A nice tourist hotel. We had a lovely 1 bedroom suite. My only concern was the lack of clarity relating to its location relative to the beaches. It is at least a 10 to 15 minute drive and parking down by the beach and tourist zone is sporting. Also, the in redible steepness of the property would likely be challenging for anyone with mobility issues. The do have a golf cart that can be utilized for getting up and down. The view from this place are strumming and many good restaurants are very close. I do recommend.

We stayed at the property mid may, the staff are really friendly and smartly dressed. Breakfast was in with our booking and there was lots of choice to cater for everybody, all very fresh and well presented, the grounds are well looked after, the bed was really comfy and the view was spectacular. We will deffinately book to stay again. lovely hotel

High up in the hills in one of 3 adorable villages we have found our perfect home away from home in beautiful Crete! A comfortable, clean suite with everything we needed for our 3rd stay at Amazones Village Suites with delicious breakfast, fun filled party/BBQ nights, an awesome pool and bar and last but not least the excellent staff made this another very memorable trip. Spacious villas, clean and in a good location (above the narrow streets of the village with safe, easy parking). Great views and a pool. Very casual and comfortable atmosphere, they made us feel like family. Bartender Nikos was fun, kind and helpful, as was everyone we encountered. Food was excellent both at the hotel and across the island in general.
A beautiful Cretian experience!

Paradise!

This place is amazing! Everything is as one would expect, staff really makes the atmosphere extraordinary.

The only downside was the location. The hotel is situated quite high on the hill and if one is on foot, it takes quite a bit of stamina to do the climb. However because of it, the view is absolutely incredible!

You made us feel at home, thank you!

Not worth the money at all.

Wonder how Expedia charged us soo much for a full board. I specifically mentioned that we are pure vegeterians...while Expedia team assured that they cater all types of food.
We starved without proper food... Eating just bread, butter and potatoes.... For 6 days!
It was mentioned near the beach, but it was a very steep hill to climb of 2 km while getting to the hotel.
No options for food, standard breakfast with tinned fruits and tinned juices.
Expedia looted us for air fare too.
We will never ever contact Expedia again... Wrong information, wrong hotel and exorbitant fares.
Extremely disappointed.

Up a very steep hill with great views

Hotel was clean and the staff friendly and helpful. But the hotel a bit on the tatty side. No ice cube tray.No where to hang wet items outside. Sheets on the bed all frayed. Curtains in bedroom about 1/2 a meter dragging on the floor and hanging off the rail at the top. Bathroom very dark a very high bath to step into to get a shower that meant my husband was touching the roof that was full of mould. I was also scarred of slipping as nothing to hold onto on getting out of the shower.
Poll area needs attention decking very old umbrellas need a 6\" nail to keep them up not enough sunbeds at times.

Do not book annex rooms.

The real hotel and staff were lovely but we booked a room in an Annex building which was a 2-3minute walk away not beside the actual hotel. You had to go through a small part of the town. It had no Wi-Fi and no hot water for the first few days until I mentioned it to the staff. I stepped on a small piece of glass in my room which was not from us since we did not break anything so makes me wonder how often they even sweep or clean the floor. Very noisy we could hear all the water from all the other rooms. If I book there again I would not stay in the annex rooms.

Only stayed 1 night as a stopover due to late night flight and we were travelling to the south of the island.

Great place - lovely staff, very friendly. We didn't arrive until around midnight (problems with flight delay) but they had saved us some food (as we had paid half board). Although we didn't experiencing it, the pool looked very inviting.

Would definitely recommend for a longer stay.

This is a great place and we had a lovely family holiday here. All the staff were great! They were super helpful, worked with dietary restrictions, helped us get taxis and plan trips, and made our stay very pleasant. Nikita, Nikos, and George were particularly helpful in welcoming us and taking care of our needs. Our rooms were lovely (each had an air conditioner which made sleeping pleasant), clean, and well-furnished and the facilities are pleasant and welcoming. The grounds are lovely and all the plants and trees are very well managed, my favorite was the grape vines growing on some of the terraces of the rooms we were in. Our group went for the half board option since we had grandparents along and having dinner at the hotel each day was most convenient for them. If I was to visit again, I would go for just bed and breakfast, since there are lots of nice restaurants nearby and trying out various types of delicious Greek food for lunch was great and doing so at dinner to get more options would have been nice, and you can always opt to let the staff know and eat dinner at the hotel if you want. We had a lovely time here and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to visit Crete!

