This hotel reminded us of a post-Communist era Eastern European property, like the former Yugoslavia. It looked like Tito once stayed there. The room was overly warm, but there was no thermostat to adjust. You could open a window, but then flies and mosquitoes came in. There was no “do not disturb” sign, so we told the desk clerk we didn’t want cleaning. They came in anyway, and moved all of our clothes and toiletries. The breakfast was very ordinary and subpar compared to other Norwegian hotels. The property is convenient to touring the fjords areas, however. There is a good little Asian restaurant in the next town over, too.

Great Hotel, But Not the Room We Reserved

While planning our dream vacation we only had time for one night deep in the fjords. We spent hours searching for the ideal hotel location with a magnificent view. We reserved 5 months in advance (paid on Dec 12, 2024). We even upgraded to a SUPERIOR room with Waterfront VIEW (Canal View) to make the one night even more special. SADLY, when we checked in at 16:30, we received a somewhat run-down room with a tiny bathroom and a view of some roof tops and the motorway. The beautiful photos of magnificent views & large bathrooms on Hotels.com were not our reality. We politely asked the front desk if they had any superior rooms available that had a view of the water (Canal View) as our reservation stated a “Canal View”. The kind lady said that they did not have any other available rooms. However, one hour later, a tour bus of guests arrived (this means that there were other rooms STILL available when we had inquired). The location and common areas of the hotel are fantastic. The breakfast was EXCELLENT (Thon Hotels have always had the best breakfast). But, when friends ask about the world famous Norway fjords, our hotel room experience was not what we reserved. :-(

Had this feel that cheapes solutions were taken, mostly. View was heavenly, dinner not very tasty same with breakfast. Tastles dishes. Room freash and clean but low end. Smell of urine in the bathroom. Carpet in reception and dirty and coul have had a good klean. Staff mosly unexperienced.

The restuarant staff was excellent. The front desk staff was awful. Road noise kept us up all night and then the cleaning manager opened the door to our room without knocking and I was just coming out of the shower nude. He apoligzed later but cleaning normally knocks. When I told the front desk, the two young ladies tere shrugged there shoulders and chatted. No apologies, nothing

Staff are great, location and large spaces are great, but the rooms themselves are tired and the bathroom in particular was puzzling with inaccessible toilet paper and a flooding approach to shower drainage. Breakfast was a miss with frozen fruit salad but the free coffee and sparkling water in a very restful, relaxing lounge was absolutely fantastic.

The staff was super helpful and nice ! It makes a difference in a long trip ! They were very accommodating considering they had roof construction in the building.
Nice room with scenic view on the lake with balcony to enjoy the sun at the end of a long drive. Hotel is conveniently located near E39 but also quiet. Very clean. Breakfast was excellent with good choice of food. I definitely recommend.

I fell in love with this hotel! The rooms were comfortable and the staff very friendly. I loved all the lounge spaces in the lobby and had a great time talking to fellow travelers. The dinner buffet was expansive and very reasonably priced and the breakfast buffet was delicious. I have never stayed at a Thon property before but will definitely use this chain again on my trip.

Request a room in new building or don’t stay here

Although the gentleman who checked me in was super nice, this was the most annoying check in I’ve ever had. I came exhausted after traveling all day, and was given instructions on how to get to my room. I was to go up one flight of stairs, down a hallway and up two more flights of stairs and down another hallway to the old building. It was too much to take in and I got lost and had to try to bring my luggage down the stairs to find the reception again to ask for help. If I were you, I’d call and ask to be in the newer building because it is very annoying to be in the old building if you have a lot of luggage.

Next, the room has blackout curtains… but they aren’t cut wide enough, so they didn’t cover the entire window. Really?

The main light in my room flickered for about 2 minutes before it gave up and just turned off.

Breakfast was good, such as the rest of the Thon hotels and staff were friendly. Parking was free, on-site, plenty of spaces and easy.

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t recommend staying here, unless the rooms in the new building are easier to get to, with lights that don’t flicker and blackout curtains that fit the windows.

