We booked a two-night stay at Muthu Keekorok Lodge Masai Mara and, upon arrival, decided to cancel one of the rooms; however, the hotel was unwilling to assist with the cancellation process, resulting in us forfeiting the cost of the unused room. Unfortunately, the overall condition of the property was disappointing. The lodge appears significantly outdated, with rooms lacking basic amenities such as proper ventilation, windows, air-conditioning, or televisions—only a small fan was provided. The bathroom had a persistent and unpleasant odor, drainage issues were noticeable, and insects were present throughout the room. The walls appeared unclean and constructed of rough stone surfaces that did not seem properly maintained. Additionally, the buffet food included in the stay was served cold, lacked freshness, and was of poor quality. While meals were included in the rate, guests were required to pay separately for beverages, which felt inconsistent with expectations for the overall pricing. To further compound the experience, staff interactions were largely unfriendly and inattentive. Overall, this stay did not meet basic hospitality standards, and the experience fell well below expectations for a lodge in this location.

The property is very old styled.

We had to beg them to pick us from the airstrip.
They had our booking, knew we were coming , marketed their ballon safaris and ignored our messages to pick us. Eventually they pucked us. One managed claimed we had not paid our accommodation despite the fact that we had paid before arrival. Another staff said our accommodation was fully paid in advance.

Sarova is much better. We visited Sarova they welcomed very well even though we were not staying there. They offered us free drinks.

Sarova service is great.

We will not stay in Muthu Kekoorok again.

We stayed 2 nights, the property was beautiful right in the middle of Masai Mara. The rooms were good except that they were a little too dark. Little more lighting would have been good. We had the presidential suite so we had the whole suite to ourselves which was nice.
Food was good, lot of variety (vegetarian and indian food options).
One downside was power getting cut both nights we were there for a little time.

Moldy bed sheet, dirty light switches, broken bed net. Smelly bar area. When I reported the above issues, 3 groups of staff came and decided to offer me a bottle of free beer ( wine). I don’t drink beer ( wine). Then the manager knocked my room door twice to force me to accept it. I paid $NZ 1100 per room per night. This is the worst 5 star hotel I have ever experienced.

The property is average, definitely not worth the amount of money charged. For that amount of money $300 plus a night, you should receive a 4 star plus accommodation. I had to ask for towels in the room. The food was buffet style but still average.

This is a fantastic property. We stayed in the presidential suite because we could have our entire family under one roof. The staff was amazing. You can hear hippos at the River. The only thing to be desired was the food. Most dishes are Indian and just okay. After a few days we were really craving something else. Also be mindful that coffee and tea are included with meals, but only if you get it yourself.

Amazing staff. Very friendly. Especially kitchen manager Mr. Manish. He took special care of us and our children. We got food catered specially for us according to our taste sent straight to the table. That food was not even included in the buffet.

The first minute we reached the lodge we weee a little disappointed as the executive suite we booked was not available. But they were generous enough to offer us a presidential suite. It made our stay very very enjoyable and relaxing.

The pool should be temperature controlled though. It was freezing.

The lodge is very ideally located right in the middle of Masai Mara so we don’t have to travel a lot for the game drives.

I loved that wildlife was able to roam about the grounds. It was pretty special to see zebras munching on grass just yards from our room. We could hear the hippos in the hippo pond calling during the night! It was a very memorable experience:)

It was a good experience ,Food was average but everything else of the property is good value for money ,There are of course better properties in Masai Mara but they are also a lot more expensive

Wish they had more activity around HIPPO BAR it should be really one of the highlights of the property

The room was not pleasant. Poorly kept. Windows were broken, cracks in the walls, critters everywhere. I flew in via safarilink and the lodge neglected to provide transportation from the airstrip to the hotel accommodations. I was informed of a national reserve fee of usd 70 per day the second day of my stay. Reservation states “full board” but that does not include beverages. The lodge completely shuts off power at pre-determined times. WiFi was poor. Staff was great. Very accommodating. Just a bad overall visit. I’d love to visit Masai Mara again, just not at Keekorok Lodge.

The resort is right next to the Keekorok airfield. The hotel is in the Masai Mara and what is very special is the animals roaming freely on the location. We saw hippos in the hippo pool, giraffe, zebra, many cute monkeys, etc. you don’t have to leave to see them.
They also have some from the very special Mass tribe on the location. The staff made it a special stay for sure.

