Looks good on the surface until you sleep in a bed so narrow you will fall of it if you roll while you sleep. Very noisy with a bar open until late and shouty clients. Cleaning staff stole something pricey enough from my bad but not used often enough for me to notice until I had checked out (clever!). Avoid this hotel.

Nice hotel and great staff. However, a light under the bedside table kept coming on and off randomly in the early hours - several times a night. I asked the front desk to have someone sort it out on 3 occasions and it was never dealt with. 7 night stay with very interrupted sleep. Won’t stay here again. Apparantly lots of people have complained about these lights. They need to remove them as they add no value other than ambience - which isn’t required at 4am!

Bar not manned most of the time gettìng served took time! Reception staff very helpful and would fetch staff to serve. When weather improved so did seřvice!

The onsite restaurant is pretty and adequate. The rooms are basic, but the walk-in rain shower is nice. Bathroom amenities need an upgrade. They provide only a small sliver of soap and small bottle of body wash for washing and bathing. There are no washcloths, which probably means their clientele is mostly European.

This is my go-to when in Waterloo. The hotel is always spotless and you see constant cleaning and attention to every nook by dedicated staff. The rooms were all redecorated and are gorgeous. Sleek Euro business modern with warm tones and soft lighting with excellent beds. Staff is very attentive and happy to help make your stay, cocktail or meal enjoyable.

The room was average but modern. Good mattress. Rain shower head in the bathroom. It had a pretty restaurant that I had to walk around to get to my room. I had several meals in the restaurant that were good but not outstanding. It has a good local reputation. Unfortunately, I had the breakfast buffet one morning and was food poisoned with intestinal effect within the hour. The food had been out all morning. The hot food was hot, but was obviously not refreshed over the 4-5 hours.

The bed was uncomfortable. I requested a big bed but was given 2 uncomfortable singles. The room is in a different building than the reception & bar meaning you have to walk outside then in to join the bar & breakfast in the morning. The breakfast quality is not worth the money you pay for. The food is located in a dark area. The jam selection is poor, had no taste to it. The staff were overwhelmed, had to ask for a warm glass of milk and was told “wait” maybe a language barrier.

Great hotel in Waterloo with fantastic service

As repeat visitors to the hotel both under previous and current management, we have always enjoyed our stays as it is in a very convenient location both for Waterloo itself and for Brussels, and the rooms of various sizes we have stayed in have always been good value for money.
Parking is free and easy, the new outside bar /dining area is a nice addition
Breakfast (buffet) was always included previously and no longer is as a Van der Valk hotel, so that would be my one negative point.
But this was the first time we also had dinner at the restaurant though and it certainly won't be the last as we found the food and service were very good. Considering how busy the restaurant was both with locals and guests, it is definitely a sign of ongoing quality.

When checking into our room, we found that the air conditioning in our room was not working, which was a worry in the current hot weather. We immediately asked reception if it could be looked at. We were informed some rooms have issues with air conditioning due to ongoing upgrades in the hotel, but the receptionist then went out of his way to find us an alternative room with working air conditioning and he eventually did.
I can not say enough how friendly and helpful he was and how much more enjoyable he made our stay.

Large hotel conveniently located on the outskirts of Brussels with quick access to the motorway and Waterloo town centre where there are plenty of sightseeing and shopping opportunities.

The rooms are large and well fitted out.
Heating is not ideal, with a single radiator hidden behind some furniture which, in spite of the time of year, had been turned off before we arrived, which made for a very cold and uncomfortable few hours until the room eventually warmed up.

The bathroom was large, with good water pressure in the bath/shower, although we could have done with a longer shower curtain as ours did not quite reach the rim of the bath.

We didn't have dinner in the restaurant, but know it to be good from previous experience, We did have breakfast which was well-stocked with fresh supplies and set up to ensure adequate social distancing and cleanliness.

Parking is outdoors around 100 metres from the hotel front entrance (on the property) but the luggage drop-off area is wide and easily accessible.

Overall, in spite of the heating issue, we would happily go back on future trips.

The Grand Dame is Showing Her Age

The Grand Hotel no longer lives up to its name or the quality standards of Martin's Hotels. The facilities are showing their age and everything felt a bit more run down than my last stay a few years ago. There are far better values to be found in Waterloo (Ibis) as well as location and quality (Côté Vert).