Fantastic staff - excellent location

We booked 2 nights in this hotel for our wedding anniversary. My husband had asked for the staff to help find us some places to go near by and also if they could bring us some sparkling wine on our anniversary. The staff couldn't have been more helpful with a special thanks to George who was especially helpful. We had a junior suite overlooking the pool and the glorious view. The room was spacious, clean and all the basics were provided. The hotel is a few minutes walk away from lots of lovely restaurants. We continued to walk and found a wide variety of restaurants and gift shops. Overall a fantastic place to stay and we will definitely be returning.

Best view mountain hotel .

Beautiful view from the pool and some of the rooms. It's pretty far from the beach but it's on a gorgeous mountain that's light up at nights and the energy is amazing.
The staff is super friendly and helpful.
The village around the hotel is full of great restaurants.
Be prepare to clime hills and steps, which I loved.

Surly need a car, from bus stop to(1hour), airport to(30min) , port to(35min) hotel was very far.
Wifi use only bar & pool, have no room, some room to bar little bit far. I think high -level trick of the trade to be used in a bar. So I was in my room I have to meditation ~there was a Buhda & Zen( medtation) picture on the wall. But they have good swimming pool (deep 2m90). 2 hours more before check out, they changing goods put in the room during I have breakfast, so I go out check out before 2 hours, very very unhappy.

We loved our 2nd visit to Amazones Village Suites!

This was our second visit to this gorgeous hotel in the hills above Hersonissos in the middle of 3 adorable villages where you will find absolutely everything you need for a fun and relaxing vacation. Everything was as we remembered and even better. From the minute we arrived we felt like we were coming home and treated as if we were family with great big smiles and a wonderful warm welcome. Thank you for an amazing two weeks Caterina and George and staff, Niko, Nikita, Anna and Kim, you made our return to Crete and the Amazones a dream come true and we will be back again! Delicious breakfasts...we are especially missing the yoghurt, fruit and honey...and the very comfortable room and bed made for good restful sleeps that gave us energy for exploring the beautiful island. Crete is full of history, beautiful mountains and scenery and so many amazing beaches, it truly is a hidden gem of travel!

Its a small family run apartment complex in a very nice location. The apartment is clean and spacious and perfect for a holiday in a hot climate. Sadly, the wifi did not reach the apartment we stayed in but it works OK by the pool and bar! Fantastic value and fantastic friendly, helpful service from all the staff. I will definitely want to stay here again...and again..and again!

DO NOT BOOK THE JUNIOR SUITES!!!!!

On first impression I was extremely pleased as I walked in to check in. A nice lad was then called to take us to our room. Well the juior suites are about a 7-8 minute walk (longer returning as it is uphill) from the main and supremely nicer part of the complex. Garden view....... is a car park next to an empty swimming pool and some run down bar and reception area. Woke up after our first night..... no hot water so a very cold shower was taken. I went to reception next day and pointed out that these things did not match the brochure (as well as the fact that they say there is wifi in every room which is untrue). The response I had was that I had 'booked room only'. I pointed out that room only should mean hot water at least and that I did not require food provided. The reply was that I could buy breakfast for 5 euros if I wanted. I had no option but to laugh at all this really. In the end she promised we could move to the main complex in two days. I went back and spoke to the same woman two days later to make the arrangements and she claimed she couldn't remember and said there were no rooms available.
I have stayed in other parts of the island in 2 and 3 star accomodation which are far better than this poor excuse of a hotel. I will never return and strongly advise that the so called 4 star rating this has , is reviewed. It might apply to the main part of the hotel, but certainly not to the Garden suites.

Great hotel

This is a very nice, well run hotel. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive to the needs of guests. The location offers a very nice view and there are many grocery and eating options in the little village within a 5 minute walk. Walking down into town (waterfront, beach, more shops, buses to other cities) is fine but the walk back up the hill is not really feasible for most people. Unfortunately there is no public transport up the hill from the town. Taxis are 6 or 7 euros. A car rental is really helpful to have if staying here and you want to get out and see more of the island - at least for part of your stay.

