The hostesses were very friendly. The room was small, but we were with family in town most of the time, so it was fine for sleeping. The location on the water was great!
There was a tapping in the ceiling and wall at night (pipes?), which would have interfered with sleep, but the room and mattress were very comfortable, so we slept well. The area is quiet, free from traffic noise. We'll definitely stay there again!

The room had a fairly strong unpleasant odor. The sheets were questionable. The host was very nice and friendly. Maybe they are short staffed. I wish I could say it was great because so many of the small places are struggling. But for the price it should have been much cleaner. It was very peaceful and on the water. The free breakfast was also lacking. The pastries seemed like they had been around for a while too long. I hope they are able to make some small improvements and be successful.

The room was small and musty smell. The carpet was damp and it was not as pictured on their website. We had people on the porch outside our unit who drank and talked and laughed well pat 11 p.m. and we could hear them which kept us awake. There were no coffee filters and the kitchen was not well stocked

3 night stay to be close to Picture Rock…
The staff make this motel! Friendly and helpful.
Motel is very dated but comfy. Like microwave and refrig in room. Plenty of parking. Construction makes finding this a challenge.
Definitely the highlight to this motel is being right on the lake!! Lots of seating, BBQ grills and the sunsets don’t disappoint. I’d come back.

The setting is beautiful but the motel was falling apart so to speak. From the sheer paneled curtains that gave zero privacy with an ice machine outside our door, to a thermostat and bathroom ceiling falling off wall we were very disappointed. Old.

Way over priced. Very old. I had trouble breathing because of mold. There was a pill of some kind on the floor. Poor lighting. Even outside sidewalk area was not swept or clean. The pictures are deceiving. I understand limited rooms in the area, but this was very overstated and disappointing. Especially for the price.

Excellent view of Lake Superior. Lots of sitting areas for enjoying the scenery. My husband and I played backgammon until it got too dark to see. We will cherish that memory. The room. Oh boy. Be prepared to accept very basic no frills. 75 years outdated. Two wall outlets. One in front room. One in bathroom. If you just need to sleep and u like to b by the water, u will b ok. Bring your own sheets. Just because you can get the corners of the sheet around the top of the mattress doesn't mean they fit.

Formerly lived in Munising, and to visit family.

Knowing this is an older building, I was pleased with the accommodations. Our family of five and pup all had a comfortable place lay our heads. We loved the views of course.

Things to note:
You won’t find fancy in Munising. Be thankful for the locals making a living and trying to keep up with tourism.

The proprietor of this motel was friendly and helpful. The room itself was clean and comfortable, for the most part. The bathroom was good-sized and had everything we needed. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and provided us a good night's sleep. The sofa was saggy, uncomfortable, and badly in need of replacement. We had a kitchen which was fairly decently appointed, though we did not use it for cooking meals. We had a lovely view of the bay and a balcony with decent chairs. What made our stay less comfortable was the stairway to our 2nd floor room. While the steps were sturdy, the stairway was in very bad repair overall, with broken or missing rubber treads and many protruding nails that could easily cause injury. With this stairway in its present condition, we would not recommend the second story of this property for anyone who is elderly and/or has mobility issues. Carrying our belongings up and down this stairway was a treacherous proposition at best. The cost of this room did not reflect its quality. This property warrants updating.

We stayed at the sunset house. There was peeling paint which is unsafe for children and the toilet seat was broken and the bathroom door lock was broken so you got stuck in bathroom all the time. I complained the first day but it never got fixed.
Every time you went to the bathroom you would fall off the toilet. Not cool. Woman that worked there was very friendly and knowledgeable

This place is extremely dated and dirty. For $200 a night on a weeknight it's crazy that they've put no money into updating the rooms in no less than 30 years. The carpet is full of stains, the furniture from the 1980s, the linoleum in the bathroom is the only thing keeping the toilet from falling through the floor I am sure. The bathroom smells like piss, the room smells musty and rotten. The bed was not comfortable at all and the sheets were scratchy.

The staff was super friendly but not much they can do about the fact that this place is just old and dirty.

Pictured Rock Base camp

I travel a lot and although this is not a big name brand hotel I found this little motel 50 feet from Lake superior Shoreline an excellent place for a base camp location to explore pictured rock national Shoreline. We selected the double queen bedroom with the kitchen living area combo.
The only downfall which is not the motels fault was the bridge which takes you back into town was being reconstructed thus far the road leading you back to town turned into a 20 minute car ride rather than 1 minute car ride.
I would definitely stay at this motel again.

Great location. Nice bay views and sunsets. Great chairs outdoors and seating areas on grass by the water. But the room are well past their prime with outdated furniture and style. A thorough fix up, caulking, and paint job would do wonders as a start. Screen door kept falling out of the track. Funky odors at times. Updated fixtures would be a bonus and make the experience more worthwhile as well as justify the cost. Bed was okay at best. Breakfast - marginal. Really - property has lots of potential but has lost its shine ...

Is this the right hotel?

I'm not a hyper critical person. But I'm surprised that the reviews of this hotel are as positive as they are. We arrived late so perhaps we were assigned the last and worst room. Idk. The bathroom had peeling wall paper, the carpet was damp near the refrigerator, the air conditioner controls were inaccessible, and the furnishings seem to date from the 1970s. I reread the online reviews after our stay and frankly it seems that we were in a different hotel than previous reviewers.

