It was not brought to our attention that traveling by a rentable golf cart is the preferred mode of transportation around the resort

Also, we had a problem with ants the last day

We booked Spa activities and was not told that it was not really a good idea to go on foot that golf cart or vehicle instead of a 1 mile hike straight up the mountain

We enjoyed the friendly environment, the scavenger hunt, and hikes!
The AC did not work in room but we put available fan by window and it cooled down quickly.
We ate meals at the lodge, I do recommend the delicious pork chop, meatloaf, biscuits with gravy.. We also enjoyed trying out more unique dishes such as frog legs and dandelion salad!
We primarily came for a massage at the spa and that did not disappoint!!
Would definitely come back for future for a low key, quiet, quaint getaway!

Fantastic place- it’s just beautiful. Very clean, super comfy beds and great staff. We happened to be there during the recent snow storm. Staff was amazing! They went above and beyond to scrape our car the next morning. Would love to visit again in summer for all of their activities.

Have stayed here before in cabins, and it was great! Stayed in the lodge this time and was disappointed. Rooms are very small and NO TV! Might not be as important to others. Bathroom was clean and small but toilet so close to the wall. Bar and waitstaff were less than stellar in service and attitude. Expected more overall.

We came to Mountain Lake Lodge to celebrate a 60th birthday with our daughters, traveling from Florida and Maryland. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet our expectations.

The resort is very limited. There is only one main restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The café offers very little—just a few muffins, some coffee, and chips. The Tavern bar also has restricted hours, and while the drinks were okay, they were definitely overpriced.

We also had an issue at the Tavern. I ordered what I believed to be potato chips, but they arrived as waffle-style fries, which I did not want. Even after explaining the misunderstanding, we were still charged for it. Where is the courtesy?

For the 60th birthday dinner, we ate at The Harvest Restaurant. The meal was extremely disappointing: $65 for one very small steak, a scoop of mashed potatoes, and a few uneven pieces of asparagus. We were given only a $10 discount, which did not feel like a fair adjustment for the quality and value.

Customer service was inconsistent. The front desk gentleman who checked us in was great and very welcoming. However, a front desk lady we dealt with later was rude and not helpful. The café employee was pleasant, but the restaurant manager did not seem willing to address our dining concerns in a meaningful way.

Another bar near Salt Pond has limited hours as well. Because of the resort limitations, we ended up spending a lot of time off property in Blacksburg (about 20 minutes away), wh

It is a very nice hotel. Many people may not know that mountain Lake no longer has water. Our room was good size, updated and nicely two beds. But we had to request a refrigerator. And there was no TV in the room. The bar is nice but small. It has the only TV in the hotel. And World Series was on

The staff was as amazing as the lodge and grounds. Great weekend get away to watch Louisville Football at Virginia Tech. They even shuttled us to and from the game. The Tavern Lodge Bar was excellent as was Harvest the restaurant.

Too many steps for older people. Not for folks with walking disabilities. Everything was fine except just too many steps. This should be in the write-up so anyone who is somewhat handicapped would know in advance. This is a place for younger people, not older ones. We are in our eighties. Very nice resort overall.

The check in staff were kind and helpful. The dining staff was not. We checked with the receptionist about the wait time. We were told since we didn’t have reservations the wait time would be about 10 minutes. 1 hour later we were still waiting and no updates or acknowledgement. With the time getting late. We left the property and went to Pembroke, Va to get dinner. The next morning we were stupid enough to try again. Only to wait 15 minutes for the receptionist to come to the desk. We just gave up and checked out of this time warp.

Had to ask for condiments for meal ( cream, sugar, salt & pepper’) Super on Wednesday was poorly seasoned , Thursday morning menu items not available, Friday morning pancake would not
Melt butter. The wait from time our order was placed until it was delivered to the table on Friday was 1 hour!!!

We had a fabulous stay here. The lodge is gorgeous and the rooms are comfortable. The food in Harvest was absolutely delicious. Every staff member we encountered went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The manager, Heidi was the sweetest and Joanna and Lyndsey were awesome as well. Johnny was so nice and he kept the fireplace going so it was a great, cozy spot to sit and talk. This place is a must for Dirty Dancing fans and we will be returning sometime!

A great place to visit to get out in nature. Really enjoy hiking all of the trails, although some of them are overgrown and not clearly marked (but it adds to the vibe and the maps on AllTrails are spot on).

Rooms in the main lodge are spacious albeit a little old. But clean and comfy.

Overall a great place for a weekend getaway with the kids.

This place is very special, whether you're a fan of Dirty Dancing or not. Its location is just beautiful, so peaceful and totally immersed in its surroundings. There are so many lovely trails where the only sound is birdsong. No planes overhead, trains or traffic. That's a rare thing in the US!!
The Dirty Dancing info and scenes are realy well done, we loved it all!