We would definitely recommend staying at this hotel. The rooms were clean, spacious, luxurious, very comfortable and there was an outdoor balcony with a lounger. The 1/2 board was completely worth the price. It was delicious! The service was quick and friendly. They worked really hard to make sure everything was in excellent condition.
It was slightly difficult to find and the wifi was only around the lobby/pool area when we stayed but everything, I mean everything else about this place was spectacular. Who needs wifi anyway when you're staying in paradise? Once you know where to find the place, it's not hard to find again.

I was so nervous by some trip adviser reviews but had no reason to its a beautiful hotel with a wonderful fresh breakfast each day ... had room h1 and had panoramic veiw of the sea in front In the back we overlooked zues mountain with nesting golden Eagles .... very friendly staff and room spotlessly cleaned each day by the nicest of ladies ... all in all a fantastic holiday ... we'll be back!

Far from the beach and few facilities

I booked this for a quiet holiday with a pool to swim in every day. I got the quiet but the pool was empty and so the next best thing was the beach, the closest nice beach was a 2.5km walk down the hill.

Breakfast was ok but not high quality. The staff were nice and friendly but this is typical of Crete, I wouldn't say they were exceptional.

My apartment was fine, spacious and comfortable but Piskopiano did feel far from everything.

View is beautiful. Internet is only in the hotel lobby, not open 24 hours. Not attached to rooms. Major ant problem in the room. Hotel is located about 25 minutes walk up a steep hill from the beach. Taxi's are 7 Euro just to go up the hill. No water in the pool in Mid April. The end of most people's Spring Break. Meals are 15 Euro each, even for breakfast. Very expensive if you are on a budget. Amenities falsely advertised. No blackout curtains, no bath tub, no cable channels on the tv. Overall, a disappointing trip.

Peace and tranquility at The Amazones Village Suit

The Amazones Villages Suites are simply Fantastic. We had an absolutely superb time. All the staff were so friendly, courteous and catered for our every need. We stayed in a junior suite for two (E6 OKYALE). Lovely suite, plenty of room and very clean as rooms are cleaned daily. We had a patio area with table and chairs as part of the suite to chill out and relax. There is a lovely clean swimming pool with bar and seating area and the suites have a mountain backdrop up on the hill. The view from the pool area can only be described as stunning and although there is a hill to get to the village suites it is well worth it to see the views every day. The food was great and plenty on the menu to choose from. We had a very relaxed and unforgettable stay.

Quiet location but very convenient

Hotel room was spacious and everything worked, though some of the fittings were tired. The previous occupier had clearly been smoking. Excellent location if you want to be near lots of Tavernas but not actually among them. Finding the hotel location was challenging in the dark. Very friendly staff and good breakfast outside by the pool overlooking the bay. 25 mins (downhill) walk to the sea. Our room was very close to the bar, but not particularly noisy (even during the world cup).

A place to stay clear of, very dissapointing

Very disappointed, the food was poor at dinner time there was a buffet with a poor selection of food and it was not of a good standard, at breakfast the cereal was stale, not a good selection and the coffee machine not working properly unable to have a cappuccino. Bed was uncomfortable with springs sticking into you when you laid on the bed, so uncomfortable that is difficult to sleep. We were told the hotel was only a 15 minute walk to town, not true as we checked out the next morning and took a taxi to town, the taxi took at least 15 minutes to drive down the hill to town and he laughed when we told him we were advised it would only take 15 minutes to walk to town, the other is you had to get back uphill to the hotel. Overall a very disappointing experience, the worst hotel we have stayed in on our current holiday of 27 days so far

Amazons Village Piskopiano Crete

Arrived at Amazones, very hard to find, signage very poor, was told that they were booked out and were sending me to another hotel. After I had booked this hotel with Expedia I read some reviews, not good, overbookings etc, so when I get there and it happens to me, not at all happy, they sent me to Astra Village, which I was happier with anyway as they were in the heart of the village, Amazones is out of town, I get to Astra, they put into a room for one night, had to move the next day to another room, cause that room was booked out. My entire stay on Crete was 4 nights. All well, thought I had my last three nights in this room, I booked a full day trip to Santorini, left 7,45am arrived back 10pm to find my room emptied and all my stuff gone, called reception, no you were only booked in for 3 nights, the lady at Amazones new this apparently and no one told me, so they packed up all my stuff and put it in reception, they were very nice, it was not their fault, now it was 10.30pm and now being sent to another hotel for my last night, had to find my way, directions were poor once again, but it was really only down the road, couldn't find it as was told wrong directions, so went back upto Amazones to let them know I was not at all happy, as they blamed Expedia for the overbooking problem, when i get there, here is another couple being told the same thing and being sent to the same hotel that I was now going to - what a joke - this experience ruined my holiday

Looking forward to next year already

This was our fifth year at Amazones. It just keeps getting better and better.

