Second stay, just as enjoyable as the first. Staff are friendly, rooms are a good size though it can be a bit of a walk from reception and a little maze like. Nice location although the building itself is showing signs of its age. Spa downstairs is well equipped and there are lots of peacocks wandering around the grounds.

Area is very nice, close to Snowdon, not too far from Chester or the coast.

I gave the 2 stars for the staff who were all lovely, however the room was poor. I can accept faded elegance but a mouldy dirty shower is not acceptable. Also the breakfast was poor, hot plate food of dubious quality and powdered orange juice? Wouldn’t be acceptable in a weatherspoons and you are not charging weatherspoon prices.

Breakfast was not worth £20 and considering the plumb tomatoes were cold and the other items were warm only I weren’t impressed. Breakfast starts at 07:30 hrs but was not on time any of the days I intended was another letdown, on the Friday ’my last day’ I went to breakfast at 07:30 hrs and waited 10 mins only for them to tell me they were taking orders for breakfast only so I missed out as I had the be at work from 08:00 hrs.
Not impressed with this place at all, I won’t be going back.

Ruthin Castle - Descent Stay

Ruthin Castle is a beautiful location with a good selection of rooms. Staff was friendly and parking was sufficient. A would rate it as a god mid-range stay. We did not take advantage of the spa services so we can not rate that aspect.
Our main complaint was our room had a pretty bad sour / moldy smell. After a few minutes you are \"nose-blind\" to it, but it was a bit overwhelming when we first step into the room.

I really looked forward to my stay but felt that this hotel was not a four star experience. The overall feel of the room, bathroom restaurant and grounds was grubby and unkept. The bathroom in particular was not like the photos on the website and I felt that photos of the ‘not so modern’ rooms would help with expectations. I understand that this is an historical building and did not expect it to be modern and perfect but the overly dark decor and lack of lighting in the bar and restaurant area left it feeling grubby. The breakfast experience was not great. The food was ok but again the serving area (especially the chilled area) did not feel particularly clean.

Lovely location but overpriced unless you get a good deal.Set in beautiful grounds so great if you get nice weather but as others have said it has a tired interior. Our room was clean and big as we'd paid for a suite for our anniversary, so it was lovely having the lounge to sit in and nice views. Another couple we met were on the lower ground floor and said that had no view at all. The tea tray in the room was very disappointing, no biscuits, the usual instant coffee, and just a couple of loose t-bags, not very hygienic and also no clue if decaff or normal! No fruit tea or anything interesting which given it was a suite is odd. The Premier Inn Plus rooms have a Nespresso machine, after all! Staff were lovely but breakfast was very average. Hot was bacon, sausage, fried egg, mushrooms and disappointingly tinned tomatoes. Cereal very small selection and same with yoghurt and fruit, very underwhelming. Pastries, just croissants, but these were nice and fresh at least. No nice bread, just UHP stuff to toast. If you want dinner you MUST book in advance. We were on DBB deal and had £30pp to spend but this doesn't get you much! Some of the mains were £23 / £24, the starters and desserts about £9 and up. Food was lovely, but avoid cheese board to finish as just 4 pieces truckle cheese you can get in supermarket. Overall, I'd only recommend if you get a good deal and get a suite!

The bedroom was dusty and dirty. Shower on his last legs. The maids never refilled coffee milk etc. The way the beds were made was just thrown back on. The food in the restaurant was at a lower standard. To be honest, absolutely terrible. This place needs a revamp and improve standards.

Me and my hushad an amazing weekend for our 1st anniversary, food was excellent location was fantastic.
Hottub in the forrest was an experience, although the Sauna was a little too small, not much value for money we paid on the twilight package we picked. Next time we would just book the hottub. Peacocks roaming around the grounds feeding out of your hands was something else. I would highly recommend a stay at Ruthin Castle.

This hotel is built into an old castle. You can walk around the ancient castle sections and there's information about the history which is all really interesting. Plenty of parking and lovely grounds. Nice restaurant and bar and spacious bedroom.

It’s kind of 2 castles, the real one and the Victorian addition so a great mismash. Yes it needs more staff on the cleaning and maintenance side and another gardener who doesn’t just blow leaves around with a leaf blower but it also has some some wonderful views and a great place to just wander around to the cries of the peacocks.
Our suite had recently been revamped so big roll top bath, loads of hot water and 2tv’s, one in each room. Fresh milk available from the bar and ok Wi-Fi.

Dinner was good esp. my battered pork and oriental coleslaw. Breakfast not so great, only fruit to go with the yoghurt tinned grapefruit and prunes poor quality coffee and fatty bacon but for the price was OK.

The real reason to stay is you can wander around the various nooks and crannies and on a sunny day that’s good enough.

Bar and dining room both very dark and not so clean with dust n cobwebs everywhere.

The town is just beyond the gatehouse so easy stroll to have a wander around Ruthin too.

