The location was perfect - just outside the gate! The grounds were immaculate, with views you couldn't believe. Animals right from your dinner! The food was excellent - I couldn't believe how good given it was buffet style! I would definitely stay here again!!

Location is one of the only things going for this lodge. It’s just by the gate to get into Sossusvlei.

Staff are rude and inattentive. You get allocated a table for dinner but difficult to get attention to order drinks or to clear away your plates. It’s all buffet service so plenty of choice. They cater for bus loads of groups and not individuals.

Found the bar staff rude and dismissive.

Lunch options are poor, and you can’t order an à la carte lunch till after 2.30 and then limited options. We ended going to the garage a short walk away.

The property was very average and not worth the money.
On the up side, Assistant F&B Manager, Benny Amutenya really tried hard to make amends to the lack of empathy for my food intolerances, which had been flagged twice prior to our stay. He was very apologetic and acknowledged. Thank you Benny.

We had a very nice stay overall. Our chalet was spacious with an amazing desert & mountain view. We opted in for full board and food was great with plenty of choice. A bit weirdly, we had fish which was fresh and well prepared (couldn't say the same for all the places we stayed at in Namibia, even of others were by the ocean). Finally, the property's location is very good for visiting Sossusvlei - right at the park's great, not and hour drive away like many others.

I came to Namibia to photograph the country, especially Deadvlei. I traveled 1000 miles in a 4x4 truck and I travel spontaneously without a strict itinerary. I needed a hotel to stay near the entrance to Namibi Naukluft Park and Sossuvlei Lodge was perfect!! It is located a 3-minute drive from the park entrance. It was perfect. While staying at the lodge, I was able to find dark space back behind my room and get incredible photos of the stars and the Milky Way. The lodge is beautiful and luxurious. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast and dinner were top-notched and included such interesting and delicious foods. I didn't realized until I checked out that this lodge is considered one of the best in the world! I whole-heartedly recommend Sossuvlei Lodge!

Well run, good location

We stayed two nights at Sossuvlei Lodge - as it is a perfect jumping off point into the national park. This location worked well for their organised morning tour (which eas good) and a self-guided trip to Sesriem Canyon.
The lodge is larger and more busy than many other in Namibia (because of the location) so be prepared for a lot of people and Western style busy dinner buffet.
The lodge is unbounded to the desert which is nice for seeing Oryx come wandering nearby.
Our room was large, but the bathroom oddly hot with a strange smell.
Overall, the place was what we wanted so we we're pleased with our stay.

We had an amazing stay! Room 145 with the little pool was stunning! We used the pool everyday. The room is super spacious, beautifully decorated, every detail is perfect. The food was very good with a big variety to choose from. We took one of their activity flights to see an aerial view, highly recommend it!

This property was decent and clean and very close to the dunes entry area. Our unit was a bit of a walk away from the parking area so that was a challenge. Also, there is no wifi in the rooms (really no wifi in all of the area). You had to go to the restaurant or bar area to get wifi and that was very frustrating. I could not even make phone calls from my room without a wifi connection. I think this information should be made known ahead of time so people can prepare for that situation.

One of the best safari lodges that I have been to. Rooms are fantastic, food and service all very very good and the safari tours from the lodge one of the very best. A great place and would highly recommed it. I drove a Sedan vehicle from Walvis Bay, the road is hectic and whilst you get to see some magic places along the way, I would rather fly, there is an airport very close to the lodge.

Does this place have a health hazard ?

Good location close to entrance to national park.But our riom was infested with mosquitos; no nets or other protective measures; we got very little sleep due to constant buzzing around our heads; without exaggeration, by morning my wife had over 100 bites, I had 40. We complained but reception staff just shrugged, 'Oh, mosquitos..........'( this in an area of potential malaria risk )

Disadvantages: very early check out time (10 am). Very short lunch menu. No access to the national park before sunrise and you can’t return to the hotel from dunes after sunset.

This is a really good option if you want to see the Sossusvlei and don't want to self-cater. The rooms are excellent, as are the tour services (spectacular morning trip to Sossusveli and Deadvlei!). The food is good, but not great. All in all, a good option.

The staff were outstandingly professional and friendly and that was everyone we interacted with. The rooms are clean, spacious and totally luxurious. The location is ideal, just 500m from the park gate.

The food is spectacular, 8 different game meats and all the regular meats all cooked to order in front of you on the open air grill. Add that to the stir fry grill and the fish grill and you can’t beat it. All served outside after watching an amazing Namibian sunset.

Oryx often wandered close by as you sat an gazed out at the desert. My daughter didn’t want to leave.

Five stars out of five for Sossusvlei Lodge.

This was definitely my favourite place to stay at in Namibia! The lodge is right at the gate to the park. I stayed in a superior room at the very front line meaning I had a great view. The room is very spacious with a fridge, safe and AC. The bathroom has both a shower and bath. The hotel grounds are beautiful and the swimming pool has an amazing view.

The breakfast and dinner were included in the booking and is all buffet style. With an outdoor grill with a range of game meat as well as vegetarian and fish options. Food was ok I’ve had better.

The staff are great and very friendly. We done the Sossusvlei tour and our guide Johanas was great! Definitely worth it! I regret not staying here longer to enjoy the bliss and the sun!

