We can’t say enough nice things and are so glad we stayed here!
Everything we saw on the property was very clean. I’m picky on room cleanliness and didn’t even see a hair left behind, so impressed. Breakfast was delicious and a great start to the day. Bed was simple but just what we liked and room was cool with the ac durning our summer heatwave. Also one of the quieter rooms we’ve ever stayed in, very low noise.
Located in the best part of Rome - good food options close by but not in the hectic hubbub of the heavy tourist areas. So convenient to get to almost anything from here, even by walking.
Staff were all very helpful and multilingual!
Only ‘downside’ was a short wait (10-15min) for check-in as they were short staffed that day. For us, that was not a problem at all, I would just say to plan a few extra minutes.
We would 100% stay here again when visiting Rome!

The person at the front desk upon check in was very rude to us and acted as if we were a burden. The reservation was made on a CC that we no longer had. Changing the card online was not an option. Our air conditioner was not working and the front desk told us changing a room was not an option. The comment was \"Its hot everywhere\" We decided to check out and find another hotel. Upon check out the clerk said the owner was coming at 8 pm to fix the air. By then it didn't matter - the attitude was already in play. Sadly this hotel has been a gem in the past. I hope this is an isolated incident.

Well... I'll start with the good (7 night stay). We were within 17 minutes walking of anything and everything you wanted to see in Rome including the train station. The staff was really nice. The breakfast was decent enough. The air conditioner worked in the room. The place was clean. It had an elevator. The beds were made daily.

The negatives were: the beds were rocks... ROCKS!! The shower in our room had a leak so we could not use it without the WHOLE floor filling up with water. The floors squeaked every step so if you went to the restroom in the middle of the night everyone woke up. No wash cloths were provided (I don't know if that's an Italy thing but we only had 3 towels and the floor mat). The safe didn't work AND even after telling the staff they didn't fix it. The door handle to the bathroom was put on backwards so we couldn't lock the door. The complimentary water bottle had a broken seal so we didn't drink that. There was one very very small cabinet to put all your clothes, no dresses or cubby holes or anything like that. The windows were weird in a sense that people could look through them but we were on the 2nd floor so I guess that was fine.

All in all I would not stay there again. There are many hotels on that same street that I would stay at bc of the walking distance for all the awesome things Rome has to offer.

The room was clean but very warm. Front desk said the owner doesn’t let them have the controller to the ac units in our rooms because she’s concerned it will take too long. The photo on the listing is the view from one apartment on site. No one else has roof access. I thought that was a bit misleading. Breakfast around the corner was great!

It was so close to everything! They sent train/metro directions that we were able to follow from the airport which was so helpful.

Okay so here's the deal: there is a Il Covo Hotel, Il Covo B & B, and then I am not sure what the other level would be. This is NOT clear in ANY description from Expedia. I called Expedia as we were under the impression we had booked the hotel - we were given the b & b. The rooms were supposed to be air-conditioned - the air conditioner worked sporadically- the internet worked randomly - never consistently. I called Expedia - which was a complete waste of time! \"you booked this so no chance of change or refund\"! NEVER AGAIN will I trust Expedia!!! When we arrived in Rome and were dropped off in the 'correct' location - there was no sign for the hotel, except for a small sign on a door which in hand-writing 'Il Covo' - and a phone number - I called the number - no answer - we were standing in the street for almost for an hour before I finally found someone to help us (apparently, the person in charge of our stay was on holidays...). I called Expedia - it was not a good conversation and I do not recommend using Expedia for European stays again. The breakfast location was 1 block walk from our location - about 5 minutes. The breakfast was adequate - not the best but the coffee was AMAZING as was the surrounding area to sit. The rooms were always clean - even though there was a small kitchen - we had to purchase napkins, coffee, etc. The bathrooms were clean, but not safe for seniors with lots to catch your feet on or slip on. I would not recommend this place for seniors.