We love it here. It ticks all the boxes. I have stayed in a lot of hotels all over Greece and this is by fat my favourite.

The staff are fantastic. Caterina does a great job. Dimitris, Dizianna and Nikos are all wonderful. So attentive and hard working. They go beyond what is expected to ensure a great holiday. We miss Nikos already and have only been back a week. Brilliant bartender/host and a lovely man.

I don't know the names of the other staff, but the lady who covers breakfast and the cleaning lady also deserve a mention. Breakfast is constantly topped up and tables were cleared for two hours from 8.30 - 10.30. Nice start to the day. It is unusual to get a breakfast like this included in Greek hotels/apartments. The cleaner comes in daily (except Sunday) and makes the bed, cleans the kitchen and bathroom and changes the towels etc. She works so hard and really deserves a mention.

We will definitely be coming back next year for our sixth visit. We are made to feel so welcome and at home. It is a perfect location for a well needed break come September.

Great hotel for couples!

This hotel was lovely. We had a really great holiday here. We have two children ages 6 and 22 months and we were worried about whether it would be suitable for the 22 month old etc. The staff were great - George is as nice and helpful as all the reviews say and Dissianna (not sure how to spell, sorry) was so lovely - she gave my children so much attention and made half size milkshakes for my daughter every lunch time. Caterina is a lovely and professional manager, always there to help in any way.
We had suite A1 at the top which was a killer to walk up to in the heat but we felt we needed the exercise! The view was amazing and so worth it (see pic) We sat there each evening with the baby asleep playing games and watching the stars with our daughter. There was a lovely sea breeze.
Breakfast was fabulous, I miss it! We didn't have dinner at the hotel so I can't vouch for that. We went to David Veggera taverna most nights for the most amazing food. A little trip to the village next door, \"old\" Hersonnissis is well worth a visit - 20 mins walk.
The suite was very clean and comfortable which was all we wanted. Pool was lovely. There were a lot of couples and I did feel we cramped their style a bit at the pool! Sorry!

Terrific time

Lovely place high on the hillside but far enough away from mc Donald's and fishbowls. Staff absolutely brilliant and really friendly. Pool clean and picturesque with magnificent views of sea. Do not take half board option as food ok but plenty of other better tavernas nearby. Rooms clean and bright. Would go back tomorrow!

Great Place BUT not for all!

The location of the hotel is in a village named Hersonnisos that is a good 45 minutes (by bus) and 30 mins (by car/taxi) from Iraklion (capital/port) of Crete Island. Although the staff at Amazones is extremely polite and helpful, the place may not be a GO-TO place for All! Couple of reasons why I say that, there is no room service available so if you're looking for a hotel kind service, you wont find one and its based in a village-type area so commuting to tourist spots like Chania and Iraklion (Herkalion) might take up some good time of your day. Having said that, If you know what you're signing up for - i.e. - a relaxing weekend where you spend time at the hotel pool and go out to nearby areas only then this is the place to be! Do not miss the David's restaurant that's at the stone throw distance from hotel - has some great Cretan food, super service and at a very affordable prices!

excellent location for family trip

spent a good holiday with my family there. Arrived early in the morning. Room was nor prepared yet. Another type of room was proposed (with parking view vs sea veiw as was booked. We refused it and in short time proper room was prepared. Staff is friendly, no issues. Room is big enough with a kitchen facilities, nice sea view. Breakfast was average, nothing special, but our children liked it anyhow. There are a lot of great external food facilities, every night we tried different one. unfortunately, did not get a chance to have a dinner in hotel. Hotel located quote far from the beach and shopping, car or other transport for rent is the must. Swimming pool is very good, our children like to spend time there. While traveling around saw a lot of nice hotels around ,could rate Amazones as good one but nothing special.

A Hidden Gem!

