Ran by lovely and friendly hosts, Susan and Gary, the property is tastefully decorated and situated in an iconic surrounding. We enjoyed the focus on sustainability and ethical sourcing which was apparent throughout our stay. The breakfast was delicious and it felt very special to stay there considering that this place was built to facilitate the installation of the railway track and later on during the operation process. We also appreciated the seamless communication process upfront. We hope to come back soon.

Very good but not exceptional

This is a lovely property with friendly and attentive hosts. A great stay which was let down by a lot of dust in the bedroom and black body hair in the shower, otherwise we would have scored a 10

A welcoming and most amazing B&B

Garry and Susan are amazing hosts and the location of the Balsporran is simply beautiful and unique. We arrived by bike and their was a dedicated shed for them to be securely stored. Tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival made us feel really welcome. Despite being a B&B Garry and Susan also offer a simple hearty menu in the evening which is really convenient if you don't have a car to get to the next villages. Also great to have a lounge with plenty of reading matter for the evening. And the rooms, of course, cosy, clean and comfortable. A good chat with the hosts over the home-made and generous breakfast made it all the more a memorable stay.

Fiona and Geoff are friendly, helpful and just great to chat to. I felt welcome straight away and loved sitting in the guest lounge meeting other guests. The rooms were overstocked for tea & coffee choices and the bed was super comfortable. Don’t be put off by its location, it’s only a short drive to Dalwhinnie and the trains don’t run at night. Another bonus is fantastic breakfast, you won’t leave hungry. I can’t wait to come back and stay again.

We wish we had ben able to stay longer at Balsporran B and B. Geoff and Fiona are wonderful hosts. Our stay started with a welcoming pot of tea in the cozy study . We elected to have dinner there. The venison sausage was delicious! The rooms are very comfortable . Breakfast was one of the best we have every had a B and B. Adding to the homey feel is their dog Oakley. Would highly recommend a stay at Balsporran B and B.

Your own mountain view

I enjoyed my stay at Balsporran Cottage. Fiona and Geoff are warm and welcoming, and full of stories about the area and places to visit. There was a fire awaiting me each evening, and my room was warm, clean and large with a view onto Munros. Balsporran Cottage is some distance from Dalwhinnie, the nearest village for food, so you need to factor in driving out to have dinner. There are wonderful things to do in easy distance of the cottage, lots of waterfalls, walks, highland attractions, or weather permitting, you could stay put and tackle one or all three of the Munros surrounding the cottage. Fiona cooks up a mean porridge. I had it each morning. The cottage is just off the A9 but the house is well-insulated and you do not hear the road at all.

Best place in a Scotland

This place was fantastic in every way, down to the last detail. Cosy, homey, atmosphere and delicious food. Warm and friendly hosts. The rooms were filled with yummy snacks and beverages, and the beds had a rustic cabin feel about them. Handmade wooden furniture by the owner, and the bread was warm from the oven. Overnight stop on our trip to Scotland

Great room, small but did the job perfectly. We were a bit late arriving, but this was not a problem. Excellent breakfast, a perfectly run b&b. Don't worry about the train line running along side. Last train was about 10:30pm and the first was at about 06:30. To be honest they were so quick it hardly noticed. My wife is a very light sleeper and yet she had an excellent nights sleep. Me, I'd sleep through an earthquake. Also, there is no noise from the A9 what so ever.
My advice is stay here as soon as you can as the owners are planning to sell up and retire, which will be a great shame and will be a great loss to the b&b world. New owners may not keep it as a b&b, I would, it's a lovely b&b in a beautifull setting.
No fault at all.

Great little stop + walk

Excellent stoppover - room a little small, comfy beds and pillows, excellent breakfast menu choices and cooking. Evening meal and packed lunch options available - good range to choose from although we didn't take advantage of these. Friendly, accommodating proprietors. Although next to the railway, trains are infrequent and surprisingly unobtrusive as they pass. Also unaware of close proximity of A9 inside the building. Very pleasant riverside seating where a breeze is welcome to keep midges at bay or you could light one of the little stoves if feeling that way inclined.

Wonderful refuge in a storm

Ann & Phil were the perfect hosts. We arrived frozen & exhausted after crossing the Dromochter Pass on our bikes in a snow & hailstorm! They hung up our wet gear and carried our bags in for us! The room cosy with a stunning mountain view & everything you might need, including towelling dressing gowns! The food was all homemade. Being vegetarians we were delighted to see they had veg Haggis on the menu. It was delicious as was the rice pudding, just like grandma made! Definitely recommend a stop here....
