Great hotel with an amazing location.

Hotel was gorgeous and right on a lake with mountains all around. Food was spectacular and eating next to the picturesque view made it even better. With all that being said, the front desk kind of stole the show. They were all super friendly, helpful and went out of their way to assist anyway possible.

We stayed at the Seehotel Kastanienbaum between 28/12 2024 - 1/1 2025. Upon arrival the greeting was very friendly (and in perfect English). We were given details of the hotel, breakfast times, amenities such as Hot Tub and Sauna Boat for hire etc. We were also given a FREE bus pass for the duration of our stay. The bus service to and from Lucerne was regular and only 20 mins, the bus stop is literally 30 seconds from leaving the reception of the hotel. We used the bus every day. The room was spacious, a big bed, it was very warm and the bathroom had a great super-powerful shower. On the first night we had a cheese fondue in the private huts they have at the back of the hotel. It was great fun eating out zero degrees. We were kept warm by heated seat cushions and plenty of blankets. The only negative was it was foggy and the lake view we booked wasn’t there, obviously not the hotel’s fault. A nice touch was a Happy New Year card in our room on the 31st Dec and some biscuits and Konfi when we checked out.

Excellent and friendly staff made us welcome and offered a change to a lakeside view. The lighting in the bedroom was dim except at the desk - we would liked to have had more conventional lighting. The double bed was comfortable but we also struggled to accommodate two large duvets on the bed, ending up laying on one end to anchor it.

Wow! Just the place to stay if visiting Lucern - transportation to and from city is complimentary. The hotel is on the water and has all the facilities. The hospitality is top notch. This is a beautiful property! We were in Switzerland for 10 days and although we were only at this location one night it was hands down the nicest room of the stay. The hotel wasn’t clean ( too many spiders) I couldn’t stay and had to check out!!. They offered me two other rooms but they were also having the same issue. I contacted the hotel thru Expedia to get my refund but they refused!!! I DON’T RECOMMEND THIS DIRTY HOTEL TO ANYONE!!

Unbelievably beautiful location on the outskirts of Luzern, only 10-15 minutes away by (free) bus or car.
The building is a bit dated but renovated appropriately.
Very professional staff.
Bus and ferry boat(!) stop right there.
Wished we had brought our (gravel) bikes.

We only had (good) breakfast once there but delicious (game) dinners at normal prices in very classy interiors within 10 minutes from there at hotel/restaurant Waldegg and restaurant Eichhof.

The staff was patronizing and condescending; no help. The room was hot; the blinds had not been lowered by the cleaning crew so on a hot day with no AC, it was stifling. I had upgraded the room from a basic room but it was in the attic where it would be the hottest. The description says \"hill view,\" which is really up against a hill filled with homes.

I think this hotel might have been taken over by a new owner since we visited years ago. The staff were friendly but seemed a little unsure and the place seems a bit run-down. The view and direct access to the lake are superb but I was disappointed to be asked to pay extra for breakfast, the service at dinner was slow and there is no air conditioning in the rooms which made for a hot night.

Hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. Rooms were not comfortable, out of date, and carpet was dirty. I had one of the larger room-suite with a balcony but I was very disappointed by the decor and plain table and chair on balcony. The only pleasant part was the view of the lake. Also it would have been nice to have free bike rentals considering the hotel was 4 miles from the town of luzern, it was 15 Frank’s per hour to rent a bike. Such a disappointment, photos do not represent the hotel.

I booked a lake view room. The pictures on the link for room info show a clear garden terrace and lake view. The room I received had a view of the roof of the dining room. In addition, as an option, I was given a key to a different room (at a premium price) and that room was occupied. I walked in on a guest. The Reception Desk kept us waiting for over 30 minutes with no explanation. When I showed reception the website photos I was told I was wrong. The info on Hotels.com is misleading. In addition, the Double Room - Lake View rooms are on the ground floor, right by Reception and the elevators and directly over the kitchens (noise all evening). There is no aircon. The treatment I received by the Reception staff was totally unprofessional. The location is very good but no other restaurants close by.The restaurant food and service was very good but the room and service issues made this a visit I will be happy to forget and was a thoroughly disappointing end to our two week tour of Switzerland - not what Switzerland is all about.

Loved staying here. Good breakfast and amazing view. Only 15 minutes away from Lucerne. If you are coming by train I would recommend to catch bus 21 right outside the train station. There is a stop right in front of the hotel. I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel was amazing! Clean facilities, comfortable rooms, and very kind staff. It’s right next to the bus stop (bus 21) that takes you directly into Lucerne city center. They also have a dock which the tour boats can pick you up (Saphir). The hotel also offers discounted tickets for these attractions. And don’t forget to eat dinner here one night. The food is incredible. My wife got the filet and I got the fish and chips and they were outstanding!

