We had a great stay at the Butterfly Farm! Chris the owner was a delight, food at the restaurant was delishious and fresh, and it was close to all the attractions around Litchfield. The property looks a bit dated, but it was still clean and comfortable.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The host/owner was so friendly and made it. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was well priced and delicious. we loved the butterfly farm and all of the animals and the kids got to feed the animals. A unique hotel and well worth the stay

Could not use the kettle as it was filthy and had to go to the tavern for dinner (which was excellent) as nothing on their menu seemed to be available. We still had a great stay and would definitely recommend staying here

A unique place

Comfortable farm stay

Comfortable farm stay nested among a butterfly house and teeming with pond life, rabbits, ducks, chickens, larger farm animals and a resident snake and crocodile.

Interesting and hands-on for the kids - get up close and feed the various animals.

Restaurant provides homestyle meals - they're alright, but Gordon Ramsay wouldnt be impressed.

The 'no outside food or drinks' note in the hotels.com listing is a bit aggressive. It only applies to the restaurant, so you can byo whatever you want to your rooms.

If you're travelling with kids, ask for a cabin near the front so you dont have to trek through the park.

Told there was no hair dryer available though listed in description.

Cabin and bathroom could use some more storage and bench space.

Bed was comfortable, room was clean and tidy.

Owner is quite quirky - lovely guy. The artwork on the room walls is just as unique. Its well done and fits in with the theme of the place.

I reccommend staying there if you're planning to visit the farm anyway. At night the extra wildlife comes out and you get to frolick with the frogs and the lizards.

Overall, we were content with our stay but I feel that a 3-star accommodation rating is a bit generous.

I didn't stay there! Upon my arrival ~5pm the place was closed with a note on the gate that it will re-open the next day. Obviously I couldn't seat there overnight so I found alternative accommodation. I complained about that with request of the refund to your contact email - it was ignored so far... Very bad service!!!

O.K. If you have kids who love animals

Facilities very basic with a small noisy refrigerator in the room that kept us awake at night. The butterflies, fish and rabbits provide a diversion if you have kids, but did not justify paying a premium relative to other accommodation we have experienced in the Northern Territory.

nice fun place for kids and bigger kids

This is a place is no only a great place to sleep/stay & eat, but its a great place for kids to explore. Chris the owner makes you feel a home, and his wife is an excellent chef.
There are all types of butterfly's, rabbits and other animals that are big hit with the kids.
The night we were there a street performer/entertainer \"Mozzie\" from the Darwin Mindle night Markets was performing for all the guest, apparently Chris has been booking \"Mozzie\" for certain nights to entertain the guest. The show was excellent, it was aimed at kids but the big kids had a great laugh. The room was large and quite comfortable. My daughter and I had a great time here. We only stayed 1 night but should of stayed for at least 2. Its a bit eclectic and a great place to stay.

The kids really enjoyed feeding the animals (goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, and bunnies). They were entertained all day long.

We also made fun day trips to Litchfield National Park.

The children loved this place. They stayed busy feeding the animals all day long. The owners are wonderful and very helpful.

Do not expect a fancy hotel. You are staying on a farm. It is as described, a wonderful place for anyone to who wants to be out with nature and have a great time.

Don't judge a book by its cover!

The Butterfly Farm is, literally, an oasis in the middle of nothing. Don't be mistaken by the presence from the road. Even if it seems not well cared from the outside, it is a really cozy inn. The guys running the place were super nice, and made our stay a very pleasant surprise.

They also have a little animal farm and lots of butterflies that are really worth the visit.

Family friendly getaway

We stayed overnight so we could have two full days in Litchfield Park and we were not disappointed. Chris and Angel made us feel like part of the family and went out of their way to make sure that my kids had a great time; helping to feed the animals etc.

Out of the Box

Forget all your past experiences, this one is new and unique. Embrace the fantasy of a lush oasis in the middle of a very dry and baron outback Australian village. Chris the owner is a character. Although my daughter did not quite know where to place him she loved it: bunnies to cuddle, butterflies to land on your nose, goats to feed and turkey and piglets - a childs dream. The relaxed and friendly nature of the staff leaves everyone feeling quite relaxed and happy to take a moment into a world that is .... as I said, unique. My kids are 11, 8, 6: and all three loved it.

The Butterfly and Pet Farm is an alternative style hotel for visitors to Litchfield. We had 2 rooms for 2 nights.
The rooms are basic, clean, Bachelor is a remote location in between Kakadu and Litchfield. The room value is good.

