We just got home after spending our honeymoon in Marblehead. The Hotel Marblehead is a great stay for anyone looking for a clean, relaxing, and quaint get away. They worked with us via phone/email to set up after hours check-in. Our rooms were cleaned/made up everyday upon request. There is off street parking and I would highly recommend you take advantage of it. They do give breakfast/meal vouchers each day to a local business called the \"Muffin shop.\" For those traveling, we decided to rent a car to get around Marblehead and we used the commuter train(s) via swampscott and Salem to get into Boston and then used the subway system in Boston as well as walking to get around. Something to note: Marblehead does not have any gas stations so be aware of that. Overall, it was a great stay. We found a few eating places for those that are visiting the area to also check out these include: Maddies Sail Loft, Barnacle, Fresca, and Driftwood. If you also need additional supplies/accessories look into Crosby market and there is a CVS in town as well. Overall, Marblehead is a great town with friendly people. The Hotel Marblehead is a great place to stay and somewhere my wife and I plan to stay again.

At check-in the 50% deposit paid through Expedia was not recognised and we had to prove payment to avoid a double charge.
This is not a hotel. There is no full-time reception or usual hotel amenities. Neither is it a B&B, as there is no breakfast at the property. A voucher for $7 was provided for a cafe needing a 2 mile round trip; the amount just about covered a muffin and a small coffee. It feels more like managed rooms.
The room and communal areas are pleasantly decorated, clean and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom, however, needed a refurb with peeling paint and damaged vanity unit. The room lacked a mirror and there was insufficient storage for clothes - no drawer unit and only 4 coathangers. There was no in room coffee making facilities or other such amenities you may normally expect.
For the premium price charged we expected something special but this was very poor value for money.

Staff were great. Father from the Marblehead seafront than I thought and from the downtown…Rooms updated, but paint peeling, nice bathrooms, storage for women, can’t open any windows in our room, stuffy old ac units in windows . no usb plug ins. Side tables kinda low for bed. The hotel looks amazing from outside but ac units in windows detract from in and outside. Mayer we just aren’t historic property people. Breakfast had nice fresh mixed fruit cut, yogurt, croissants, store bought muffins and sugary small boxes of cereal. Coffee was pods in the earlier morning and they ran out, Sunday breakfast at 830- kinda late for most travelers- had carafe coffee in pot when breakfast served. I think it’s a charming hotel and we just aren’t those people for that

The hotel was old but well maintained. Breakfast was limited in choice but was fine. We stayed in April, on the 2nd floor and it was quite warm. There was no air conditioner in the room which would have helped to cool the room down. We opened the windows. There is no elevator on premises and if mobility is an issue you will need to book a room on the first floor. It might be a little noisy because 3 of the rooms are near where breakfast is served and where guests may gather in the evening. Only complaint was that there is no early check in available. Check in time is 4:00 PM and they are strict about this. I believe the reason for this is that they have limited staff available and they are only on premises at certain times of the day. The location is convenient if you are visiting family at The Mariner which is an independent/assisted living facility.

It was the worst check in and overall experience I have ever had. They say check in desk is only open until 6 p.m. and they say check in is at 4 p.m. I was in town for a an event that began at 6 p.m. I arrived at the \"hotel\" at 2:45 p.m. There was no cars in the parking lot, I went to the front desk, the hotel was empty. The person said, no hello, just check is not until 4 p.m. I asked can I put my stuff down in my room (I had a clothes bag and two computer bags). She said no, check is not until 4 p.m. The place was vacant, there are a number of rooms in the \"hotel\", there was no reason she couldn't let me drop my bags in my room. She was awful. Now remember, they say that desk service ends at 6 p.m., so they give you 120 minutes to get any service at all, from 4 to 6. I asked again can I leave my stuff, she said you can leave it in the middle of the front desk area. I left my clothes bag but not my valuable computers. When I returned, the clothes bag was just sitting where I left it, there was an envelope in a basket that said my name and room number that anyone could take, it was bizarre. Parking lot was still empty, so noone was there. When I got to my room, the door was wide open, not closed, I thought Norman Bates was waiting for me. The furniture was broken, the bathroom doorknob was half off..Why anyone gives this place a decent rating is a lie and beyond me.

I appreciated the service we received and loved the suite. My suggestion: pay a little bit more for more room, more amenities (microwave, coffee maker, water heater, sink), a pull out couch. It is always nice to have a separate room. And it is quiet. Location is not far from the historical district and near the sanctuary and a view of Marblehead that you would not see elsewhere.

This is my second stay here. The first time was excellent, so I was very happy to be back. The hotel is beautifully redone, and the rooms are very cute and nautical. The jet bathtub is a very nice feature in the bathroom. The problem I had this time was the heat in our room. It would not turn off despite the thermostat being turned to off. It was so hot that we had the window wide open, but this did not help. Considering that check in is a late 4pm, sleeping there is really the bulk of what I'm rating. I tried responding to the hotel's automated text message system that asked how my stay was, but I have not gotten any reply.

It was our second stay here. We appreciate the excellent staff, uniqueness of the property and convenient location. However, this visit our rooms thermostat was malfunctioning and we awoke in a sweat during the night with a room at 78 degrees. Readjusting the temperature had no effect so we resorted to opening the patio door wide at 3 am to cool off the room, turning the heat off completely and starting the air conditioner. We fell back to sleep about an hour later.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay very clean & the suite was a nice layout. I was a little taken aback by no elevator as we were on the third floor. My husband had to carry our luggage up the two flights of stairs. Also, we had to use the back entrance as the front wasn’t available which wasn’t terrible but when taking Ubers it would be nice to go right out the front doors especially at night.

