First and foremost, pay attention to their uncompromising cancellation and change policy! They do not budge. Also, the \"no outside food\" policy is ridiculous. While you can easily go to other restaurants outside of the grounds, (which are substantially cheaper!) The pricing for drinks and most food is \"resort\" pricing and rather skewed for the area. We actually had two rooms, the first during a business conference and the second because we stayed longer for a holiday. The first room over looked a disastrous construction project going on at the hotel because rooms were in short supply and construction didn't stop until 22:00 and security lighting was on all night. The second room was better, but the bath was dirty with soap scum on the tub fixtures and obvious mold in the corners. The most distressing thing though was the fact that the cleaning staff cleaned the coffee mugs in the room using hand soap from the bathroom. I know this because I discreetly marked the mugs to see if they were changed and the \"cleaned\" mugs smelled exactly like the scent of the bathroom hand soap. There were some positives, most of the staff was pleasant, the food was good with a large selection and my wife enjoyed the spa offerings. The pool area was well kept and quite nice. I just wish they didn't spray for mosquitoes at dusk everyday while we were out at the pool.

I was told they didn’t have cars to the airport so I hired someone separate, then when they came they got turned away and I had to pay them and the hotel driver that was apparently the only one allowed to give me a ride. But the staff were friendly, the place was kept clean, and the vegetarian restaurant had incredible food and service!

Overall Experience was not at all Good because first of all Check in was not at all smooth we have to wait for 30 Mins to get our rooms and after 30 mins i have got 1 Room and 1 room after 30 Mins and staff was not at all good and coperative and Later We have visited pool and the pool tiles were broken and we got injury as well. And Service is third class. Buttler comes after 30 Mins ice and glass comes after 30 mins and air conditioning, fridge is too old in the rooms. We have booked ultra luxury room but we are not at all satisfied as we have paid 15k approx and the room doesnt have a good views as well. The room approx cost 7.5k Max and breakfast got over 15 mins before and no hospitality nothing. I have stayed in more than 50 plus 5 star luxury properies i will never recommend you to stay here. Thanks

The actual Resort Rio was booked by some football federation until the end of March 2022. We had to stay a lower category property by paying the 5 star price. Food quality /taste is below subpar. We informed the hotel that we were celebrating our anniversary they said they will arrange some cake but they never did.

This hotel may have seen nicer days when it was new, but now it’s more like a run down property. The tub was dirty and did not have hot water. Closets are old and rusty. The pool was not clean properly you can see the green stuff on the sides.

Spa is not 5 star quality at all, it’s clean and the staff is friendly but untrained.

The most positive side of this hotel is, nice big rooms and staff is very nice but this Rio delux property is not 5 star and more like a 3 star service.

Highlights were the huge swimming pool (which unfortunately we couldn't use due to Covid, however we did click loads of pictures around the entire property), the staff, the food and ambiance.

Coming back here on every special occasion as the staff here makes it much much more special.

My Favourite Resort in the World ! Amazing People

Resort Rio: we love you ! Thank you very much for the most amazing stay and hospitality. Beautiful resort, superb facilities and our Rio Suite was simply palatial. We loved the space, the views and the most luxurious marble bathroom with a marble tub we have ever seen. We enjoyed and appreciated the very warm and genuine hospitality from all staff members. Vaman and Sumitra: thank you for the housekeeping. Shubham and Akash, we appreciate your friendly service from F&B. Thank you for the amazing food at Pickled Mango and at Jalsa, the pure veg restaurant. And what can we say about Aagor? Probably the most amazing place to be each night- a typical goan beach shack by the pool with its very own beach ! We loved Aagor so much that we spent most of our time there and you must try the fiery Feni ( nothing like the feni you would have tasted anywhere- they distil their own and its smoother than fine cognac.Thank you Roy and Agnelo for amazing cocktails. Zaara spa therapies were relaxing and we enjoyed the couple massage. What i loved about Zaara spa was the beauty and peace with fine aromas and soothing music as the masseurs gave the most relaxing massage ever followed by a rose petal bath, a relaxing steam and then rainwater shower. Both my wife and I came out of Zaara different people- pure bliss. Thank you Kazi and Mumtaz at Zaara spa. Thank you also to Stephen and his team at the front office for all the care that was taken.Fatty Francis, please keep our usual table reserved !

