Breakfast was great, Onsen was very sufficient and had private and public areas which I appreciate.
Guests on our floor were loud and the walls are thin, but hey, some tourists are like that and it’s not really the hotel’s fault. Everything else was perfect.

This is a traditional ryokan with onsen facilities, and we chose the half-board option. The kaiseki dinner was excellent—beautifully presented and far more food than anyone could realistically finish. Breakfast was also outstanding, with the choice of either a Japanese or Western-style meal.

The resort is slightly removed from the main tourist area of Arashiyama, located across the river and close to one of the train stations, though not the most central lines. This does make it feel quieter, but also means a bit more travel if you're exploring the area.

The staff were wonderful—warm, attentive, and helpful throughout our stay. The onsen facilities were extremely relaxing and perfect after a full day of hiking.

Overall, a classic ryokan experience with exceptional meals and hospitality.

This was a wonderful stay in west Kyoto, near the river and all that comes with that proximity. The grounds were lovely and the facilty was equally nice. We did not take advantage of the meals since there were so many other options in the community within easy walking distance.

In Japan, they don't provide room cleaning services every day when a guest is in the hotel, if you need the garbage taken out, or new towels/ sheets, you put a sign on the door.

They had 5 private Onsen's that are open 24/7 and are tattoo friendly. My wife and I were able to relax and have a bath together after walking 17k steps in a day.

The views around the outside of the hotel and inside are very traditional Japanese and are gorgeous.

There was maybe one mark on the wall it took me two seconds to wipe it off. I dont blame the staff for this they are very hardworking men and women. It took me less time to clean a mark than it would've taken to find someone to clean that same mark.

Never had a chance to eat breakfast or dinner at the onsen. But there was a very good selection of different places to eat within a couple of steps just outside the onsen.

The staff were incredibly friendly most of them do not speak anything other than Japanese. Use Google translate to try and learn a few phrases this will not only make them more open to wait for you to translate your questions. But it will also help make their day a little better. We are all living on this planet together a little kindness goes a long way. I had to ask for some ointment to put on a bug bite so im certain they wouldn't have taken the time to help if both my wife and i weren't being friendly towards the staff.

We took the train here it was literally just outside the property so we have no idea where the parking lot is and how the parking works here.

Bottom line is treat everyone with respect and dont except everyone to kiss your behind just because you are a customer. Read up on what an onsen and a ryokan actually are. This is not a pool and this is a spiritual place not a daycare. I saw both adults and children running around acting disrespectful towards both the staff and the facility. Yes you have to take off your shoes.

AMAZING! We were instantly wowed when we walked into the property. Free ramen at night, free ice cream, private baths and amazing amenities were icing on the cake. Super easy walk into the gorgeous river area and town center made this resort even more attractive. Beauty all around you. Walk to the famed Bamboo Grove was about 15 mins and very picturesque. My parents and friends opted for on site massage and they absolutely LOVED it. It was so cute to see the guests walking around the resort in the resort provided pajamas and kimonos. We were sad that we only booked for 1 evening. My hubby wanted to come back and stay here for a week. Loved every minute we were at the resort.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Karaksa Hotel Osaka Namba – A place I’d love to return to!
Karaksa at Osaka Namba is a hotel I would definitely come back to. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, and the entire place is spotless and well-kept. The room is quite spacious for Japan, especially given its convenient location near Dotonbori.

There are plenty of shopping and dining options just steps away, and I really enjoyed the sense of safety while walking around the nearby streets. The hotel also offers complimentary soft drinks, coffee, and light snacks in the lobby café — a lovely spot to relax after a long day of exploring.

Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for its comfort, cleanliness, and welcoming atmosphere.

There are private and pubkic onsens which are easily accessible and very comfortable. Great stay

Front desk has one male staff who ignores the non Asian guests as if they are invisible. So rude! Front desk aren’t fluent in English and stare at you blankly. They allow guests to smoke everywhere and there is a cigarette smell everywhere; especially onsens and elevators. Rooms were dated. There was a cockroach in my room. The female staff were very kind and treated us very nicely. I want the property to relay this message to the male staff working there to ask them to respect women and foreigners!