The mountain to get up to the resort is very steep and tight turns our car smoked when we reached the top!! As a resort I thought food would be free but it was horribly expensive for mediocre quality food. Paid 700 dollars to stay in a room with no ac no microwave or refrigerator or tv, what little WiFi we had was bad signal this place was overpriced and overrated I will not come back nor recommend this money pit!!!

A must for Dirty Dancing fans

If you are a fan of the movie, you have to go here! So many movie locations. We stayed in the Chestnut Lodge which was spacious and nicely decorated. We had dinner at the Tavern, which was fine but with very stressed “servers”/bartenders who dropped many f-bombs while they seemed quite overwhelmed. Service there not great so maybe the other dining option would be better. Other than that, absolutely loved it here. Total bucket list hotel.

When they say rustic, please understand this involves a hike uphill to your room from the bottom parking lot, no elevators, and no TV in the rooms. We were told AT CHECK OUT the main lodge is the largest on property but the only one with no TVs. All this would have been ok if advertised as such. I could have reserved something more accommodating. Just don’t see the appeal. Room was just ok, best thing was the decor in the bathroom was cute. The drive up there is nice, was the best part to us.

The room I initally booked was a \"multi unit\", definitely did not get the right room. Also asked for a mountain view as written on the website, didn't get that either. Although I enjoy wooded areas, it was not what I paid for per the site; you couldn't see anything past the trees. Cleanliness wise, there was a chip and empty alcohol bottle underneath my bed so I guess it wasn't cleaned that well. And while I understand a lot of this hotel is historic and they try and minimize changes, some things do need to be fixed and/or replaced. All of the windows were opened when we arrived and being on a mountain, it of course gets very cold at night. We had a hell of a time closing them as multiple were broke or the wood was warped in some way.

The highlight of the stay was Evelyn at the Kellerman's gift shop, she had so much extra knoweldge on the Dirty Dancing history tied to the hotel and was extremely friendly!

Pro: It is very secluded and quiet, the staff are nice, it is extremely peaceful up in the mountains.

Con: The main appeal seems to be nostalgia for fans of the film \"Dirty Dancing\". There is no air conditioning in the lodge, and there is really only one place to eat. The hotel room had no fridge, and everything was extremely dated. The room was tiny, just barely enough room to fit the bed, desk, and dresser. The lake is all but dried up as well, greatly reducing the views on order. I am not generally negative in reviews, but anyone wanting to stay here needs to know what to expect.

You can really do everything in just a few hours visiting this property. We booked a weekend trip and wished we only booked one night. There are no televisions or entertainment on property. Bar service is very very slow, they staff always seemed overwhelmed even when bar was not busy. This place needs more activities to keep guests entertained during spring months. Its a check off your list after a one night stay and done kind of place.

The property is older so do not expect to be a typical hotel, but then what hotel has a wood burning fireplace in the rooms and deer walking around in front of your porch. Food and drinks were good and a good atmosphere to relax and enjoy nature. Easy drive to Blacksburg for VA Tech games.

We stayed in the Chestnut Lodge on the bottom floor where the guests above us started their day at 6am and sounded like a heard of elephants running back and forth until we left our room at 9am.

the property and hotel were gorgeous! Very well maintained ..staff was courteous. My only complaints are no tv’s in the main lodge and lack of staff that leads to long wait times at the restaurants and outside bar. They have one server doing the bartending and restaurant each night The outside bar was only open a couple nights a week. I feel like once the summer season is over there is nothing really to do there except sit outside by the fire.

Gorgeous property and area! Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Unique history makes it a fun stop, and the grounds are just beautiful, with many walking paths. There are also hiking trails to take you around the mountain with many different skill levels. We loved the hike up the Bald Knob Trail, it was sooo pretty at top!
We enjoyed a quick meal and a beer at the tavern, which was a nice alternative to a full-on meal at the restaurant.

my complaint is that checkout time is 11am and so at 10am we returned to our room to shower and get ready to leave but instead found that our stuff had been thrown away and the beds stripped.
upon asking about this at the desk I was told..
\"I dont know, it says you have been checked out since yesterday\" .
she then called for some help from the back, but upon the arrival of that help.. i quickly decided to cut my losses and leave with as few words exchanged as possible!

Front desk manager was rude on 2 occasions. She tried to charge us an additional fee when checking out. She said it was for the wifi and other amenities. We told her we had already paid this fee and she argued we hadn't. A quick look at our card showed we had. She was very short and rude after that. Also it says the wifi is complimentary. All the other employees were great and a pleasure to talk to.
The grounds are pretty run down. Rotten boards on walkways. Some marked with cones. Walkways overrun with brush. Completely dead trees around parking area. A good wind could put them on a vehicle.
The breakfast buffet was the same you get complementary at any Holiday Inn but its $20 here. Also the fruit sat out all morning with no lid on it and was covered by fruitflys.
