The hotel radiated charm and was impeccably maintained, creating inviting spaces that instantly made us feel at home. The staff's remarkable friendliness and willingness to assist truly elevated our experience, as they went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Having previously stayed in July; we were thrilled to return for our second visit. However, we were sadly let down by the food quality, which fell significantly short of our expectations on both visits. Unfortunately, this prompted us to seek dinner outside the hotel after a long and tiring journey to Kruger, which was disappointing.

I was very disgusted that there were no options for cows milk or gluten intollerent, vegan or diabetic guests.
We travel a lot and all over the world and all hotels make provision. More and more people have food allergies etc. Even in Kruger park there were for instance almond milk substitute.

This is a great choice is you don't want or can't stay inside the park. The property is literally on the river that serves as the southern boundary for the park - you can watch animals from the common patio. My only complaint is that the common area doubles as a dining area for the restaurant (which is so so). If you have your own food, snacks, wine etc. - there is no place other than you room that you are allowed to consume them. Slightly less stringent policies would be a step up.

Always go for the deluxe rooms there are resident Waterbucks there and Hippos and crocodiles in the river and Elephants cross the river at night to feed in front of the rooms , the hotel sits just outside the Malelane gate an area famous for Leopards along the Crocodile river area the hotel has very good food and friendly staff

Told on arrival that there had been a mistake in booking and we were to be accomodated at a grossly inferior hotel 2km away although we had booked months ago. Eventually they found us a room but other friends were not so fortunate. It has become apparent that overbooking is a regular practice here. Beware.

Our stay was excellent. The service & food was great and the staff were very friendly.
The unit was really comfortable but could do with minor improvements, the air con was almost non functional in ours.
The main reception restrooms needed attention & better lighting.

Complained about dirty sliding door entrace curtains and air conditioner that was not working. No feedback was given and the items were not adressed.

Breakfast is great with freshly baked pastries and wide choices of items to eat

Dinner is a buffet we tried it once and never again. They served bone hard pork and little pieces of fish that did not taste great at all! You can order from a set menu but are strongly encouraged to do the buffet, 1stly by their menu pricing and by the waiters.

We've stayed here numerous times. It is nothing amazing in terms of service or condition - but it is reasonably priced and close to Kruger. Also serves a good breakfast. This time our safe was broken - we reported it and nothing was done. The batteries on the TV remote were flat (although these were replaced). We didn't get any water or a third towel for the child in our family room on the second day.
If you are looking for something a bit nicer than Kruger accommodation at about the same price - this is it. If you are looking for a luxury lodge - this is not it.

My stay at Pestana Kruger Lodge was excellent in all aspects.
The room that i had been allocated was clean and spacious.
The staff were friendly, well presented and very helpful with any requests.
The buffet breakfast and dinner is a must.
The deck overlooking the river is a new personal favorite of mine, could sit there for hours. If you have a good pair of binoculars you can spot lots of wildlife along/in the crocodile river. The location is excellent if you plan on entering the Kruger National Park via the Malelane Gate.

Treated like an idiot after CLEARLY indicating a few minutes after booking that we were not able to stay three nights but only two AND attempting to amend the booking.com reservation AS WELL AS. Phoning the Pestana Lodge directly to change the booking IN GOOD TIME, the lodge refused to acknowledge that I had changed the reservation and made me pay R14500 for a two night stay. Rip off, and was treated to a sarcastic analysis of my errant behavior by Mr Thabo Khoza at the front desk. A few years ago the family had a magical few days at the same lodge and we were all looking forward to repeating the experience. Very disappointing.

Reasonably priced option close to Kruger

If you are looking for a reasonably priced family hotel close to Kruger - then this is a good option. The location is good, the breakfast is nice, the pool is good. We enjoyed the view over the Crocodile river although part of the deck was being renovated while we were there. The rooms are functional but tired and in need of a revamp. This is not a luxury bush getaway - but a good, clean and comfortable plan B if you can't get accommodation within the Kruger Park. The wifi only works in the main reception area as the rooms are spread out over a wide area. If you do stay here - I'd suggest skipping the dinner at the hotel and rather eating over the road at Hamiltons.