Excellent location in the heart of Masai Mara. Hippos in the back of the room where you get to witness their daily activities from the hippo bar. Velvet monkeys and baboons on location to watch you while you eat and possibly steal your food if they get a chance. Staff very friendly and accommodating. The food could be improved as there were limited options. Overall, I would highly recommend this place.

The property is located right in the heart of the Masai Mara. My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights and had a wonderful time! There is live Masai entertainment each night, an incredible hippo bar that guests from other lodges often frequent, and a nice sized pool. The food is slightly redundant but for a short stay it was great! We managed to see the big 5 plus birds, and wildebeests! The WiFi worked well and the electricity shut-offs didn’t bother us much because we were either napping or out for a drive during them. The staff is very attentive and polite and quickly remember your names & room numbers despite being quite full as it was peak-season. Thank you to Dennis who I believe is the hotel manager for getting an account manager to reset our safe after we accidentally locked it! Most incredible experience of my life, and I’m glad that keekerok was apart of the trip!

What a beautiful place full of beautiful people!
We flew from Nairobi to Keekorok airstrip (for an absurd price to fly 30 min in a tiny airplane of less than ideal quality).
Big campus with beautiful trees and décor. Felt very safe. Late at night, supposedly animals may roam the grounds, but the staff is always available to escort you anywhere.
Room are spacious and clean. No TV and A/C (only wall fan), but that was fine by us. The electricity does shut off several times a day (scheduled), but it didn't affect our schedule at all (though sometimes our afternoon naps get a little warm in the room.
Staff is exceptionally kind and welcoming. They will learn your names, ask about your days, and share their stories. Judy and Moses were incredible!
Food is great. Every meal is a wide array of delicious selections and we were so stuffed at the end of each meal. They will charge for water if you ask for it at dinner, but I would bring one of the free water bottles they left in our rooms to dinner.
We went on 4 game drives with LePapa and he was incredible. We saw a lot of animals and learned a lot about Kenya as well from him. He played a significant part in our African trip!
We didn't discover this until the last day, but go check out the Hippo Bar (actual bar where you can drink while watching hippos and buffalos bathe. after sunset, you'll finally see them get out of the water and wander).
Highly recommend this hotel if you're in Masai Mara for safaris.

The staff was amazing, probably the best part of our stay experience! Judy Sharon, Ole Loet, etc. made our stay so splendid. It’s also the only Safari lodge that is fenceless so the animals are free to roam onto its grounds, but don’t fret, staff is always available to walk you anywhere when the sun goes down. They also have a hippo bar where you can watch hippos living their best lives. The only comment I have is, be prepared to pay for every beverage at lunch and dinner including still bottled water. They do include small water bottles in your room, but if you’re like us (aka thirsty) those went very quickly. I’d suggest stocking up before entry to save a little on that as our stay ended up being an extra $75. Highly recommend staying here!

The best getaway location

The staff are amazing right from entrance into property to checkout. Patrick and his team team in the front desk are very cordial on ensuring that your stay is nothing but the best. Mr Mathai and the dinning staff are the best. The food is nothing to compare with. We got a cake surprise on our last dinner for being second time return guests. The game drives are amazing, the scenery is breathe taking, the 800M wooden walk-way just outside the hotel gives you a close view of the wild habitat. One word: We love Keekorok!

Loved this hotel!

We had a great time. The grounds were beautiful. The staff was very friendly. I really loved and was surprised by this hotel. They went above and beyond with everything. The food could've been better but nothing to complain about.

A few things to keep in mind:
Water in the restaurant costs along with all other drinks. Some added costs were: 1. Park entrance fee -$70 per night per person. 2. Airport transfer fee- $60 roundtrip per person 3. Safari game drive -$60 per person but really worth it to go. This fee was optional but I thought it would be included based on the price of this hotel but you do have to pay per game drive.

Good holiday

We had a really relaxing 2 day stay. Went on a couple of game drives and saw lion, elephant, buffalo and even a glimpse of a rhino. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was adequate but tailored more to Indian tastes. The lodge is 50 years old and is showing it's age in some places. That said, it is good value and well positioned not too far from the park gate.

overpriced

electricity available few hours a day, I wonder how do they store food without fridges, this is even dangerous.
Cutoffs will follow exactly your safari schedule, ie you are back from driving and want to have hot shower and a cup of coffee, forget it till lunch time (followed by after lunch cutoffs till dinner and then night)
staff lies all the time. e.g . you book a guide for the game driving one day before, but in morning they tell you that there is no one available; reserve a table for dinner ->same story; maintenance request to fix anything in the room, you can wait for ages , but no one will come. The staff will promise you anything , just to get rid of you , with no intend to get it done.

