Staff was fantastic, great suggestions for what to do. Was a little disappointed with my room. I thought I’d paid for a balcony but got a patio instead so not much of a view. Beautiful property, food is excellent, I would definitely stay here again. It’s a great alternative to the beach. Lots of character and charm.

From the moment you step foot through the main entrance to the hidden paradise of the Santa Teresa Hotel you are made to feel most welcome. The staff are lovely. Our room was gorgeous. The food delicious. And the view! Wow!

This is beautiful old colonial style house that has been turned into a boutique hotel. If you want to stay away from the beach area and hotel strip, this is a wonderful stay. It is very quiet and relaxing so keep that in mind when booking. The staff was amazing and helpful. Tip: book the higher level rooms for more space and better views.

Our bedroom was a scam, we paid almost $700 USD for a deluxe room with a supposed « garden » view (Carnaval period), we only had one window, we had a very cheap courtyard with all the hotel building surrounded us. In consequence, almost no natural light. They told us the hotel was full so they could not offer something else, but the day after (when we checked out) we actually learnt it was not. We were super disappointed because it was recommended by our friend and it came out so cheap. I’ve checked out the price, we actually paid (certainly because of carnaval) more than the night cost of their master suite (announced at $600) for the worst and cheapest room ever.
As for the brunch, overall not too bad, but wouldn’t recommend the egg Benedict with salmon, but their salmon smelled so fishy. We met another American couple who tried this too and they couldn’t eat the salmon either.
The hotel amenities are very nice, the swimming pool is great, with a nice view and the overall architecture of the building is beautiful. We recommend the neighborhood which is nice.

It was even rated as one of the best places to stay in the world by Forbes in 2023. I have already started to look at the MGallery properties and am looking to stay with them as much as possible. The hotel is adorable and the staff is very friendly. Santa Teresa is a artsy neighborhood with great food and entertainment options. The only issue with my stay is that they leave delicious complimentary chocolate & coffee cookies in the room and they attract hundreds of ants. I appreciate the gesture but they must realize this is an issue in the property. I probably ate a dozen tiny ants before I saw them crawling all over my hand and arm.

The property and pool are gorgeous! Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The only downside was slow pool bar service. Also consider the location if you will be relying on ubers- often times drivers cancel because of the difficulty getting to the top of the hill. I will definitely recommend the hotel and stay again if I return to Rio.

As always, I had an exceptional stay at the hotel. The staff proved to be exceptionally attentive, and I benefited from an unprecedented double upgrade and a late check-out. In fact, the staff were the most attentive I have ever seen, having stayed in five star hotels across the globe. The Michelin-star restaurant is to die for and the artwork is mesmerizing. I must for lovers of sophisticated boutique hotels.

Wonderful oasis hotel
We loved this hotel. A real oasis in the hills away from the amazing hustle and bustle of downtown Rio. Wonderful staff who were very happy to help you out. A lovely restaurant where we celebrated our friend’s birthday. Wonderful balcony room with a slight view of Christ Reedemer. Loved the pool and pool bar, although the cocktail making could do with some attention, and the staff there were slow. Would come back to stay if ever in Rio again.

Make sure to know your route , do not wander aimlessly as it is close to several favelas. I would request a room not on the \"mountain side\" as this is right beside the tram line and noisy. Spa was nice, pool was great.

Good location in quiet, safe neighbourhood close to nearby tourist attractions. Spacious room but facilities not as modern as I expected. The pool is nice but by afternoon it gets dirty with leaves. Very good massage by Michelle. The buffet breakfast has a nice selection but more options (eggs) at the weekend. The coffee is outstanding, a nice zesty orange flavour with plenty available at reception throughout the day. One thing that did annoy me was that in the rooms, they’re are notices stating they have a project to help the environment by reducing laundry and if you don’t want your towels washed that day leave them hanging up. I put one towel on the floor for washing and left others on the hook hanging for not washing but all towels were replaced. Why have signs if you’re not going to following this?? Also it annoyed me in the restaurant that only menus were available by QR codes, it would be my preference to actually see a physical menu for ease of use. Staff were friendly and provided assistance when requested

Shic boutique hotel in great location for visiting Lapa and the surrounding area. Very trendy decor with a great restaurant. Staff were super helpful with recommendations and even booked tour tickets for us. Would gladly recommended this hotel and the rooms were beautiful.

