Wish we didn’t have to leave!!

Love this hotel! Beautiful in so many ways. Peaceful setting along the Ping, stunning grounds, gorgeous pool. Staff was outstanding, helpful, friendly, efficient. Shout out to Beau who served us drinks at the Bubbly bar above the spa overlooking the pool and the river. Another shout out to the wonderful server at the Brit Bar who served us cocktails in the afternoon (and cookies!!) I don’t remember her name but she was great and very welcoming everyday. Breakfast was amazing serving both Thai and western foods. Our room was huge, with a giant comfy bed, beautiful balcony, stacking/sliding doors making a huge opening out to the balcony. Room was spotless, and cleaned twice a day with turndown service in the evening. We stayed 4 nights and could easily have stayed longer. If we make it back to Chiang Mai the Anatara will definitely be the place we come to!

We stayed over the Christmas holidays and the property was full. The staff were excellent and helpful. The property did feel a bit dated and being quite busy, it did not feel like a luxury stay especially compared to other properties we’ve stayed at in South East Asia. We would not stay here again.

The Chiang Mai Anantara offers tranquil ambience in a setting that combines historic architecture with modern design and use of local timber. Quite breathtaking. The rooms are huge, Bathrooms are luxurious. The lap pool is beautiful. Service staff are friendly and efficient. The Bodhi Terrace Restaurant serves exquisite Thai food for dinner by the river.The best we’ve had. Just two suggestions: The steep staircase to the rooftop Bubbles Bar has no handrails — a long way to fall! The Brit Bar downstairs would be more inviting if there was live music at night.

Sorry to give a knock on this property, but there’s too much construction going on. They promised us that the construction was not going to be in our zone, but we had to walk through all of the construction chaos to get to our room which was a very long walk. The floors are slippery as ice because of all the construction dust. They should have somebody mopping the floor from construction dust 24 seven but they don’t. They really should close this property while they do the kind of extensive work that they are doing. The large lobby is essentially outdoors, so you’re going to sweat unless you are in your room or the small bar. The main restaurant is also open to the outside elements. It has a cool vibe, but like because of all that’s going on, discerning travelers will not appreciate the current situation.

Service was excellent and attentive. I especially liked the way breakfast was served, with some food items on self service buffet and a good selection of food items on the ala carte menu. The only small imperfection was the noise from the ongoing renovation works during my stay which made the stay less restful and serene than desired. Nevertheless the property is a great choice for travellers to Chiang Mai and will be even more so after renovation works are done.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was decent. Their rooms are not noise-proof. I could hear everything from the street, kids playing downstairs. people shouting in front of the elevator.

The River View room type is rather misleading. Most of their advertised river view rooms, except for the most expensive suites, only have a partial review view. We were pretty disappointed given that we specifically booked those rooms expecting to have a nice river view.

Little slice of paradise in Chiang Mai

The hotel is fantastic. The service was superb. We had a riverfront suite and it was every bit as nice as you could ask for. The mosquitos were a little too friendly but that is what repellent is for! The VIP lounge is a very nice perk of included. The spa was also superb. Both restaurants were good, but the Thai is better (despite the reviews that the other is the better).

We had booked with breakfast but were heading out every day before service started. We were told we could nonetheless get breakfast thru room service. We did, but it was full charge (no offset). That was a little petty for a hotel of this class. And while they ask when you prefer turn down, it’s hit or miss on time and whether we received at all.

So not a 5-star it should be, but close.

Outstanding conversion of the former British consulate building and grounds. The main building is now serves as two distinct restaurants. The guest rooms are in a newer U shaped 5 storey building that surround the old consulate structure. The rooms are beautiful but if you are expecting privacy and a nice view, avoid all of the lower floors as many of these face into common areas or walls and for the international price point at this hotel, the room situations can feel out of synch.

Relaxed ambience with exceptional service

We stayed in the Kasara Garden view room and our stay from beginning to end did not disappoint. Despite the relaxed atmosphere, a lot goes in to make your stay memorable and deliveries a high quality service. We used the transfer service to pick us up from the airport after a long flight from London. Our driver was waiting for us when we landed and the car was stocked with drinks and a refreshing towel. Upon arrival to the hotel we were taken to the lounge to check-in. We drank our welcome drinks and asked to choose our room scent. Our room was styled beautifully, very large space and we had a view of the gardens. The turndown service in the evening, included our ice being topped up and an oil burner being lit in the bathroom. The staff in the hotel were super friendly and greeted me quite often by name. The breakfast had an extensive choice and we sat next to the river every morning. We made use of the free laundry service and the cocktails in the lounge in the evening (which were exceptional). Despite the very relaxed and calm atmosphere, a lot goes on behind the scenes to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I celebrated my 40th birthday here and the additional touches made my day even more special. I cannot recommend this hotel enough and thank everyone there.

