The stay at Sigiriya Village was the highlight of our Sri Lanka visit. Design by Bawa, a famous architectural family, the grounds and facilities are stunning. Entering the space, we felt instantly calm. The staff was so kind and helpful. There were elegant and beautiful massage facilities and I strongly recommend a massage. The food was delicious, the setting perfect, looking at the Lion Rock.

Review for Sigiriya Village Hotel – Sigiriya, Sri Lanka

I recently stayed at Sigiriya Village Hotel, and overall, it was a pleasant and memorable experience. The room was comfortable, and the stay itself was enjoyable. Breakfast was a highlight — fresh, tasty, and with a good variety of options. The Sri Lankan rice and curries I ordered during my stay were also delicious and full of flavour.

That said, there were a couple of maintenance issues in the room, which I have already shared directly with Krishanth and the front desk. Above the ceiling fan, the paint on the ceiling had peeled off and had fallen directly onto the bed — not ideal, and potentially unpleasant if a child or family member had been sleeping there. The bathroom tap was quite loose, and there was a strong smell coming from the toilet/basin area that could use attention.

My main disappointment was with one à la carte dinner. I waited almost an hour for my meal, and it took some time to find a staff member to check on the order. When the food arrived, there were two issues:
•The nasi goreng did not resemble or taste like nasi goreng — it was pale, lacked the typical sauce, and was flavourless.
•The Jaffna prawn curry appeared to have been made with cold-water prawns in a yellowish coconut butter, which was quite different from what I was expecting. I had anticipated at least tiger prawns (or an equivalent) in a darker, reddish, richly spiced sauce.

This is a beautiful property with spacious rooms that make you feel like you are living in a lush green space. Clean rooms, nice space to work, comfortable bed. The only small complaint I have is the internet was a little slow, video calls for work were blurry, but it worked! Breakfast buffet was really good with lots of options. Bar was pretty pricy but it was nice. The pool was also a welcome amenity after hiking. Would definitely recommend.

We stayed in that hotel for 3 nights in March 2025. The property is very nice in general. It's all surrounded by a beautiful garden which they keep very clean all the time. Exceptional stuff, very kind, professional and helpful. The lobby is like a patio with a roof so you can enjoy fresh air all the time and the amazing view of Sigiriya Lion's Rock. Delicious breakfast with tons of options. Very good location, just a few steps from the center of the town. The only down was the air in the room which was moldy and I smelled it every time I got into the room. It was spacious, clean, good mattresses but the smell killed the experience a bit.

Room was clean, spacious and comfortable.
Breakfast was plentiful and had many choices! Property is serene and feels wonderful. The view from the pool and dining area of Lions Rock is fabulous.
Many choices of restaurants in the area within 10 minutes walking. We ate a la carte dinner one night in the hotel restaurant and thought it was great - vegetable curries with rice, vegetable spring rolls and nasi goreng.
We also walked to Lions Rock and on to Pidurangala Rock - it takes about a half hour to each, so plan for a minimum 1 hour walk each way.
Overall, really liked it here. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to be close to the rock.

Sigiriya Village exceeded our expectations- for its pricing, it puts a strong foot forward to provide comfort and quality service. This is not a ‘fancy’ stay, but it was clean and the rooms were spacious. The location boasts an amazing view of Sigiriya Rock and it does not disappoint.
We had the buffet for breakfast included in our stay (which was great!).
I’d highly recommend this property for anyone wanting to climb Sigiriya Rock (location and convenience to entrances is perfect!).
The property is also excellent for group bookings (bungalow/village style) was fantastic.

Beautiful little resort - definitely recommended!

We don’t understand why there are some medium reviews about this place; it is such a beautiful eco resort, lovely surroundings, great staff, you have a view of Sigiriya Rock from the pool, there are friendly monkeys and other sorts of beautiful animals around. The staff is very polite and helpful, they arranged us a transfer for the early morning climb. The included breakfast was very extensive and delicious, the dinner is not best but not bad either. The atmosphere is lovely, so it’s worth eating there. But the village is so close, you can just walk there and eat in one of the restaurants as well, so it’s not a big issue. We definitely recommend a stay here if you’re visiting the rock!!!

The property location is magnificent with a view of Lion Rock from the pool and bar area.
The staff were friendly and accommodating though the long shifts can leave some of the team needing a rest and possibly a shower and some clean clothes!
The rooms are not new and the water pressure is not the best but overall the room served its function.