The good reviews must all be from people who got to stay in the new building, because I just don’t see anyone giving the old building a good review.

Hotel was quite nice. Location on lake front with beautiful view. Dinner and breakfast were very nice. Heated pool was a real treat. Hotel was somewhat dated but in a general good condition. The extra bed provided was very hard and uneven. Best described as sleeping on a pile of rocks.

We had a very goos time in this hotel. Thw location was good to break our journey with a stop and the rooms were nuce and clean. We enjoyed a relaxing swim at the pool and the dinner offered a good variety of meals. You could also order meals of your choice. The lobby was very welcoming with the flickering loghts of the candles and the crackling fireplace. Staff was polite and our room had a nice view of the mountain. We were pleasantly surprised with this hotel and had a great stay here.

MBeautiful location, right on the lake. The hotel seems a little tired on first glimpse, but it is actually very well appointed and comfortable. Room was small, but clean and comfortable, and with the most amazing view of the lake. There is a fantastic pool, which is heated to almost tropical conditions. There are games rooms. There’s a guest laundry. There is a library and lots of places to sit and relax and make yourself at home. The hotel is near to a few shops. The hotel restaurant has delicious food for a reasonable price. Amazing deserts. Nice breakfast with good choices. There is not much to do in the town, but that’s OK. The lake is so beautiful it is just nice to walk around it and look at it. Really nice place to stay

Ok by American standards, poor for Norway

My husband and I stopped here on our way to Bergen from Valldal. We just needed a bed so weren't looking for anything fancy, but as we've been in Norway for a week (from rural California) we've come to expect good quality from even cheaper hotels. This place badly needs updating. While the bedroom has been updated and has a very comfy bed, the bathroom is TINY, (you could barely move), outdated, very loud etc. Our shower curtain had mold on it and the tub was chipped in many places. The hot portion of breakfast was inedible and cold while the bread was good and the smoothies were a great touch that we liked. Again, we're American and are used to gross, pre-packaged breakfast at hotels. We could hear everything happening in the rooms surrounding us, waking us up at all hours. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper though even wearing them for us didn't help. In short, this place is fine for a night and most Americans like us might be satisfied but if you are Norwegian or European, I'm guessing you'd expect better for the price. We have stayed in multiple, comparable hotels on this trip for quite a bit less that were fabulous in every way.

FLOTT OPPHOLD. HUNDER INGEN HINDRING

Jeg var der både torsdag til fredag, og så, søndag til mandag, på gjennomreise.

Dette var i dlutten av november, og så, norn dager seinere, først i desember, med tent juletre utenfor. Det viste at vi var i gang med adventstida. Få gjester var det, siden jeg overnarrwt utenom helga.

Stemningen i fellesrom og spisesal var likevel både behagelig, vennlig og koselig. Alle ansatte jeg var i kontakt med, var hyggelige, blide og hjelpsomme.

Jeg hadde med meg 3 store hunder. De er vant til hotellbesøk, så det fungerte bra. Jeg fikk et greit rom, begge gangene, rene og pene og hyggelige.

Hundene kunne jeg lufte i området rundt hotellet. Det er greit å gå ut bak, via dører som går ut til det området fra gangen mellom bygningene. Jeg brukte pose til å fjerne hundenes avføring. Det kunne kanskje være en idé å sette ut en avfallsdunk bak hotellet, så man ble kvitt hundeposene der.

Ellers var det fint å gå tur med hundene, mot dagsturhytta oppe i lia. Der rant bekk, så de fikk drikke. Og jeg hadde med en gjest som besøkte oss med hund, neste dag, mandagen.

Etter tur med hundene, var vi inne og tok en kaffekopp. Pepperkaker var satt fram. Jeg synes det er veldig kjekt når hotellet ikke tar betqlt for en kopp kaffe, men lar det stå fremme for gjestene. Da føler man seg veldig velkommen.

Det var mulig å få buffé om kvelden torsdag, men den var virkelig alt for dyr, synes jeg. Jeg måtte derfor stå over den.

Frokosten var veldig smakfull.
Vi kommer gjerne tilbake.