This hotel has lovely décor and the rooms are lovely with the eye for detail to what a traveler needs. The pool area is nice clean and calm with great service. The break feast was amazing with many options. If you love interior design this place is filed with small gems of natural artwork. The spa at the hotel was a lovely treat too. The location in Santa Teresa is very central and a walk around the area feels safe.

A very different Rio de Janeiro hotel
I chose this hotel for its proximity to the convention center. I had not realized that this hotel was part of the Accor chain of boutique hotels, very classy residence in a historic building. Being historic, it does not have an elevator. Being on a hill there are further steps down to the very select restaurant also used for breakfast. A lot of charm, very peaceful place in a noisy city, but I was not comfortable venturing into the streets around, a mix of classic building and run-down places. The view of the city and surroundings is stunning, but to get there your taxi or Uber needs to navigate cobblestone-covered winding and steep streets, something that gets old pretty quickly. There were no neighborhood restaurants, and the hotel restaurant is very chic, nouvelle cuisine (small portions) and expensive. The room, bedding, bathroom and amenities were first-class. The wi-fi was not secure, and there were few power sockets in the room for computer and other devices. So to summarize a mixed experience of a unique property with high-end appointments in a different part of Rio (i.e. not Copacabana) but with some limitations and oddities that come with the concept.

We had a great stay at this Rio oasis! Though the location was just outside of the main city center/attractions, we loved everything about this hotel! It was a very nice and unique hotel. The pool and bar was nice and the restaurant was very good! Didn't stay too long but enjoyed it as much as we could. We had problems with the water in the room and wouldn't give us enough hot water for the shower and sink. Other than that. everything was great!

This hotel is so charming, it's a little oasis in Santa Teresa. The room was spacious with great views of Rio. The food at the restaurant was delicious, definitely recommend checking out Tereze if you get a chance. It was cold when we were there so we didn't get a chance to use the pool but it looked lovely. It was be tricky getting to Santa Teresa, you need to know which roads to take as sometimes google maps will take you through a favela to get there so just be aware and you'll be fine. Cute for a night or two in bohemian Santa Teresa, easy to walk to the local bars and restaurants in the area.

Santa Teresa is an amazing area in Rio, vibrant and full of Art. The Santa Teresa Hotel RJ M Gallery it's a little gem, we stayed for one night but I wished could stay more. Beautiful view, lovely surrounding and very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend.

This hotel was absolutely perfect. It was a little sanctuary from the craziness of Rio. Our room was spectacular, the breakfast was lovely, the pool area is small but it served our needs perfectly. We didn’t feel too safe walking around outside our hotel so we just uber’d everywhere. And last but not least, they have the best staff, everyone was so kind and friendly and helpful. We don’t speak any Portuguese but a lot of staff speak English and the rest were patient with me as a signed and butchered my way through.

The hotel is amazing, beautiful pool and very friendly accommodating staff. I spent an afternoon at the spa which was a lovely experience. The only hesitation I can report is that at the moment, the surrounding neighborhood is a bit dangerous and it is not advisable to walk around the area at night. Enjoy the nice bar and restaurant and hotel grounds instead.

This was our third trip to the hotel. It's a wonderful restful place and service is good by Brazil standards. We thought that the pool area had lost a little of its charm since being taken over by the Sofitel in a bid to squeeze in a few more chairs but overall it remains the best weekend retreat in Rio!