We had a DBnB deal midweek which was good and pleased we stayed, it could be more pleasant if cleaner and better maintained but then would probably cost 50% more so for us we’d accept it as it is but just be prepared for the dust n grubbiness and think well it is a castle (or 2)

Great stay at a lively castle. Does need some TLC in places but there again it is very old obviously very expensive to keep on top of things. The only real gripe we had was the cost of drinks - £7 a pint!!! Would have loved to spend more time in the bar and the castle grounds but far too expensive for the drinks. Otherwise a fantastic stay and some fabulous scenic walks and a couplebof really nice restaurants in the town. Definitely recommended

The room was lovely and clean, we stayed for a wedding the breakfast was awful, we booked for 930 pastries were the tiniest croissant i have ever seen, coffee flasks empty has to ask, orange juice in a glass dispenser, below the tap, tipped it to fill one glass asked for more, this was emptied in didnt make any difference. Hot breakfast cold either under done n cold or over cooked n hard or nothing in the bain marie, kept having to ask for anything no one monitored, all in all poor , we only live 5 mins away but this was supposed to be a treat wont be going again

We had a Sunday lunch bought for us so as it was our wedding anniversary I booked a room for the night, a suite room, having a bedroom & separate comfy room. They were excellent although some distance from the reception & dining room.There were outside covered jaquises which we did not have time to use.We did however walk round the gardens which are well kept.
The food was a roast which was good.

Very relaxing weekend break at Ruthin Castle Hotel

We were met by a very friendly and helpful receptionist and this set the positive scene that was repeated by all the staff we met for the whole of the visit.
The food was excellent along with the service that came with it.
The hotel is as expected ie an old building in need of some repair that was full of atmosphere and history.
The gardens, inhabited by the beautiful resident peacocks were well maintained and nice to walk around. We were only there for a weekend break but I could visualise how lovely it would be as a wedding venue, especially if they were as lucky with the weather as we were.
I would happily return for a longer break in the future.

Lovely castle set in stunning grounds. We went for a wedding and the wedding event rooms were fab. The food and service was great amd the staff were lovely and it was all very well organised. Cleanliness was good too.
Only negatives were that some of the rooms were tatty and in need of attention. Peeling wallpaper, broken toilet flush, trim missing from bottom of shower etc.

Firstly, the staff are all lovely and very accomodating even at busy times. They are all extremely polite and do their best to make your stay be the best it can be.

The grounds themselves are beautiful,with hundreds of years of history both inside and outside the castle. You are free to roam around at all hours and partake in a history trail. There are many placards around the hotel/castle so that you can learn plenty while there.
The small town of Ruthin is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

The food is also excellent, if not slightly overpriced. However, eating in the medieval themed \"Tafarn y ddraig\" makes it worth the price. Certainly a unique experience.

Now onto the negatives. This is not a cheap hotel by any standard, with even the cheapest rooms costing over £100 a night. With the standard room that I stayed in, I found it to be a bit dirty, particularly the carpet, with many dog hairs and flakes of old mud in it. This continued into the bathroom, which was spacious. However, there was a strange damp odour coming from it, probably because it was a wet room with poor ventilation. As an aside, the water pressure and temperature was very low. This meant that filling the huge bath took well over 1 hour.

Overall, it is a unique experience that you will not regret. The food is tasty, the grounds are beautiful and the staff make you feel welcome. If you have the budget, go for a room upgrade to really feel like the King of the castle.

We stayed in Room 115 and unfortunately, our experience was far from enjoyable. The constant slamming of doors throughout the night made it nearly impossible to get any rest. The noise was disruptive, and we barely managed to sleep.

The breakfast was equally disappointing. Considering the price, we expected much better. The buffet was nearly empty, and we ended up feeling like we would have had a better experience at a local Weatherspoon’s, which was a real letdown.

As for the spa facilities, they simply weren’t worth the price. They didn’t live up to the expectations set by the hotel’s branding.

While the location is beautiful, and the building itself has a lot of potential, the overall experience was far too overpriced for what we received. It’s a shame because the area has so much to offer, but unfortunately, this hotel didn’t deliver.

Tired rooms my bedroom / bathroom smelt of drains. bathroom whilst very nice to look at smelled moldy and took 20 mins to get any amount of hot water as it trickled out. Bedroom was large but carpet worn. Very long walk to room in strange basement area. Did not feel very safe. Bed was lumpy. Restaurant pricey and average. Grounds and views are beautiful but hotel lacks any warmth. Ruthin lovely hill town worth visiting

Great hotel and helpful staff members. We stayed in the Prince of Wales Suite which was lovely, had a couple of issues but were resolved by hotel staff. We would stay here again.

Tired dirty and not worth the price

Ruthin is very tired! Rooms are filthy. Stains everywhere! Everywhere chipped!
Certainly the prices Do Not reflect the property.
