The room was totally outdated. Poor lighting, cracks in the main door and bathroom door. People could actually see in! Creaky floor, rust on the sink, unsafe shower (entry/exit and stability in shower...no railings). Just not a nice room.

Love the warmth and lobby’s wood-burning fireplace. Some of the amenities could be updated (EV chargers were broken, the fitness center was messy and missing weights) but there are few inns this charming in New England, and at this price level.

Great stay. The only thing I would say - and I’ve been staying at the hotel since the 80s - it might be time for a few updates here and there. It runs the risk of going from rustic charm to grandma’s house in the not tooooo distant future.

Red lion inn is such a vibe in the winter. We have been coming for 40 years. The rooms could use lots of TLC. Mold in the bathrooms, peeling wallpaper etc… there is no room service which tho there is dining in the hotel, the rates of $500 per night for the room, coffee in bed would have been nice. It’s an icon but basic TLC is needed.

I had always wanted to stay at The Red Lion Inn and decided to treat myself to a one-night stay. Since it was in December I was especially excited to have a fireplace in the room. Sadly, I learned the fireplace didn’t work and that they are renovating some of the systems, but offered no partial refund or other amenity to compensate. On the positive side, it is a dog-friendly ($$ fee) hotel with an outdoor heated pool. The queen size canopy bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is small and could benefit from a refresh. The staff were nice. I’m glad I made a dinner reservation a week in advance. Meals were fine with excellent service especially for dinner. The lobby was crowded and quite loud as was the pub. Overall it was OK. I’m glad I visited, but likely won’t return.

A magical, magical New England weekend at The Red Lion Inn. The room was so warm, the bed and pillows were so comfortable and just the right firmness. The pool and hot tube were open, maybe bring a swimsuit if you are up for a soak in the hot tub on a cold snowy day or night. Check in was a breeze, staff were warm and welcoming.
Highly recommend making reservations at their Tavern or Dining Area.

This is a quaint, charming, lovely decorated very old New England Inn. Given its age (135years) expect uneven and creaky wood floors and somewhat porous walls. Main dining room is very elegant. Make reservations well in advance because there is only one other venue for dining in town and it is not very good.

This is a historical hotel and indeed the history is fabulous, everything appears like it did in 1773. Trouble is the rooms are also like this and the beds felt like they were 200 years old - so very uncomfortable. All part of the experience. Our room faced the street and I was surprised how much traffic noise kept me up until late at night, next time I will request a room facing inward. Not enough staff at the bar and dining during peak weekends, took forever just to get a cup of hot chocolate for the kids. But, very quaint, beautiful, that Main Street is just classic.

Property is very old and run down. Holes in the building, paint falling off the building exterior etc. The interior was in just as poor condition. Dark and run down. Most windows didn’t open and were covered in cob webs and the ones that did didn’t have screens and slammed back down, the painted floors were just old and dirty, You could see outside around the door, the entire property is sold as rustic and charming but it’s just run down and poorly maintained especially for double or triple the money of the surrounding hotels. The area is walkable and the front porch is nice, but would not stay there even for half the rate.

We stayed in one of the houses on the property. The room was clean but we would have liked the balcony to be cleaned of leaves and some empty cans left there. They came to clean the room at 8:15 am and we asked for them to return later but they never did. For the 3 nights we stayed there the room was never cleaned. The pool was nice although the lounge chairs were soaking wet and we couldn't sit in them. The staff was nice, and the food and bar were good. For what we paid for the 3 nights it's not a very good value.

I loved that the RLI is an historical property full of antiques. The big front porch out front was a special feature, and it was great to just sit in a rocking chair with a cup of coffee in the morning and watch the world go by. I didn't realize there were other buildings that the RLI has, so next time I'm hoping to stay in the main building.

Overpriced property with poor customer service. I spent 3 nights at the RLI. My daughter is attending an area boarding school and was I looking for my go-to place for when I come to visit her. RLI will not be it. Firstly, my $1400+ rate did not include breakfast. Additionally, the simple request for hot water so that I could have my morning or evening tea, either went unanswered (front desk phone would ring and ring and ring) or would not be sent after speaking with someone. I did manage to get hot water when I went downstairs to retrieve it or on Sunday morning when someone brought it pretty quickly. Additionally, the internet is not secure for guests. When I asked why there was a staff secure access and not one for guests, I was told that that would be an upgrade in the future. If you plan on doing work while there, think again. I did not eat at the restaurant, so I cannot comment on the food. Also, plan on getting up really early as the cleaning crew comes around for housekeeping around 9:30. Overall, I would not revisit. You can get much better value at a Bed & Breakfast (and actually get breakfast) or at a chain hotel.