Really nice staff. Flexible check in time and check out time based on availability. But their English is not really good. Internet Connection from my room is close to zero and not really sure the phone is working. Junior Suite is just a little bit bigger than the Deluxe room. Don't believe the pictures.

Great hotel, to badd for the Poor Internet Access
My stay was a business stay since I had to work in downtown Rio. The service and accommodations are great and the food is high quality. The view from several rooms, the pool and the restaurant are also very nice. The only problem is that the room where I stayed had no internet coverage. The only place I could have descent internet access was at the lobby or the pool which was a problem in my case when I wanted to work on the room.

Santa Teresa is a wonderful location in the hills above the cliche tourist haunts of Copacabama or Ipenema and the hotel itself is an elegant, even quaint, late nineteenth century coffee-grower's farmhouse. It was refurbished only a few years ago but is looking worn - or to put it politely, shabby chic. A couple of irritations not least illumination - the rooms are so dark you can't read in them and the stairs are so dark you could fall down them - and it's unacceptable that they don't provide bottled water in the rooms each day even though they warn the tap water is not suitable for drinking. Even so, it's better than the usual hotel chains and on balance I'd just about recommend it.

If this was a £100 a night hotel, or even £200 a night hotel, I would have raved about it. We wanted something more intimate, more off-piste and not a big industrial block - however this is one of the MOST EXPENSIVE hotels in the whole of Rio. Don't underestimate how much more expensive this place is compared to other more industrial 5* hotels. So I expected some basic love and attention. We got instead, no free water, intermittent wifi, intermittent towels, a tiny room (until we complained). What annoyed me the most was at over £400 per night breakfast was extra - are you kidding me! However to their credit, after we complained the hotel threw in breakfast within the cost of the room and upgraded us.
The pool area is very small, but pretty - however expect to be bitten to shreds by mosquitos - a few anti-mosquito candles would have made a world of difference and this is what I mean by missing the 5* small touches....

Christmas in Rio
We stayed in hotel Santa Teresa over Christmas period 2015 and loved it. We would definitely recommend it as the place to stay in Rio. Overall the staff were very helpful and would call out the two female receptionists who worked in the evening who were very friendly and helpful.

A little gem with some quirks
I booked the Santa Teresa hotel for two nights before heading to Copacabana for the rest of my stay in Rio. I wanted some place where I could relax and chill out, and the hotel's perfect for that.
There's not much to do in the Santa Teresa area - a couple of sites to see, and a fantastic restaurant called Aprazivel, but apart from that, there's not much going on, and it's quite a way into the city (60 Brazilian Real with the hotel's driver to Copacabana). So two nights here suited me perfectly.
The staff at check-in were lovely and really helpful. My room was absolutely spotless, and really nicely decorated. The view from the pool is pretty spectacular, and the bar has been voted one of the most romantic, although travelling alone I can't testify to that :)
The quirks? Well the wifi is really, really patchy. It struggled to cope with me uploading a photo (so I gave up). But not a big deal really. Also you do notice the security presence at the hotel - which I can totally appreciate as the area does border some favelas, but a friendly 'ola' didn't really result in any answer.

Lovely views, disappointing reception service
The hotel is set in a lovely location - wonderful views across Rio. The pool area is great in particular. The restaurant is quite pricey thought the food is really high quality. The bar is relaxed and the serving staff at both were great. HOwever the staff at reception were not helpful in helping us to understand the area which was disappointing. The Wifi is so slow as to be virtually useless. Some of the bath products were all used up after night 2 but none were ever replenished.

Wonderful stay at this beautiful charming hotel. The only downside to our hotel is that the pool was under renovation; wish they would have told us this before booking the hotel. Additionally, on Saturday night it was a little loud by the bar. Otherwise wonderful very hospitable stay with great staff!