If you're from America do not stay here
-This is not a 5 star hotel - It just has really nice decor
-Staff is not trained well and many first line staff were interns that struggled to speak English - I have a team of over 300 staff in India and I know the difference and I am very forgiving on this matter. This staff was mostly comprised of those who are not up to par.
-Wifi is a joke there. it was slower than dial up from the 90s Management said they would look into it but nothing changed. It was a total joke and probably purposely throttled.
-There are two pool bars which got me excited but no one goes to them. Only twice there were two other people than me and my friend. Kinda kills the experience. This was during a time when they were fully booked.
-Their food is pretty decent and really good if you like Indian food. Mama Mia is an Italian place with good food
- They had several large events hosted by companies who were staying at the time and as a result would close some of their venues. I thought this was unfair to others.
-They prohibit you from bringing your own alcohol
-They prohibit you from having guests in your room
-They accused me of trying to leave without paying even though I prepaid for this stay and I had a Credit Card on file for incidentals. This happened because I tried to have my bag loaded into my airport transport before checking out. This could've been avoided if I were allowed to check out from my side of the resort but that was not an option.

They charge way to much for food and drinks, plus to many rule to have to obey like ladies have to wear certain types of clothing in the pool, and you can not bring any item of food or drink back to the hotel or allow any visitor up to you room. The free wi fi is crap it is way way to slow as they want you to pay more for the better high speed package. Also the ratio of single man to families and couples is to high with these man just sit by the pool look at the ladies a bit creepy made my partner uncomfortable.

lots of private functions and weddings here where you will have limited access or none at all while the \"vip\" guests take priority
very noisy at night if there is a function going on which happens a lot
good points, room was big, air con works well and comfortable bed but thought we had booked a 5 star resort package which resort rio also known as rio residency falls well short
going back to Goa but will be booking a global chain hotel on ebookers next time, there is lots of them in goa we noticed while there to choose from

We were restricted using many facilities due to events like Indian weddings. Staff was very uncooperative. manager was rude. We were over charged. Almost double than regular charges.
Terrible, uneducated staff. They cared only for corporate and wedding events and their guests.
We were robbed. It was day time robbery.
I demand full refund what we paid. I will never recommend this hotel to any body.

Worth Staying Again!!

We planned for the Goa trip again after 4yrs and were confused which hotel to stay. Based on the previous experience we went again with Resort Rio and I must say they didn't disappoint at all. In fact I could recognize most of the staff which speaks a lot about the staff retention and happiness quotient among them.

Being a returning customer we were upgraded to bigger room with awesome view as a complementary (thanks Durgesh for the gesture), We really appreciate this gesture. When we thought they were done they surprised us with the welcome cake in the room, talking about hospitality and the care they took. The hotel staff called us everyday to ensure that we were taken care of nicely.

Overall I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Ideal if travelling with kids (we had two small ones to mend). Very courteous staff, excellent food and lavish as well as sumptuous breakfast spread. The House keeping staff were very prompt and ensured that they cleaned the mess which our kids enjoyed a lot making.

Location wise too this hotel is ideal being close to Baga beach, Tito's lane (most happening place in Goa with all the clubs around) and Calungute beach as well as market.

The property is worth staying with excellent swimming pools and lots of in-house amenities.

One of the best place to stay near Baga beach and the most happening place in Goa!!

Not a place for off season travel

Though I'm sure the facility is great during season we booked the hotel based on their beautiful pool and multiple restaurants, as we knew fewer local restaurants would be open in off season. We didn't find out until our arrival that only one restaurant was open and they had closed down the larger, prettier pool for the duration of our stay. Though the staff accommodated us as best they could, we felt there should have been a disclaimer about the available facilities when we booked.

