This was our fifth time staying at the Hotel Santa Ana. It is a truly charming hotel. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxing. It has a lovely courtyard with a small pool. However, it is not a luxury hotel. The furnishings are simple. The WiFi can be spotty. There is no elevator. Still, it is one of my absolute favorites. I look forward to returning soon.

We live in Merida. We needed a conveniently located hotel with parking for New Year's Eve. We had dinners and parties located within a 6 block radius of the hotel. Our experience couldn't have been better: a friendly welcome, convenient parking, a clean, comfortable room and a very reasonable price. This is a great place to base yourself if you intend to explore Merida or the Yucatan.

Charming small hotel. Great staff. Great location. Inexpensive. Rooms are basic no-frills, but comfortable. This was my fourth stay at the Hotel Santa Ana. It is my \"go to\" place in Merida. Boutique hotel near centro

The hotel's location - between centro and Calle Montejo is perfect for walking and exploring. The staff are knowledgeable and share recommendations and directions. Wi-Fi is available and stable. The rooms are clean and basic but the towels are like sandpaper.

Restaurants are within walking distance but not in the immediate area. The onsite restaurant offers breakfast only with a limited menu.

The onsite pool was only 1/2 filled and dirty. Plants surrounding the pool give a relaxing \"jungle\" feel to the courtyard.

A one hour bus ride and you can be in Progreso at the beach. A 10 block walk puts you at the Zocolo or the Monumento a la Patria. The entire surrounding area is very walkable and safe.

Unfortunately, some guests were very noisy (talking loudly outside on the balconies) well into the night, making sleep difficult if you leave your windows open.

Nice hotel.

The service from the front desk was excellent. The cleaning people kept the room clean. The hotel is well located. The hot water worked well for showering.

I only had one issue with this hotel. On Hotels.com, it’s advertised as having an in-room safe, and that’s a main consideration when I’m booking, I require one when I’m traveling. This hotel did not have in-room safes as advertised. Please update the listing on Hotels.com. We didn’t have any issues with anything being taken, but as I indicated, I only choose rooms that have an in-room safe.

Cozy and Friendly

The Staff was extremely friendly and very courteous. There's free parking across the street which is very important! There's really no where to park in the city unless you pay for parking in a lot or take your chances in the street and get a ticket or towed. The property is extremely cozy. AC is really cold, there's a fridge. Wifi is a little spotty but cool. I would for sure come back and especially for the price.

Beds were comfortable, a/c runs perfectly, location couldn’t be better. Only complaint is phone never worked, so could not contact front desk, but it’s only a few steps away so not big deal. We got a room FULL of mosquitoes first (dead and alive) and room strongly smelled like Ride (insecticide) but they changed us to a different one immediately and second room was fine. Small fridge in room is helpful. Kitchen lady is sweet and food is tasty but not many options, but there’s tons of restaurants around...we ordered ubereats

This is a great hotel. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. As a bonus for those of us that speak only a small amount of Spanish, most of the staff speaks excellent English. The location is perfect: a block from the Santa Ana square and two from Paseo de Montejo. They even have a few parking spots. The room was just fine. It had AC and a fan, and all the basics. It was not a big room, but big enough. We did run out of hot water a few times, but it was not a big deal. The breakfast was very nice. Just a few dollars for an excellent start to the day. It is hard to beat this hotel, and for the price, impossible.

Nice location and good price but dirty

The hotel is in a good location and the cost is good. It's not a fancy and new location so you get all the things that come with that. However if rooms are not clean then it deserve s bad rating. Stains on bed sheets and stuff like that.

You get what you pay for

There is no real restaurant. They just make a few things for breakfast only. The breakfast was very good. They claim to offer free bottled water but what you get is one small bottle a day. Never had hot water day or night even after letting water run for twenty minutes. You can hear every sound in the courtyard with everything closed up. Curtains don't keep the lights out and the courtyard lights remain on all night. One bed (twin) super soft the other bed (Double/Full) was super firm. hotel staff was very friendly. Air conditioning worked great. Pretty solid three star and priced right. If you want 4 or 5 star you'll have to fork out more money.

Decent hotel within walking distance to downtown.

This is a decent hotel within walking distance to downtown. Some of the staff speak English, which was helpful for us. The room had air conditioning, however we did not realize you need to set it on the smallest number to have it on the highest setting, since that is the opposite of the United States. There is a small breakfast starting at 7am. (You pay extra for this). Overall, we were happy with our stay at this hotel.