Of all our stops through Europe, this was our favorite stay. While some things can be updated, our view of the lake far surpasses any price amount. Everyone was very kind and accommodating. Breakfast spread was great and even with complimentary mini bar. Getting to and from the city center of Lucerne was very easy as Switzerland offers free bus passes to visitors. There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel. If you wish to ride the boat, there is a dock outside the hotel that picks up passengers, but be sure to check their schedule. This time of year, they only make one pick up a day. A lake cruise is a must!

Beautiful Lake Lucern views

This hotel has a beautiful view of Lake Lucern. We were there for 2 days. The staff was exceptionally courteous and all able to communicate well in English. With the provided bus pass, and stop directly in front of the hotel, there was easy access to the center of Lucern. We also caught the boat for the Golden Round trip ticket to Mt. Pilatus for spectacular views of the Alps, Lake Lucern, and the surrounding towns. We were able to purchase that ticket right at the hotel. Highly recommend this hotel for sightseeing stays in the area.

Unexpected Delights

Stunning views across the lake. There was a plan doing stunts which was quite loud but this only happened during the day. We had a small electric fan to keep us cool. Great local business a into town was located just outside the hotel. It meant we could leave the car behind and explore the city and it's wonderfully artistic covered bridges. The staff were helpful and had no problem with us changing the time of our dinner reservation. There was an unexpected free mini bar which included a bottle of still water, sparkling water, a coke and a beer.

We were able to park in the hotel car park which was safe. Really friendly staff who are very informative. Room was clean and spacious. Views onto the lake are fantastic. You can eat dinner overlooking the lake and there is a boat right outside the hotel that takes you into the centre of lucerne. Overall it is a fantastic place to stay.

Wonderful secluded hotel

This hotel was wonderful due to its secluded location. It was 15 mins from Lucerne train station but you can take a bus from bus stop right across the hotel and hotel gives you free pass. We stayed here for 3 days and took a balcony room. Room was very clean with all the modern amenities. View from balcony was amazing- beautiful mountains and lake. You can sit there and enjoy a cup of coffee or wine with cheese and you will forget about all the stress in life. They have a restaurant with outdoor/indoor sitting. Food was little bit expensive but it was really tasty. We ate there everyday because we wanted to try everything and not miss out. We took long walks on the street which runs along the lake right next to the hotel and it was so peaceful. We had great time and whenever we will go back to Lucerne ,we will stay in this hotel again.

Great place to relax

This sleepy hotel located just 30 min south of lucerne is a great place to sit and watch the day go by. The hotel is also the town post office. Mailing gifts and post cards was very easy. If you have the need to go back to Lucerne just hop on one of the many ferries, and the hotel is a ferry stop as well.

Awesome Hotel!!

We were very pleased with our 5 night stay. Staff was super friendly and very helpful. The views from our room were amazing. I would definitely be staying here again, if we ever make it back to Switzerland. We only ate at the restaurant once, but what we had was very yummy. It was also very nice and convenient that our stay there included a bus pass. Overall very very pleased, and definitely recommend it.

Enjoyable stay of my first Swiss journey

Good breakfast especially the berries yoghurt oat was very delicious.
I enjoyed the cheese fondue very much not only for the experience of Swiss traditional and the quality of food but also the excellent service.
A good place for escape from city crowd but easy to reach the city.

Located in a suburb of Lucerne, with easy access to the city if you have a car or if you don't (bus stop is right in front of the hotel). If you want to avoid the crowds thronging the Altstadt, this is a wonderful alternative. Select a room with lake view (glorious sunrises are included) and splurge on a meal on the terrace. Check out the boat schedule and board at the dock behind the hotel. Or just walk down the street to the local park or go further on the many trails around the Halbinsel.

The hotel is located on a nice suburb of Lucerne, just next to the lake. The room was nice and comfy. The bathroom is however very small, so we are literally standing next to the toilet in order to use the sink.
What I don't like is that we booked for 2 adults and 1 child and paid for the Oon as such. However, upon check out, we were told that we had to pay extra for the breakfast which was supposed to be included. The hotel said that it is the problem with hotels.com as the website is not comprehensive to enable such costs to be charged. I think this is nonsense since we didn't have any such problems with the other hotels that we have booked for this trip. It is ridiculous that we have to pay an extra 20CHF when we have already paid 350 CHF.

Lovely hotel with everything you need. We had a balcony room with lake view. Amazing! The hotel is about 15 minutes by bus to the main station, but with a bus stop right outside the hotel and two busses in an hour we had no trouble getting around. A bonus we discovered is that you can catch a boat trip around the lake and get dropped off on the dock at the hotel! Only a few boats make the stop so you'll need to check before boarding.

Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel offers a really good breakfast buffet for CHF20 per person. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hotel with a great view and delish breakfast

Excellent hotel with a view to the lake. It is located at the doorstep of the bus stop about 20mins bus ride from Luzerne station. If you are staying with them, don't forget to spoil yourself with their breakfast. The friendly staff and wide selection of delish buffet was the best hotel breakfast I've had in Swiss throughout my travel. Just to top it off, you have a great view of the lake with the breakfast.