This is a comfortable hotel but not four star

This is predominately a conference and wedding venue hotel for locals so tourists take aback seat in terms of service & use of facilities.
The rooms are not sound proof hence the noise levels are unbelievable at night when conference and weddings are on (which is most days) which we complained about on numerous occasions with no joy.... Locals who attend these events are also very rude & also seem to resent sharing there hotel with westerners...
while we love India we would certainly not return this hotel & believe you should remove it from your list of hotels.

Hotel location was good and staff friendly. also breakfast had a wide variety.

unfortunately the rooms we booked we not 5* standards. the bedding was stained and linen did not fit properly, the wooden base of the bed was really dusty and dirty. we paid for 3people sharing but the room did not accommodate for it. no hot water on two days, no wifi in room. also the mandatory new years eve gala dinner imposed on us was in bad taste as we already had plans but had to pay this ridiculous price.

Nice hotel, very helpful staff. Food in the pickled mango restaurant wasnt great, as the curries we chose had chicken on the bone (with about 1% chicken on the bones). The manager also told us that this is how it is done in India, however, during our stay, all of the outside restaurants served boneless chicken. Everything was very expensive at the hotel too i.e tuna sandwich 500r, down the road i had fillet steak for 550r.

Glossy exterior fails to live up to expectations!

Extremely noisy-breakfast in the Pickled Mango was reminiscent of a school canteen, with clanging trays and noise levels that warranted the use of ear plugs! Noise from guests on the same floor was not dealt with by management, despite one of the many house rules being a request for 'quietness' after 10pm.

Areas of improvement:
- Breakfast is average
- Rooms are large but decor and lighting makes the room dim. Bathtoom is kind of dark and its hard to shave.
- Pool is average
- Christmas Gala dinner was rip off: food was bad, flimsy chairs, drink is below average. I had handover with only few drinks that has never happened to be with good drinks. Hotel charged Rs 7000 ph but I think they didn't spend more than 3000

This was the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed at, blaring music from the pool bar, very disorganised. Breakfast was a bun fight ( if you could get a table) I don't know why it was so busy as the food was nothing less than grim! We didn't bother going into breakfast half of the time.

this was my second visit to resort rio almost after an year and half. Previously I stayed in their old building but this time they gave me a room in RIO ROYALE. room were very spacious and clean, but there is more greenary and large swimming pool in their old building. service this time was way too low and not at all what was provided to me last time. food is overpriced, staff is not so helpful. new bulding had a stinking smell at night when we moved out of our room. maybe this was my final visit to Rio this time.

The toilet had a very strong urine smell.Had to ask the reception to clean up.I vomitted on the way to hotel as the heat got to me and once in the room I rang for water 3 times and it never came. .I complained the next day as my friend had to go and buy water.The hotel staff acknowledged this the next day so that was nice.The Rio bar service was great and staff very friendly and helpful.

5 Star Hotel Not worth it!!!!

I would not recommend this Hotel, I was move 2 time from my room, 1 they gave me the wrong room, second the room had a very bad smell. So I lost most of my afternoon moving from room to room. There's no WI-FI in the rooms been a 5 star hotel u will think they would have a WI-FI everywhere, the lobby is full of people trying to get on the WI-FI, and they give u this little papers with the WI-FI codes, but they expired every couple hours, that's crazy, so if u need to use the Web u would have to used plenty of those little papers they provided, so disappointed in this Hotel, not what it seems from pictures and everything is way to expensive, I would not recommend anyone to this Hotel ever.

Nice little cafe/restaurants 2 minutes away if you want to go for cheaper options for food. We ate at Kukuruku every day. Also best location in Goa for easy access to beach/bars.

Great resort. People were absolutely lovely, amenities were also great and the full body massage at the spa was out of this world.

WiFi was unbelievably bad even when we were around the reception area. Kept dropping out and wouldn't sign in again. Worst of all the rooms didn't have WiF.

Whoever picked the taps in the bathroom sink should be shot. The water barely hit the sink.

I spent three days at Resort Rio while traveling in India for business. The rooms were very spacious with large patios. The resort has a lovely main pool as well as a smaller, more secluded pool beside the spa for those wanting to sunbath and read in peace. The Zaara Spa located on the resorts property offered excellent service.