I love this Inn and stop there whenever I pass through. The rooms are all a bit different ans very vintage. Nice sheets and towels and Nespresso maker in the room. If you arrive late in the day almost all of the local shops are closed which I find to be a negative. There is a mini fridge in the room, however mine was set to a level which froze all my food. there is a window about 3’ x 2’ in the shower, which looks out on the parking area. There is no curtain shade or anything else covering it.! it looks like at one point it was painted over but it’s all come off. Overall, I definitely recommend this Inn, but there are some things that aren’t perfect.

There's a big difference between \"charm\" and \"neglect,\" especially in a room that costs $500 per night.

Is $500 a night appropriate for a bathroom with a old, peeling vinyl floor? Is it a good price for a room with a door so mis-shapen that there's a 1-inch gap between the top of the door and the doorframe, so you can peer into the room when the door is shut? Is $500 a night deserved for a room with a bedspread so old, it's been worn straight through in places (holes).

You can decide for yourself. Just know what to expect.

The hotel was very nice, well kept, and clean on the inside and had its characteristic charm. The pool area was gorgeous and very relaxing. We loved the charm and the way the property sprawled around the cute town square. Our room was very spacious, clean and the bed was super soft and comfy. However, we felt that some of the outside details were lacking (unmowed lawns, chipping paint). We also had very slow (had to ask to order after more than 30 minutes at the worst) service in two of the restaurants.

This was perhaps our 5th stay at the Red Lion Inn though our first in many years. It’s a lovely property. We were in one of the houses which had a nice central living area where we held “happy hour” each evening. The property is clean, well furnished and beds are comfortable. It isn’t a modern “luxury” property. It is a very nice historic one with helpful staff in a wonderful location. We ate at the main restaurant which was good but not great. There are lots of fabulous food options around (especially in Lennox) Great bakery with lots of gluten free options up the street at the Lost Lamb as well.

Quaint but needs updating

I was very excited to stay at the Red Lion Inn. The outside of the Inn was charming, the inside had beautiful antiques and furniture, however the floor and carpeting were in terrible condition. The girl at the front desk rolled her eyes at me when I asked about the haunted room. She said I’ve been here 3 years and there’s nothing. Now I’m not a ghost hunter, but I thought it was cool that it could be haunted. The bathroom in our room was DISGUSTING. There was some gooey stuff in the sink that would not come clean, even after housekeeping. Although I love the old charm, the bathroom had a big claw foot tub with a shower that was some cheap metal rod with a shower head. There was no shelf to hold toiletries. It was extremely small and the toilet was very low to the ground. Idk how someone tall could sit comfortably. I do appreciate the charm, and the overall vibe, but get some new carpet and get rid of the nasty sink in room 320

It is a very old building and old town and it really shows. Felt like a ghost was going to pop out at every corner. There is a musty smell everywhere. The Heater/AC unit in our room did not work but the windows did so luckily the weather was not harsh. If you like that kind of thing then this is the place.

Safe and comfortable. We came very early in the season. We came to see the Divine Mercy Center. It was very moving . The location is great for this, but it is not a walkable route (no one said it was!). Breakfast was very good and reasonably priced. Room was comfortable and warm. Dinner prices were quite high. Would stay again.

IThe Red Lion Inn is an institution. The porch, the shop, there’s even a pool in back. It’s a wonderful place and is clearly well run. The ambiance is very pleasant. Not hyper but friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay in a really nice room on the 4th floor. The bathroom was huge and clean and recently updated. I’m eager to stay again. We were there very early in the Spring. High season will be a different vibe. The nearby Norman Rockwell Museum was worth a visit but costs $45 for 2 senior rate entries. Plan to stay a couple of hours to get you money’s worth.

The Red Lion Inn Has Lost Its Roar

I was excited to finally stay at the Red Lion Inn after having admired its grandeur from afar when passing through Stockbridge. My husband and I have a penchant for historic hotels and we were ready to check this one off the list. Though the staff working in the front lobby were attentive and kind, we did have issues in other areas of the hotel. We ate in both the tavern and the main dining room but, unfortunately, found the service to be just okay. Our server was not overly friendly in the tavern and did not look to check up on us. When we decided that we wanted dessert and tea, she seemed oddly annoyed. In the main dining room, my husband received the wrong omelette order, and by the time we were able to see our waiter to flag him down, a good ten minutes had passed. Yet, all of this pales in comparison to our actual room stay. The bed in our room was lumpy and worn out and the frame loudly creaked with every movement, so no one woke up feeling rested. Also, there were small bloodstains on the linens, the sink was stained blue, and the upholstered chairs had areas worn through to the thread. Also, a good number of room doors have large gaps at the top. This combined with the paper-thin walls makes it easy to hear conversations in adjacent rooms. In addition to the initial high cost to stay, a preservation fee is charged for each night; we didn’t see where those funds were aptly applied. We checked the hotel off the list and were disappointed with what we discovered.
