The hotel is situated just about on the lake front overlooking the waters to Gripsholm Castle, an idyllic location. There are plenty of loungers and outdoor furniture if you wish to relax and enjoy the views as well as catering if required. I had a room with a lakeside view which, although somewhat pricey, was very peaceful. There was an excellent range of items at breakfast. Staff are very helpful.

Lovely atmosphere and great common areas. Room was also nice, however bad smell in the bathroom and a little dusty around the bed and lots of cobweb on the windows (when opening window spiders came in). Great staff. Restaurant waitress spoke only English and didn't know the meny but asked collueges. Breakfast - the homemade bread was a disappointment but the pancakes were amazing. Overall a lovely stay and would definately visit again!

Overall a great stay in a great little charming village. The hotel has an abundance of character but does need updating. We stayed in a suite and the living room was quite dark. Castle views amazing. The property is lovely with outdoor areas to also enjoy the castle view. Staff very attentive. The rooms could use a mini fridge—this would make big difference especially for longer stays. We felt two nights was adequate to view the castle, tour the town, and then add another experience like the train and steam to Taxinge Slott. No AC in the rooms despite it saying it does. It’s a property wide air cooling system that is mediocre at best. We opened the windows and even being right above the restaurant our fan drowned out most noise. Overall, I recommend!

Lovely stay in a room with a beautiful castle view. We loved the common areas and lively bar and restaurant. The entire staff were so kind and helpful and the restaurant food was delicious in a charming ambiance with impeccable service.

This hotel has a very nice atmosphere. It feels comfortable and it was lovely to see the common areas full of families and groups sitting together and enjoying some drinks and snacks and just being social. The room was simple, clean and comfortable. The bathroom was beautiful and well appointed. The restaurant/pub provided decent food but was overpriced...simple burger and meatballs dinners with a drink ringing in at 600 SEK. The breakfast was very good quality. A beautiful hotel with good staff and perfectly situated to enjoy the town. We will stay here again.

Charming, historic hotel where each room has unique Swedish furniture and decor, still with all the amenities and a Hastens bed. Wonderful setting on Lake Malarian, a stones throw from Gripsholm Castle. We loved just throwing open the windows and enjoying the fresh country air! We seemed to be the only non-Swedish guests in September, so that made it an even more authentic experience.

Overall we had a great time staying in Mariefred - Gripsholm castle was amazing and the town is very charming. The hotel promised a lot and the staff were excellent but overall, it was a let-down. Some things didn't work properly: the light in the hall of our room kept flickering then failed, even after being 'fixed', the drains in the beautiful, slick bathroom smelt really badly (even thought the batroom itself was spotless), the internet was lousy and the very expensive dinner was very bland and not worth anything near the price charged (Chicken roll with soggy 'crispy skin', tarragon powder, a bland gravy and carrot puree is not worth 30+ euros).
The building is beautiful with a lot of the original decor lovingly maintained, but we just couldn't help but be reminded that we were in a corporate hotel, not (as the brand promises) a cultural pearl.
If the room / internet problems were sorted out, the restaurant was to serve food worthy of the price tag and the stacks of products for sale in the lobby made a lot less obvious, then it could have got 5 stars from us but it simply didn't deliver.

Very good hotel. It is a little bit quirky but all the better for it. Nice and quiet in the room even though the rest of the hotel was busy. In line with everywhere else in Sweeden the food and drinks are expensive but in line with prices in the area.

We spent two nights including Valentines Day in a standard room. Our view was of the castle and lake, be sure to ask for a lake view . The restaurants are expensive but good with great service. My wife took advantage of the spa and received wonderful treatments. We were seek a restfull time and found a wonderful retreat. No activity in the area during the winter mobths.

Et sjarmerende og historisk vertshus med fantastisk beliggenhet rett ved Mälaren og med flott utsikt mot Gripsholm slott. Koselig uteservering hvor det er fint å nyte en drink eller et måltid. Rommet vårt var veldig hyggelig, med nydelige senger som ga en god natts søvn. Det var litt varmt på rommet, men med vinduene åpne gikk det helt fint. Frokosten var helt grei, uten å være noe spesielt. Totalt sett hadde vi et veldig hyggelig opphold, og vi kommer gjerne tilbake.

Vi hade i önskemål, önskat specifika saker och de hade uppfyllt våra behov bra.
Det enda och mindre positiva var att det saknades kylskåp på rummet och ännu viltigare ingen vattenkokare för möjlighet till varm dryck på kvällen.
När vi kom på em fanns det kaffe i allmänna utrymmen. Vi valde att gå ut först och kom tillbaka till hotellet vid 19-tiden och tänkte att det skulle vara gott med te/kaffe/choklad, men då var behållarna tömda och inga termosar och heller inget meddelande om att man hade kunnat be om det i receptionen. Vi hade i önskemål, önskat specifika saker och de hade uppfyllt våra behov bra.
Det enda och mindre positiva var att det saknades kylskåp på rummet och ännu viltigare ingen vattenkokare för möjlighet till varm dryck på kvällen.
När vi kom på em fanns det kaffe i allmänna utrymmen. Vi valde att gå ut först och kom tillbaka till hotellet vid 19-tiden och tänkte att det skulle vara gott med te/kaffe/choklad, men då var behållarna tömda och inga termosar och heller inget meddelande om att man hade kunnat be om det i receptionen. Då vi hade en av sviterna, så tyckte vi att det hade varit toppen om det hade funnits en utrustad minibar.

Rummet var mysigt, hotellets allmänna ytor var fina. Sängen var bra, lite snålt med kuddar. Men badrummet var inte bra! Dörren var trögstängd och gav oljud, badkaret hade stora rostfläckar och skulle varit utbytt för många år sedan. Handfatet och blandare var gammalt och slitet.

Hotellet er rigtig godt og hyggeligt, men aftensmaden var ikke god. Vi sendte en senet bøf tilbage til køkkenet og fik istedet seks kedelige burgere. Deres eneste fordel var, at de kunne tygges.

Ett väldigt fint och mysigt värdshus! Charmen slår en direkt när man kliver in genom dörrarna, särskilt då alla hotellrum har en unik inredning. Maten i restaurangen var otrolig, liksom servicen överlag.

Mycket trevligt bemötande vid incheckningen och erbjudande om uppgradering till en svit som visade sig vara helt fantastisk med utsikt över Mälaren och Gripsholms Slott. Hela hotellet är charmigt och mysigt. På kvällen åt vi en trevlig middag i trädgården.

The temperature in the room was 14 degree celsius, when we arrived. With all heaters on we managed to get the temerature up to 18 - which is way too cold for our liking.