Great people make all the difference! Front desk staff were fantastic; helped with our lack of Spanish, arranged tours, taxis, laundry service and suggested restaurants (had our best meal in Merida from their recommendations). Hotel is very central, easy walking distance to downtown and other areas. No safe in room, but belongings were secure at front desk safe. Beds were on small size, but room was comfortable, a/c worked well, and pool was refreshing. Hotel NOT as advertised - Beware!

We booked and pre-paid a ten night stay at the Hotel Santa Ana and ended up staying only three nights. Our experience was dismal. There was only one light that worked in the room and it was on the wall farthest from the door. We had to use our phones to avoid falling over something in the dark. Internet did not work in the bedroom. If we wanted internet, we had to sit in the lobby. The phone beside the bed did not work. The shower head was rusty and disgusting. Tiles were missing in the bathroom. The soap would not lather. The towels were threadbare. The mirror decorations on the wall were broken or missing. All of this was difficult but bearable (except for the internet). However, the absolute worst part of this horrible stay was when the air conditioner broke on the third night. The room was unbearably hot and sleep was not possible. We packed and left the following morning. I expected to pay for four nights since the policy was that a 24-hour notice was required for cancellation. The hotel would not refund my money and Expedia were unable to help. I stayed only for three nights but was forced to pay for ten. Do not stay at this hotel unless you want to be miserable. We have stayed at other similarly priced hotels in Merida and had a great experience. Run away from the Hotel Santa Ana!

A good home base for the walking tourist.

I picked this hotel because the package rate (airfare and lodging) was the best (I had a tight budget). Also the past reviews were good. I wanted a place close to the central plaza of Merida, with character and friendliness being more important than luxury. The (small) staff were very friendly and helpful. My room was comfortable. While the fixtures were somewhat old and funky, everything worked (very good cooling), and the cleaning people were on the job every day. Since I wasn't there to sit around in my room all day, I was perfectly happy with the accomodation. The public areas include an interior courtyard with small pool and casual seating, dining area where breakfast was available, and comfortable parlor-like furnishings where I spent time writing during the heat of the midday. The office has a refrigerator with cold drinks, and a little rack of snacks, reasonably priced, and there is always a daily paper available. The desk staff are friendly and overall have good English skills. The hotel is a half block away from a historic small plaza with its own ancient church, surrounded by businesses which are not tourist oriented but yet friendly to foreigers. It is only about ten blocks from the main city plaza, where there are many good restaurants and small shops. I spent my whole time (six days) not going beyond this area, walking everywhere and enjoying the ambience.

Wonderful hotel but with noisy roosters

We've been traveling a lot through Mexico and this was one of the best hotels we've stayed at. We extended our 2-night booking to 4 nights. The rooms are clean, the property is well-maintained, the staff is friendly and helpful. The city center is within walking distance (10-15 minutes), the neighborhood is safe, parking is across the street in a gated parking lot, we were able to drive to the beach about an hour away (Sisal beach is really pretty and isolated). You can buy breakfast at the restaurant in the lobby, which wasn't too bad. The decorations throughout the hotel are really lovely. The only thing we didn't like are the roosters and dogs in the property behind the hotel making a lot of ruckus. The nearby cathedral also sound their bells pretty early in the morning on some days which can be a nuisance if you want to sleep in. Also, the shower doesn't get too warm and sometimes the pressure completely dies. Overall though, great place to stay.

My stay at Santa Ana was extremely pleasant. The staff were all wonderful, always willing to help and serve you with a smile! -- Juan, Julian, Conchi, and Juan Pablo. It is a small hotel but is extremely quiet and clean. Each room, although not in the luxury category, is pleasant, has maid service, tv , air conditioning, wifi, small outdoor pool and a ceiling fan. Unless you want luxury, this place is for you... the price is right also. It is not far from the downtown core. .. a 10 minute walk. I will return to this hotel and recommend it to most people i know. Merida is a Mayan area full of museums, ruins, and many fascinating things to see.. all within reach of Santa Ana, either by foot or by short bus trip. There are beaches close by also. It's a very hot region!

It's a simple hotel with simple amenities, but it is one of the best places I've ever stayed , the staff is amazing and incredibly kind! If you like a quiet spot away from your typical tourist traps this is the place for you!!!

Fair price, Good Location and great staff

The cleaning personnel need to be better equiped and trained. More room maitenance is also needed. Beds are a bit too hard for my taste and there are no chairs to sit in your room but they got AC and very friendly and helpfull staff.

Very good but a long walk

Spacious well equipped (AC, TV, fan) and comfortable rooms, spotlessly clean. A good value breakfast too (pay extra). This is a good hotel. However, it's a long 8 block walk from the centre (yes I should have looked at the map properly before booking I know) which after a few times is a bit tedious. There's also some traffic noise. One of the few hotels in two months travel in Mexico where there hasn't been any complimentary water, bottled or filtered.