A Very Different Experience

Animal and nature lovers will enjoy their stay at the Butterfly Farm, which also houses rabbits, ducks, geese, chooks, pigs and goats that you can feed with provided carrots etc. It is an eclectic little piece of heaven that Chris has built up over 21 years. He is a very passionate man and this comes out in his special little hideaway. The accommodation is basic but pleasant and each room has a theme. Meals too are basic but portions are generous and well-prepared and the service comes from the heart. I love the large deck area around the quirky reception/bar/restaurant with large, irregular-shaped mahogany tables that Chris has built himself from the raw materials. This is not a 5-star snooty hotel - it is a down-to-earth no frills welcoming place for people who want quiet relaxation and the chance to meet many winged and furry friends. Great for kids!

A Splash of Bright Colour.

We loved our stay at the Butterfly Farm. It was truly a fun and unique experience. Chris is a character, and a great host, he had lots of funny stories and made us all feel very welcome. I highly recommend this accommodation if you're passing through the town, you won't regret it.

Quirkly place with a laid back atmosphere

First impression was that the place was rather disorganised. However staying at the Butterfly farm should be viewed as a an experience unlike any you will get at a Hilton or Sheraton, and will be remembered long after as well. The hosts were very friendly and engaging. We ate in the restaurant but the food was rather bland.

Cockroach Farm more like

Not sure if anything else in this area is better as its in Bachelor. Miserable little town with miserable people. The main cheese of this hotel reminded me of Al Pacino in Scarface. He was loud and obnoxious. First thing he said to us was to insult europeans and call them stupid for not knowing how to use air con or their toilets. I guess he missed the accent on my European girlfriend.

Rooms were filthy, shower had piles of dirt in each corner, the ponds on the grounds stunk like sewage. I felt dirty just walking into the place. The meal we had was the worst I have had in quite a number of years (and I frequent a lot of restaurants). We decided to grab food at the local take out, which was not too bad for fast food (fried stuff). The take out claims to have the best coffee in Bachelor (and surprisingly it was good...hehe).

Friendly Super market next door had awesome bread, baked fresh!

Stayed for one night while visiting Litchfield park, its about one hours drive. The room was fine, bed was comfortable, room had a tv with not great reception, coffee making facilities, a fridge. There were bed side tables and plenty of power points. We had dinner there, adult menu items start at 24 dollars. My steak meal was excellent. WiFi available for $5 but we didn't use it. Chris was very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed seeing the butterfly farm.

The accomodation is set around a butterfly house and many rabbit enclosures, with an ornamental pond and swimming pool. A very unique setting, but well worth a visit. The rooms are themed around various fairy tale or other themes - we were in the Alice in Wonderland suite. The rooms are excellent and very good value, while the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. A must if you want good accomodation and a fun experience.

We love it here. It was our 2nd visit. Chris does a marvellous job making people feel welcome and works very hard along with his wife and volunteers to maintain the facilities. We love that all the rooms have a different theme and the animals and butterflies add to the quirkiness and interest of the butterfly farm. The food is also great.

Nice spacious room and close to Litchfield National Park. Only one towel (for two) in the room on arrival but the staff gave us extra towels on request. No shampoo, only soap. Our main issue was the curtains in our room were see-through. Comfortable enough place. When we checked out a sprinkler was blocking the main pathway out.

Nice farm but can't call a hotel

The farm is worth a visit but the room hygiene/cleaness is bad. The sheet on bad basically is not washed or change per customer per stay, basically you can't tell how often they change them. Food is vey expensive (especially for people from town, eg, a bowl rice with few pieces if beef and vege costs $24), no internet from room and only can connect near landlord/cafe place, and it is charged for a fee. Also importantly, when you choose a specific Carbin from Internet, it is not guaranteed you will be put into the room, it is all depends number of people, so basically the landlord can breach contract without notice/contact (if he thinks you don't have enough people he will put you into smaller room even you purchased the big one). State correct number of people is important. To be honest, don't have to stay overnight for litchfield national park, that is what I learned from my trip.

We enjoyed a lot about this place. Butterflies to admire, goats and bunnies to feed, themed room, vege gardens, a gigantic spider web, lovely meals and general ambience. Our mattress on the double bed was too soft for us, so we didn't get much sleep, but my 8 year old son is keen to go back.
