NEverything about the hotel is superb from room to buffet food offered, the Onsen pools and self service laundry facilities. They also have professional violin entertainment in the evenings.

While the hospitality is unique with ladies in kimono bowing & greeting upon arrival & departure, the only odd thing, is no luggage assistance at all and we wonder how the elderly are able to cope.

It is located near the Ainu village. There is only one main street selling souvenirs and a watson store.
There is a path around lake Akan that you can stroll on. That is about 20 minutes walk from the hotel.

The onsen on the eight floor was beautiful overlooking the lake akan, but i did not get to use it. They have funky system, odd days women use eight floor. The men use the basement onsen. On even day it’s reversed.

The onsen on the basement is still good.

The dinner and breakfast buffet are excellent.

We really enjoyed our stay at Akan Yuku no Sato Tsuruga. The buffet dinner is a good option if you have picky eaters in your group. It’s a good location and the staff are all lovely. We got a room with a private onsen which was a wonderful addition. Would highly recommend and hope to be back soon.

It’s a bit of an unusual place. It is marketed as having a connection to the Ainu community. Perhaps in a similar way how casinos on Native American reservations are marketed. The place is sort of in the middle of nowhere. But it seems very popular domestically with large crowds present. The dining is buffet style and it can get pretty crowded. The food quality is pretty good though with a wide range of food including Japanese, Chinese, and Western. The onsen is split between the basement level and eight floor between men and women on alternating days. I only went to the basement level onsen (it also seems like guests at this hotel also has access to the onsen in the next door Wings hotel, which I didn’t go to either). The basement level onsen had sort of a dark cave theme, which differed from the two other onsens I’ve been to on this trip. I’m guessing the hotel was built in the 70s. My room was a bit dated. The bathroom had a bit of an old urine smell. The room had just about everything sort of like how the long term stay hotels in the US are like (refrigerator, dishware, etc), which I don’t find necessary. Overall I find it kind of had a Vegas vibe

Authentic Japanese onsen resort. Reserved Japanese Western Room with Premium Kaiseki Dinner. Room with lake view included 2 rooms, one for sitting and other for sleeping. Included private bathroom which was clean and modern. Given Japanese robe and lounge ware to wear to onsen. This was a huge and spectacular onsen covering 2 floors with indoor and outdoor baths. Enjoyed large breakfast buffet and gourmet private dining experience. Very elaborate and meticulous and delicious. The best Kaiseki dinner we had over the course is our one month travel in Japan. Also close to walking trails around the lake. Located within walking distance to everything. Would definitely stay here again.

Really nice spa and buffet! This is a large hotel that pays attention to detail. The staff are excellent and friendly, multiple languages spoken wit hi in the hotel staff. The spa is very impressive, and worth the price of the hotel. Buffet food is excellent in taste and quality, very hard to do on such a large scale, but Tsuruga at Akan does it splendidly. I had a very wonderful experience from check in to check out.

Amazing view of Lake Akan, very wide option types of onsen, big room with attentive details and reasonable quality of meals. Lake view rooms are quite pricey though. Dun forget to check out the optional paid tours, the early morning coffee tour offers excellent view of sunrise on the frozen lake!

When you arrive you are greeted at the entrance by many staff members. They take your bags and valet your car so be ready for service. I wished we showed up better dressed. We were upgraded to the rewa wing where we enjoyed a foot bath of onsen water. It smells sulfuric but feels nice. The rooms were clean spacious and decorative. The town is all about ainu culture. Many of the vendors overlap in the items for sale but their prices were also competitive toward each other. You will also see some of the wood carvings for sale in other parts of hokkaido but here you can get them engraved. Check out the ainu theater. Also there was a ainu light show which we wished we booked. We ate at the hotels main buffet which was superb and offered foods from Japan, China, and west. There was seriously too many things to try so take your pick and eat your fill.

Huge hotel very geared up to international as well as Japanese travellers. The rooms were spacious and well equipped. The separate check in for executive rooms was helpful and the process of reaching the room by leaving shoes at the entrance to the floor was fun but time consuming. The hotel was flexible enough to enable us to upgrade our son's package to include a Kaiseki dinner instead of buffet with us on 2 nights but not flexible enough to offset the cost against downgrading our own dinners to the buffet on the other night so that we could all eat together, and service was a bit impersonal - otherwise we would have awarded top marks.

Amazing! The weather interfered with our plans to hike Mt. Meakan so we did other enjoyable things like forest hikes, boat trip to the Marimo Center, etc. The big issue at the hotel was the lack of English spoken by the staff. We all need instructions and recommendations and the staff, however lovely and anxious to be helpful, couldn’t effectively communicate with us. This is unacceptable. For the population at large not to speak English is understandable but professionals in the tourist industry should be required to do so.

Stayed as a couple for 2 nights. The decorations were aplenty upon entering the lobby whilst the double room itself was quite simple in comparison.

The facilities such as the private/family onsen were very clean and well maintained. The included buffet breakfast and dinner were an added bonus.

Be aware this is a hotel that seems to house several tour groups as we encountered many throughout our stay.

I'd like to highlight the helpful staff of the hotel, especially to staff member Kitaya at the front desk. He went above and beyond with all our requests and even helped track down my lost camera from the public bus.

Terrific Services!!

It was really a terrific experience to be able to stay at Akan Tsuruga (鹤雅). We paid abit more to have room with lake view and it was really really beautiful. Services were super and the staff were very attentive. We really have a wonderful stay there and hope to be back next time. Be it hotel, sceneries, food or services, this hotel deserves a 4.9/5 rating.

Good but service lacking in restaurant.

The check in was excellent. However, the onsen was quite a disappointment. The 8/9 floor onsen was like an old style swimming pool and didn't smell good. The water was also not fantastic. I dreaded going to the 8/9 floor onsen.

