There is no hot water when we arrived. Waited for the whole day, still no progress. The staff is polite but not very helpful in providing alternative solutions. So we checked out early. Expedia contacted the hotel for refund and no one is answering the email or the phone call. So yeah, I got ghosted.

Our suite was gorgeous and spacious. We had 5 adults and didn't feel crowded at all. We enjoyed the dining table which allowed us to play games. The view out the windows and from the balcony were beautiful. The staff was very friendly.

Shanty Creek was a great place to stay. The room was spacious, clean, and private. The restaurant on site had fun specials after 5 pm and there was a shuttle that took you to the bar in town. Pool area seemed well kept, and so did the grounds in general. I'd totally stay here again.

Get what you pay for...I guess...

Upon arrival, and AFTER check-in, we were informed that that the ski facilities and onsite restaurant would be closed during our stay. Despite efforts by Hotels.com to assist, we were unable to receive any refund...even after only staying one of the two nights.

Long story short, when booking with this resort, make sure that amenities (such as dining) and that facilities (such as skiing) will be available.

NO COFFEE + FP NO WORKIE

I had heard after booking that it was dated. The good news is that our room was lovely and fresh with a beautiful view. The bad news is that I’m a coffee fiend. When traveling, I take my own Keurig pods bc there’s never enough & sometimes you get all decaf. If not enough or not Keurig, there’s always coffee in the lobby - at every hotel I’ve ever stayed. No Keurig, Folgers instant & one had to go to another building to get coffee. Oh.hell.no
Booked this room bc of fireplace. Arrived early to enjoy that. FP would not work. Waited 3 hours for maintenance man to arrive & turn on timer switch behind TV on wall. All units the same, but front desk was not aware.
Won’t be back.☕️🔥

Outdoor hot tubs down the whole week. Front desk staff not knowledgeable. Took them an hour to bring up more coffee packs to the room. Roads and sidewalks never plowed except the one day that had 6 inches of snow. Same price to ski for 7 hours vs 12 hours. On Wednesday night ski (which is discounted) most of the blue trails and lifts were closed.

Very nice place! Kids had a good time! They have an on-site restaurant. The server is a one woman show and did an amazing job with our drinks and food. She was awesome! Shuttle driver was very informative and hilarious! Just all around great experience!

We stayed at the Schuss village which was beautiful, and our room was spacious and perfect for our family. They even provided a roll away bed. They gave another location on site that’s called the Lakeside, and that’s the one I wish we had reserved. The rooms had a view of the lake, and on-site restaurant with servers. The Schuss location had a restaurant but no servers. Everything was order and go. No free breakfast. But a beautiful property!

Nice resort. The rooms were very nice, clean and spacious. The bathrooms are so nice and roomy. Pool was okay, wasn’t “resort style.” Hot tubs need an update, one was under construction. Overall it was a nice hotel and we def stay here again!

We loved the scenery and atmosphere of the hotel but our room smelled like cigarette smoke and weed and it was a non smoking room. The carpet had stains everywhere . The front desk man was very cold and not welcoming. The restaurant was disgusting. We were seated away from the entire restaurant, basically forgotten about our steaks were not cooked to order and our server never even came back to check on us. I would stay again but would bring food and ask for a different room if it smelled like it did.

Not the best night sleep

A/C was shut off for season. After a string of warm days and what felt like a room that had been buttoned up during that time, it was easily 80 plus degrees in our room and it did not cool down until the following morning. Very uncomfortable sleeping. On top of that, people were partying all night, well past quiet hours. When I went to front desk to ask for some assistance with asking fellow guests to possibly keep down noise, they were annoyed that they had to call security but finally did. Quiet hours are the hotels policy, not mine. When security arrived, they were afraid to knock on door of individuals being allowed, so, I did. Security said that if I don’t not go back to my room they would call police on me which I responded ‘please do, maybe they will do something about asking individuals to keep noise down’. I wasn’t looking to ruin anyone’s fun, just be respectful to other guests, that’s all. I never raised my voice or threatened anyone. Hotel staff became frustrated with me however, more so than the actual individuals breaking their policy. Nevertheless, noise finally subsided and was able to get to sleep after midnight.

I would not recommend based solely off of my experience with staff and the inability to properly heat/cool room. I was looking forward to stay and never, ever write reviews but I felt like a fair warning to others about this accommodation would be necessary. Find someone else to stay if customer service matters to you.

