There was a lamp that didnt work, a ceiling can light improperly covered, the liggt above the dining table was bare bulb. I had to call to figure out the TV and ask about A/C. The front desk was helpful walking me through the TV, but they shouldn't have to, there should be directions in the room. I was informed there is no A/C at the hotel. No offer to bring up a fan and no ceiking fan in the room. Finally, I couldn't use the tub as when I turned on the sink, the tub gurgled and spit up brown sand water.

The rooms were spacious clean. Staff was courteous. The overall day was wonderful. Would recommend an ab absolutely would stay there again. The only thing that was wrong was they were doing maintenance with the elevator so you had to walk up the steps, especially if you’re on the third floor. It’s a lot of steps.

Was very disappointed by the general upkeep and cleanliness of the facility. Our junior suite was nicely laid out, but given them out of dust all over the room as well as the dirty Q-tips. I was a little disgusted to say the least. I also had specifically asked to have a quieter room as I was no sensitive and so they moved us away from the elevator, but put us next to the garbage can pick up location, so both mornings was woken up by the loud sounds.

Staff was helpful and pleasant. Room had no way to regulate the AC/heat so it was chilly in the room the whole time. Tv was not working and some lights didn't work. Shower was good and hot. Walls were not sound proofed very well, so you hear everything, cars, birds, people.
Having to walk outside to get tho the breakfast room was not ideal.
Otherwise the stay was ok.

THE GOOD: 4th floor view. Seagull cries at dawn (seriously—I love it). Proximity to downtown/the wharf/walkability. Fantastic bathroom with lots of counter space and deep tub (amazing). Great water pressure in the shower. Lots of room/living area/kitchen—quite spacious, and loved the deck.
THE BAD/UGLY: The “living room” area smelled strongly of puke. Not “a whiff” or “oh maybe, is that..??” Like, unmistakably, undeniably strong. So strong I had to keep the windows open all night (in January). There were ants in the kitchen nook, even in the microwave. If I was planning to stay more than 1 night, I would have asked to change rooms but by the time I got all my stuff up to the 4th floor, moving just seemed like a hassle. (And honestly, dealing with the receptionist seemed like it would be an ordeal in and of itself, customer service didn’t seem to be her strong suit.) Note to the hotel staff—room 418 needs a deep cleaning and probably a carpet steam.

So much to say. At check-in, the front desk attendant was typing on the computer, and did not make eye contact or address us for about 2 minutes, even though she was not helping others. She was not friendly at all.

Once we were helped, we were notified of the $50 pet charge, which we were not aware of at booking.

We were personally shown to our room, and we realized later that there was no room number on our door or outside wall, making it difficult to find the room later. The lock was fussy, and took a lot of finesse to unlock with the key.

Once we were in bed, we realized that our room (105) was directly adjacent to a maintenance/ laundry room, and we could hear loud voices and bumping and clanking noises that kept us awake into the late night.

The shower was incredibly difficult to navigate, and nearly impossible to keep at a comfortable setting, risking scalding.
No bath mat was provided for the floor, creating a slip and fall risk.

We will definitely not return.

Room needs major updates and cleaning. Vents have thick dust and looks like haven't clean for years. Toilet sit wobbly. Not enough plates, glasses, utensils, toilet paper, dining chairs. If you check in 4 adults in the room, should be at least 4 chairs, 4 plates, 4 pairs of utensils and enough toiletries. We are 4 adults and only provided 3 towels. Patio is big but we couldn’t hang out there because spider webs everywhere and only 2 chairs available. TV is very old. We can’t even get a local channels. WiFi never works or just too weak. Duvet cover has ripped on it. Not enough pillows and very uncomfortable. Room phone not even sure if it works because I tried to call front desk and just static noise I heard.
Breakfast is ok. Not happy about it
Great location. Short walk to Fisherman’s wharf and downtown.

Several lights were non functional. Both doors in the room lacked adequate sealing and therefore the room was extremely drafty. Tiles on the walkway in front of the room were dangerously broken and people were tripping. Parking was expensive. Door to toilet and shower was broken. Exterior doors to building would be closed and locked, and key cards would not allow access. Would have expected much better from this facility.
The lobby and housekeeping staff, however, were very polite, and helpful

The breakfast in the morning was simple but perfect for us with a small kid who primarily survives off cereal and muffins. Appreciated the onsite parking. Hotel Pacific is perfectly situated in downtown Monterey, just a short walk from Fisherman’s Wharf, great restaurants, and whale watching tours—ideal for exploring without needing a car everywhere.
We stayed in a Junior Suite, which was very spacious with nice touches like a private outdoor patio, cozy fireplace (perfect for a romantic evening), bar sink, mini fridge, and microwave—super convenient for longer stays.
The decor feels a bit dated, and there’s no air conditioning (just radiant heaters), so the room can get stuffy— we kept the windows open for breeze, which worked fine. The bed was decently comfortable, though the pillows were on the thin side.
Staff were professional and courteous throughout our stay. The free continental breakfast is simple but gets the job done—mostly cold items with a few warm options.
One heads-up: The underground garage has very tight parking spots, so it can be a bit challenging if you have a larger vehicle.
Overall, for the price (noticeably lower than many comparable spots in the area), it’s a solid choice with charm and prime location. We’d stay again for a Monterey getaway!

had reserved a room for four weeks in advance (so you had plenty of time to inform me if there were any issues). Upon checking in, I was told by the staff that the room was located on the 4th floor and that the elevator had been out of service for some time due to a mechanical issue. I asked if they could move us, but was told there was no other room available. One of the travelers had undergone a full knee replacement on both knees, and we had a lot of luggage. I asked for help, and an employee showed up to help carry two pieces upstairs, then disappeared.