I was just not happy with my room as when I booked, I had indicated that I would like a double bed. Instead, I got a room with two single beds. That was not to my liking.

The location is excellent. The restaurant is one of Kruger's best views.

The receptionist. I've specifically asked to settle everything I had to pay at the check in, because I wanted to make a quick check out in the next day. The lady told me everything was settle with Expedia. In the morning I was blocked at the gate because I had not pay a fee that was required.

The reception staff and restaurant personnel were awesome. The maintenance of the rooms is seriously lacking. The blinds don't open and the TV is not program. This is the second time I have reported this, first time was last year when we stayed there. The chairs on the stoep are very uncomfortable.

Only stay in a family room

Stay in the family rooms and never look back. This time we didn't get one and it was uncomfortable. I already know there is No wifi in the room but the room we got with a double bed had 2 singles pushed together. The air con blew directly onto the bed and into our faces which added insult to injury. Then the tv was tucked in an armoire that wasn't faced near the bed so we had to angle it and watch sideways. Usually we don't spend much time in the room but it was raining and we did this time. I was disappointed with this stay.

Worst 4 star Hotel in the world

I have read most of the negative comments before we decided to book into Pestana . Like most of you I thought the people were a bit tough on them . I wished we listened . Pestana charge 4 star prices for a defnitely below par 3 star Hotel . The deck chairs was swamped by spider webs . haven't been cleaned for months . The grass was long and you could not make out where the weed begins and the grass ends . The wall had splashes of wrong paint which tried to cover up old drill marks . The receptionist tried to stand in for the lack of a bar man . They tried their best but said there is no bar man . The deck poles in front of our room was broken and by the look at it for quite a while .

I think the place needs a new manager as the one currently their is not up to par to run such an establishment . Like I said a below par 3 star hotel with 4 star price tag . Expect exactly that .

Good room in one of the bungalows. Hot water and clean. Check-in was simple. Restaurant staff are very slow and enjoy standing around talking rather than working. All seem to have become accustomed to the automatic tips left behind by guests.

Great general manager- Rest of the staff, awful.

It's hard to narrow it down to 50 characters. We were forgotten to be picked up at the airport, then when we called, we were told we would be charged per person each way. This, all after my mom set up our ride months in advance with the hotel and a fee was never told to us. Then the staff was incredibly rude and not helpful what so ever. Half the options on the bar menu they were \"out\" of. Collin, the manager was wonderful and made up for the ride mistake by sending us on an elephant excursion. He is the only positive of the hotel. The dinners buffet was also pretty good and the food was tasty. The safaris were wonderful but those aren't associated with the hotel.

The photos on the website led me to believe there were more river facing rooms than what was the reality.

We were a couple - the receptionist checked us into a twin bed room that was cramped and no where near any of the beautiful parts of the hotel. We might as well have been in City Lodge (rooms from 300).
Spa was great.
The rooms need some maintenance re wood chipping.

Experience overall at this establishment was poor. Rooms were poorly designed and hotel is in need of refurbishment. Very Very Bad Spoilt my entire Holiday

Lack of Management. I have escalated my problem with this hotel to hotels.com I am still awaiting feedback. The general manager on duty is hiding from us as what he promised was not delivered. There we're racial comments being passed as well. I am escalating this to the South African media and we are going to name and shame this hotel. What is on the website in terms of a family room is not what is experienced at the hotel. This is very bad as my wife left the venue as well. I want a full refund for my 4 night stay.

Making a long story short.....we arrived at the hotel at 5:30 pm with two children`s (3 and 8 years old) after driving for 5 hours. They didn`t have our reservation, by mistake they booked our reservation for December not November. We had booked 2 family rooms but the hotel had all the family rooms occupied, only standard rooms available, so after a long wait and phone calls they put us in two standard rooms. Not a good experience, they are not organized, the hotel has the perfect location but its not enough.......