We LOVED Sossusvlei Lodge! It's so close to the gates of Sessriem, so we were able to be the third car in line to drive to see the spectacular Deadvlei in the morning and the Lodge itself is such a gem in the desert! We loved our room - the bathroom is huge and the bed is very comfortable. We really enjoyed the gorgeous food in the beautiful outdoor setting in the evening, too - creating your own stir fry at night and scrambled eggs in the morning is a real treat out in the middle of Namibia!

A pearl in the Namibia Land Sea desert

We stayed here as a family on the way to Swakopmund in Namibia after driving from Cape Town. The local dunes are one of the wonders of the world and this Lodge isn't far behind.

We stayed for two nights and while it's hot during the day, the pool cools any reddening body and the rooms that look out on the desert are amazing.

I spend one night alone just sitting looking out on the moonlit desert, listening to the sounds of birds and animals, exhausted by climbing dunes, but with a buoyant soul. Absolutely wonderful place... and the buffet food in the evening is awesome. I ate springbok, zebra and eland... and I rarely eat red meat.

Overpriced and over-rated

This was a poor choice of hotel. We chose it because of previous ratings and location. The location was good and so was the food. However the rooms did not meet expectation by far! The staff were surly and generally lacked the courtesy and customer service expected from a hotel charging high prices, as this does. The hotel desperately needs a refurbishment (which I believe is planned in the very near future). That should make a big difference. If improved staff training is added to this then there is definite hope for this hotel.

Ideal location on the gateway to the park. I was considering staying at Le Mirage but i'm glad I didn't as another 20km on those dirt roads would have been troublesome. The WIFI was very in and out but it was possible to get some signal during the night if your room was close to reception. The tent (i.e your bedroom) could be noisy at night due to the winds blowing the zips but you soon get use to it. Overall the room was good being self contained but the price was large considering there is no fridge or TV. The food however was excellent and I really enjoyed having the meals outside facing the incredible views!

Very nice lodge with a wonderful location for exploring Sossusvlei. Dinner was incredible but the breakfast is average. My only issues were that the room was quite dark (and the desk lamp didn't work at all) and that the lodge is big relative to other ones in Namibia, making the experience somewhat impersonal.

Great location in middle of desert

We enjoyed our stay in this place which has a lot of charm and a great location in the middle of the savannah with uninterrupted views of the wildernesses. Conveniently located for access to Sossulvei park. It was not as luxurious as we expected from the pictures, but you have to look at it in context of where it is, and taking this into account it is a good standard. Staff were erratic, however, with some friendly, smiling and charming and others less so. Our main gripe was they had lost our reservation when we arrived (their fault) and this matter was not handled well by receptionist who tried to make out it was our fault and at one time seemed not to be willing to put us up. Not what you want after a 6 hour drive through the desert to the middle of nowhere and this caused some stress. Fortunately they eventually found us a room and I managed to resolve the lost reservation through hotels.com the next day. Although the manager did apologise for their error, some gesture from them by way of an apology would have been welcome and should have I believe been forthcoming in the circumstances.

After this though, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this peaceful wilderness location. Dinner buffet under the stars was also very good, but wrap up warm at night.

Enjoyed our stay. Adventure Center staff and guide (Enos) were excellent. Room was ready for our 9AM check-in. A/C didn't work when we got into our room but was fixed once reported. Minor inconvenience. Food was good and setting was excellent. Biggest complaint was lack of electrical plugs in the room and no face cloths with the towel sets.

Great lodge at entrance to Sossusvlei Park

We arrived at the lodge after a long drive over a good gravel road. A cold face cloth and refreshing drink greeted us on arrival and we were soon taken to our tented chalet. Despite the heat, the air-conditioned tented bedroom area cooled us down. We could never have anticipated the veritable feast provided for dinner on that first evening; an incredible variety of meat and fish as well as a stir-fry if desired, was accompanied by many different vegetables. All of this after a well-laid out 'starter' table and finished off with an array of desserts. We enjoyed a guided tour into Sossusvlei with a walk to Deadvlei in the morning and in the evening took advantage of the Sunset Drive. We saw little game, but did see bushmen paintings, but the view of the sunset from our viewpoint amongst the red sandstone hills was terrific. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

nice rooms though a bit dark, especially with the windows zipped up which needed to happen to get the a/c to be effective. Location great right outside the gates to the park. Good selection of food at dinner though breakfast seemed to be similar offerings from the night before. Staff friendly enough but definitely could have been more helpful/enthusiastic about what activities were available. They seemed to want to push us towards all the pay activities and not as informative about what we could do on our own.

Lost reservation upon arrival, toilet did not flush, shower did not drain, tent roof broken and in need of repair. No water bottles in the room, no wifi etc. For the cost of the room the value was lacking. Dinners were fine. Front desk staff very unfriendly the rest of the staff were very nice.

Best buffet in Namibia!

Would definitely recommend this hotel - beautiful location, right outside the national park, and everything has been designed really well to fit in with the surroundings but with maximum comfort. The buffet was amazing, especially considering how remote the location is - fantastic BBQ with about 15 different types of meat on offer, loads of fresh fruit, salad, pasta, soups, desserts galore - the list goes on and on. Breakfast and lunch fantastic too - we don't usually book full board but were delighted we did on this occasion.

accommodation in the Namibian dessert

A great place to spend a few nights in, in order to explore the area. Great food ranging from the bizarre to the exotic (Zebra steaks, Eland, Warthog etc). Rooms excellent with views over the waterhole. Excursions expensive so can save money by going direct to agencies, but overall a great place to be (except when it's overrun with Germans)!