These are cottages in 25 acres of woodland. The staff are very helpful and pleasant but have trouble keeping up at busy meal times. They look tired by the end of the day!
The cottages are fine, but a bit old and rustic. There is plenty of space and they are clean. No safes, only one room key, bit noisy fans and a.c. . Really a tour stop location. Need transport as it is near nothing but Lion Rock.

With well maintained and mature grounds an open and airy reception/bar/restaurant area going onto a pool which is clean and offers midday shade Siguria village is a lovely environment to relax for a few days.
We watched troupes of Langur and macaque browsing the trees, listened to all sorts of bird calls and enjoyed to dry off after the pool with our local turtle neighbor.
The staff are well trained and attentive without being overbearing, special mention to Anjula the barman who mixes great cocktails. The breakfasts are delicious, some of the best Dahl we have had in Sri Lanka and on leaving we were wished a long and happy life by a man with a long grey beard and golden tiara. All in all a great stay.

The hotel overall was nice in general, our only bad experience was with the Restaurant captain named Bandara. He asked elderly with walking stick and wheelchair took a table far from the food counter, after I made a seriously complaint, he rearranged us to be more closer to the food counter given the restaurant was 90% empty. I recommended him for further customer service training course.

The service at the hotel was good. The hotel rooms are getting a bit tired. Unlike other hotels we stayed at, there wasn’t a safe or internet in the rooms. The internet at reception was very slow are hardly useable. We didn’t like it that the best seating in the restaurant, which was along the side by the pool, was allocated to groups. That seating had better ventilation and was lighter but you could only sit there if you were with a group. Meals and drinks were reasonably expensive.
The beds were very uncomfortable and consisted of a 5” thick foam mattress on a wooden base. My back is still sore.
There were not enough sun beds for the number of guests. I don’t know how many rooms are at the hotel but there seemed to be a lot of people staying there and there were only 20 sun beds.

--the popular dinner option is a buffet
--easy to walk to Sigiriya rock from the hotel (15-20 minute walk)
--there is no wifi in the room
--staff at the reception desk were great
--some of the other staff didn't really seem to know what they were doing. I will give an example. This is a small thing, and it's not that important, but it struck me as so strange, that I wanted to share it. The pool has deck chairs, but they are not ready for guests to lie down on them, in the sense that they don't have pads/cushions on them. You have to ask the pool boy to bring one out for you (and when you leave the pool area, he will remove it). This already is strange. Why aren't the chairs already prepared for new guests? But what I found even stranger was that you really have to ask for one. It's not enough for you to make eye contact with, and say hello to, the pool boy while you are sitting on the chair. If you want a pad, you actually have to ask him. Maybe it doesn't go without saying that sitting on a deck chair without a pad is not particularly comfortable.

This was my second time to Sigiriya village and things have gone down hill since my last one. The property is old...and you see it everywhere. The staff although friendly are just soooo slow to respond to any request. When we checked in the room did not have towels, and it took one hour to get towels (after 3 phone calls). The hotel needs a face lift... until that happens I will not be returning. Sad, because it used to be one of the best in the Sigiriya area.

Beautiful hotel facility. Loved how the rooms are done. Spacious. No WIFI in the rooms and even what they said worked at the lobby...didn't work. They had another WIFI which you only got if you asked....didn't make sense at all. Hotel staff were disappointing. Only seemed interested in serving Westerners.....One restaurant staff was outwardly rude and only stopped at manager intervention.

Lovely 1 night stay. Sigiriya Village is a perfect spot from which to see Lion Rock. Rooms are nice and comfortable and the hotel is nicely laid out with lots of outdoor space and a pool with a view of the rock.

Food was a little disappointing and did seem overpriced.

Would suggest going up the road to organise a taxi or tuk tuk - hotel prices are ridiculously marked up.

We stayed at Sigiriya Village for our final stop following a whirlwind 7 day trek around Sri Lanka. We decided to skip the climb up Lion Rock to spend a bit more time at the hotel and unwind.

The staff at the pool and bar were very nice and engaged in conversation. Check in staff and porters were also very kind and made us feel welcome. The staff also prepared three breakfast boxes for us as we needed to depart at 05:00 AM the next morning. That was a nice touch.

