Breakfast is cooked fresh, there is a hot tub and pool, and the grounds are immaculate! The hotel is high in the mountains so it is quiet and scenic. It is authentic Puerto Rico! It’s a family owned business and we loved that. They were helpful, informative and very customer service friendly. The villa is a little dated, but beautiful views. Very peaceful and accommodating. We had a wonderful stay at Serena Boutique Hotel in Aguas Buenas and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic Puerto Rican experience. From the moment we arrived, Ricardo made us feel incredibly welcome. He was always around the property, working hard to keep everything running smoothly and making sure guests were comfortable. His wife, Gloria, was also wonderful—she prepared fresh breakfast every morning, and it was always delicious.
One of the things we loved most about this place is how tucked away it is. It’s far from the busy city areas, which makes the experience feel unique and authentic. Even the drive there feels like you’re stepping into a different side of Puerto Rico. The property itself is beautiful, and you can really see how much care Ricardo puts into maintaining it.
If I could give one tip to future guests, it would be to rent a car if possible. If you stay out late in San Juan or other areas, it can be very difficult to get a Lyft or Uber to drive up to the property, as many drivers decline the trip. Ricardo is very kind and willing to help, but since it’s a small family running the hotel, we didn’t want to bother him late at night.
The only small thing we noticed was that some of the tiles could be a little slippery, especially since it rained quite a bit during our stay. Other than that, everything was fantastic.

The family made us feel at home. Excellent breakfast every morning. The pool and hot tub were an amazing way to relax after a full day of activities. The family cooked a very good authentic PR dinner one night and even ran out to pick us up dinner from a local restaurant one night. The property was amazing. Truely a hidden gem.

My two friends and I had an amazing stay! We spent the final night of my bachelorette holiday at the hotel, and it was exactly what we needed — relaxing, beautiful views, and great hospitality. The team were so accommodating and helpful, which made our stay perfect. The breakfast made it extra special too :)

Stay away. The photos/description are deceptive. There is no safe, no sauna, no swim up bar (it looks like it hasn't been used in decades and had a toilet stored in it), the pool bar had no personnel/nothing in it and is not functional. The plumbing doesn't work properly, the toilet is old and stained, the bedding is polyester and uncomfortable, the \"designer\" toiletries are the cheapest possible - no nice soaps, lotions or shampoo. The furniture is damaged, cheap furniture that has been painted. The shower was freezing cold. After complaining, were told to turn it on C to get H. Upon our arrival, surprised to see the condition of our \"Premium King\". There was another bed pushed into the corner and I was straining to see the sea view. The room smelled like an air freshener factory as there was an open bottle of a purple liquid which filled the room with a fake lavender fragrance. The rooms are supposed to be non-pet rooms, but the owner's dog ran into our room and hid under the furniture. We tried to get it out but it started to growl. The owner, reeking of cigar smoke, came into the room to retrieve his dog. We were not given a device to open the gate until the next day. In fact, we were locked in because the gate locks upon exiting. There was paint spilled on the floor, no cups in the room, no coffee maker. The saving grace of this place is the hot tub. Just watch out for the broken flower pot. Breakfast was OK, but lacked oatmeal, yogurt, etc. We left ASAP.

Beyond beautiful room and the Continental breakfast included like many hotels offers... Scramble eggs, bacon/pankakes, and yogurt that we all gets that is a unfrozen breakfast... at SERENA they make it fresh at the moment and a magical, delicious experience... Very serene and peaceful property in the mountains. Beautiful view. The staff was very hospitable and welcoming. The homemade breakfast cooked by Risbel and Glory was delicious. During our stay, a hurricane was passing, Risbel, Ricardo, Joseph, and Glory were very accomodating, turning on a generator when electricity was out and updating us on the weather and severity of the hurricane. The property is very safe. We were provided a remote to open the gate that secures the property. My girls enjoyed the pool. Ricardo invited them to help feed the chickens. Risbel was awesome at recommending things to do and places to eat. I would highly recommend Serena Boutique Hotel.

Highly recommend a vehicle for exploring outside the immediate area. Beautiful views and setting. The property is still a work in progress and imagine it will be really amazing once completed.

We didn’t rent a car so they ran to the store and bought us whatever we needed, took us on a 4 hour tour, cooked amazing breakfast’s each morning. If you are looking for an authentic Puerto Rican experience then this is the place for you. The caregivers of this place go above and beyond to make your stay memorable. It is up in the mountains so I recommend a 4WD vehicle. Beautiful surroundings, great breakfast and wonderful people!

The property was located in the middle of a Rainforest with a view of San Juan and the ocean. It was beautiful lots of flowers and lush greenery. Very quiet and fell asleep at night to the Coquis. Racardo and Gloria go out of the way to make you fell comfortable and welcome! Gloria breakfasts are amazing! You could not ask for a better stay if you want to experience the hospitality and the people if Puerto Rico!!!

Ricardo and his family were amazing! They were helpful, generous with their dining recommendations, and just overall exceptional. Luckily, we rented a 4WD, which was ABSOLUTELY necessary given the steep, unpaved access road to the property. The room was delightful, clean, and spacious. The property, including the pool, suffered from years of deferred maintenance. The pictures on Expedia look like they were taken YEARS ago. We almost checked out immediately but the staff were too amazing to leave.

This is a hidden gem! I always enjoy unique places to stay and this fit the bill. Very welcoming, felt like I was visiting family. Take note of other reviews about the driveway conditions and directions. I am a country girl so it didn’t bother me, but it is a bit tricky. The rooster added charm and I enjoyed the early wake up call. I would definitely come back for another stay!

Something to note; this property is under renovation after years of neglect. While it was perfect for us, we were not in the market for a resort. The hot tub was warm at best and same goes for the shower. There are areas that you can’t access for your own safety but still plenty of room.

You can still see the luxury and opulence that this mountain estate once represented. We felt it everywhere for the week we stayed. But it was the management that made us feel most special. Ricardo and his family took us in and showed us a type of hospitality that we can only describe as gracious. We were invited to dinners on the rooftop patio, breakfast was always generous, the pool and hot tub were activated on our request and moreover we felt at home in this peaceful tropical retreat. Hacienda was great. The whole island was without power when we arrived, so we were in good hands in survival-mode with Ricardo and Glory. But the island in darkness, and the view from the Hacienda was fantastic for festivities and the joy of Nature!

Couldn’t ask for a better view or more attentive staff. Room was clean and ready before checkin time. They went out of their way to accommodate and make us feel at ease. The property is still being refurbished, but those areas completed were wonderful. Only concern was the driveway. You must have a 4-wheel drive or arrange to park offsite and have them pick you up.

The family living there is super friendly and very nice but it sucks that we were charged $200 for 2-3 5-minutes rides, wasn’t told beforehand that it would be extra, only airport pick up and drop off to Condado Beach was agreed. Their breakfast was very good and delicious, wish we could stay here again but I don’t it.

The grounds are just wonderful and the view of San Juan at night is impeccable. Beautiful property with breathtaking views and a gracious and responsive staff. The pool is amazing - very large, well maintained and clean (without the use of a lot of chlorine). There are areas on the grounds that are undergoing renovations but that didn't affect our stay (no loud noises, etc.) You will be staying high up in the mountains so, for those who plan to drive their own car, keep in mind that the roads can be very steep and winding (we were told to rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle and were very glad that we did). All in all, a beautiful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of San Juan (about a 20-to-30-minute drive to the beach). We would definitely recommend.
