My check-in experience was fantastic, a room was made ready for us well before check-in time due to a special request. The day time manager was helpful, friendly and informative about the area which is perfect for city exploring!
Also the cleaning staff are amazing, our room was immaculate and when we required anything they were quick to assist.
A couple of things to be aware of, there is no 24 hour reception, a nightshift staff member is onsite but you will need to find him and wake him for assistance.
Also, there is nowhere closeby to purchase coffee before 8:30am so the free coffee machine facilities in the foyer are an amazing offer but take note, it is available 8am to 11pm, if you want coffee before your early flight or tour you are out of luck. And if you can find staff at 7:30am don’t bother asking them if the machine can be switched on 30 minutes early, I was rudely told it is against the rules.
Some people have complained about noise from the nearby nightclub, we had a canal facing room and noise was minimal. If you choose to open your windows for some fresh air you will get some street noise but otherwise no complaints.
The hotel is expensive for what you get but that is Amsterdam, everything is expensive. The rooms are small but again, Amsterdam has old unique boutique hotels which are renovated and not built for space.
BUT if you are looking for a clean hotel in a great location this is your place.

Property was clean and well located. Wish the coffee machine was on earlier. Sign says 8 am but when we left the building after 8 the machine was still not on and there was no one around the desk. Our room was muggy but away from the nightclub noise.

Room 55 (first floor - back of the building). Stayed on a Tuesday night. Single room with small double bed, coffee & tea, mini fridge, TV, and en-suite with shower. It was a nice clean room and a comfortable bed. It had a hook in the bathroom, and as there was no wardrobe it could do with a hook somewhere in the room for a coat. You get a nice stay, but skylight is the only window and as such this is a room for a quick stay over rather than a longer break. Hotel Oscar is located on the edge of the busy part of Amsterdam centre and easy to walk to from Amsterdam Centraal Station. Everything is within easy reach including the Metro.

On checking reviews the day before my trip they were inundated with comments about the nightclub situated behind Hotel Oscar. If you are at the back of the building you will hear this every night of the week. However, for me there was no room shaking, it was barely noticeable, more like a tap dripping. If you are a light sleeper and you focus on small noises I can see this may be annoying. When booking if you are concerned this may affect you book rooms at the front of the hotel. They do not offer upgrades.

Couple of Amsterdam Coffee Shops in this area for those that like that, absolutely no smoking allowed in this hotel.

The staff was great! Valet parking was essential. Room was clean and had a nice bathroom. HOWEVER, it felt like I was sleeping between two bass speakers all night unti 4:00 AM when the nearby band or bar quit playing music.

For me it was good, nice and central. The building is old and you can hear a nightclub next door (or behind) at night but the positive was that the shower was a good size even though the room was small.

Very warm room.
Everything clean, towels are a bit tired I’d say.

All in all good but it’s not a luxury hotel.

Nice spacious room for 4 people. Renovated bathroom. Comfortable bed and pillows. Excellent location. Felt very safe. We were able to walk to all the sights we wanted to see.

This is a well run and friendly hotel. It is very convenient to walk to all the major attractions. The only downside is that it is right in the middle of the city which has bars playing loud music u til 4 am.

Clean and friendly hotel but LOUD clubs around

Had a great stay. Overall the hotel was clean and staff was friendly. Loved having the coffee machine and water in the lobby. The only thing was it was VERY hard to sleep. Between the hours of 11pm and 4am there was music from nearby clubs where you could hear and even feel the bass from the music. I woke up each night and had a hard time falling back asleep even with earplugs.

Excellent location, staff very friendly and helpful. Loved the coffee machine. Rooms are a bit tight, but lovely view of the canal. There is a nightclub on the next street which backs to this hotel. Can hear the base through the walls. Would last till around 3:00 a.m. but if you ask the front desk they will give you ear plugs. Would stay here again.

Hotel Oscar is a great hotel, very clean and right in the center of Amsterdam BUT, I was woken up around 10:30pm to loud music that went on till 2:30am. I will not stay at this hotel again, nor do I recommend it, especially if you are a light sleeper. It is unfortunate, because it is a great hotel--just can't handle the music at night during sleeping hours--maybe the hotel needs to give their patrons ear plugs to help with the loud noise.

The hotel was great. Staff were lovely and very helpful and the rooms were clean and comfortable. However be warned the noise from nearby clubs is very loud and sometimes does not stop until 5am! The loxation is excellent and I would consider staying again, but maybe not in the weekend!

The only down side we like to go to bed early and the local bars have bands/music playing till 5.00am.

Good and bad.

The good thing is that the room have small fridge, kettle ac etc. Well equipt in a small space.
The not good is the cleanines of the shots and towel (I guess not a good laundry. Not at all actually). And very thin was, seems like made from paper. You hear everything!. From other rooms- next to/ above you/ the club down/ every door being open. Also one receptionist was rude snicky guy and made me very uncomfortable.

Great modern rooms. Free coffee and tea in room and common area on main level. Hotel is clean and nicely decorated. Stairs are very steep but fortunately it also has an elevator. Location is excellent. Only downside was that it was pride weekend and the noise level was extreme. Music was playing until 5 AM and could be heard from 1/2 mile away. Streets were filthy with debris but that was to no fault of the hotel. If we had known we would have picked a different weekend but hotel was great.

The room was good except that it was at the very top of the building so it involved going up a very steep staircase after getting off the elevator, but understandable in this old building. The problem was the parking situation that led us to lose valuable time and money, missing a tour we had scheduled. The staff member at the desk talked me into paying for a parking garage, telling me it was close by- it wasn’t. It was 25 minutes away from the hotel, and terrible traffic and construction kept us from getting to it for an hour, ultimately requiring us to pay for another one entirely that we found by ourselves. The QR code he gave me to pay for the parking garage originally said it would be 32€ and it wound up being 45€, which would’ve been the same cost as the valet option that he veered me away from, clearly because there are so few parking options, so far from the hotel and impossible to get to because of construction.

It was an ok place. The room was way too small. The view of the canal and surrounding areas was cool. The staff was ok with the exception of Monmoy. He was excellent. He was nice and very helpful. It was a bit noisy outside most of the time. I don't think I would stay there again.

TERRIBLE. DON'T BOOK.

I booked the 'superior' room. There was nothing superior about it. Terrible experience. YOU CAN'T SLEEP. I repeat, you cannot sleep here. There's a club next door that has the loudest base that stops at 4 am! Also, everything creaks, and I can hear the movements of my upstairs neighbors.

It's a small simple hotel by the canal. Free coffee and water in the lobby lounge for guests. Location was perfect but at night especially weekend can be very noisy from the bar next door.

It’s impossible to sleep during night, the loud music from a techno bar goes on nonstop until 5:00am. When asked the concierge what can be done, the only offered solution was the ear buds.

Just spent a few days in Amsterdam and stayed at the Oscar. The hotel was great. Right on a canal in a very active area and within a block from shopping, restaurants, bars etc, The hotel is clean and very well kept. The staff are friendly and very helpful. It is about a 30-35 minute (70 Euro Uber) ride from Schiphol airport.
If/when we get back to Amsterdam we will definitely stay at the Hotel Oscar again. I highly recommend it.

This hotel is incredibly noisy. Read all the reviews first - it’s next door to a famous night club that operates most nights of the week until 5 am - regardless of what floor you’re on, you will hear the music/bass.
