This unique 19th Century castle hotel lies in many hectares of beautifully manicured gardens and parkland in the heart of the Cavan countryside. Visitors will receive a warm welcome here and feel thoroughly spoilt during their whole stay.

The restaurant overlooks the Forest Park and offers the best of local cuisine, whereas more informal dining is available in the bar. This is a unique venue for weddings and other events and the castle also caters for private meetings and conferences, paying great attention to detail.

From the Lords Bedchamber to the courtyard rooms, a magnificent stay awaits its guests at one of the most luxurious properties in Ireland. The hotel offers the luxury of Medieval-style castle rooms, complete with 4-poster beds and artisan-style lodgings in the courtyard area, while our cottage rooms cater for more budget-conscious visitors (all rooms are non-smoking).


Located in Kingscourt, Cabra Castle Hotel is in a rural location, a 4-minute drive from Dún na Rí Forest Park and 15 minutes from Carrickmacross Lace Gallery. This hotel is 13.4 mi (21.6 km) from Patrick Kavanagh Rural and Literary Resource Centre and 18.7 mi (30.1 km) from Ramor Theatre.

The castle itself was amazing, the food and service was great. The lodge was very nice but would say it doesn't measure up to staying in the hotel. I would recommend a castle room and take advantage of the beautiful dinner and amazing breakfast. Great value for a castle hotel! Would stay again.

There are numerous important historic sites in counties Louth and Meath (e.g. Trim Castle and Monasterboice) that are well worth a visit. Nevertheless, the attraction and destination were Cabra Castle Hotel. We were not disappointed. The Castle is impressive inside and out during the day and at night, it is truly spectacular. The grounds are beautiful as well. We stayed in one of the cottage rooms which was large, comfortable, and nicely appointed. As noted in other reviews, it was necessary to open windows to cool the room to a comfortable temperature. My wife and I had dinner in the dining room, and it was a charming and delightful experience. Our entrées were good but not memorable. The hotel staff was welcoming and professional. We enjoyed our one-night stay at the Castle.

Beautiful, quaint property, friendly staff. Only thing was that you could hear everything from the rooms and it was very noisy. Every time the people in the room across the hall came in and out their room, it sounded like they were trying to unlock our door that’s how loud it was. Besides that it was a stunning place!

The website was misleading as to the type of rooms. it shows the cottages having a balcony or a patio. My room had neither. Our party had book 3 rooms. I had requested a ground floor room due to a disability.Members of our party arrived at different times. Unfortunately they gave that room to the member of the party that arrived first rather than the person who booked the room.

The main property is pretty and interesting. I didn’t pay enough attention when booking and wound up in the b and b which is down the hill from the “castle.” These were lodges/cabins with no period feel at all to match that of the main property. It was comfortable but needs some upkeep. The main property was built to look like a castle but was never an actual castle. Still it is really pretty inside and out.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was nice and in a pretty room of the main building. We enjoyed the continental breakfast more than what we ordered. The pastries were fresh and delicious!!Delicious cappuccino!

Loved being able to stay in the original \"castle\" part of the building, but the layout for the lovely bathroom (in a round turret of the building) needs to be rethought. The claw-foot tub presented quite a problem for us mobility-challenged patrons to maneuver, and left a huge puddle behind the tub after showering. Lighting in the bathroom needs improvement for applying makeup, and putting the toilet paper holder on the back wall behind the toilet made it impossible to reach. Nowhere to hang hand towels for drying out after using.

Beautiful . Can't fault Cabra castle in any way. The staff couldn't do enough for us.
Also the cleanliness was top notch. The beds were so comfortable (had two nights in the castle room and one in the lodge)
I've never slept so well in a long time.
Would definitely recommend, especially when they have the spa and wellness facilities.
The food was absolutely delicious (wedding party) even distributing chicken and chips in cones later in the evening .
The Irish breakfasts ensured i got up and raced to the dining area in the morning (something i never do anywhere else)
Wish i was still there!