Place is Great, hotel is not a Pestana standard.

I was expecting a lot more from a Pestana hotel, specially in such a beautiful place, our shower was clogged, the patio was dirty, with a water hose right in front of the door, the main room door was broken, the hotel needs a manager who cares for maintenance, the current one probably doesn't pass by the rooms for a long time. The place is so magical that even with all the accommodation issues we had a nice stay.

Fabulous hotel overlooking river!

Pestana was amazing! Super beautiful room overlooking river. Elephants were grazing under my balcony on the first day and I could see hippos and crocs each day in the river. Right outside of the Malelane gate, perfect location. Would recommend!!!

What a surprice.

The view is 5 star.The food is 5 star. The service by the bar was good but when it come to the pool there was no service from the waiters I had to phone the reception to send a waiter to the pool. The family rooms need to be upgraded.The bedding is yellow and not even wight, the bed is old. I would rate the rooms 2 star. We went to town to bay bedding so that we can sleep. how can this hotel/loges be a 4 star??

A fine hotel, shabby round the edges

This hotel is fine-nothing more. The staff are quite friendly and the food on the whole is quite good. Our room really stunk of farm yard, i grew up on a farm so it was bearable but not what you want on holiday. The swimming pool is very dirty. The river gives off a very pungent smell most evenings which can be most off putting, the hotel is clean but all in all I wouldn't recommend to a friend unless nowhere else is available.

Out of this world

The hotel is situated at the edge of the Kruger Park, so the views over the river with hippos and crocs is wonderful. Wildlife apart, the hotel and grounds are beautiful. Extremely well maintained - the staff are very professional and friendly at the same time. Food was excellent and there was plenty of variety for many tastes. We really enjoyed the friendliness of everyone there. There wasn't one thing I would have changed.

Fantastic! Upon arrival you feel you enthe the Kruger wildpark as the hotel is located on a c-bend of the Crocodile River. If friendly could have an award, the staff would win! Typical old fashioned lodge, food is plain South African fare, buffet style. Nothing spectacular but good. The bar's huge patio overlooks the banks of the river where we stopped counting the Buck, Elephant, Crocs, Hippo etc.. INCREDIBLE, Rooms are comfortable, clean but dated, good nevertheless. Compare price location etc and occlude that this is as good as it gets. Game drives available however , we choose to drive ourselves. The Gate to the park is adjacent and we had two days of excitement and saw 4/5 of Big Five plus a zillion other animals. We are coming here loads from now on, thank you to all the staff and management for the super weekend!

There were quite a few unimpressed reviews so I was a bit apprehensive, but after arriving (a short 4.5 hour drive from JHB) it was just what we needed. The reception and check in process was quick and efficient. The room was spacious however it could do with some minor DIY, but everything was functional. The pool has a wonderful super tube water slide :) which was a big winner for both kids and adults. The location is convenient to access the Kruger Park and the view from the desk overlooks the Crocodile River and the Park where we saw load of animals. The catering was simple well thought out and very good. The best part was that this resort is really kind and tolerant to kids. Many Safari lodges don’t allow kids under 12, and there they were welcomed with open arms and catered for - down to an Easter egg hunt! On the whole - WE WILL BE BACK :)

Lovely setting

The lodge has nice grounds, and the main deck overlooking the river is incredible. The pool looked amazing, although it was too cold to swim when we were there. Delicious breakfast, but the restaurant service was humorously slow and passive at times (not so unusual). Our room was very comfortable, and the balcony with a table and chairs looking out on the river was wonderful. While hotels.com lists a fitness center for this hotel, they do not have one on-site -- it is in a neighboring club and its opening hours seem unpredictable.

A few shortcomings

We chose Pestana because the private game lodges were expensive and didn't allow children under 6 to go for game drives.

Location right next to Crocodile River. Quality of food was excellent. Our Elephant room (205) was a 1-bedroom house with parking in front, within walking distance of the main building/restaurant. Comfortable sofa bed for our 2yr-old son. Free wi-fi was a bonus!