This hotel was perfect for my boyfriend and I on our first visit to Crete. The staff were very friendly and made us both feel very comfortable. The apartment itself was spacious, spotless and very secure. As if that wasn't enough the views were breath taking, especially the sunsets. This wasn't just from our balcony, the whole location was extremely picturesque. The atmosphere was peaceful, respectful and relaxed. We felt free to come and go as we pleased and take advantage of the onsite facilities as well as exploring Crete. A hire car would be a great advantage as the hotel is not close to attractions or transport links (that I was aware of) All things considered I could not recommend this hotel more.

Wonderful trip to crete

We had a very enjoyable stay and would definitely return. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was all you needed to start the day.

The pool area was immaculate and the views from there and our room were splendid.

The villages are just down the steps with shops for any day to day items and also lovely places to eat or have a drink. The village people were also so very friendly.

We would recommend hiring a quad bike during your stay as this does allow you to venture a little however the beach is not a long walk away and the taxi back to the hotel is only 7 euro.

We had a fantastic time!

A Rare Jewel on Crete

We stayed for 1 month on business. We needed to stay somewhere close to the City of Malia. I chose the Amazones because of the great reviews and they were all correct. Especially note worthy was the winter Care Taker Caroline. She went out of her way to make sure our stay was comfortable. She entertained us with movie night, sight seeing recommendations, and billards. Caroline even accomidated our special request for early breakfast. Because of the great experience, I will be bringing my family back for summer vacation.

We spent 4 weeks at the Amazones Suites for business. We found it to be a beautiful location which overlooks the sea from the mountain side. We had a very memorable room which overlooked the pool and a great view of the town below. Most note worthy was the hospitality of Caroline who was the winter care taker. She went out of her way to make sure our stay was comfortable. She consulted us with sight seeing of Knossos, The Pallace of Malia, and the Village of Lota on the east coast - all worth seeing. Miss Caroline filled our extra time with movie night, billards, and information on local eateries and sights.

Went in late October early November, the tourist season was coming to an end most of the restaurants were either shut down or closing down for Winter. Weather was inclement, wore jeans and jumpers, cloudy days. But very peaceful, relaxing and nice views from hotel and generally pleasant. Breakfast at hotel very basic, lots of bread. Taxi ride to hotel from airport 35-40 euros.

Wonderful retreat in an otherwise mass-tourism area

Amazones Village Suites is a very special place that enables guests to enjoy the best of both worlds: the hustle and bustle of \"Hersonissos Port\" and the quaint Koutouloufari/Piskopiano/Old-Hersonissos troika of villages up the hill. The hotel is \"run\" (literally) by a troika of ladies and the continually laughing Dimitri (the bartender) who, under circumstances, make sure that guests are received round the clock. During our 14-28/9/11 stay, we had a seaview room (which I would recommend that readers book if availability/wherewithal allows). The view is awesome; the silence only interrupted by the \"winds of Crete\" or people chatting at the bar. Bear in mind though that the hillside layout of this petit hotel and the surrounding neighborhood makes it difficult for physically challenged people to navigate the slope. There are so many tavernas within walking distance that there's no need to book half-board. The spacious \"suites\" are well-equipped for self-caterers, but why even bother?...after all, you're on vacation! Although public (bus/taxi) transportation is very reliable and frequent, please consider renting a car because Crete is huge. After having been there for the fifth time now within the space of two years, we still haven't explored the whole island.

This is a delightful hotel, rooms are apartment sized with great facilities. We are so glad we did not stay down the hill near the harbour. The location of the hotel was ideal. We had at least 100 tavernas within 5 minutes walk and great views everywhere we looked, . Probably need some form of transport to get around, though, as it is very hilly. We hired scooters, which opened up the surrounding mountains and villages. Hotel staff were very friendly and I never heard a guest complain. I will be back and will recommend this hotel to all my friends.

Amazones Village Suites Chersonissos

Not somewhere we would stay again. Upon arrival our room smelt of damp. Ventilating the room did not improve the situation; we discussed the matter with the hotel staff pointing out that, as the bath was not sealed to the adjacent three walls there was the possibility that the area beneath the bath could be subject to mould growth. The hotel removed the bath side panel revealing the floor area to be covered in mould to varying degrees. The hotel management assured us that this was not a danger, it being mildew rather than mould (are they not the same?). The hotel nevertheless cleaned the area beneath the bath with soapy disinfectant. Two days later the room smell had greatly improved albeit some slight smell persisted produced possibly from the sofa-bed that had a slight damp smell/and or from the padded chair that appeared to be contaminated with urine. These points together with the filthy condition of the shower head were all reported to the hotel management.
Breakfast was very good.