Brilliant location, amazing staff!

First time going to Kenya on safari. This hotel is in a brilliant location. Warmly greeted by staff. Easy to check in. All the staff seem genuinely pleased to help you and ensure you have a memorable stay. They are all very attentive, and just generally happy people.
-hippo pool with viewing deck is fantastic! get to see a huge range of wildlife
-stayed in a chalet which was very comfortable and private
-meals perfect (I'm vegetarian and sometimes struggle with the selection of food)
-Great breakfasts!
-all the staff truly wonderful (don't say this lightly). Judy, Richard, Vincent, Daniel and Milton. (Rare to remember the staffs' names for the right reason - but true in this instance)
-Ended up celebrating my birthday here and they ensured it was lovely and special with singing and dancing (staff...not me!)
-Saw all the amazing wildlife including lions+++, cheetahs+++ and all the others
-Arranged for a safari guide/driver prior to travelling who was extremely knowledgeable and made the safari all round brilliant (Francis). Knew exactly where and how to track all the animals.
Cannot recommend highly enough

Good lodge to experience Africa's Wild Life

The hotel staff was awesome very friendly and easy to talk to. All inclusive does not include drinks. The drink expense and expense of airport transportation were not in my plans but other than that we are 3 good meals daily. The power goes off 3 times daily for 2 hours for the generator to recharge. Animals are everywhere be sure to lock your door so the monkeys don't go in your room

great location in the Mara

Stayed with a family group of 11 for two nights. Hotel was perfectly located for access to all parts of the Mara. Hotel is now 50 years old but has been maintained very well overall. Staff were extremely helpful in handling any requests. Head office messed up our first game drive access but reception manager handled well and found us an awesome driver that we then used for the next 3 drives. Ask for Tony for game drives he is awesome.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

I spent three night in Keekorok. The lodge was the first one of it´s class to be built in the reserve back in the 60´s and you can see it. The rooms were quite old with furniture that has been there for many years, but still ok. Anyway, you don´t spend much time in the rooms. The general cleaning was fine although there were cobwebs in visible and reachable places.
The common areas were very nice, much better than the rooms. They have a lovely bar in front of the hippos pool. You have to go and stay there around 8pm and you will see a long queue of hippos (around 25) getting out of the water. They come back at 6am.
A very nice thing: it doesn´t have fences so when you wake up in the morning you can see all kind of animals around the rooms.
A very bad thing: we arrived by plane to the Keekorok airstrip, as you can imagine for the name it is in the lodge´s area. To be more precised it is 2km away from the main entrance, about 8minutes drive. The charged us 60 USD!! Simply a ripped off.
They serve buffet meals, which are not very tasty, specially desserts. So if you are a sweet´s fan bring your own! Breakfast is very good, though. Remember that most of full boarded accommodation don´t include drinks which are paid separately. In the lodge the prices are reasonable.
The staff is super nice and are looking forward to take care of you. Thumbs up for them!
Overall: don´t expect anything fancy but it´s good value for money

A waste of effort and money

I have given this hotel good marks in this review so as not to effect its average.
In fact I didn't even get to the lodge, and that's no fault of theirs.
I booked the room and elected to find my own way to Keekorok from Nairobi, a big mistake.
One person I found didn't turn up at all and I abandoned my lodge booking and booked a complete last minute safari with a company for less than the cost of the extras I was going to be charged to make a safari out of the Keekorok Lodge stay.
My warning is this: Do not try to put together a safari for yourself using the Internet. Even world travellers like myself will get caught. The gap between life on the streets in Nairobi and the tourist world is bigger than I've seen anywhere else. Be careful.

Great location within Maasai Mara

Specially the neighbourhood in Maasai Mara is one of it's kind, but I assume that everybody who will travel there is aware of it. The Hotel was very comfprtable given the fact of it's location in Maasai Mara. I would recommend to everybody to arrange for transportation and maybe game drives in advance. Also the hotel company offers Ballon Safaris which might be interesting as well. There is a air stripe close to the Lodge and flights can be booked from Nairobi Wilson airport. We rented a car that we also used for game drives and the hotel supported us to find a driver.