Unfortunately the duvet was too small for the bed and my husband spent the first night in the cold. We asked for another blanket which was provided the next day. The shower drain was also blocked, leaving a funny smell in the bathroom. They came as soon as we complained, though, and fixed the problems.

I would probably stay at Skukuza Main Camp or in one of the game lodges inside the Park next time. It's such a huge park we were always caught late leaving the gates!

Can't beat the view

Hotel as such is average - but location is great. When we walked in, 25 Elephants in the crodicle river greeted us. It was awsome.

For the price I might have expected higher quality service/food. However, I did not go to Kruger for that and as such this is a GREAT choice for a hotel if one want's to be close to Kruger in a beautiful location.

Positiv:
Das Hotel hat eine super Lage direkt am Kruger Madeline Gate. Der Ausblick von der Hotelterrasse auf den Crocodil River ist fantastisch. Die Außenanlage ist nett und abends beleuchtet. Poolanlage ist schön (aber schmutzig). Man wohnt in kleinen Bungalows in unmittelbarer Umgebung und kleiner Terrasse. Parkplatz ist direkt am Bungalow (praktisch). Die Klimaanlage im Zimmer war gut und relativ leise. Abenddinner kostete 23,- p.P. (teuer) war soweit ok - nicht mehr und nicht weniger. Frühstück ging auch (Kaffee aus Automat war gruselig)

Negativ:
Hotel und Bungalow wirkt sehr in die Jahre gekommen und abgewohnt (vermutlich 80er). Steckdosen am Bett funktionierten nicht. Merkwürdiger Geruch im Zimmer. Nachtisch und die Lampe wackelig (Licht ging immer wieder aus). WC Deckel wackelte auch. Kein Mosikonetz oder Insektenschutz am Fenster. Bedienung beim Dinner wirkte etwas lustlos. Das Preis/Leistung Verhältnis (ÜN €205,-Dz inkl HP) stimmt überhaupt nicht. Für 1 Nacht ging es gerad so. Somit leider keine Empfehlung. Anmerkung - wir waren vorher (+€100,- mehr ) im Krüger Gate Hotel und es lagen Welten zwischen den Hotels.

O quarto estava limpo, mas antigo e encontramos uma aranha de tamanho medio na parede logo que entramos. Os funcionarios foram excepcionais em tentarem nos deixar confortável e atender as expectativas. A estrutura e vista do hotel é a melhor possível e fica a literalmente 2 minutos do portão Milalane no Kruger.

Estadia agradável e excelente comida.

Quarto espaçoso com chá, café e água incluídos.
O sofá cama para a terceira pessoa não é tão bem arrumado quanto a cama. O ponto alto é a localização e o restaurante. A comida é deliciosa com várias opções no cardápio a lá carte. Comemos filet, carneiro, avestruz, picanha, todas as carnes preparadas com esmero, todas macias e saborosas. Os vinhos também são bons e os preços são justos. Vale a pena comer lá, dependendo do horário ainda se desfruta da paisagem com vários animais entre eles hipopótamos, várias espécies de cervos, javalis, macacos e outros. Fornecem também toalhas para piscina.

Potential men levererade inte

Läget är riktigt läckert. Att inta frukost samtidigt som flodhästar och krokodiler simmar omkring nedanför terassen är häftigt. Men måhända befann sig stället i uppstartsfasen efter covid-nedstängning. Hela stället kändes öde, vår reservation hade hotellet tappat bort vilket gav en lång incheckning, maten på kvällen var ingen höjdare och städningen kan förbättras. Bäst var att bokningen av safarin fungerade så bra.

A área da piscina é infestada de formigas por todos os lados, assim como o caminho até os quartos. O frigobar fica vazio, e na propriedade nao é possível encontrar nada para comprar, como sucos, refrigerantes e quaisquer outras bebidas. Somente a agua mineral que você pode comprar no bar do hotel e carregar até o seu quarto.