Affordable clean hotel

Overall a good experience staying here. Although a rooster crowed early in the morning, but it was good to be away from the busy roads. Staff were great and were able to help out in English.

The service was fantastic. Our room however was very noisy, being on the ground floor close to the stairs and the workers area. If we had been given another room I would have rated this hotel higher.

OASIS

I have stayed in a fare few accommodations through central America and Hotel Santa Ana one of the best I have come across. A very welcoming reception when I arrived by the hotel staff late in the afternoon and pool to cool off in. The place is small in comparison but for not to big is better. For location, everything you need is less than a 5 min walk.Supermarket, cafes, food stalls, aswell as tour rides from the hotel The Centro about 10mins. Thanks to Juan Carlos, Dolci, Mr Tom and the house maids for making my stay a pleasure. And the bicycle hire shop up the road.

Great value

If you tell me for 26 dollars I will give you a room that has ac clean bathroom and a pool that's great but don't tellme I am going to have a city view(it's on the first floor) cable (it worked two out of six days. They said they had a bad storm two weeks previous and the whole neighborhood was out. But gee if you looked out the front door of the hotel at the house across the street their front room you could see them watching cable every night. They had coffee every morning but no continental breakfast. Yes they had the advertised bar but it wasn't in use. There is a bus that takes you downtown for7 pesos in 20 minutes or you can catch a bus down a beautiful boulevard that has a Walmart don't go in May because it was over 100 degrees every day. The room ac was a plus. Would I stay there again- absolutely

Roosters?

The hotel is a bit farther away from city Zocalo then makes for an enjoyable walk. Crazy traffic and people everywhere in the city center. Nothing around to go eat at in the evening. No OxOx for your coffee. The staff did point out a couple of places to eat at. Did those during the day but not that comfortable of an area night. WiFi dose work in the room so that was a necessary checked off. A/C and Fan all good. But what takes away is the neighbor has 3 roosters so what can you say. His dogs bark at everyone that comes and goes on the stairs. Did not expect to have a rooster 3am wake up call in the city!

Great clean convenient friendly bargain.

Friendly small hotel far enough away from El Centro to avoid bustle yet still walkable to it. Very helpful staff and great housekeeping. For the price it's unbeatable. Breakfast available on site by two delightful young women who need a little direction but who will eventually give you all of your meal. LOL. Parking and laundry directly across street. Buses right at corner. No elevator but only 3 floors. I'll be back!

One of the worst hotels

Quite possibly the worst hotel I've ever been in. Good location, cheap, nice courtyard and nice concierge, but otherwise, this place looks like it has gone downhill since the 80's (and that no one has made any improvements since then.) There are stains on the sheets and walls, the bathroom is falling apart and looks like it could be in a prison. The worst part--the neighbors have dogs and roosters that would not stop crying and howling the whole night.

In sum, this is what I imagine a truck stop motel to be--it is clean, so do it if you have to, but you'll never want to return.

Friendly budget hotel

This is a lovely budget hotel reasonably close to the heart of Mérida. It is clean and has the loveliest, most friendly and accommodating staff.

The one and only downside to this hotel was the people behind the hotel, who keep one or more roosters, which do what roosters do starting very early (crow), and at least three dogs, who let you know when anyone walks by their domain, which people do frequently. One night someone yelled at the dogs and the people took them inside, which was much better.

If you can’t take noise, this is not the hotel for you, at least until those dogs rooster(s) are better managed. Otherwise, as a budget hotel, it’s great.

Nice hotel - good location. Rooms were adequate and beds were fairly comfortable. Problem with noise - chicken very loud they were right behind the hotel and on weekends the bells of Santa Ana rang three times Saturday evening 7:30 to 8:00 and then on Sunday three times at 7:30 to 8:00 morning and night.

Stayed for 4 nights. Met interesting people, interacted with mostly English speaking front desk staff who were extremely helpful (Dulce, Enrique, Dennys, Hi!), rooms overlook charming small pool and resonable breakfast is available at open airy tables. Walk to Centro easily, taxis and buses nearby. Paseo de Montejo is 2 blocks away and nice to walk with Sunday morning closed to vehicle traffic and farmer's market nearby.

You get what you paid for

The hotel is old but clean and has what you need, but it is right next to some kind of farm so you will hear roosters all night long. Is not a bad place to stay, but for the same price you can get something closer to the center of the city and probably less noise