Demeaning staff and property, seriously lacks respect for its customers!

I had just gotten dropped off with my family at the hotel and was about to check in when we started getting profiled and interrogated by the staff. I told the staff only 3 of the party of 5 were checking in. The other party of 2 were going to wait for us at the lobby. Once they separated us the check in party and the waiting party, they interrogated the waiting party asking for passport information credit card information and where they were heading, checking and looking over the information on baggage. They had the staff surveillance on us. I had explained the other party was waiting for us to check in. I EVEN SHOWED THEM THE OTHER PARTIES CONFIRMATION CODE FOR THE OTHER HOTEL. After I had the waiting party call and tell us what was happening I decided it was best to leave this so called hotel. Not Even USA TSA does this kind of stuff. I asked to speak to the manager to get a refund. The guest relations manager, thanyarak Takhiao and general manager, Vincent, came out and only offered a sorry and a measly upgrade. THEY WOULDNT GIVE ME MY REFUND AND INSISTED I STAY AT THEIR PLACE. I decided to let my credit card company handle this since they wanted to be difficult in refunding and booked another hotel, which ended up being a way better choice in the downtown area. Have no problem in dishing out other thousands of dollars in a hotel that actually value customer service.

So Relaxing!

Wow! This place was amazing..the staff are so helpful and lovely. We stayed 4 nights, and though it rained for half of our stay, we were more than happy to lounge inside the luxury of our room. The bed was really comfortable, with electronic curtains that you can draw from your bedside table, to either keep out the morning light or two take in the view of the river. Beautiful architecture throughout the complex, and great meals/breakfasts every day. Highly recommend this hotel!

Exceeded all of my expectations and blew my mind. One word \"Phenomonal\" experience. The staff name Aoi always greeted us with a smile and made our anniversary celebration more special by setting up rose petals in the tub and rose petals shaped in a heart in the center of our bed. Therefore, service was an A++!
Then, the decor and atmosphere was pure ZEN. This is what we were looking for. With the river in front of us and green grass everywhere, it just calms the mind and soul. A true escape from the rush of reality. They also have nightly Thai dance performers that you can enjoy while enjoying your high tea.
The breakfast was another heart stealer. Excellent!!
From A-Z. There were an huge selection of pastries, hot noodles soup, freshly pressed juices and fruits, and Thai food. My favorite were the Thai sausages. It's super flavorful and addictive. And of course, you have the standard American breakfast which I want to hear away from since I can get that in the States. It's just a jaw dropping amount of goodies that you can't say no to. It's worth gaining some pounds for for sure.
Overall experience, Anantara nailed it all!!
Service, atmosphere, food, price was right, cleanliness, acknowledgment, efficiency, amenities, etc.
The list goes on!
We will definitely come back again and again! My husband is still praising about it. This is my favorite resort!!

from the first moment our experience was perfect ..the check done in a lounge with preferences and options noted/.beautiful large rooms/.friendly efficient and knowledgeable staff..great food reseraunt options..the breakfast selection is the biggest and best i have experienced.
gym pool and spa facilities are outstanding.
we went to the hotels private E L E elephant park .what an amazing experience we were only 2 people and were treated to wonderful introduction to elephants,,they are well cared for treated with respect and seemed very happy ..
the best meal we had in thailand was at the hotel s thai vietnams restaurant,,
over all a wonderful few days

Beyond Expectation - Excellent Service

After a very efficient check in, our Relationship Manager Thanya asked if we've made any plans for our trip. We suggested a number of activities that we wanted to try out. Within an hour Thanya managed to produce a full three-day itinerary completed with options and brochures, sent directly to our room. Over the next three days the team has also helped us make additional amendments and bookings - all of which helped to make the stay extremely smooth and enjoyable.

Location was great - right on the river and just 5-min tuktuk ride (100 THB) to the Old City. The nearby River Market restaurant down the road serves authentic Thai food at a very reasonable price in a nice setting. Main temples are within 20-min walking distance.

Possibly the best Anantara that we've stayed at!

Nice hotel with a lot of perks!!!

My wife and I have really enjoyed our welcome greetings at the lobby, they offered us a very refreshing tea with few snacks while waiting for our check in. Our room was more than we would hope for, we got an upgrade and because it was our honeymoon, they gave us many amenities, and not to mention their friendly staffs and eloquent view; especially the spa, the pool, and the restaurants and the shopping areas; like the markets and the minimarts.

Wonderful resort

Love it a lot! We're very happy with the room's condition, staff and amazing breakfast buffet! Although it's a little far away from the old town, an easy 10-min tuk tuk ride will get you there. Just 3 minutes away there is a night market and a convenient store. Great value for the price paid.