We really enjoyed our stay! Staff were friendly and facilities were very clean. Only thing that could have made it better is the position of the smoke room. When the doors would open/close, the smell of smoke would easily get inside which made the first half of the lobby smell like smoke. Other than this, we had a great time!

I had no idea what I was getting into. This is a super cool hotel if you want a true Japanese Onsen experience. You start with taking your shoes off and doning either pajamas they provide or your pick of Kimonos ( not sure if what men wear are Kimonos but nonetheless) which they also have for you. Then you head off to either a private bath ( pick the third or the 5th one if you want to be outside)or the public bath ( split for men and women). After bathing you can get a massage, have a traditional dinner or change and walk into town and see the Bamboo forest, temple, take a river boat ride or shop and eat. Plenty to do. It is on the one side of the City and the Golden Temple and the big food market is on the opposite side. To go to the Golden Temple requires you take the train that is across the street 3 stops, transfer and work your way into the opposite side of the city. Assume its an hour if you time all the trains right.

Overall, it was an awesome experience!

It's arashiyama so it is a quiet area, if you are planning to eat , eat before 5 . Luckily it's right by the station and a convenience store. If you do not speak Japanese skip, the staff treat you very poorly and are not comfortable speaking in English. When we walked over to the receptionist she did not say hello just demanded our passports. We started speaking our elementary Japanese and she lighted up. In addition the hotel charges more to foreigners try looking them up with a Japanese VPN on expedia and you'll see you can save $300 or more dollars. They really don't want forigners there just our money.

Excellent service and a number of onsen options. Breakfast is delicious and offers a lot of delicacies. Optional kansakei style dinner was excellent. The staff were courteous and it seems like there is someone either cleaning the place or waiting to serve you. Free udon at night at 10 PM. Massage service was very good and done by experiences local masseurs. Minor complaint is that some of the furniture is dated but it also gives some ryokan charm.

We enjoyed the Japanese style inn. We stayed in a western Rome, which had two western beds and two futons. The futons were a bit stiff, but that is to be expected. It was a very authentic Japanese experience, what an amazing treat! However, it was not very clear that you HAVE to preregister for any meals, otherwise you can not eat there. There was another pub type facility on premisis in addition to where people were eating but it was not open and we werent able to understand why? This did not take away from the experience as we were able to secure meals elsewhere- but you need to find food before 8pm as the town shuts down. The massages, private baths and public baths were absolutely outstanding and very clean. They provide robes, socks, pjs and all the tolietries you could possibly need. The staff was great and SUPER friendly even though it was very busy. They needed to rely on translation apps, we did not see any other Americans or non Japanese guests so it might be more if a local favorite which really added to the authenticity. The rooms were well above adequate, not new or pristine, but maintained very well. It was really a unique and memorable experience that we will fondly remember. Defineately wirth a visit.

Always beautiful, this time we stayed on the 3rd floor and the door color is different from each floor! Last year we were on the 4th floor. This year I was on the 3rd floor! It’s so cute! The various private onsens to choose from, then public onsen, the sauna was perfect! The cold plunge was super cold but so good after my sauna! The outdoor onsen is in a beautiful garden setting and I love relaxing in there! Just beautiful! 10:30pm late night ramen for hotel guests! Absolutely love it! The garden view is beautiful too! I love this hotel! It’s so cozy! I can’t wait to stay next year! Love love love this hotel! Right across the train station too! So convenient to get to!

Great experience of a non Western stay. Staff was all very friendly, room was comfortable, hot soaks were AMAZING after a few very active days of walking. We opted for a lighter dinner in the bar area and had an amazing time with great views of the garden. Breakfast was delicious and a new experience that we loved.