Just back from a wonderful stay in Rome. For first timers Il Covo is in such a good position to walk - 10/15 minutes to the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine Hill etc. and 15 minutes to the Trevi Fountain. Same distance to the hop on hop off bus routes too.
The staff were super helpful and friendly and run Il Covo from hotel Antica Laconda. They have 24 hour reception and showed us to our room at midnight after a delayed flight!! The set of rooms were less than a minute walk away. The room was a good size for our family of three. King size bed was slightly harder than we were used to but fine for a couple of nights. Room was well provisioned with kettle small kitchenette fridge etc. but bring your own tea bags :) bathroom had wonderful rain shower head which was delightful. Rooms made and cleaned daily. And it is air conditioned which was a godsend after walking in 32degree heat! Breakfast is served at a cafe 1 minute walk away on piazza Madonna. There is a drinking fountain located here which is great for filling water bottles for the room :) 2000 year old pipes produce the nicest free water we had :) Monti is a lively district - narrow streets with cobblestones and is very pretty with several shops bars and restaurants all very close. Our only complaint which had nothing to do with IL Covo was the noise of the cars/scooters on the cobbles. Even at 2 stories up ( we were in Minerva room) the noise woke us up - however we did get used to it. We would definitely stay here again.

Firstly the room we had didn’t match any of the pictures on hotels.com. On first entrance to our ground floor room, it was very dark. We soon discovered that the window shutters were chained almost full closed ( I suspect for security reasons??) so we had no natural light. Add to that the walls were painted dark grey and the bedroom felt like a cave. The lighting in there looked nice but was completely impractical to eg apply makeup. There was no full length mirror either. One of those would be useful. There was a small cupboard that had a smallish but working fridge. Next to the kettle was a pot with sugar and 1 green tea bag. This wasn’t advertised as a provision so they should either fully provide or take it away. There was no minibar as advertised nor any sign of how to access the ‘champagne service’.
The bathroom had opening windows but there is another tall building directly opposite( it was incredibly close) so there was little light coming in there and you could also be seen by anyone looking out of the other property.
Lastly, the wardrobe was child sized so we were unable to hang anything long eg jumpsuit/ trousers.
The WiFi was the most appalling we’ve ever used anywhere and it didn’t work most of the time. My family had a room higher up and said it was clean with opening windows so lighter.
We chose this property for its location and for that we give it a big thumbs up.

Fantastic location, breakfast was wonderful and in a beautiful location a short walk from the hotel.

The room was very clean and well maintained. The location is absolutely perfect for a visit to explore Ancient Rome and had easy access to the train stations. II Covo also provided a dedicated ride from the airport (for a fair fee). The only negative comment I have is that the WiFi was not consistent and created some frustration when trying to make plans.

We specifically rented this location because it had a rooftop access with a view. Although the room was great, we were told the rooftop was in the other building which we did not have access to. We also rented a double room, however the double part / kitchen dinning access was shared with another guest. The location was excellent great spots to eat close by and really close to Colosseum. Excellent walkability to many other sites. Their continental breakfast was at a local restaurant which they own and it was great! I would stay here again.

Covo ll was a great experience. The room was verly clean. I didnt really see anyone other then when i checked in. But our room and bed was always reset by time we got back from our travels. 2 things that made me leave a 4 for amenities, 1. Wifi password. It was never provided and by time we got back to the room nobody was in the office to ask, it was usually around 8 pm though. 2. The ac did not work. Looked like the knob to work it was missing. To be fair though we did not report it because again we never really saw anyone. However the weather was amazing and we did leave the windows open and it was great. The streets of rome are full of life until 2-3 am. Again this isnt a negative on covo as this may very well have been me not communicating issues when they came up as i am sure they would have addressed them.

We enjoyed our quick stay. The only weird thing we experienced is the address listed on Hotels.com is a free doors down from the actually B&B. The staff was amazing though and our room worked wonderfully for our family of 4. We loved the breakfast at the bar down the street. Great place in the heart of Monti. Would recommend.