I booked my reservation on Expedia. Upon check-in to this beautiful hotel, staff told us that we would not be staying at the main hotel, but rather, at their second, and less charming facility, across the street. It looked like a high-rise with condos, and we were told that we would not have access to the main pool. After about an hour of back and forth, and speaking with a manager, we were finally given a room in the main hotel, as we had originally expected. After that, service and experience were excellent, but I feel that I have to warn other travelers to confirm their room and take a print-out, so that they don't end up across the street and miss out on the experience and beauty of the main hotel.

Exceptional Hotel in the heart of Chiang Mai

Upon arrival we were greeted with a special drink and seated while they checked us in. Our accommodations were outstanding, spacious and with abundant thought out in to providing guests with an excellent stay. The hotel offered a beautiful breakfast buffet with an abundant variety of options. They offer afternoon tea and have exemplary restaurants and staff. Definitely a 5 star hotel with 5 star staff!

We were given a suite in a building across of the hotel, terrible view of neighbouring roofs and garbage. We were not allowed to use the hotel Poole. The balcony is very narrow, barely fit a chair

Fantastic hotel - great location, staff & service. We had a slight issue with check in ( Expedia says it 2pm check in the hotel policy 3pm) this was dealt with really well by the customer relations manager and free afternoon tea was enjoyed by the family. Breakfast has many tasty options, the cocktail bar was great - Look out for Dr X and her special cocktail suggestions, booking for drivers etc no issue. I would visit again.

Best hotel we have ever stayed in!!

This hotel ruined hotel experiences for the rest of my life because nothing will ever live up to it. We stayed here on our honeymoon and it was truly a special place. The staff is beyond sweet and caring, everyone knows you by name and literally runs over to help you in anyway they can if they see you may need something. Everyone from the lobby staff, restaurant, pool seems so genuinely happy to be adding to your experience.
Food at the restaurants were great and they have pretty much anything you want and if not they would be happy to make it. The rooms and the overall design was meticulous. I'd call it Japanese/contemporary/modern... Just beautiful. Photos don't do this place justice.

The tai massage at the spa was amazing and the private boxing class we took was so much fun. Lots of cool stuff to do around the hotel area and the staff helps you plan anything you need so that you feel safe which we felt was important when you travel to a country you are not familiar with.

Great location in walking distance from the night markets and temples but also secluded enough on the river that when your in the resort you are in such a calm place to be with your loved ones. This isn't the \"pool party\" hotel type of place... Go to this hotel if you want to see and experience all the best sites in Chang Mai and then come back, dive into a quiet pool have a beautiful dinner and be in a truly zen hotel.

The hotel grounds are very beautiful, excellent condition, and comfortable environment. We got upgraded to a suite which is huge and very comfortable with very beautiful balconies. However, i could always hear the street noise from my room which I find very disturbing. Breakfast selection was ok but food wasn't amazing, also room service menu was extremely expensive. Service was ok, although a couple of times when we asked for transportation recommendations, we were always quoted the higher rates and didn't get enough advice on all available options.

This is a beautiful colonial style hotel that we have stayed at many times. Every time it just gets better and better! The service is truly fantastic - from the neck and shoulder massage you get upon arriving and whilst checking-in, to the most amazing pool attendant who literally runs everywhere to get cold towels, ice-water, set out your towel etc! The restaurants are very good - the service is impeccable and quality of food excellent. If you wish for a relaxing, quiet getaway then do consider the Anantara. The only slight negative is that the Spa prices are quite expensive when compared to other placed not located within a hotel. However you do get what you pay for and the Hotel spa is very calming and well appointed.

One of the most gorgeous hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. I wish I could design it for my house the same way! It was so beautiful in the layout and materials, from the folding door in front of the bathtub, to the rain shower and separate toilet stall, to the sliding back door onto my own private balcony. Serene and Romantic in an Old Colonial Surrounding

Our stay at the Anantara Chiang Mai was a rare opportunity for us to travel without children. The arrival at night, with the water and candle displays, made it so serene and romantic. The staff in all areas were absolutely polite and service was top notch. We especially enjoyed the colonial surroundings and the high class feeling of the old English Consulate. The highlight of our stay was certainly the Spice Spoons Cooking Class...an absolute experience to learn about Thai culture.

Is There a Better Hotel Anywhere? I Think Not!

This is now my favorite hotel in the world. Quiet & serene, warm & welcoming, with an outstanding staff that just couldn't do enough for us.

We could have stayed Anywhere in town, but chose the Anantara. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.

Impeccable service.

The service was impeccable. The cooking class was more than double in price than the one a few doors down the street but all worth it. Getting to cook in a 5 star hotel's working kitchen is amzing. Chef Songpol was great and made every dish look simple.
The staff were all great.

Great hotel but some rooms very noisy.

