Rooms and staff hospitality were fantastic. Had to take a Star away for the dining area. Food was good but zero ambiance. No background music or decorations on the walls, and it looked like someone set up card tables with tablecloths. Plain and uninspiring. Bar area and bartenders were top notch. Fantastic drinks!

I loved it. Comfortable room and bed. Excellent food. Friendly and helpful staff. Glorious spa and 2 free activities. Indoor and outdoor pools. Overlooking the beach. Short walk to town centre. Some say it needs an external paint job and it does. But that did not spoil my visit.

Sofitel Biarritz - July 2025

Overall the hotel was quite nice. Our room was clean and comfortable, all amenities you need for a pleasant stay. The staff were friendly and helpful when checking-in. The outdoor pool was also clean. Generally, the hotel was showing signs of needing some refreshing (e.g. rust and peeling paint). Unfortunately we had a very disappointing experience at the spa and would definitely not recommend. My partner is not the type to complain but he said his massage was terrible. The spa therapist had poor technique (my partner described it as being similar to someone slapping on suncream) and they ran out of massage oil causing a lot of friction and discomfort. Very disappointing and unacceptable given the treatment cost of €135. We had pre-paid for the treatment and tried to give feedback when checking-out of the hotel, however the receptionist said it was her first day and did not know how to handle the complaint. The general spa facilities were average, I expected much better based off the hotel’s website. At nearly £300 per night, I generally think the hotel is overpriced.

We had booked two rooms and unfortunately, the staff somehow only acknowledged one of the reservations, only after sharing the confirmation from Expedia and quite a bit of back-and-forth. Did they finally agree that two rooms were booked unfortunately even though it was in the evening, they made us wait quite sometime for the availability of the second room. However, let me be clear that the location is excellent.

The restaurant accommodated us for a late supper last night and it was a magical experience with a gorgeous sunset view.

My family booked this hotel thinking it looked like the pictures on the internet – it didn’t; the Sofitel Biarritz needs an URGENT refurbishment as it looks awful.
This Sofitel property should be taken away the 5* status immediately, as in reality, it has the condition of a 3*.
The carpets across the hotel are extremely old, the terrace of my room was falling apart (see pictures), and the entire outside is oxidated and looks like an old hotel in very poor condition.
The pictures in my review speak for itself. If you wish to have an awful experience as I did room 412 and experience the awful holiday, book the Sofitel!

I left a brand new coat (wrapped i a hanger) inside my bag inside my car and paid valet parking ($30 a day) only to have my coat taken from either my car or my room.
Called manager and she said she would get back to me with an answer and I am now waiting for her call.
It is unreal that this happens in a Sofitel Hotel. Very disapointed and very disturbed. I hope the manager comes up with my coat and finds the employee responsible

Reception and car valet staff were very friendly. The rest were not.
Spa area is a joke. Pool was dirty. Never managed to catch the shop open - so French!
Building is like an old lady and on its own is not the problem. Staff appeared poorly managed.
To finish on a positive the bed was amazing.

Spring holiday trip with a baby and an 11yo.

The perfect hotel for our stay as it has an indoor pool, and the outdoor pool is heated so despite overcast weather my kids were entertained. The beach was on the doorstep too.
Front desk staff were so friendly and welcoming whenever approached. The staff that serviced the room were amazing, from realising which of the coffee pods I used and giving me more of those, to leaving chocolates on the pillow during turn down service, to checking bath robe sizing with us for the children. I really appreciated their contribution to making our stay so comfortable.
The swimming pool life guards were also just so helpful and friendly.
Room comfort....those beds and pillows, so comfy. Even the baby slept well.

Unbelievable property with a view to die for! We had an ocean view room which was really special. My only critique is that the hotel is a little dated. I understand it is hard to have it look new when it is an older property and I think every attempt was made to have it look fresh and clean which it did. We enjoyed it and the extremely helpful staff! They were just so professional and so friendly.

Very disappointing, the hotel is in desperate need of entire renovation, tiles are falling off the balcony, hinges of glass balustrades are rusty, paint is peeling.
Carpet in the corridors is badly stained.
The hotel is certainly showing its age and it does not seem to have been touched up or renovated in many many years.
The room and bathroom decor is very dated. The furniture is showing it’s age through scratches, torn and stained fabrics in both rooms and public dining areas.Pool needs a complete revamp.
On the upside though the staff are very pleasant and accommodating, service is excellent, however, they seem to be very apologetic about the state of the entire hotel.
For the price The Hôtel charges which is between 600 to €700 per night it is absolutely ludicrous to what is being offered in five star hotels in many parts of the world.
I would certainly recommend to avoid until the hotel will be thoroughly renovated within the next two years as I was told.
Subsequently my wife and I checked out much earlier than we had planned.

Go for the outdoor pool

We went there mostly for the spa area. Outdoor swimming pool fantastic; indoor pool soso. Our classic was very comfortable though not too modern. Very little view of the sea. Bathroom very dated and is the only thing that does not feel 5 stars. Breakfast very good though at 30 euros was a bit much. Parking is obligated and is at 30 euros.

Superb hotel for a complete relaxing break away. The Spa is perfect for rejuvenating a very tired mind and body. Saltwater outdoor pool... heated. Perfect. Gym and SAUNA are good. Small but grand for hotel workout. The indoor saltwater pool is Great. Warm and relaxing with Jacuzzi.
Rooms are large. Floor to ceiling windows. We had a view of the hotel courtyard and the sea. The beds are extremely comfy. King size. The espresso machine was a bonus. Well needed every morning!
Biarritz is Great. Quirky little town with specialty shops and pinxto bars. Steak restaurants a plenty. Great wine and we even found 1 craft beer pub. Sigh.... happiness.