The room was large and quite nice. The shower water temperature was irregular and got cold. Climate control also did not work. However, the primary reason for my low score was our check-in. We entered the building to check-in and asked if it was Il Covo. The woman at the desk rolled her eyes and said yes. The check-in process was long and the entire time this woman was incredibly rude to us - the only thing we can think was because we’re American. This was not a budget hotel (in our opinion) and to be treated so rudely was no expected. Days before our stay the first nights stay was put on my card, I had used Apple Pay. She asked me for the same card and I had the physical as she said she couldn’t use tap. This started a series of rejected transactions and the receptionist berating me in a crowded lobby, “for giving her the wrong card.” My fiancé tried to explain the virtual account number is different than physical and she cut him off. When any other person came in she spoke to them and ignored us in the midst of our check-in. Her colleague came out and asked if she needed help and she turned it down. The woman with the long hair who showed us our room was kind and gave a great dinner rec. the woman who helped us figure out a key issue was kind too. But this woman spoiled our stay - great location and breakfast down the street were huge perks but for the rest of our stay we were afraid the woman from check-in would be at the desk. Truly ruined our stay.

This hotel was an excellent location for walking to all the major sites around the city. The breakfast was in a local cafe, but perfectly adequate, if a little limited.
The room was very comfortable, clean and quiet. But there was no kettle to make a drink. There was a lift for getting to the fifth floor. It felt safe and secure and there was a safe in the room.

The property was clean and the staff was very nice. Had a good breakfast to start the day. Our room did not have A/C and Rome was warm the week we were there. I do believe that the hotel has rooms with A/C. It wasn't too bad seeing how the evenings were cool. I didn't catch her name, but the woman at the desk in the evening was very helpful. She brought ice up to our room when my wife fell and twisted her ankle. During the day, Rosanna was also helpful getting us going in the right direction to see the sights of Rome.

We stayed in a large room with a tiny bath and were very comfortable. Breakfast in a small restaurant 2 blocks away was nice -- croissants, coffee, bread, cheese, yogurt and juice. After a few days we paid extra for omelets to get a little protein and variety. Very nice neighborhood with good restaurants just half a mile from the Roman Colosseu.

This property was perfect for getting around to the Colosseum/Roman Forum, and also to the Trevi Fountain/Pantheon as it sits close to both. We also we able to walk from the train station as well even though with luggage wasn’t ideal. The breakfast was good and the staff were very nice. It is in the city so expect noise outside and could hear people in the hallway fairly easily. Overall we really enjoyed that we stayed here because of the ability to get around.

We had a great stay here. The room is spacious and gives you a real Rome feeling with the furniture and exposed brick ceiling. Grateful to have been on the bottom floor as the stair case up is quite windy. A staircase we climbed many times to enjoy the beautiful patio up top. The down side to the bottom floor room would be the sound of vehicles right by the window but I do believe all ground floor rooms in Rome may have this same issue. The bathroom is clean and everything worked really well. The location is great for walking and I cannot say enough great things about the included breakfast. The breakfast is at a small restaurant down the street and the food was always served fast and fresh. Note it’s a set menu but we enjoyed it all 5 mornings and the money saved was an added bonus! The staff were all so incredibly helpful weather we needed to borrow an iron or our hair dryer wasn’t working, they even called us a cab at check out! If you want a great authentic Roman experience this is a great place to stay I would absolutely stay here again.

Certainly Overpriced and Overrated

I might have just been unlucky, but the whole stay felt off from the start. Even though I got a booking confirmation within minutes, when I arrived over three hours later the receptionist claimed they had just received it and made me wait another 10–15 minutes.

The room wasn’t what I booked or anything like the pictures. It was bigger, yes, and clean, but that’s about all the positives. The wardrobe was tiny, barely enough for one person, (picture on this review) completely unrealistic for a room sold as “triple.” The bathroom was clean but cramped, with a low overhead shower that’s awkward unless you’re under 1.76m.

Breakfast was a joke. Advertised as a “continental breakfast,” but all you get is: one orange juice, a yogurt, two slices of ham, two slices of cheese, two slices of plain white bread, one croissant, and a coffee or cappuccino. That’s it, anything else costs extra.

Wi-Fi didn’t work, TV didn’t work, and since the building had no mobile network coverage, I was basically cut off the whole time. Staff kept saying it was temporary, but after five days nothing changed. The reception building next door had working Wi-Fi, management couldn’t even bother with a €90 extender to cover the guest rooms.

Staff were kind and the place was clean, but that doesn’t make up for false advertising and poor service. For the price, absolutely not worth it.