While the hotel is rated 4 star I'm not sure it should be - our room was quite dated - the service however was excellent and the buffet breakfast had plenty of variety. We were disappointed with the location, it was a good 40 minute walk to the train station and there is a very limited choice for dinner in the area. Wifi was quick and reliable, there is a room safe but no fridge. Value for money? In our case, no.

Check your bill

I was asked for my credit card when checking in for 2 nights. As usual in hotels, I was told it was for any extras and that nothing would be charged to it otherwise. A week later I see that it was charged Euro 50 on that day and that this had not been credited back when I left. I know that this also happened to another guest, who then had to call the hotel and request repayment. It seems like a pattern, so check your bill.
The staff were helpful and the room was clean, but I would not stay there again.

Executive room - Shockingly disappointing

Don't be fooled by the photos on the website of this hotel. I booked an executive room and received a room that I would expect from a hostel... very dark decor, very old and tired furniture, dirty carpet, no shower, no slippers and basic toiletries (not as on the pictures), no iron or coffee making facilities (a small bottle of water on the desk instead), very noisy air conditioning, room didn't feel clean either. They put bathrobes on the bed, but that doesn't make a damp an executive room! I asked at the reception if I received the right room and they confirmed that this was the correct room, I don't even want to think how their standart room looks like - shocking! For €170 I would expect something of a way better standard. Will not be staying there again and do not recommend - there is plenty of other way nicer and cheaper places in the area.

first of all, it was not Katrin who stayed, but Jean Louis, as you should know.

it feels a little strange to be given a room for disabled person, without any explaination.
I would have accepted it anyway, had it been the last available room; but reception should think about asking and informing before handing the keys.
the room was all right anyway, the bathroom being fitted only with a shower and no bath.

Overall experience was great. Friendly staff, excellent room, great food. It was a little more 'high class' than I expected. I was on a quick 4-day trip with lots of sight-seeing and I was alone. I packed light and was entirely focused on local attractions. As a laid-back traveler who spent little time in the room, I definitely could have found something a little more modest. Every person I saw at the hotel and in the hotel restaurant was dressed in business casual (at minimum), yet there I was reinforcing the rustic American stereotype in my jeans and Under Armour t-shirt. A Lambo was parked in front when I left for sightseeing on the first morning. If I was traveling with my family or just my significant other, then I would've felt more comfortable. But as a single traveler who is content in a hostel, I felt a bit out of place. Of course, this certainly doesn't take away from the hotel. It was a great stay - clean, quiet, comfortable. My only complaint is the same I normally have - the rooms could be significantly cooler. I couldn't drop the thermostat below 24 C, and I prefer 19-20 C.

Arrived at Midnight, waited outside in the cold ringing on doorbell and noone answered for 10 mins..... in -2° , never experienced that! Man at reception never apologized just acted as if its normal. Heating in rooms don't work properly, was freezing all night.
The rooms smell of stale, and the overall condition is extremely bad. Oh heater that doesn't work is very noisy....

We booked a Superior Room (323sq. ft) in Martins Grand Hotel. We requested twin beds. At the time of booking there were 5 rooms available at the rate of £90, which we paid.
The booking confirmation stated our bed preference and that the room was guaranteed for late check in until 12.00 midnight.
We arrived at 10.45pm to be told they couldn't give us a room in the hotel with twin beds as they were fully booked!

They could only offer a smaller room (258 sq ft) with twins in the adjoining Martins Hotel. I pointed out to the indifferent desk staff the hotel next door was cheaper than the Grand, (he tried to argue it was more expensive than we had paid) and to take it up with his manager in the morning , who would be in at 7.00am, we left at 6.30am so no luck there.

The room had no tea/coffee facilities, nor any stock in the mini bar. It felt like a \"stand by\" room. That said it was clean, comfortable and the shower worked well.

I would have happily given the Martins Hotel a higher rating if it was the one I booked, just not what we booked!

A great stay

We found the reviews helpful when choosing this hotel. The breakfast was indeed wonderful.
The lady at reception, Sarah, was very professional, helpful and thoughtful upon our arrival. Our room was ready a little earlier than the check in time giving us some time to rest before our walk to the battlefields.
The room was a great size and had everything we needed. I would stay here again if I returned to Waterloo.

Other reviews in respect of noise are correct. It appears the doors are very thin which raises the question whether or not they are fire proof. The room smelled of mould and smoke although it was a non-smoking room. Breakfast is fairly minimal so don't expect much.