The next morning, I called the office and asked to be moved because I didn’t want the person with knee replacements to have to walk up and down to the fourth floor. After a long conversation and being told the best they could do was refund the remaining nights, they finally agreed to move us to the other side of the building, where the elevator was working. I asked for help with moving the luggage, and they said they would send someone to assist me. After waiting forty minutes, no one showed up, so we carried everything over.

Other than this, there were puddles of water in the hallways that could have easily caused slips and falls, the trash bins in common areas were overflowing, and there were only two sets of towels in a room reserved for four people.

I stayed at Hotel Pacific several years ago and had a pleasant experience, which is why I came back. Unfortunately, this is not the same hotel as before.

At the time of booking, it was mentioned that the room included a fireplace. However, the room assigned to me had a fireplace that was only for display and not functional. I contacted the front desk regarding this, and a staff member informed me that the fireplace was not working. Clarifying this information at the time of booking would help avoid confusion for future guests.

Worst stay ever at this hotel. We came to spend Christmas Eve and morning with our grandchild. During check in 3 people were complaining about their room. That should have been my 1st clue. No even 1 single Christmas Decoration or light in the whole place... despicable.....we came to enjoy a peaceful holiday and get a good nightsleep. The 1st room was on the 4th floor looking out to a wall, the elevator didn't work and we had to carry our bags ourselves. We both have bad back and are in our 70's. We had to walk through puddles and
flooded everywhere on the ground level and even on the upper hallways. We got completely soaked. We went back down to switch rooms and the young woman was nice enough but gave us another 4th floor room, but at least the elevator worked. I singed all the hair off of my arm trying to light the poorly deteriorated gas logs, when it flared up onto my arm. We also could not figure out how to use the romm heater/conditioner if it even worked. The room was clean but the bed was terribly soft and we both ended up in the crevice in the middle. Couldnt get the TV to wotk at all. We couldn't sleep and got up at 6am. and got the hell outta there, and over to our daughters house. Didnt stay for breakfast.....we just wanted out. This was truly the worst night have ever spent in supposed upscale hotel. And I still can't get over the fact that the amanagemnt went to no effort to decorate for Christmas. We will never be back there.

Unacceptable experience from start to finish.

We arrived at check-in time and were made to wait over an hour past the stated check-in time. This was after driving 3 hours with a one year old baby that we needed to get into the room and change her diaper and get freshened up. When we were finally given access to our room after 5:00 PM, cleaning staff were still inside, which is completely unacceptable.

I requested a toddler bed immediately after booking. It was not in the room. Housekeeping told us they would notify the front desk to have one delivered. That never happened. After returning from dinner (we missed our original reservation because we couldn’t get into our room) and still not having a toddler bed, we went to the front desk, where we were then told that they do not have toddler beds at all. Why wasn’t I told this? They had multiple chances to tell me, yet never did.

This left us in an unsafe situation with a one year old child and no safe place for her to sleep. As a result, I had to sit up all night on the couch to ensure she did not fall out of the bed and injure herself.

This experience was unacceptable and extremely stressful. I will never stay at this hotel again and will be leaving appropriately worded reviews on Yelp and Google if we’re not given a 100% refund. I honestly think this is the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. And I haven’t even mentioned the room was not clean. We did not use the shower because of the smell.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A spotless hotel with real soul
I first stayed at Hotel Pacific 30 years ago and returned this Christmas after also staying at another local hotel over Thanksgiving. I’m happy to say Hotel Pacific still has something increasingly rare: a genuine sense of place and soul.
Our suite was beautifully laid out with a gas fireplace, roll-out sofa, nested coffee tables, four armchairs, and a small glass dining table. The living space was generous, with great lighting options, outlets everywhere, strong free Wi-Fi (no login), very comfortable beds 😴, and TV with HBO. The huge bathroom opens into the suite with locking shutters, a long vanity, soaking tub, and a separate glass-and-terracotta shower.
The architecture is extraordinary: a terraced, secret-garden labyrinth built into the hillside, with fountains, quiet nooks, and private patios or balconies. Even in heavy rain, the property felt calm, cozy, and welcoming. In better weather, I can only imagine how magical the outdoor spaces, private hot tub, and fire pit are.
In addition to the super-convenient in and out hotel garage, the terraced design makes second-floor rooms accessible by van via rear ramp access and elevators for those with mobility issues. Short walk to historic, lively Alvarado Street with restaurants and a pharmacy nearby. Staff were kind and welcoming. It helps to verify details on the website or call at the 4 pm check-in hour if something is important to you. We would absolutely stay here again!🔥⛲️🌿

Free breakfast is so-so...no bacon,sausage and eggs. Noisy in the morning with other guests banging their doors and cleaners rolling their noisy carts on the uneven floors. Service was excellent, though.

