The bustling, little town of Omaruru is a place of many pleasant surprises. One of them is Kashana Namibia, a lodge-style guest house whose centerpiece is a former casino built by the German colonial rulers in 1907.
After the building was left to itself and almost fell apart, the current owners came to its rescue, restoring it to its former glory. Today, the lovely old house accommodates a rustic bar and a cosy restaurant.
The courtyard houses a number of shops, amongst them the ever-popular Nawa-Nawa Art Centre. Kashana's overnight guests stay over in newly-built rooms.
Very recently, a swimming pool and a lapa area were also added.
Located in Kananaskis, Kananaskis Mountain Lodge, Autograph Collection is in a provincial park, a 5-minute drive from Nakiska Ski Resort and 6 minutes from Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park. We have stayed here a number of times a this is the first time we have been disappointed in a number of things. One huge one was the restaurant where the buffet is held - infested with flies! So many black and fruit flies all over the food - in January! Another negative was that we were skating and right beside the skating rink along the gingerbread path for kids is a smoking area - so kids were forced to be in and amongst the adults smoking. It ruined the overall mountain fresh experience that we had come to love.

Unfortunately, we did not realize that we needed to book the spa and restaurant weeks in advance. We planned a one night spa getaway last minute here and that was not a wise choice. When we checked into the hotel, the room was great, but we discovered that the spa was full for the next two days as well as the restaurant there is limited options as it is a small village and 30 minutes drive to Canmore. We thought we would try the hot tub and it was broken and the heated pool was full with lots of kids, so not a relaxing atmosphere. We were very disappointed and communicated to the staff, who fully refunded us our stay and we ended up going to Canmore later in the evening instead although the staff were trying to make our stay better, we were disappointed and just want to let everyone else know if you plan to go here to make sure you book everything in advance, including the restaurant otherwise you will be stuck in your expensive room for the duration of your stay.

The hotel website mentioned that the outdoor hot tub was available but it wasnt available neither so the website was misleading. Elevators carpets had a lot of smell even the corridors of the hotel rooms were dirty and the paint was peeling off breakfast room was too overcrowded and the waiting time was 20 to 30 minutes for one family. The balcony overlooking the trees and with a view of the mountains was top notch. Only issue is upon check-out I wasn’t told I would still need my room key to leave the underground parking. Usually, you scan to get in only, and when you leave, the doors are simply motion detecting. Thus, I gave both keys back at the front desk and was stuck inside the underground. I called the front desk, they said they’d send someone down in 5 minutes. I waited about 15 before another guest had to leave the hotel and let me follow them out. So, if you plan to use underground parking, keep one key with you! There is a slot to roll down your window and drop it in after you exit. All in all, had a lovely time and will for sure be staying again

For those who have never experienced Banff, Canmore or Kananaskis expect a 5 star experience on all levels. Kananaskis Mountain Lodge is amazing period, food was great at all restaurants, master chefs, top notch service staff. My only let down was the rooms and bathrooms are in serious need of upgrades for the price.

We called in advance to confirm the pool/water park would be open and was assured that the outdoor pool was open but the indoor was closed for construction. Upon arrival, we were told that the pool was closed for a special function - outdoor cinema and that it would be $25/person, to float in a tube and watch a movie. So we did not have access to the pool.

Asides from the great service and hospitality, the property has an amazing nordik spa along with amazing view points. I found myself going on the view trails every sunrise and sunset. Really recommend the stay here it’s not like anything else.

My 4 year old daughter said she would like to stay for 10 weeks rather than just 1 night!!! Great property and really enjoyed the probate lounge and facilities.

We stay here for a night every July. This time were not informed that the indoor water park was under renovations until 2 days prior to check in. I was annoyed, as this is something the kids really look forward to, I sent an email stating such and Alexandra emailed me right away apologizing and extended free breakfast for our family. She also texted me to make sure check in went well and asked if there was anything else we wanted. I am amazed at the service this resort offers, you feel like VIP and very welcomed every time. The view is definitely one that can't be beat either!

Beautiful property in the most spectacular and breathtaking scenery. As an Albertan, we are so lucky to have these beautiful mountains and this resort in our backyard.

Great resort and staff, but disappointed by inflexible policies
Overall, we had a very good experience. The resort is beautiful and the staff were warm throughout our stay.
Unfortunately, our toddler became sick, and we made the difficult decision to leave a night early. While we understand policies are in place, we were disappointed that management wasn’t more understanding of the situation, especially given we had paid for a room upgrade we couldn’t use.
The frontline staff were excellent, but we’d encourage management to consider more family-friendly policies for unforeseen circumstances. No one wants to vacation with a sick child, and certainly no one wants to expose others to it.