We had a lovely time in Rome staying at this property. Staff were very nice and spoke English. Location is conveniently located 10 min walk from the colosseum. The breakfast is served at a cafe one block down the road. Room had a small frig and included a wine bottle opener - which when traveling Europe can be difficult to find. Would recommend for experience and price.

They staff were friendly and attentive. Our room was nice, but located up more than a few flights of stairs. There was an elevator but it’s super tiny and could barely hold 2-3 of us. Breakfast was delightful even though the restaurant was located down the street. Despite all the stairs, I would definitely recommend this place!

The room was pretty nice. I liked the breakfast at a nearby cafe - it was a couple pieces of meat and cheese with coffee, bread, yogurt, croissant. It was a little warm in the room but it’s also summer in Italy. The location was nice, a short walk to the Colosseum. It was also walking distance (about a mile) to Termini, so I was able to save on a bus/taxi.

We stayed at Hotel Il Cove for two nights and had a fantastic experience! The location is excellent—close to major attractions yet tucked away enough to feel peaceful. Our room was spotless, modern, and very comfortable. The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful, always ready with recommendations and a smile. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, with plenty of variety to start the day right.

Everything about our stay exceeded expectations, and we would definitely choose Hotel Il Cove again when visiting Rome. Highly recommended!

For the most part we liked the hotel..The staff were friendly and most of them helpful. Thre hotel is located near a metro station which is connected to the train station. The room was nice and bed was comfortable. Why we give it a three star rating is the first night of our stay there was no hot water. Two staff members came and couldn't fix the problem, the next day someone finally turned on a separate boiler for the room. The other reason was on our last night the WiFi didn't work, as a tourist the plan I got was slow running in the hotel and I needed to make some bookings. I guess our room had a separate WiFi link and a staff member tried to fix it no go. She then told me she needed her phone and left. I kept waiting for her to come back with an update or solution. Finally after ten minutes I went back to the front desk and then she told me there was nothing the hotel could do until the morning. She did offer to move us to another room but it was getting late and we didn't want to have pack up and change rooms. We were disappointed that the hotel didn’t offer any compensation for the lack of services we received. So an ok place but I can't give it a recommendation.

I never give five stars, so don't take that as a ding, necessarily! My husband, two teen sons, and I stayed in the family \"room\" at Il Covo, which is the B&B option for the Hotel Antica Locanda, in the Colosseum district. I chose it because of its location between the Colosseum, the Forum, Trevi fountain, and the Spanish steps.The room itself was very comfortable, and had couches that turned into beds with mattress toppers for the boys and a king sized bed in a separate room for us. The building was not air conditioned, but each room was and it was very comfortable even in the 100+ degree heat. Our room was on the 5th (6th!) floor, but thankfully there was a tiny elevator (one person and a large suitcase only). Since we were on the top floor, our room had a lovely little terrace which overlooked the neighborhood. It was too hot to sit outside except for EARLY in the morning or late in the evening, but in the evening the Colosseum was lit with the lovely \"golden hour\" glow of the setting sun. There were literally DOZENS of places to eat within a two block radius (including the cafe down the street that is where our breakfast was). Note: for Americans it was jarring that some places didn't open for dinner until 7:30pm. And some places didn't want you to just order drinks and snacks, and others ONLY had drinks and snacks, depending on the hour. This hotel was not the least expensive option in the neighborhood, but it was delightful and I would stay there again.

The Il Covo is managed by the (adjacent) hotel just across a small side street. It is a 10 minute walk from the Cavour metro station. The check-in staff was wonderful. She walked us up to our room to avoid our getting confused. Were on the 5th floor and there is a lift. The room was comfortable. The only irritation was the internet got clogged in the pm but not enough to lose a star. It is close to eats, shops, and small grocery. The Colosseum is a 10 minute walk. Buses were within reasonable distances. Tap and go was handy for us on the few bus trips we did. Check-out was very easy.
Transportation tip: On the inbound, we took Leonardo (€18.00-ticket) from the airport plus 1 stop Metro B (€1.20) from Roma Termini to Cavour. On the outbound, we took Metro B (€1.20) from Cavour to EUR Magliana. Then Cotral bus from stop #f10036 (€2.20) right outside the EUR Magliana exit. You need to download the Cortal App to buy a ticket, i.e. no tap and go. Pro: It is a chill ride (vs.Termini) and save some coin. Con: Buses are less frequent but it is the start of the line and our 11:00 bus left on the second.

