold our funds. There is really no reason why they would.

We ended our two-week road trip through Costa Rica in Manuel Antonio, and choosing to stay at La Mariposa Hotel was absolutely the right decision. Amazing hotel, through and through.

The location is fantastic — close to several great restaurants, so we didn’t even need to drive to find good food. At the same time, being located in Quepos gave us easy access to beautiful beaches where we enjoyed different views, stunning sunsets, soft sand, and the relaxing sound of the waves.

It was the perfect place to unwind after two weeks of exploring. The atmosphere, the scenery, and the convenience made our final days in Costa Rica truly special.

We highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Manuel Antonio. It’s the ideal combination of great location, beautiful surroundings, and a relaxing coastal vibe.

Wonderful views overlooking Manuel Antonio anf the Pacific Ocean. Nice large pool and restaurant that never seemed too crowded despite the high season. Beautiful grounds. The location is near multiple restaurants within an easy walk. There are a couple ofbeaches that one csn walk to but that’s for the adventurers who don’t mind the heat and no sidewalks. There is a free shuttle to a more established beach in town.

Our king suite was overlooking the ocean and Manuel Antonio national park!! The entire wall was a window! It was a million dollar view. I said I could have just sat on the balcony or in the bed looking out and enjoyed my experience!

The included bfast is amazing and the grounds are like being in the national park. We saw a baby sloth up close right by the bar and had monkeys on our balcony. Very friendly and helpful staff and clean and gorgeous hotel. Very close to wonderful food options. We drove an hour south to a beach with bigger waves, but this was still a perfect place to stay and jump off from. The front desk helped us schedule parasailing. Easy to park. Real gem.

La Mariposa was a highlight of our trip. The property is beautiful, and the view is absolutely incredible. Waking up to floor to ceiling windows and an ocean and national park view never got old. Our room was clean and comfortable, and the infinity pool overlooking the ocean was a favorite spot. We even saw monkeys on the property.

Breakfast each morning was wonderful, and the staff were so lovely and accommodating throughout our stay. The property’s location is ideal, within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The beach is about a 25 minute downhill walk and there’s also a property shuttle to the beach if you don’t feel like walking. We are absolute looking forward to staying here again.

The location and views make it worth it! I was disappointed that the room was so sparsely appointed. There was no where to sit other than on the bed even though the room was huge. I was also shocked that the bathroom was stocked with the bare minimum. One hand towel and two bath towels.

We made a VIP reservation for the sunset dinner which required buying a bottle of wine. We were happy to do so but patrons than were not required to make the same investment continuously walked behind our table to take pictures while our food was being served. It would have been nice for the staff to discourage this rude behavior.

Again, the views make up for a lot but a few elevated touches would improve the guest experience.

The property is beautiful, with lush landscaping and an infinity pool that’s perfect for relaxing while taking in the stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. We saw white-faced capuchin monkeys, a large group of squirrel monkeys passing through the property, and even a three-toed sloth on site. The rooms are basic but clean, and the food is delicious. Don’t expect luxury rooms; this is a place you come for the incredible location, unforgettable views, and great food.

The view from La Mariposa is spectacular. When you stay here you can expect friendly and helpful staff, fabulous food (breakfast is included with your stay), and the occasional wildlife sighting. We have stayed in the area several times before, further down the road by Playa Biesanz, and remembered passing La Mariposa on our way to town, so this trip decided to give it a try. It’s conveniently located near shops and restaurants but is still quiet enough to have plenty of wildlife on the property. We saw not one but TWO sloths on the property, and both Capuchin and Squirrel Monkeys, not to mention the adorable Agouti that played near our patio. Then there are the birds…. So many!

The room was a little weird with the bathroom sink quite a distance away in the living room, but this gave room for a bidet in the bathroom and for that I say THANK YOU! Also we almost died slipping on the bathroom floor but they provided a second towel and that issue was resolved. The bed, and the red lights by the bed were really nice.

We had a lot of privacy off our patio so we slept with the curtains open and enjoyed the 5AM wake up calls of the Macaws and spent a lot of time enjoying the view. Our room was down a flight of stairs, and we had a few tent making bats surprise us at night. This is not a complaint….we loved it!

The pools are all amazing with incredible sunset views and comfy chairs. We enjoyed the drinks the staff made for us and watched a sunset from the swim up bar one night.

We had dinner twice at the hotel. Both times the food and the service were premium. The octopus appetizer is excellent! During dinner we had a 2-Toed Sloth make its way by even.

Rooms are spacious with amazing views, the location and nature all round is breathtaking - we saw sloths, capuchins, macaws and Titi monkeys right from our balcony and at the hotel itself! The sunsets at the pool were out of a picture postcard. Service is prompt and courteous throughout. We wish we could stay longer - we hope to return soon.

It was ridiculous that hotel is so stingy on towels. You cannot get more then one towel per person and if you ask for second one, they told me that hotel administration is absolutely strict and refuses to give you extra even one more towel. That hotel isn’t near cheap, but this kinda service is absolutely terrible.

It’s a very well located hotel, amazing views from the room. Infinity pool is beautiful. We had a corner room and would be nice to have a couch and comfortable chairs in the room. We would definitely return to La Mariposa .

Room view cannot be beat! Overall the room is lacking, no robes or slippers. Minimal towels (2 bath, 1 hand). Extremely old mini fridge. Mediocre bath items (2 in 1 combo shampoo/conditioner if not great quality). Pool towels are literally the exact same as the bath towels, small, white and no extras as you get 1 towel per towel card. Pool was cold, spa was basically a kiddie pool, but at least was lukewarm. Breakfast buffet options were decent. Bartenders were great! Especially dealing with the monkeys! Dinner food very good! You are coming here for the views, make sure you book a room that includes an ocean view!

La Marioposa is in a beautiful location. The building and rooms are situated for unbelievable views of the ocean and forest. There is a lot of wildlife on the property that you can see from your balcony monkeys, birds, sloths. They even have a adorable resident baby sloth. The staff are exceptional and work extremely hard to make sure you enjoy your vacation. We were fortunate to have Alan, Oscar and David at the front desk and they bent over backwards to support any requests we had or provide good background on tours etc. The complimentary breakfast is really good. It is buffet style with a lot of options. The Papillion Restaurant for dinner and pool bar also serve really good food and drinks. The wait staff are extremely gracious. A magical location and definitely a place I would love to come back to. Thank you Mariposa.

Ocean view from your room, delicious breakfast with a stunning scenery in the morning and unforgettable sunset during your dinner, right at your hotel. Staff is very kind and helpful. Pool is awesome, very relaxing and romantic! Lots of little shops and eatery spots right next to the hotel. National park is very close. The whole experience is a must!!!!

Rooms are very large and very clean. Beds are very firm. Nice balcony!
The food at the restaurant was excellent. The staff were very nice and accommodating. Unfortunately the young man who took us to our room, was probably new and overloaded the elevator and broke it. The other staff rescued us quickly. There are iron spiral staircases, which we used the remainder of stay, being very careful because it was raining. Beautiful property with beautiful views. Close to Manuel Antonio national Park.

Clean room, great staff, close to Manuel Antonio and the beach. I actually was able to walk to the beach. The view from my room’s balcony was fantastic and the view from the dining area was spectacular! My room and bathroom felt a little outdated and I didn’t have hot water, only cold. The bed was very comfortable. Overall a great place and the positives outweigh the negatives.