We stayed one night in Cedar River Village, one-bedroom suite. The room was very nice, spacious, and cozy. It has 2 queen beds in the bedroom and a full size pull out in the living room. Nice large windows and balcony. The bathroom is large with a jacuzzi type tub, separate shower, and double sinks. The kitchen has a sink, mini-fridge, and microwave. NO STOVE. It was the perfect size room for 5 people, one night. We were very happy with the room itself. The River Bistro is conveniently located within Cedar River so for a quick meal, it works. The food is average, prices decent. It has a nice patio area for outdoor dining and a nice tavern game area with 2 pool tables, corn hole, etc. for families. The service at the River Bistro is by far the worst! The servers walk around looking very gloomy and unhappy to be there. Our server seemed very timid and unsure of herself. When our order finally arrived we were missing 2 meals. It took another 10+ min to get those meals. Went in for a "Quick" cup of coffee on SUNDAY morning. After waiting at the bar for over 10 min to order the coffee, she went to pour it, there was only enough to fill half a cup. She said she would have to brew more. Being as I'd already spent at least 15 min and not to mention that the coffee was over $3.20 for a little cup of black coffee, I decided to decline and go find some on the road. I had read the Yelp reviews for this restaurant and decided to give it a chance regardless. Usually, when there are consistent bad reviews for a place, management steps up their game and fixes things. This is not the case at River Bistro. The bad reviews are all very accurate. I would have loved to give 4 or 5 stars on this property, but River Bistro keeps me from that.

My husband and I took an entire day to drive around the Traverse Bay Area and stayed at Shanty Creek for the night. Loved the shuttle service to Shorts! It was convenient but the driver was so fun. An older gentleman and he was a stitch! Our room was beautiful, spotless, and comfortable.

Everything was perfect except the Bistro restaurant not making it known whether breakfast was complimentary or if you had to pay for it. There were absolutely NO SIGNS stating that it was or was not complimentary. You would think that paying $350 a night that it would be but then AFTER we eat then she brings us a bill? I just feel that there needs to be a sign letting future customers aware.

A Fantastic Place To Stay!!!

We stayed here over the Fourth Of July weekend. Everything here was wonderful from the moment we pulled into the property!!! With the beautiful lush grounds, the very nice looking hotel, the warm, competent, friendly staff and a room that was like a very appointed apartment...how could you go wrong here. Anyone that has something bad to say about this place most likely is a difficult person that has some crazy expectations not just from the hotel, grounds and staff but, life in general!! If this is you...do us all a favor and go somewhere else because, this is a GREAT place that has nothing short of a really nice experience to share with all!!!
Also, I would have shared pictures but, in reviewing them they looked just like the ones that are online.

Great Hotel with Lovely Surroundings

I was looking for a nice hotel within a reasonable distance of Traverse City and Shanty Creek was a good fit. It was more of a condo than a hotel room (though the rooms do not have a cooktop, just a microwave) which was what I was specifically looking for. A cooktop would have been a plus, but I made do with the microwave. I did have to go get plates and utensils from their restaurant (normally a condo has these things in the room) but they were accommodating and meals worked out fine. The room was very nice and a reasonable value (considering that it was a busy, sold out weekend in Traverse City and rooms that were available there were twice as expensive). I am not sure that I would pay as much per night the next time, but it was very nice considering the very full bookings closer to TC. I don't play golf, but it looks like it would be a fantastic place for a golf vacation. The people at the front desk were absolutely fantastic. I would easily rate this as a 4.5 or above place to stay.

The Spa bath in room didn't work. The tub was filling up with tepid water. They couldn't change out room nor were they willing to give us a refund of some kind. They also charged us twice for the hold they put on your card as you check in. Not willing to cooperate any way to rectify this.

Quiet and Clean

Cedar Village is tucked away in the woods, but still very accessible. I heard from a local that this is the newer of the three resorts. We were very happy with the room. It was larger than most and had a terrific balcony. It was equipped with an iron, a blow dryer, and a little refrigerator. It was quiet for a weekend, but the first weekend of May should be a lull between ski season and the top of summer.
Since it doesn't give me enough to room below to say what wasn't right, I'll do that here. The A/C ran so loud on the roof that it made it hard to fall asleep. Pick the first floor, if you can.

Shanty Creek charges some of the highest room rates I came across in my search for a room in Traverse City. Not enough coffee for two people provided with the coffee maker, no vending machines on the floor where our room was. Extremely pricey room rates considering the place was deserted in August on a weekend when you'd think they'd be packed with golfers. Nice room overall but I have to rate it down due to the unjustified high price I was charged.

The rooms are nice. We stayed with children so the two room suite was great. We visited in the summer and there wasn't much going on at this hotel after the sun went down. There are activities at the Summit hotel and it is a short ride over there.

When traveling with the kids, we like to save money by stocking the fridge and pantry with food and beverages. This resort is far from any grocery stores. By the time we realized this, it too late to turn around. As long as you know this on the front end, it shouldn't be a problem as you can plan accordingly.

It was a nice place and we will stay there again.

The resort was great, however I booked on Hotels.com as a suggested for nearby hotels to Traverse City --- unfortunately, it's a bit far for a 1 night stay to enjoy Traverse City if staying at Cedar River. Facilities were great, location not close to local attractions I was interested in.