The room was huge, nicely updated and featured doors opening onto a quiet courtyard, which we very much enjoyed. The location was wonderful on a quieter street, with an easy walk to the colloseum, shopping, museums and restaurants. We were there for 4 nights, 3 of which our air conditioning was broken. We weren't offered any discounts or a room change, which was disappointing especially since it was excessively hot and we requested service multiple times. They did fix it for our final night, but it was still not working at full capacity. So, even though the room was nice it was very difficult to get comfortable and sleep due to the heat.

This is a little gem close to everything you want to see. We pretty much walked everywhere. Reception was very nice and welcoming. Informative too. Pretty good shower when it stayed up. The restaurant for breakfast, although a little walk away, was good so we went back for lunch on our last day. The only downsides. There was no kettle or coffee machine. I think there was in the past as there were tea bags and cups but no kettle. Also the front door is hard to open when you’re leaving. The smell of the jasmine growing up the front of the building is fantastic.

Somewhere to sleep!

You needed to check-in at the reception of the sister hotel, ll Covo was 3 buildings along. The room we had was tiny, dark and cheaply furnished, noisy, the lift was tiny - 1 person and a small case - not suitable for a buggy or wheelchair. Breakfast was served at a cafe down the road on a small square. Continental was served but service wasn't personal/friendly. The room was clean. The terrace area was ok - acessed feom the sister hotel - no bar but you could take your own drinks/food up. The location was good - 10min from the colosseum. We wouldn't choose to stay here again, feeling disappointed.

Great Stay at Il Covo

Had a great stay at Il Covo, the receptionists were amazing and very helpful. The room was clean and the size was just right for the price. The cot for our baby was prepared in advance and was free of charge. The free breakfast was good. They let us leave our luggage before check-in and after check-out. We stayed a while at the reception after checkout because our baby was fussy and the receptionist was very accommodating. We will surely book again on our next visit.

Room was small and felt a bit claustrophobic, same as the elevator. Almost no space for luggage’s. There was a window but the view is the wall of the next building. Only had 2 pillows for 2 guests and no way to request for extra except to go all the way down to the office next door. The hotel has their own resto/cafe which was nice except we were placed in the other building so then we had to go to the cafe down the road for our breakfast. Breakfast was nice but the staff didn’t feel welcoming. Bathroom was nice, clean and seemed brand new. There’s a small fridge in the room. Heater control is on/off only, can’t change temp. Close to the coliseum and the office personnel give good directions.

I enjoyed my stay at Il Covo. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, making my visit pleasant. However, there was a sewer-like smell that occasionally seeped into the room, prompting me to keep the windows open. This would be problematic during the hot summer or cold winter days. Additionally, after my first night, I only had access to one clean towel daily.
Overall, I liked this place and would consider staying again if I could be assured of more towels and a room without any unpleasant odors. The staff and location were excellent.

The location was convenient, breakfast was excellent.
Our room was lovely but we had sewer gas smell. They treated it 3 times during our 3 night stay but it always came back in the evening. Smelled it all night making sleep difficult. Property fully booked so they couldn't give us a different room. Our friends had a room on 3rd floor and it was fine.
3 different keys needed to get in the building and room plus keys were on a huge heavy key fob making it hard to take with you although you could leave them at the front desk but it was a few doors up. Be aware that checkin is up the street at a different property.
We wouldn't stay here again.
1. The smell in our room.
2. Using all the keys to get in and out. There was only 1 set of keys so if you wanted to go out separately, you couldnt get back into the building nor your room without keys.

Front desk Rosanna was very friendly and we enjoyed sharing laughs together. However the actual room is so small and noisy. Felt like we were sleeping in a box; no space for luggage, shower is nearly impossible to move in and we could hear every sound from neighbors through walls to people outdoors all night. Very old building. Also no wifi!! Even regular service was nearly blocked we couldn’t access the internet at all; when I asked if there was another option, the night front desk just told me “no it doesn’t work. No other wifi.” Breakfast was okay, bed was comfortable and location convenient (more up/downhill than we expected), but probably wouldn’t stay again. Thank you.