Amazing place to stay with attentive staff, centrally located and quiet in beautiful Arashiyama, conveniently situated right across the street from the train station. No need to worry about noise, as the station is the end of the line, thus service is not as crowded or frequent. The staff were fantastic and even had a small gift for my girlfriend when we checked in on her birthday. The private onsens were delightful, clean, and super convenient to use. The food was wonderfully traditional and quite an impressive spread. Rooms were traditional and very spacious, especially coming from Tokyo. Location provided exactly what we wanted from or visit to Kyoto, and the local town of Arashiyama is stunning. Would highly recommend this onsen resort for anyone desiring a relaxing retreat in a beautiful and idyllic quiet town.

Small but cozy

We really enjoyed our stay here. A 20 minute walk from the JR Rail station. Check in was a little painful but we managed to get through it. The hotel is beautiful and we loved the onsens. If you have tattoos, like I do, they have 5 private ones to enjoy. The rooms are small but cozy. Overall or stay was great.

we had very high expectations from this place and was a little disappointed. I booked it based on the definitions at Hotel.com and they asked me to pay an additional $160 for my 9 year old at the check-in. The hotel is super old and not well maintained. the hot springs is not that impressive and overrated.

Fantastic for families and individuals looking for a ryokan experience that is located next to popular experiences. The staff is fantastic - helpful and welcoming, constantly working to keep the resort clean and tidy. The food is good featuring seasonal ingredients. The private onsen are our favourite feature. This hotel is located next to the Arashiyama bamboo forest, monkey park, temples and market which makes it an excellent choice for folks that want everything and low on time. Thank you for a great stay.

This is the first Onsen I've ever stayed at. I wasn't certain of what to expect but was pleasantly delighted by the experience. I'm sure others were too as the had many staying at the property. We were able to use the private onsens at 5 in the morning. But from what I could see, it got very crowded later in the day. I wish we could have stuck around the property more, but since we had a short time in Kyoto, we spent much of it exploring the surrounding area which was charming.

This hotel was amazing! It is a traditional Japanese style hotel but equally has some added comforts, like the super comfy beds. The area surrounding the hotel is stunning and is a nice quieter area to stay rather than staying in Kyoto. You can then easily get into Kyoto by bus or train, with the bus stop and train station just across the road/round the corner. There are lots of shops and nice restaurants nearby as well as amazing walks, shrines and other sites to see. The staff were friendly and the hotel was really clean. We tried the breakfast at the hotel and it was really traditional Japanese breakfast. We liked the experience but weren't fans of the food but worth trying! Would definitely stay again!

'Shoes off, Yakata wearing' traditional Japanese experience! Very comfortable and warming. With tattoo restrictions on many Onsens and Sauna facilities around Japan, the private onsens here make it accessible. You can stay on the quiet side of the river or head over the bridge for the hustle and bustle. Very breathtaking area. Highlight was the traditional breakfast and dinner. So much food with such a huge variety. Would go back again if I was in the Kyoto area.

Nice, clean place. Not user friendly for none Japanese speaking / reading. I.e Locker, room number were all in Japanese. That should be printed or explain at front desk.

Great ryokan, but when I tried out one of the private onsens there were many tiles missing from the wall and there was an unpleasant smell. The public onsen (men’s) was lovely and everything was in good condition, so the quality of the private onsen seemed limited to that one spot. There are 4 other private onsens I did not try out.

Staff was helpful and professional. Lots of charm to this place.

Best stay of our honeymoon!

We loved our stay here! Definitely want to return to stay at this onsen. We were greeted at check in with a sweet gift for our honeymoon it was so thoughtful! We loved arashiyama and the convenience of how walkable our hotel was to both stations and the town. The beds are so comfortable the room we stayed in was spacious. We loved how traditional this hotel was tatami mat floors and all. The best part was the onsens, we both have tattoos and loved that they had 5 different private onsens to choose from. In the evening dinner-10pm it stayed pretty busy so we opted for early morning soaks and all were empty between 5-7am. Perfect way to start our day. 10/10 stay at this hotel when we come back to kyoto we plan to stay here again!