Beautiful hotel but it was clear that the only reason it was on offer at a 47% discount on hotels.com is that the pool area was being completely refurbished, so after enjoying relaxing by the pool with fantastic views of Rio on the day we arrived we were told that we would have to take a car to an alternative pool the following days of our stay. This wasn't mentioned at time of booking. Also the wifi wouldn't allow proper use of any worthwhile Internet activities. The hotel really is stunning and the spa is superb (get the signature massage). One of the best designed interiors of any hotel ive been to, it's in keeping with its history as an old colonial coffee plantation. Staff are friendly and helpful and clearly well trained. Be warned if you use the laundry service - £30 for a few small items! Ive pointed out the negatives here from an overall fantastic stay and in reality probably one of the best 5* hotels I've ever stayed at. I will be going again.

It was a bit disappointing that the surrounding area is all under construction and all of the sites in the area were closed while we were there. As the area is not safe, you need to take a taxi in the evenings into the city. Many taxis from the city do not know where the hotel is and so it is a bit challenging to find. It is a perfect hotel to stay in if you only want to relax in the hotel. Otherwise, it is better to stay in the centre of Rio.

Sublime honeymoon trip
Superlative experience - especially for a honeymoon. The staff was outstanding and decorated our room very nicely, for a modest fee, complete with roses, macarons and a great sparkling wine upon our arrival. The pool is really a wonderful oasis with great views and poolside bar - you feel like royalty. We stayed from Fri-Tue and we felt like the hotel pool was all our own on Mon-Tue - which is rare in Rio! Hotel bar and restaurant are also excellent. Outstanding location for getting away from the beaches and crowds, and finding some great places for dinner with music on most nights, and great place to go to Lapa for finding samba (Carioca da Gema stands out - recommended by locals).

last night in Rio ( this time anyway!)
We stayed only one night which was the last night of our holiday. We had a super room with great views, bed linen and shower room. The late supper included a signature sweet, ' Lollipops' recommended to all! The breakfast was excellent and so were the staff. The little touches made it, a room upgrade, a present, delicious chocolates plus the bed was made too even when we were leaving to fly home that evening.

It is a boutique hotel so there is not as many staff per guest as you could get in Copa Cabana palace, it is a refreshing change in the heart of a very beautiful neighborhood.

days. Great pool area and terrace with a view for having some sunset drinks. The restaurants around the hotel are pricey and not so good. The Santa Teresa neighborhood is interesting but quite far from the beaches and other known spots. The hotel is a good hideaway for a short vacation far away from all the noise.

First impressions were outstanding: beautifully decorated, cool vibe, well-maintained grounds, nice setting, great views, bar is cool (though an odd name for a romantic bar), food was good. Surprises in room. Chocolate on pillow. I won't stay here again on work travel, but would on vacation with no set schedule. With one exception, most complaints are minor, but seem off for a hotel of this caliber. Pool area is swanky, but the hot tub is tepid with weak jets. Bath products nice, but not refilled. Restaurant looks great, but pricy, even for Rio - hard to eat for <R$90, w/o alcohol. Shower is rain style, but slow to heat. The complaints detract from stay, but weren’t serious. The biggest complaint is the location makes it hard to get to or from the area. Pretty area, but mostly inaccessible to transport. First day I waited 45 min for a cab, before opting for the hotel driver when he returned. Second day, same thing. They assured me it would be 10 min, yet 30 min later no taxi had arrived. Nor can one book a taxi in advance, except to the airport or bus station. One could speculate that this is a way to make money for the hotel (driver is 2.5x cost of taxi), but more likely there just are no taxis in the morning. Be prepared to pay more and wait a long time for the hotel car, or figure out the bus system - taxis are not an option. In reverse, cabs don't like to go to Sta Teresa because of the cobblestones. As a footnote, a perk was to see Alicia Keys in lobby as a fellow guest.

We loved our stay/room, the staff was lovely but there was an off-putting smell that lingered outside of our room - sort of like a public restroom? i don't know how to describe it. The smell was not so prominent inside but there was still a trace... Perhaps it is different for rooms in other parts of the hotel