However it does not appear to be very busy (maybe because it’s Christmas) yet we were put in a room with the only windows in the room facing walls with no view and very little natural light. On previous visits we were given rooms with a street view and balcony. Perhaps we were given this dreary room because we brought our little dog?

The staff for check in and questions needs training on customer service. Not engaging or helpful at all. Our room was not cleaned the first time as scheduled but they treated it like it was no big deal and I was bothering them. The said cleaning staff was very busy and might not have time? Why schedule at time to have your room cleaned then? I understand mistakes happen it’s the way you handle them that counts and that was not the way. Three hours later we got new towels and trash taken out no new bed sheets or cleaning.

The rooms need some updating, the bed was not very comfortable, and the toilet paper was the cheapest ever. The bed sheets were the same quality as the toilet paper cheap. A few tweaks that really wouldn’t cost that much money would have made the room so much better.

The good was the buffet as the staff who ran this did a great job. Very helpful, pleasant, and the food was good. You could tell they cared and made each guest feel welcome. Maybe they could train the front desk staff?

And yes I definitely can go and ask ,no problem, but do I have to??? I think if I pay for something, I would like to have it. We have stayed at the HP for years….always a favorite. One highlight has always been the expansive hot breakfast. We were VERY disappointed this time and might reconsider future stays. The lift was broken and they have given us a room on 4th floor. I had to carry 2 suite-cases all by myself. The internet was broken throughout our stay. A couple key complaints as these were significant reasons that I chose this hotel over other options. First, guaranteed parking is not free or included as the Travelocity listing says. Instead, limited street parking is free on Sundays and after 6pm. The evening I checked in, I got the last street parking spot and it was pretty early. If you can’t find street parking, it is $22/night. Weekday breakfast is pretty pitiful and the online breakfast photos and description is very misleading. I was told that weekends are better but I was there on a Monday morning. Check-in was easy, but I had to push back about the parking situation before I was told about street parking. The room was comfortable but the property itself could use some attention.

The hotel was not bad but very very loud, not soundproof at all, we literally couldn’t sleep well at night because of the upstairs guests were extremely loud at 2am in the morning. Staffs were good, breakfast was delicious and room was nice just really loud because you could hear all the noises from outside. If you want to rest peacefully, maybe look for another place.

Loved having a fireplace in the room. Walls are thin could hear the people above me. Bed was comfy 1/2 the pillows were comfy. No ac but we didn't need it. Loved that there was a tub for the kids. Older hotel but has some charm. Very walkable to a ton of food options and the pier. Felt safe. Parking on site although you have to pay.

Very clean! Overall a lovely place for a great price! A few things got us off on the wrong foot- when we arrived (atfer 4:00) the carpet in our room was wet. Apparently they had just shampooed it, which is awesome, but like still wet. They offered to move us but I was exhausted after lugging everything up with 2 kids, and a super clumsy luggage cart that couldn't turn corners, so instead we just turned on the fan and opened the balcony door. It dried eventually.

The breakfast was nice, for being free. Pretty standard- bagels, cereal, juice... which is great! But both mornings, there was ONE woman working. Keeping it stocked, cleaning tables, washing dishes. It's an unreasonable amount of work for that one poor woman. She did an amazing job but people kept having to ask for things, like bowls for the cereal. She just couldn't keep up.

There were a few minor annoyances like that, but again- really great value. The room was huge and clean, with a cozy fireplace. Not at all soundproof unfortunately, but the beds were comfy and it was overall a pleasant stay.

Hot tub, fireplace in the room and Elevator were not working in the hotel. We were not even notified that these features are not working and no help was provided to move the luggage when there is no elevator.
Only the nice thing was later our parking fees were removed since we complained about the above.

The location of Hotel Pacific is hard to beat. The proximity to Fisherman’s Wharf and Alvarado Street is fantastic, and it’s a half hour walk to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The architecture of the property is wonderful, with a Spanish flair, but there is some deferred maintenance. Our two bed suite was more updated, clean, lovely and large. We were on the top floor so we had a vaulted ceiling, and the gas fire place adds wonderful ambiance. The breakfast does not include any hot food, and is mainly bagels, muffins, yogurt, etc, but it’s not why we like staying there. This is our 3rd time staying at the property, and we would be happy to stay again.

Great location and room! Only problem we had was upon check in our elevator to our section of rooms was out of service and they didn’t notify us until after we went to use it (we had to go to the 3rd floor with my elderly grandma). We went back into the office and requested a different room but it was very inconvenient and there was a possibility they wouldn’t have a different room. Very unprofessional of the office staff.

It was nice nothing to complain about it! overall we spent only the night time at the hotel.
The room was spacious and the fireplace was giving a nice ambiance to it.