Lovely hotel, great view, car needed

We are a family with a son who is 14 months. The hotel was very child friendly and attentive, making sure we always had a high chair for meals. The staff was very friendly and it felt very safe.

The pool looks to me like it could use some repair-especially the kiddie-pool. But still, it was was use-able and clean (with a fantastic view).

There was a confusion about which room we paid for as we booked a seaside view room and were initially placed in a side sea-view (you could barely see the water). But after some discussion with the owner/manager it was resolved in a friendly way.

The hotel offers a fabulous dinner for two in the evenings for around 12 euros (for both!!) Quite a bargain considering that the food is fresh and delicious and one can eat pool-side with a view of the sea. Again, quite outstanding.

There is no internet in the rooms/apartments, but wireless is available in the dining area, pool area and common areas. There is a computer available for guest use.

As others have mentioned, it is a LONG walk down a steep hill to the beach and shopping street. (I also thought walking down the busy street looked dangerous, especially at night). We rented a car and parking at the hotel was easy as was parking near the shopping streets.

I was so pleasantly surprised with the warm hospitality of the Greek people and that along with the warm bath-temperature sea waters and delicious food choices made our stay in Crete, Greece one of our best vacations ever.

The hotel itself was great. Only minor hiccups like the bathtub being separated from the wall left the bathroom floor wet. The rooms were extremely comfortable. We did think we were going to set a sea-side view but it was actually a sea, side view (ie. a partially obstructed view of the sea). Beware of punctuation. The hotel is slightly secluded and we had to rent a car to get to any activities. However, the hotel was comfortable enough to relax and entertain you if you just wanted to get away from the hectic world for a spell. Overall quite nice if a bit isolated.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful, the personal touch matters so much.
The location is excellent, situated in the hills above the coast, peaceful and charming, well situated for excursions throughout the countryside. The room was comfortable, well appointed and cleaned daily; a fully equipped kitchenette for self catering if desired, Sat TV lots of Greek stations TV5 and Sky CNN News. Air conditioning quiet and efficient, nice bathroom, living room and bedroom, both opening on to a balcony.
The pool and poolside bar were excellent, enjoying views over the sea and coastline.
The only thing that could be improved is the breakfast. it is laid out rather haphazardly, and some days it was better than others (real fruit jam, good yogurt, and good bread were available only now and again, generally the quality was not so good). The cereals were fine; the hot breakfast of scrambled eggs and smoked bacon was unappetising; for those who like pastries or croissants..there were none. Some small slices of dry Battenberg cake were available. The coffee was poor, as was the tea bag. Fruit consisted of orange juice and tinned pineapple. I consider breakfast an important part of a holiday, and you could eat it on the delightful pool patio. I think these deficiencies could be easily remedied and then this lovely hotel would get top marks!
I shall definitely return, everything else made up for the slight breakfast disappointment.

Fantastic Hotel, absolutely loved it. We were there right before the tourist season started so there weren't many guests. Perfect for what we were looking for. Off season stay but Dimitris Psarris made it the best ever

We checked in after a bit of drama finding the Hotel and from then on Dimitris was very helpful with information regarding where to go, how to get there and what to look for. The breakfats was not your bog standard \"English or Continental (read stale Bread) but was well thought out and imaginative, the rooms were clean and well stocked. The area was quiet but a mere 10 minute drive down the road took in to Hersinissos where we had access to what ever we wanted. How much did I like it? well I am making arrangements to take my whole family back in August!!!

Great first choice in Hersonissons, Crete

Friendly accommodating staff. A little difficult to find at first but definitely a hidden treasure. Very good value for your money. Large suite with kitchen. Decent included breakfast. View from poolside breathtaking. We were originally given two singles but after the first night when mentioned we'd prefer a double or queen bed instead, they were very accommodating and even gave us a better room with a better view. Having a car is a must to get around in Crete. Only the local village is within walking distance. Rebooked at the same hotel for an extended stay.