Breakfast healthy options of three kinds of granola, two kinds of yogurt, variety fruit cup and a variety of breads and muffins… coffee tea or water. Front desk staff was unprofessional and not welcoming upon arrival, which we found weird at a bed and breakfast. It's a very old place, as are a lot of the options in the area, so we weren't surprised to find some quirks. However, there was no dead bolt on our door which had a gap in the top of about 1/2inch. Disconcerting to say the least! Other than that, the room was spacious, the bed was comfy and there amenities were well appreciated! The breakfast in the morning was wonderful with fresh cut fruit, yogurt and granola to balance out the heavy fare in Salem.

Staff was decent, the hotel was supposed to do light housekeeping and no housekeeping was provided during the whole trip. I had to make my own bed every day and throw my own trash away also due to the room not having a trash can in the room. Only had a small trash can in the bathroom, the room was also poorly decorated and the fridge was on the floor and not even on a stand.

We arrived early to explore Salem but no one was at the front desk, so we quietly used the lobby restroom to freshen up. We were whispering and careful with our luggage when an employee came out, didn’t greet us, I asked about checking in and said with an attitude, “We’re not even open yet, it’s way too early,” before walking away. Another guest came out complaining and began talking about us with the employee as if we weren’t there, which made us feel unwelcome from the start.

Their check-in window is only 4–6 p.m., and no one is on-site overnight. The only reason we entered that morning was because another guest left the door unlocked, which normally requires a code. When I asked about luggage storage since we’d return after hours, I was told it would be kept behind the desk and placed in our room later, with the key left in an envelope — not secure. When we came back, our luggage was sitting in the lobby with a sticky note and our room number. Luckily, nothing was missing.

The next day, two new employees were much kinder. Later, we were told maintenance needed to fix our toilet, but afterward it worked worse, and with no staff around, we had to use the lobby restroom. The beds were comfortable, breakfast was good, and the location was close to Salem, but the poor hospitality, lack of security, and limited hours made us feel uneasy. If staff were more welcoming and procedures safer, our stay could’ve been much better.

The staff at the property on Wednesday was so rude! The bottom on my white socks were black because of the floors just in our room, if they were black; when was the last time they truly cleaned the room correctly? They say they do daily refreshing of the room, however there was no door sign and they didn’t even touch the room. The bed was comfortable however the cleanliness completely steers me away.

The house itself was charming, but our room was absolutely terrible. It appeared to be clean, but the carpet had so many stains. The furniture was cheap and plastic, the room was dingy. There was no hairdryer, breakfast was just some sliced up coffee cake. The air-conditioning unit in the window was not sealed properly and cold air was coming in all night. Not to mention road noise all night long. I wouldn’t not recommend this hotel for the price we paid. It was just horrible!

.Beautiful boutique hotel in historic Marblehead has all the makings of a noteworthy stay I really wanted to love this place but the old building is showing its age. Pealing paint above the shower, towel bars barely hanging on the wall and blinds that can’t be raised. I would give it 3.5 stars.

This property is not worth the price at 600$ a night for a king size rm. It has none of the charm you would expect at an older property...Our room was very basic with a random mixture of furnishings and a toilet that ran after flushing. Would not recommend this hotel at these rates.

The Hotel Marblehead was a spot we chose to be both close to local beaches as well as the airport. Our stay was short but we were made to feel at home. The neighborhood is beautiful and quiet. I’m just guessing but this whole area must be a sweet taste of life in coastal Massachusetts.

Let me start by saying what they did do right. The place is beautiful and very quiet. It was clean. The Views around Marblehead are stunning to drive to.
Our room had a patio that we enjoyed sitting on in the evening. Coffee was right out side our room at any time of the day. However, Check in is at 4 and the staff leaves at 6. I was getting a text at 4:15 to remind me of this. Upon arrival the staff was professional but not friendly. Our room was VERY Small compared to a normal hotel room however the tub was a soaker and very spacious. When we went to bed that night I thought the bed would break when my husband got in and expected it to hit the floor at any moment during the night so it slept horrible and had a huge dip in the center. It was definitely broken, but with staff not on property what do you do? I informed the staff the next morning and they didn't know it was broke. Cleaning staff should have caught that. The breakfast was only yogurt and muffins with glass jars of fresh fruit. So not much to get you through the day on.
I will say that upon leaving they did offer me a discount because of the bed if I ever returned. I don't imagine I will ever be in the area again but at least they offered something.

This property was beautiful. It was quiet and clean. I do believe it is more a bed and breakfast than a legitimate hotel. The staff, specifically Deb and Julie were fabulous. They were friendly, helpful, and very welcoming. They truly did everything they could to make our stay great. The few complaints I did have were due to my own misunderstanding of the property description and issues outside of the staff's control, like the couch in our room being ridiculously uncomfortable. The area is safe, quiet, and beautiful. The breakfasts were tasty and fresh, but are all cold like fresh fruit and pastries. There are no elevators, which had I noticed sooner, would have had a larger bearing on my decision to stay here. I would stay again, but not for 7 days, and definitely not on the 3rd floor again. I would recommend this place highly and only would suggest replacing the couch and putting in larger print on each room description that there is no elevator.

The house is beautiful, outside!! You would expect more elegance on the inside. We stayed at the Hampton inn last evening and our room here does not compare to that. This room is very tiny and the carpet should have been replaced years ago. Very sad looking.