We stayed at Sunset on the Bay last week with our four kids for two nights (I wish we could have left after one) The conditions were very poor, dated, and dirty. The bathroom drywall was falling apart, carpet was missing from the floor, stains were on the sheets/bed and the pullout couch, and a rotten apple was found behind the couch. There is no maid service - Staff did not come to our room to empty garbage or give fresh towels. Breakfast selection was small and poor in the morning. We paid over $500 for two nights which was shocking given the state of the room.

The only positive was the the view of the lake and there was actually hot water/good pressure when showering.

We planned this trip last minute, so our options were limited for a family of 6. Sleep under the stars before choosing this hotel.

Extremely Disappointing Stay – Not as Advertised

We booked a room specifically with a lake view, but upon arrival, we were given a completely different house down the street — no view in sight. When we entered, the cleaning crew was still there, and the bathroom reeked of urine. There was visible urine around the base of the toilet, which was completely unacceptable.

The sliding doors in the kitchen had no blinds or curtains, leaving us with no privacy from the neighboring hotel. All the bedrooms were upstairs, but with only one vent in the hallway, the rooms were unbearably hot at night. Only one room had a ceiling fan — and it didn’t even work. When I called room service, I was told to crack a window for air. Seriously?

The kitchen floor had a raised lip that caused multiple trips and near-falls — clearly a safety hazard. And the “continental breakfast” was laughable: just coffee, packaged juice, pre-wrapped pastries, and yogurt.

Needless to say, this was one of the most disappointing stays we’ve ever had. Definitely not worth the money and not at all what was promised.

Mattress was comfortable but the pillows were flat and pretty terrible. The room had an old range and a small fridge and sink. The bathroom was clean-ish but the whole room was outdated, run down and gross. The pans and utensils were pretty disgusting as well. I guess I expected more from a room that was $300+ per night. Wouldn't stay here again.

I LOVE the 1950’s “kitschy” feel of this motel. It was clean- dated yes, but with character you don’t get at modern hotels! Love the knotty pine. We didn’t intend to spend entire days in our room- shower & sleep without imposing on family and this motel was perfect. Comfortable mattress- hot water on demand & good water pressure. AC used for 1 afternoon & worked great. If you must have all the latest “amenities” this might not be your place, but I enjoyed the “throw back” feel and was pleased with this stay. Would stay here again.

Three of us came up and stayed three nights in one of the \"kitchen\" rooms. We were not told ahead of time that there was road construction, so we were surprised that we had to drive all the way to Wetmore just to get back into downtown Munising. It added a lot of extra driving to our trip. That was disappointing. We paid a little more for the kitchen room, so we expected to have more space. However, everything seemed to be tiny. The \"couch\" was a loveseat, the kitchen was very tiny (room for one person to stand by refrigerator). There were only two barstools even though three of us were staying there. The beds were said to be \"queen\" but they were full sized. The toilet in the bathroom did not flush well. There were hardly ever people working in the motel during the day. They did not come in to change our garbage. We had to ask for coffee filters, and the people working in the office were kind of rude (except for the gentleman when we checked in). We had to ask for more toilet paper. We were not told that our room was going to be on the second floor. There is no elevator and pretty rickety stairs. One of my sisters has a back problem, so this was concerning. The best part of our stay was definitely the beautiful view. If you stay here, you need to know that it is very simple accommodations.

I understand that it's an older property, and expect wear and tear, but several items hadn't been attended to (in quite some time, I believe). I will say that it was clean. But the couch had two lengthy tears in the arms, the living room easy chair's legs were totally broken, to the point that it would have probably collapsed if anyone tried to sit in it. The outlet behind the bed was broken, to the point that it wouldn't hold the prongs of a plug. The flooring in the bathroom is quite discolored in the wear path. Overall, quite disappointing, almost appearing that the owners have stopped trying.

Overpriced, street side rental; wouldn’t recommend

We booked the vacation home and it appeared online we would have a bay view, along with breakfast included. This was not the case. We had a house that was up the road from the actual motel, sandwiched between another home that was falling apart. There’s no pics of this house on the website and for the price we paid, I expected it to be a little nicer. The front desk was okay, but didn’t give much details - they provided better service to those staying at the actual motel. The floors of the home were slanted, it was pretty musty, and the upstairs master bedroom had a damaged closet with the tv ripped out of it just sitting on the floor. The cleanliness of bedding was questionable and we found mouse droppings in the silverware drawer. Definitely not what we expected when we booked.
If you’re looking for a budget single home and don’t mind paying a little more for a lot less, this is for you. The cheaper comfort inn next door will probably be our choice next time so we have a better level of cleanliness.

1) The intermittent sound of flushing water coming from the floor vents woke us up repeatedly throughout the night.
2) The room was stuffy as the air conditioning unit struggled to compensate for the uncontrollable heat that was blowing out of the floor vents in July.
3) My husband and I suffered from back pain for days due to the hard bed.
4) Loud neighbors woke us up in the middle of the night and early morning.

This property has potential, but I would not book here again due to the poor sleep quality.

No…just no. The only thing good about this place is the view. First they didn’t have the key so I had to go unlock the door myself. The room was old. Walls were disguising. Bed had a huge dip in it. Screen came off the rails. Stairs at night (our room was one of the few upstairs) were dark and dangerous. Toilet was the size of child’s. Shower curtain was stained and grungy.