The welcome we received in the Kasara lounge at the Anantara Chiang Mai was second to none, and I have stayed in a lot of hotels over the years and I score this welcome 10 out of 10. The first suite we had was adjacent the road junction and the construction site (their new serviced apartment building). This would be fine but as the hotel is open to the elements it meant the room was very noisy from very early in the morning. We moved to a suite nearer the river and peace and calm were restored. It is a great hotel with great staff (especially the gent who looks after the pool area - a genuine big smile and great service at all times) and good facilities (gym is first class too). The food is worth the expense as it is fantastic. Breakfast was sometimes a little overwhelmed by people and staff were stretched. The only other niggle was having to log in to the wifi pretty much every time you moved although it worked well once you'd put your passwords in, again. Overall I have to agree with everyone's reviews and would score the Anantara Chiang Mai a 9 out of 10.

excellent hotel, price for room and breakfast was very good. spa prices outrageous, we went as a family to a little place down the road and saved a fortune. staff were great, very friendly, always willing to help. don't buy gifts in the hotel shop, again walk a little ways along the street to the market where everything is miles cheaper.

Wonderful Resort Anantara

The resort itself is quite wonderful with mainly very modern architecture plus the \"colonial\" Thai building for the restaurants. The ponds and pools are lovely and also the indoor tiled pool. The breakfast near to the river is excellent. All of the staff were very pleasant and courteous.Our room, a Kasara suite, was enormous in size and the bathroom was good. There was not very much wardrobe space. The twin single beds were small and I did not find the bed comfortable. The airconditioning was quite loud, noticeable at night. Overall though it is a great resort and very visually attractive. Near to other restaurants and one end of the night market. Highly Recommended overall.

Friendly staffs, prime location and nice environme

We took early flight to leave Chiang Mai. The staffs not only helped us to arrange taxi at early morning, they also helped us to prepare breakfast box before we asked them. I bought a internet SIM card but don't know how to activate. The staffs are very helpful to fix it.

We had a wonderful time at the resort and felt special and well pampered. The resort is exclusive, elegant and classy. The staff are extremely attentive. The food is superb. I would highly recommend it to everybody.

Best service, great location

We stayed here for our Honeymoon in March. The location is perfect, right on the picturesque river and 2 minutes from the night markets. The staff were also so polite, attentive and friendly. They spoke fluent English with a smooth accent - we never had trouble understanding them unlike other places in Thailand. We stayed in a suite and the benefits are 110% worth the upgrade. Check the hotel website as Expedia did not mention 3/4 of the inclusions. We would recommend to all our friends but not travel between March - May again as smoke was an issue in the city and blocked many views.

We had a great experience while staying at this beautiful hotel. The property is located in a great location-within walking distance to the lively night market. Lastly, the staff (each and every one of them) were all very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend Anantara Chiang Mai Resort & Spa.

The service of hotel is outstanding. It's next to the river, which you will enjoy the breakfast with fascinating sunrise. All the staffs are very attentive. Anatara is very near the night bazzar (if i spell it right...) If you good at motorbike, rent one. It will brings you to anywhere in the old town in 15 mins. I enjoyed staying in this hotel. Although the room is a bit small (basic one).

Average hotel. Not value for money

The Hotel does not look like a 5 Star hotel. It looks like a 3 star hotel.
The hotel is very dry. There are no activities in the hotel other than spa which also is average by Thai standards.

This hotel is not worth the money.

A perfect hotel, if not a resort

Welcomed and upgraded, everything about the stay was fantastic. This is a great hotel to stay in Luxury when in Chang Mai. River views, across from the night markets and a short distance from the old city.

Nice hotel and convenience to everywhere

Although the hotel area is not large, the room size is large and comfortable. Super clean environment, nice restaurant beside river, service is good. Only disadvantage is too many Chinese lived here so sometimes quite noisy.

Beautiful hotel, with small hiccups

The hotel is a beautiful hotel with outstanding looking rooms. I was charged an extra night on my credit card for a night i did not even stay there, i am still trying to resolve this issue, the other issue i had is they have a beautiful lobby lounge where u can relax and order drinks, after tellling two hotel staff members that we would like to order a drink we waited for over a half hour for a menu and no one showed up we left and complained at front desk. The hotel did make it right and comped us a bottle of wine with dinner. I am not one to complain, but a hotel of this caliber should be be servicing their clients immediately not having them wait. Both experiences do ot detract from the wonderful stay we had at the hotel. I would recommend the hotel to any discerning traveler.

Close to local restaurants and easily accessible

This hotel was good. My husband and I stayed for 3 nights. The location is great you can walk across the street and get good food for a cheap price. The night market is literally around the corner and great to visit. There are laundry places, coffee shops, and restaurants surrounding the hotel. The only downfall is being by the river, there was so much noise so we didn't get the best of sleeps.