The service in the hotel is excellent..The staff is very courteous. However there are some major drawbacks. Firstly the electricity issue. Throughout the stay the electricity went off n on. We had to keep on re-setting the TV channel everytime the power went off. Very inconvenient. One other major drawback is that the internet connection is not available in rooms. I have stayed in hotelsaround the world. Never heard of a 5* deluxe property without internet connection in rooms. Still will give a 3* just for the service & staff.

Lovely Peaceful Luxury Hotel

Our stay in May 2015 was amazing, there was 4 of us, one from UK, one from India, one from Oman and one from Indonesia, we are all good friends and often travel together. The hotel location is very good as it is only 2 km from the beach, but away from the hustle of the markets and built up city. Perfect place to relax, unwind, enjoy the facilities and lovely food in the hotel at the Pickled Mango. If you want to be busy then the hotel travel desk will guide you to hire a moped and you can explore North Goa. The guest Relations Executive, Cassandra was so lovely so accommodating and always happy to help. The front reception staff and house keeping staff were all very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel for friends, families and also couples. The poolside staff and spa staff were also very friendly. Credit to the hospitality shown to us by Cassandra which made the stay even more special.

Worth staying at.

Decided to stay here based on the other reviews and I was happy with the decision.
We stayed there for 3 nights last week.
We arrived fairly late at night due to a delayed connecting flight and they had the room ready for us. Even though it was like 1 am, they brought us a welcome drink.

That night I tried to take a shower and the water was body temperature, but the other 3 days, it got much hotter.

We stayed in a Luxury Deluxe room 207. The bathroom was large, had a separate tub and a shower. The shower had a handheld unit and a overhead rain shower which was really nice.

From our room/balcony, we could access the wifi connection, though from where the bed is situated, it was just intermittent from there. It was a little annoying to have to get the paper password/login info from the front desk as each login is only good for 100 minutes.

The pool was nice and clean. The bar had quite a few drink, but I mainly just drank beer. Reasonable priced for a resort. Pizza's were good.

Breakfast had a wide variety of food. Though it was pretty similar everyday.

The hotel is situated at the end of a deadend street. We ended up renting a scooter to get around. Beach is about 5-10 minutes away. There are a few good restaurants not too far away as well that we tried.

It's easy to get a taxi there as well.

All in all I thought it was worth it and would stay there again.

We stayed three nights in Feb 2015, place is very good, wish beach was in walking distance, requires a taxi ride costing Rs 250 each way ! Hotel shuttle is infrequent and operates only between 10 - 6. Restaurant staff could use some training and lighting in the rooms is very dull, my two recommendations to the owner. Our overall our stay was great and would stay again.

Bit far from beach

Resort Rio is bit far from beach ,almost 3-4 km from calangute and baga beach.rooms and bathrooms are very big.overall property is big but it is near to a river which has become drain now.food is very expensive although breakfast is very good.

Good place but can do better

It’s a great property right next to Baga River and the view from the swimming pool area is unobstructed and very nice . Also this is one of the very few hotels which provide a bidet shower. The general upkeep is of a high order and quality of food is good. Having said that , there are certain areas where the hotel needs to pull up its socks .
1. The sound one would like to wake up to is the chirping of birds. However, the housekeeping staff had other ideas with their constant ,excited, loud chatter outside our balcony , inside the corridors , everywhere .
2. Making the new year dinner compulsory for the guests is in bad faith because no such conditions were highlighted at the time of booking. At ten thousand bucks a pop , it was probably the most expensive party in town - much more than the value one received.
3.. The breakfast buffet did not have any cold cuts and anyone desirous of pork necessarily had to go for the fried variety . Also there were no Goanese items and the patisserie did not keep the Goanese dessert Bebinka .
4. This is probably the only hotel I know which bans outside drinks/ food in rooms on the pain of corkage. So if I desire a single malt which the hotel doesn't have , and I drink my own in my own room, I better pay for it.
5.. The TV reception was poor as was the bouquet of channels - very basic .
6.. The gym is good but the time spent on the treadmill needs to be capped if there are people waiting .

Beautiful place.. good food.. pool was good.. Only thing irritatied us was no wifi in the rooms. With the kind of price we paid for the stay, that was the least expected.. Nevertheless, stay was great.. Luxury rooms have huge beds..

