The cultural classes and location made this location shine. It was wonderful to get to experience Hawaiian culture through the free classes. The location of the resort on the west side of the island and on the beach made for amazing sunset views every night. Loved that they had live music every evening at the brewery on site, but had a firm cutoff time of 10 pm so as not to disturb guests too late with the music.

The breakfast vouchers were good for the Maui brewery on site, and definitely worth it at $30/per person per day. You’d easily go higher than $30/person for breakfast each day if you just did à la carte. Also, if you have morning activities planned and won’t make breakfast one day but paid for the breakfast each day of your stay, you can let them know the day before you’ll miss breakfast and they’ll let you order a packed breakfast/lunch that you can pick up at the front desk on your way out as you leave for your activity.

Would highly recommend bringing extra towels and a light portable beach umbrella. They also sell this stuff at a ABC within walking distance of the hotel. Cost to rent chairs + umbrella on the beach through the hotel was $85 per day, which was a little steep for what my husband and I budgeted for our stay.

Otherwise, all in all a fantastic, relaxing experience in a wonderful location and with great exposure to local history and culture through classes. Would definitely book again.

The only negative is they seem to be charging excessive fees for everything. e.g. we ate at the hotel restaurant and were charged a kitchen fee because we ordered food. Never heard of or paid a kitchen fee on top of your meal price. Several other fees came up at checkout.

My only complaint would have to be that with a resort fee of $45 a day having to pay an additional $85 for two chairs and an umbrella seemed a little bit ridiculous. That should have been included within the resort fee. Otherwise it was a great stay. The staff are all so super friendly

LOVED OUR STAY!!! From the second we arrived to the minute we (sadly) left, the staff was so friendly and hospitable. Grounds are beautiful. Beach access is so convenient and you can rent loungers for the day. Location is so awesome. It’s maybe a 3 minute walk over to whalers village.

If you enjoy nice things, don’t try to save a few bucks by staying here: you’ll pay that saved money in parking & resort fees anyways. A LOT of kids in the snorkeling area by black rock - not a complaint, just an observation. Hotel grounds are ok - outdated & mildew smelling (however a lot of Hawaii hotels are… it’s surrounded by water). Hotel room was ok. Got the job done, very close to whalers village.. nice 5-10 min walk.. that being said it makes the area very busy. Hotel employees are good, service is nothing extraordinary. Wouldn’t stay again. The reviews made me think it was going to be wonderful.. Hawaii is ALWAYS wonderful, the hotel was ok. Wouldn’t stay again. Stayed in a double queen partial ocean view.. if I had to stay again, I’d get a full ocean view.

The hotel was okay. I would not choose to stay here again. The cultural activities were supposed to be good but we preferred seeing the island. Renting chairs for the beach was inconvenient and they don’t offer half day rentals just a flat $85 fee. The pool was cold, small and drab. The coffee and fridge are located in the bathroom which seemed unsanitary and was inconvenient when traveling with multiple people. Our sink didn’t drain properly and the toilet would make funny noises. The hotel overall felt very dated. Staff were friendly for the most part.

If you want scars all over your face and body, this is the place for you! If not then keep looking. I woke up with 30 mosquito bites all over my body and my concerns were shrugged off with very rude staff. Stay elsewhere because if anything goes wrong here you’ll be belittled and be alone.

4th trip to the Outrigger. Such a beautiful spot. Peaceful. Rich with culture and the staff makes you feel like you’re at home. Ideal location literally between black rock and Whalers village
Ideal for couples. Minimal children. We always spend a little more and stay in the ocean front room. Worth it! Maui Brewing Company restaurant is on site. Good breakfast.
For lunch and dinner we highly recommend Leilani’s beach bar at Whalers Village. Best Fish Taco on the island. Best Mai Tai too. But see for yourself. Go on a fish taco Mai Tai Hunt. For dinner we always go back to Leilani’s (upstairs)
Hula Grill is good too. Both are owned by the same company. Monkey pod is my least favorite

Our room was one on the very end of the building -- which means it was one of the larger ones overlooking the courtyard. We found our room quite large which made the king sized bed look small. Being on the third floor we had a wonderful view of a Hawaiian tree -- lovely. We enjoyed the variety of bird that popped up to our terrace including two types of Cardinals. The room was very clean and pest-free.
Our issues with this room were: 1. One-Ply toilet tissue and no Hand Bidet. Many people have hand bidets in their homes and going to a vacation property without diminishes the vacation. If the company wants to save on toilet paper, put in Bidets and bring back the two-ply.
Our air-con constantly error coded and overran. We were very cold. It depends upon a sealed space, yet management failed to see the massive gap beneath the main door. Fix the weather strip 332.
The table and two chairs inside were located directly in the path of the air-con flow. There was no light over that area, so it was absolutely useless for reading/writing.
As usual, so many hotels in the world seldom have enough places to hang towels to dry. Our room had one hook and the towel never really dried out.
I hate Keurigs. So wasteful and there were only two cups provided for two people. Would have preferred a hotpot for tea or instant or pour-over.
Staff were very nice. They actually appreciated our presence.
I really wished there was more social space for people to mingle like a basic bar.