On the other hand, the ground/ basement onsen was pretty good in terms of design. But water was still average.

Breakfast and dinner selection were good though not high quality food - since it's really a buffet.

My daughter was choking on food and threw up. The response of the staff were appalling. Not only were they not sympathetic, they wanted us to leave the restaurant immediately though we hadn't finished our breakfast. They passed us a medical report and treated us like some poisonous dirty contaminated creatures whom should leave the restaurant immediately. That was really not a good experience.

Otherwise all else were good including the room.

Ainu Kotan is just ard 5 mins walk..
Food - very good quality and the table laying allow some privacy while u dine..
Onsen have a lot of pools to try. I really like it.

If you really dun wan the half board option, there is a Lawson just outside the hotel and some small restaurant too..

A different 5 star hotel

The hotel room is in VIP section, very spacious and decorated with artistic touch. Bath room is also spacious with two basins. We did not have chance to bath in the room though because the hotel has two gorgeous onsen. One on 8th floor and one on B1 floor. The 8th floor has one big hot spring in the roof with 360 degree view of Lake Akan and mountains. I love the B1 floor onsen more because it is so big and has so many different pools. Decoration in these hot springs are also very artistic with Ainu factor well included. Our package included dinner and breakfast. The food are very good quality with Japanese, Chinese, and western style. I don't like the format of buffet though. With the price we pay, we actually expect dinner and breakfast in our room. But I guess it is not so possible in a big hotel like this one but more possible in small Japanese style hotel. And because we stayed there for two nights, so we had two same dinner buffet and two same breakfast buffet, which was a bit boring. The VIP lounge has drinks and most surprisingly, they offer kimono lending. You can also choose pillow in the lounge, which are all very cute. Overall, we love this hotel because of the well decorated room and great onsen.

Super nice Hot Springs

A friend of mine in Hokaiddo recommend me this hotel, said it is the most famous one in Hokaiddo.

The hotel is located right outside of lake Akan. It was a 2 hours bus ride from Kushiro Station plus 6 hours train from Sapporo Station.

To be honest, it was really difficult for a traveller who does not drive because there are only 3 buses a day from Kushiro station to the hotel and many of the travel spots in East Hokkaido is not non-driver friendly.
Thats why I really suggest that if you are going to lake akan, make sure you have schedule enough time for you whole trip cause often time you would find yourself in a middle of nowhere.

However, I was really impressed when I arrived the hotel.

As what you would expect when you are visiting Japan, the staff there knows only very little english but they are always very keen to help. Plus And THE VIEW FROM THE HOT SPRING LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE PHOTO THEY HAVE ON THERI WEBSITE !!!! And it was magnificent. I have been to many hot springs and this one was truly impressive.

They have a lot of activities in winter on Lake Akan including ice fishing and skating ….. but I think all these can be done in somewhere else.
So in short :
Winter---> hot Spring, order free shuttle bus from the hotel , leave at 9.40 the next morning
Summer---> visiting lake akan on a boat, hot spring ( not as good as it is in winter tho)

I love the feel of this resort. The onsen is old though spacious. A must try is the bar at the tsugara wings. Drinks are good and so cheap. Try japanese whiskey. The Ainu room is nice with a foot spa just outside room for guests at this area only. Nice touch. A big far ride to lake Akan though. Love the bus ride though as the views along the way is pretty interesting.

Love this hotel. Had stayed in other Tsuruga resort but this beats all the others in terms of service and the room condition.The onsen on the Ground floor is the best i had visited. Big with many different baths. Some with massage; some with cave design; I love them all. The Hapo buffet is great too. The sashimi is fresh and besides japanese selection, there is chinese, korean, italian... drinks section is filled with many choices too. There is also a kids section for the food too; finger foods; chicken nuggets and cute little cakes for the kids to choose from. Will definitely stay here again. However, the wifi signal are a little weak; which needs some improvement.

ホテル内で完結できます。
お土産を購入し、風呂、サウナを満喫できました。
夕食と朝食のビュッフェは選びきれないほどの種類があり、どれも美味しかったです。
朝のスムージーがお気に入りです。

ベッドも柔らかすぎず、硬すぎずで枕も丁度良く、快適でした。

宿泊者が多いため混雑していました。ビュッフェでの飲み物のコップをお盆に載せていますが、上段のカップがなくなり、下段に移るためのお盆をどこに置くのか分からず、皆さん困っていましたので、なるべく近くにスタッフさんがいて気にしてもらえればと思います。
部屋のエアコンが自動で温度調整できると尚有難いです。
エアコンを入れてないと暑いのですが、寝ていると寒くなり過ぎてしまうこと、リモコンでの調整でもないため、起きて壁のスイッチをひねりに行かないと行けないため、寝てても寒い、暑いで起きるという状況でした。致し方ないとも思う反面、金額が金額なので改善されたらと願います。

改善点もありますが、そこまでの問題ではなく、また泊まりたいと思います。

お食事が想像以下で残念でした。どのメニューも味付けがおいしくありませんでした。天ぷらも冷たくなっており残念でした。ステーキより地元の野菜を使った天ぷらを揚げたてで食べたかったです。
朝食べた汁物はとても美味しかった。スタッフの方がよそってくれる鮭や大根等がはいった物でした。一番奥のコーナーにうどんと置いておくのはもったいなく、メインの和食コーナーに持っていったらもっとたくさんの方に食べてもらえるのではと思いました。

不知道甚麼原因酒店給我升級了房間,在此也謝謝酒店,房間窗外完全看到阿寒湖景色,但床好像比較細,睡的不太舒服,溫泉地方,溫度適中,令人舒服可以逗留多些時間