The resort was really nice, luxurious and near to beaches and market. The resort arranges for the tours as well at very affkrdable rates.

I loved my 2 day stay at the rio. The staff were really good always smiling.
But the hotel management can work on few more things to make the stay better. Like the hot water which comes and goes while in the shower. Definitely need more lighting in rooms and TV chanel needs tunning.

Beautiful property, just dont book base leverooms.

Booked the hotel for 3 nites for 6 of us.
Were made to wait for half an hour for check in and even after the wait only got 2 rooms. 3rd room wasnt ready and was given to us after a wait pf another half an hour.

The hotel was beautiful, pool was huge and nice. But the moment we entered our rooms our enthusiasm came crashing down.

The biggest put off was the bathroom and the room flooring, which seems have not been paid any attenetion since the day the hotel opened.

Hot water in the shower comes at its own sweet wish.

Whenevwr any1 flushes or uses the basin in the above or adjoining room you get flood noises in your bathrpom drainage.

Lighting in the room is way below par.
No consistency in room sizes as the third room given to us was atleast 30% smaller than the other room.

Now the good part
Food at the restaurants was amazing. Specially the mutton biryani.

The property is big and beautifuly maintained.

Pool is huge and clean. Love the pool bar.

Staff is prompt to help and arrange cabs whenever req.

May be the base level rooms are the neglected ones and the other rooms are fancy and nice.

Choose this hotel cz the property is very nice but do not book the base level rooms.

The stay was awesome... All staffs were good... Sachin was great at Pickled mango restaurant.. Nice service.. Ranga was t best man there he got us two complementary cake for my wedding anniversary n for my friends son s bday and in 45 minutes.. Overall stay awesome awesome...

Overrated Hotel

The first night of my hotel stay with my wife, we were told that we would be provided the river view, the same was not given. We were given the 1st Floor, which was decent to stay but in the night the AC water leaking all night and the room was flooded with water the next morning. When we told them about the uncomfortness and the bad experience, they changed our room. we were shifted to a bad room on the 2nd floor without the Lift. Their attitude was like take it or leave it.

We humbly requested them to atleast delay our check out time for the inconveince caused to us without our fault. They strictly said no, that their system wont take it. So actually we had to be on the road for that period in the afternoon.

They provided us a card for the room entry, which stopped working in the night and the same happened every night. And we had to do up and down from 2nd floor to downstairs and run to the reception in the middle of the night for replacement of the card. those four nights were a nightmare, thinking that what if we climb up and the card dsnt work, then we would have to come down again. So we went up one by one. My wife confirmed that the room opened and that I could come up.

The breakfast buffet had the same menu all days..

The distance from the room to the reception was a long walk.

Nice enough. Cozy room is average. The other rooms in the pictures look nicer. Spacious with balcony. Staff were attentive especially in the restaurants. Food prices a bit high. Breakfast was good.

Amazing stay for 4 nights!!!!!

I stayed with my wife after Diwali holidays for 4 night and had an amazing stay at this huge and nicely maintained property...the staff at the hotel is excellent in terms of hospitality.. The rooms are truly luxurious...the food at both the restaurants I.e. Jalsa and pickled mango is worth it....

Excellent hotel, but a long way from the beach

Really good quality hotel, great facilities. The only issue is that its about a 15 mins drive from Baga beach. Taxi is 250 Rupees each way and if you're not worried about the money then this is a great hotel.

as I have booked a standard room even the basic facilities like MATRESSES.. TV( older SHARP LCD THAT TOO Without set-top box..only CABLE TV)...are quite disappointing as per the cost of rooms which is quite higher...only good things are GOOD complimentary breakfast & WI-fi availability

Complete resort with excellent facilities

Great property, excellent and courteous staff and you have a great package. Pleasantly surprised by the staff was always under the impression Foreigners are pampered at the expense of desi tourists.
The food in their restaurants was a tad expensive but then atleast quality was good
i have absolutely no complaints about the experience and would strongly recommend this to others if they are willing to overlook the approach road to this property
