I asked for a non-smoking room but got a smoking one which even after cleaning smelled of smoke for 2 days.
The lobby lounge had few alchohol choices with most brands out of stock and no live band. The staff were few and somewhat clueless.

I am very satisfied with this hotel. The staff at the front desk could communicate with us in Cantonese during the check-in process. He also upgraded our room. We asked the hotel's check-out time the night before check-out, and the staff immediately took the initiative to delay our check-out for us, but in the end we did not delay check-out. The staff took the initiative to help and friendly. Although this hotel is more than ten years, it has been well maintained. There is no odor in the room and no sewage odor in the bathroom. The overall room is very satisfactory and the bed is very comfortable and also exceeding my expectations. There is a large shopping mall nearby, which is very convenient for shopping and eating. We had buffet dinner at the hotel on New Year's Eve. Although there were not many varieties, the price was reasonable. Some of the seafood was not too fresh. I hope the hotel will improve it. I stay again next time.

The hotel is well located. close to pretty much everything in the city. Staff is friendly and helpful, nothing to criticize. The only thing is it is not well equipped or needs some refurbishment for its five star: for example TV doesn't support HD or internet

Don't expect 5 star hotel quality

It is a brand new hotel but cleaning was always dirty. The hotel entrance way is so busy and it is very difficult to find the entrance. Price is higher than other hotels and quality is worse than other hotel in this area.

The only western branded hotel in Shantou

This is a nice hotel, and offers a bit of familiarity for culture shocked foreigners. It has all the quality you would expect from a Sheraton. The room is clean, comfortable and remarkably affordable. The staff is friendly, but English abilities range from good to non-existent. Western food options are quite limited, but there is a nice new mall nearby that has a variety of food options (including western food).

Lavish Hotel next to SuNing Mall

The hotel staff are polite and helpful. A little hiccup occurred during the final day where the room card fails to work after 12 noon. I suspected that the staff had not registered my late check out time of 130pm. I called the helpdesk with the hotel phone at and was told someone will be assisting with the door. And so I waited to no one arriving. And so I marched myself to the front desk to get help and the service staff swiftly get my issue solved.

The room is well-prepared with almost everything needed for a nice stay - coffee powder with a french press, chinese tea, english tea, condiments, drinking water, hair dryer, bath towel, face towel, hand towel, shampoo, body soap, lotion, conditioner, comb, shower cap, sewing kit, shoe tongue, umbrella, weighing scale.

The bathroom is separated into 3 sections - the shower, the WC and the tap/bathtub area. The bed is firm and pillows are soft. There is a couch with foot rest, a work table with swivel chair.

There are limited authentic local dining options near the hotel. Walk a further 10 minutes to Longyan market and one can find real local eats.

Overall, it has been a luxurious and comfortable stay.

We stayed at the Sheraton Shantou from 13-20th June. The hotel looked somewhat impressive.
However, it was smokey on a non smoking floor. Local people shouting and leaving their room doors opened, smoking on corridors. On the fourth day, windows on both rooms started to leak badly. The housekeeping left towels to soak up the rain. We were offered room change but it was simply too much effort and time involved as we were a group that consisted of elderly couple and an active toddler.

Requested a non smoking room before arrival, got a room on no smoking floor, but the room still smell like stale cigarette smoke , reported to the hotel front desk , but not much done . No such thing as no smoking room in China , all depends on your luck !

The International Hotel to stay at Shantou

Guess the only international chain in the vicinity and it did live up to expectations.
Clean, comfortable room and prompt service.
Till others open up, this is really the only option for international brands. Limited choice on Hotels.com as I see other boutique around the area. Otherwise, great location with mall next to it.

As we are there for a holiday , Hotel should offer some local tour package. We find hard to move around the city as there is lack of Taxi and the hotel car service is way too expensive .
One good thing of the hotel is it offer extended checkout time till 3pm upon request .