We were very pleased that our room was ready early. We valet parked which was coordinated at the front desk and not by the valet. I think it’s awkward.
Check in was slow. We upgraded online but were surprised by the room taxes. Probably 40% more than advertised rate.
Issued wristbands which we like but weren’t told we needed to wave then at what looked like a vacant light switch. I’ve used cards before but we figured it out.
Room was nice. Just above the beach area.
The next morning their restaurant wasn’t open until 7 for coffee. Anyone from the mainland has been up for hours. Yes a Kuirig in room but powdered cream. Yuck.
The evening we checked in there was a line maybe 6 groups of various sizes. A bar was just inside the door. We eat often in bar areas as there’s first come self seating. The bartender said we have to be seated.
5 minutes later 3 women walked in and were allowed to sit at the bar. Yes that wa upsetting. 15 minutes later we were seating. Dinner at Maui being was good.
Won’t be back again. Sorry.

My experience at the resort was phenomenal! The staff are helpful and the amenities on and right next to the property are perfect. Less than a 2 minute walk from my door to the beach, 5 minute walk to Whaler’s Village. They offer tons of great activities, however you do need to reserve a spot for some of them so make sure to check.

Everyone was nice and helpful, couldn’t have asked for a better time.

The resort was close to the ocean. There is a beach walk that connects the hotels, restaurants and shopping. The staff was friendly and the grounds were well kept. Tiki torches were lit at night. The only negative my husband and I had was the pool area. There is no shade and the sun can be brutal. There are no umbrellas available. Also the pool looked a bit worn.

Expect to be nickel and dimed for resort fees and parking but get little value in return. A good hotel at best but by no means a resort warranting fees. You will find better value at the Whaler Resort.

My husband and I came here for our honeymoon. We put that in the reservation when booking and when we arrived we received nothing not even an acknowledgment that is why we were there. We’ve stayed at the Outrigger on Waikiki Beach in Oahu 20+ times and we have to say this experience of the Outrigger of Kaanapali beach was extremely disappointing. The staff was not friendly or helpful. We were able to check in right away at Waikiki beach but here they would not let us. We had to wait 2 hours for our room to get ready. The bathroom of our premium king bed was very small. The view of our room was good though. We had a red eye flight on our last day so we had 10 hours to spare and it was the first day the sun had finally came out on our stay. We asked if they had late checkout or if the had a hospitality room for us to use after checkout so we could go to the beach and then shower and leave they said that we are welcome to change in their bathrooms and use the showers by the beach. Not helpful at all. Not to mention you walk any direction and the facility’s of these other hotels look well kept and up to date. The pool at this outrigger was disgusting. The water was murky and hadn’t looked cleaned in a very long time we tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and blame the rain but when we walked to any resort down the road their pools were gorgeous and looked clean. For the price of this hotel we were extremely let down by the all around hospitality.

The hotel is run down, the pool looks as though it has not had any maintenance for a long time and is tired, there are very few sun loungers for the amount of guest, the onsite restaurant is understaffed, expect wait times of more than 30mins for breakfast. The beach loungers and cabanas are worn and costly. Oue exec suite was average and only had a partial view of the sea. Wouldn't stay here again

Getting an umbrella or chair to enjoy the beach was near impossible. A third party handles all beach rentals and activities. They are serving the general public and guests of other hotels as well as Kaanapali Beach Resort. This meant by 9:00am all rentals were taken for the day. If you wanted to enjoy the pool there was zero shade. If you're coming to Hawaii to enjoy the water, this is NOT the hotel to stay at.

The hotel is older but its clean and nice. The people are friendly. I love watching the ocean from our lanai in the morning. The location is amazing. Close to black rock for snorkeling and whalers village for shopping and restaurants. It was a 4 minute walk to whalers village and about 4 minutes to blackrock. The beach is amazing. This really is one of the best beaches in the world. The Ohana pickleball club is a few minutes from the resort which was a plush. The vallet crew were very friendly. Especially enjoyed my interactions with Ron. I would stay here again. I really enjoyed the fresh fruit cup and the banana bread from the little store they have at the hotel.