The rooms are a bit tired but if you're not too fussy like us, this place is actually quite nice. I'd recommend it for anyone in the area. Great view of Sigiria Rock from the pool area.

There are a lot of tour groups that come through the hotel. That can be a bit off-putting but the place clears out completely after dinner service.

We're pleased with our overall experience, thank you!

Beware- Hidden Fees and Rude Staff

I booked a double room online. Upon arrival I was told this room cannot accommodate two adults and I needed to upgrade rooms which I did.

The staff promised with this upgrade, meals would be included. Before eating I also double checked and was ensured it was inclusive of my room. When I came to check out, I found they had actually billed me for the meals.

Upon questioning the staff about these costs, the staff were very rude and acted unprofessionally, with one staffing member resorting to name calling.

Rooms themselves are average- what you will get from a budget hotel in a western country.

Please be careful with this hotel, having stayed there, I would not recommend and would urge travellers to seek elsewhere and book this as a last resort.

Sigiriya village ia a beautiful spot with friendly helpful staff. Our only disappointment was the food which we found overpriced and of lesser quality than what we had experienced elsewhere in Sri Lanka. As vegetarians we would strongly recommend avoiding the buffet dinner as the a la Carte proved greater value for money and was tastier and hot! Otherwise I would recommend this hotel and its great location.

This hotel was one our favourite during our Sri Lankan holiday. The grounds were gorgeous. The restaurant and main area were beautiful. The staff and their service were fantastic. We appreciated the friendly smiles and ease of the place. The food buffets were outstanding. We were also close to the rock and the views from the hotel were awesome.

A fantastic and relaxing stay

After living with a Sri Lankan family for over a week in a house where all noises and sounds could be heard, this was the perfect place to travel and just relax without anyone disturbing you. The personel was great, the food was very tasty and the view from the pool where Sigiriya rises over the tree tops was just fantastic. The room/cottage was super clean and we had a really comfortable stay.

Worth the money

The hotel was worth the money we paid. It was close to Sigiriya rock (across the pond actually) and we found the staff helpful and polite. The room was not the cleanest we'd ever seen but for the money and location it's really not an issue. The dinner buffet was great as was breakfast. We didn't use the pool though it looked fine. I would recommend this hotel when visiting the area.

Wonderful staff, pleasant vacation!

The staff were very accommodating and put on a spirited NYE 2013 programme for guests to mark the occasion. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast buffet selection was delectable. The hotel is situated in a great location with a view of Sigiriya itself.

Great place to chill after climbing Sigiriya rock!

We had a good two night stay here. Despite some confusion amongst the staff about whether we were full board or half board which led to us having to deal with three different levels of management, it was sorted in the end and the rest of our stay was smooth. Some of the staff went the extra mile and it was lovely to interact with them. Well maintained estate and rooms, well stocked bar and food variety was very good. Will definitely like to go back again.

Das Personal war sehr zuvorkommend. Die Zimmer schon ein bisschen in die Jahre gekommen, aber sauber. Die Lage ist perfekt für den Besuch des Löwenfelsens.

Beautiful but crowded place

Sigiriya Village is a beautiful place with a splendid view. The rooms are spacious and well equipped. However, the hotel is very large with many guests, which could feel a bit overwhelming, and the breakfast was rather average

あの場所にあるからあの設備でや清潔感で大満足！
シーギリヤロックをバックにプールなどロケーションは最高だった。
シャワーが壊れていたが、直ぐに修理もしてくれた。
バスタブが無いのが残念だが、しょうがない。
シーギリヤロックに朝1番に登って、その後の朝食からのプールでクールダウンも最高でした。

It was great stay my first day in Sri Lanka.Cottage type room are very quite and calm. Around my room are many peacock and other birds. When we reach at hotel’s pool side, we can see great Sea Sigiriya Rock.Very comfortable hotel!

Wir haben einen Nacht im Hotel verbracht. Die Beschreibung passt, es ist sauber und das Personal freundlich. Die Lage ist ruhig und Restaurants fußläufig erreichbar, Sehenswürdigkeiten etwas entfernt. Die Anlage ist älter aber gepflegt, Frühstück reichhaltig und Landes-typisch.

Endroit très paisible, personnelle agréable et piscine avec superbe vue sur le lion’s rocks. Mon bungalow n’étais pas vraiment au goût du jour sur la deco mais le confort y étais !