I cannot rave about our stay here enough! Every aspect is truly first class. We stayed here for my mother’s 75th birthday. They made her feel so special all day from lunch at the bar to dinner at the restaurant no detail was missed. Food and drinks were excellent at both. The grounds are gorgeous and the rooms are spacious (we booked superior room). But what shined the most was the staff, everyone was so friendly and accommodating. We had an early departure and the staff had a to go coffee ready before we departed, so many little extra touches like this made this a fabulous stay!

We stayed in a courtyard room. It was beautiful. Really warm and cosy. Beautiful bathroom with large walk-in shower. Kettle, tea, coffee,milk and biscuits provided. We had our dinner in the bar and the food was amazing as was the breakfast. The whole place is spotless. The gardens are absolutely gorgeous. We had a walk through the forest. The staff are lovely and can't do enough for you.Definitely recommend.

This place is like a 3 star Hotel. The only thing thats nice about this property, are the grounds, nature and the castle idea itself. The restaurant is like an upscale sports bar, definitely not fine dinning!. The food selection on the menu doesnt match that what is shown on their website. Your options for a nice romanting dinner will be between a burger, sandwich or a wrap. It is misleading since you are planning a nice romantic night travelling all the way from the USA and your dinner selection is something you could get at any sports bar. No authentic Irish meals on the menu either. This place is located at least 30min from any alternative restaurants selection. The staff doesnt reflect that of any 4 star Hotel that I have ever stayed at. I had to ask the waiter several times for things thats pretty simple. The company is trying to sell staying in an upscale fairy tale Irish castle, yet they lack authenticity and some quality. Its was just overall a little disappointing compared to all the other places ive stayed in Ireland and Scotland, this was probably the worst.

Start to finish a truly wonderful experience for my wife's 70th.birthday, unfortunately the breakfast was a bit of a let down ie. My wife's French toast was cold and my fried egg was frazzled, definitely the worst fried egg in Ireland.
The egg makes the fry.
Booked a table for 7pm Saturday evening. Arrived at 6.50 and we were told to wait outside in a side room until 7 even though the restaurant was empty at the time.
Not even an offer to provide us with a drink while we waited.
Hence we went down to the bar and had our meal, with no complaints and the staff were fantastic as they were on the Friday night, especially catriona,unfortunately the staff in the restaurant are not on the same planet and definitely don't have the same customer friendly approach.
Such a shame that this should happen on my wife's 70th.birthday.

The castle was made into an amazing historic hotel complete with so much original architecture. We stayed in one of the cottages which were new builds but so well designed that you might think you were in part of a historic castle. The cottage was very spacious and well appointed. The staff were brilliant. Emma was fantastic, very welcoming and deserves all the bonuses you could ever give her. The grounds and beautiful and the room was lovely and very comfortable. We have been to stay before and we will be back again hopefully in the near future.

From the Hotels.com information I thought that the hotel was in the centre of Kingscourt but it is on the outskirts and certainly not walking distance. The location is very picturesque and the grounds are well maintained. Without exception the staff were helpful and friendly and are a great asset to their employer. We had a room in a lodge which is not in the main building and was comfortable and clean with a decent shower, linen and toiletries. I would have had an excellent night's sleep if it hadn't been for the rowdy guests who returned in the middle of the night to move furniture and continue partying.

Lovely venue. Grounds are beautiful. Beds very comfortable and rooms are a very generous size. Only grumble is the sound insulation, difficult to tackle in an old castle I’d concede but the people above or to the side don’t have to be particularly loud before it becomes intrusive.

Food and service in restaurant was excellent

Great stay, difficult to get to on pub transport

Staff was extremely kind and helpful! Food was great and walking the grounds was very charming. We had a hard time getting to the castle relying on public transportation. I would suggest providing a shuttle or taxi service information for travelers without personal transportation.