Top class Amozones Village Suite

The Hotel was in excellent condition and very clean. The staff were the friendliest we have encountered in any European destination and very attentive to our needs. The breakfast was surprisingly good, with something for everyone's tastes. The location was very quiet with a good range of very good restaurants a five minute walk away. If you want to explore a car would be required, but if you like sitting around the pool then you won't be disappointed.
We would recommend the Elisavet Restaurant in Piscopiano as the food was exceptional. Aquaplus is a 10 minute drive away and was very good value for money, clean and safe. Crete is a very good destination for a holiday with some of the friendliest people of any place we have visited. The score of 4 for room comfort was only because the beds were harder than we are used to.

Shhhhh, keep it quiet or everyone will want to go!

I booked this hotel after reading reviews others had written and they were no exaggeration. This hotel is one of the nicest i have ever stayed in. It is in a beautiful location. The staff are extremely efficient and very friendly. It is the sort of place that once you go to, you don't really want to leave. It is perfect for a chilled relaxed sunbathing holiday with superb views. If it had sunbeds that were just a tiny bit more comfortable, then i would rate it a 5 star and not 4 star.

Worth every dollar (or euro)

The location is, indeed, supreme. It is located on the hillside, high above the beach town laying by the bay below. From it's beautiful high location comes also the first demand - you better have some kind of transportation, doesn't matter if it is a scooter, an ATV, or a car. We tried both a scooter and a car, and can say that a scooter is more than suitable for shorter distances (up to 20....30 km max) and perfect for driving in the busy town traffic. If you want to travel longer, have a car.
Hotel is located in a separate village, however, where you can find everything, from small shops to car rentals to tavernas - so if you do not want to go to the beach or sightseeing, you can easily live in the hotel for all your stay.

Relaxing and brilliant

My sisters, nieces and I 'discovered' Amaziones a few years ago. My one sister [Kathleen T] and her husband had just been and thoroughly enjoyed their stay. This was my partner's first trip who rarely returns to a resort but, surprisingly, insists that we return and in fact has convinced me to take my other sister back there to celebrate my birthday in seven weeks time.

Not a great start to our honeymoon

We have chosen this hotel for our mini honeymoon break, and were very disappointed. We have paid extra for a sea view room with double bed, and have been allocated a garden (bar) view room on the ground floor with TWIN beds (on our honeymoon!). When inquired about it, were told to speak to the manager the next day. Next day they were unable to move us, so out of 5 nights we were staying there, we got what we paid for only 3 nights. And needless to say we were NOT offered any refund or complementary gift or something. Of course it did NOT ruin our honeymoon and all the staff in the hotel was extremely nice and polite, but we will NOT be coming back and will NOT recommend it to anyone.

Excellent!

Excellent place! The view was terrific, and it was only minutes away from two small towns and one larger one with nightlife at all times. Very friendly staff.

Room was clean, included a kitchenette, living room, bedroom, bathroom. The pool was gorgeous. Breakfast every morning was an array of pastries, fruits, hot items, fresh vegetables...The staff was very friendly and made us feel at home. Free access to internet to catch up on e-mail. They did have a game/fitness room, but we were so busy we did not check it out.

The only \"weird\" thing for us was that the bed was two twins pushed together. Understandable, and I have seen this at many resorts in the past, but not ideal for a honeymoon. This may have only been our room, and possibly there are double beds in other rooms.

Also has a restaurant and bar next to the pool. the pool had the most amazing view of the mountains and city and sea below.

We would definitely stay here again.

Not quite what we expected

We had a pleasant holiday, but the hotel wasn't quite the 4-star experience we had expected.
Positives: large, clean rooms with generous balconies.
The pool was clean and never over-crowded
Hard-working staff
Well-equipped kitchenette in room
Some interesting villages are within walking distance
Negatives: breakfast was generous but odd (Orangina instead of juice, for example,) According to the rate card there is a 15 euro per person charge for breakfast and it is certainly not worth this!
A pop music radio station is played in the lounge and pool area from breakfast until they shut. In some rooms you can hear 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' more than you would like.
No soap is provided and we kept running out of toilet paper!
I think that if you get a good deal on the price, it is worth the little inconveniences.

A Wonderful Hotel!!

The hotel was beautiful, the view from our room was breathtaking (we overlooked the town of Chersonnossis), the resort was clean and the pool area was very nice. All of the restaurants were within 10 minutes walking distance from the hotel - we stayed 10 days and ate at different restaurants each night and walked to every one of them. We would have to say that the staff ([...] and [...]) really made our trip that much more enjoyable-they were very friendly and hospitable. We absolutely loved our stay at this hotel and will definately be going back!

A fantastic Crete hotel!

The Amazones Village Suites is the place to stay in Chersonissos. It's within a short walk of three charming villages with plenty of dining and shopping, as well as to equipment and car rentals. The views from Amazones are killer! We had a sea view suite, but didn't need it since the view from the pool/bar area is just as good. The pool/bar area is a great place to spend a lot of time if you want to be lazy for a day or two. The rooms were very nice, roomy, and clean. Some items were in need of minor repair, but nothing serious. The best part of Amazones, however, is the staff. Very friendly, very professional, very helpful. We had the same staff every day of our six-day stay, so we got to know them quite well. They made our stay very enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel. If I ever get to Crete again, it is where I will stay.

Beautiful resort

We arrived almost at midnight, the staff was very helpful, delivered some food to the room just as the restaurant was closing (3.80 E). The resort is clean and the rooms large, with everything. It is about 25 minutes from the port of Iraklio, just so you know. If you have a car, it is worth the trip, if you are commuting and mostly want to see the sights, it is distant. If you want to kick back and enjoy relaxing, I can hardly think of a nicer place, you don't have to leave the premises. The beach is about a mile away, the resort is on a hill overlooking the sea and is very nice. A little town is only a short walk away. Know that non-smoking is relative in Greece. The hotel staff and visitors smoke like chimneys in the lobby and game room area. Most other areas are free of smoke. Your room may have been smoked in, also, despite the policies. Most Greeks and Europeans in general feel that non-smoking means, no one is smoking in the room while you are in it, or if you leave a window open or stand in the window, it is not \"smoking\". So if you allergic, ask a lot of questions. If you can deal with low levels of cigarette smell, like in a restaurant, lobby, you may be OK. But rental cars are a whole 'nother story.
We enjoyed our stay here and wish we had longer.

Romantic and Relaxing

Stayed just one night in Crete after booking on Orbitz, and were wonderfully suprised by the gem we found. The hotel is beautiful, away from the city, but right down a stepway is a great little town square with a few bars and restaurants. We got there late at night, walked down and had a great meal. Our room had beautiful views of the ocean, with a balcony, and was clean and comfortable. They also had a fruit basket and small bottle of wine waiting for us. The staff were fantastic and very helpful in showing us where to go in Crete. The breakfast provided was also excellent.

This hotel is perfect if you are looking for a gettaway that is romantic and private, but within walking distance to restuarants and a calm (at least the night we were there) social scene. I would highly reccommend this to anyone looking for a nice quiet getaway on their trip to Crete.

The town of Piskopiano is somewhat hard to find (make sure you tell people that you are looking for Piskopiano - not Hersonissos), but we stopped several times and asked locals where to go and eventually found it.

Genuine hospitality and friendliness

Located near three traditional villages, the Amazones Village Suite provided us with a convenient base to visit archaeological sites, beaches, monasteries, local restaurants and the opportunity to return back to base for a mid day break. A rental car is essential if you aim to get out and about.

We found the the old village of Hersonissos provided the best value and choice regarding eating out. Our top restaurant recommendation would be \"Myrtios\"

Finding the accommodation can be a bit of a challenge. Coming out of the airport following signs for Ag Nikolaos on the new national road for about 25km. Take the exit marked Hersonissos. At the stop sign take the left side direction and then take second turn on the right (Hotel sign) You follow this road straight up until you reach a stop sign where in front of you you will see a Wooden sign of Piskopiano. You need to go right at this sign and follow the road for about 500m - the villages suite complex will be on your right hand side. Worth checking out on google maps before you go.

Great hotel, great staff, great location...

I can wholely recommend Amazones Village Suites, the suites are good and well equiped, the staff were excellent and the location is superb. There are several good places to eat and drink within a few minutes walk and if you're in search of more excitement, Hersonissos is only a 15 minute walk away all down hill, it's a tougher walk back up the hill but it's good exercise. Amazones and the village of Piskopiano are on a hilside so anyone with limited mobility will need transport and anyway a car is recomended if you want to see more of the area and the island and you should.(The staff at Amazones can organise car hire for you but we found cheaper options by shopping around in Hersonissos) I'm sure there are more lively spots on Crete but if you're looking for a relaxed and extremely comfortable base to explore the island or just to be lazy, Amazones Village Suites is a fine place to do it.