5 star hotel, great location but poor value

I chose this hotel, hoping for 5-star luxury on a well-deserved break for me and my girlfriend. We enjoyed our stay but ultimately came away underwhelmed by the experience. To summarise, the 5 star rating felt more like a penalty than a benefit. The main driver for this was the cost of other services. Shortly after arrival, we ordered two half-size beers at pool side - they cost €8 each! A full size beer was €14! You can guess how much the food cost. After the first drink, we did not order a single item of food or drink from the hotel - especially when Biarritz has lots of better value options nearby. We are not budget travellers, but object to being ripped off for the convenience of ordering at the hotel. We also saw some comically astronomical prices for massages etc.

While the hotel does tick all the boxes of a 5 star (e.g. indoor/outdoor pools, spa, nice beds etc). The whole decoration, finishing and vibe of the hotel is starting to feel extremely dated. Reminds me of hotels from the 80s and 90s. Compared to other 4/5 star hotels I have stayed recently, it could do with upgrading to modern furniture, styling and products. While the hotel has lots of interior space, the layout is confusing and most of the areas feel sterile and under used.

On the plus side, the bed in the room was extremely large and comfortable. The outdoor pool is really nice and the views are great. Free access to the Sauna and Hamamm was good. The location is perfect.

great last minute booking

we hadn't planned on visiting Biarritz, but are so happy we did! was an added stop on a big group trip from Bordeaux to San Sebastian (to escape our haunted castle accommodations a day early, but that's another story). Sofitel was available last minute. Nice facilities and room, though perhaps starting to show some signs of aging. Didn't use the pool, as it was raining, but it looked nice and would be lovely next to the sea on a sunny day (there is also an indoor pool/spa but didn't get to check it out). Good location, about 15-20 min walk from the town and bars/restaurants.

service was good - friendly front staff, and concierge gave excellent restaurant recommendations. we also had an issue with a nonfunctioning AC and the staff, while unable to get it to work or find another room in the middle of the night, did their best and brought a large fan as well.

Classy place in need of some TLC

I loved our stay, with everyone so friendly and attentive.
The kids were treated as \"princesses\" with their own toiletries and welcome pack (colouring in etc)
The hotel is need of renovation (you'll read this in my other reviews), but you pay for what you get and the hotel was full (which tells a story in itself).
One tip: Lunch pool side portions were enormous - try not to over order!

Musty hotel that needs some renovation

The hotel sits on the beach which is nice, but if your room is too low, you'll have people looking right into your room. The hallways smell musty, beds are not that comfortable and the AC didn't work. Also, the pool is a salt water pool, which might sound nice, but if you know what it's like to stay on the coast, you'll know that a nice clorinated pool is a lot better and more refreshing. You get out of the pool feeling like you are caked with salt. I'd recommend they go to clorinated pool and if guests really want salt water they can just go to the beach. The beach is pretty and very active. I thought this hotel was a 3 star hotel with a nice view.

Good newish Hotel. Very clean and the Staff excellent.
Our bedroom was disappointing in that whilst all the comforts were in place internally we were allocated possibly the worst location to claim to have a sea view In the hotel. The balcony did not receive one second of Sun due to its position , so was never useable. Not really like the description we were given.
Having said that , apart from the Restaurent prices( with no alternative eating place) the food and service provided was very good.

Paid €360 exc breakfast for standard room but decided to upgrade for another €140
Room overlooked the sea and pool and was a good location but small and very tired looking .
Bathroom old fashioned and small with basic shower over bath .
Restaurant average , but pool bar poor and ridiculously expensive . €24 for a club sandwich without fries and €12 for a small beer !

Stayed in Sofitels before and rate this as worst .

This is not a Sofitel 5 stars. I had severe problems with the air conditioning, and the hotel is not well maintained, specially in the corridors and common areas. I had a terrible noise wakening me up on the second night, and they discounted a 20% in the room rate because of that. That was ok, but overall, really disappointed with this stay.

Fitness centre either had no air conditioning or was closed:pool area tightly packed sun beds with decking too hot to walk on: very limited facility in room to charge phones etc Overall wish we had chosen another hotel given what we were paying.

This hotel is beautiful, in a gorgeous convenient location. I have never slept in a bigger and more luxurious bed!! It was bigger than a king, the pillows were glorious, and the linen perfect. The room itself was luxurious as well. Great service. Highly recommended.

Aside from the exorbitant fees for in-hotel dining (even buffet), the only snag was not being allowed to check-in until after 4:00 p.m. as per hotel policy. After finally checking in, it also took more than a half-hour and a follow-up visit to reception to get our luggage delivered to the room. We were told that we could leave our luggage while waiting to check-in, but not our one bag that contained valuables. Otherwise, the hotel is brilliant.

The architecture is atrocious, the taste of the public rooms disappointing, the facilities: swimming pools, treatments excellent.
The room had a view of the sea and you could hear the vawes which was lovely.
The bed was very comfortable, the chairs had stains on the seats which in a hotel of those pretensions is unacceptable, the bathroom was fine except that there was no extractor fan, again not up to the stars....
We only had dinner in the restaurant once, the dining room has a low ceiling, ugly decor, over complicated food. There are some pleasanter restaurants in Biarritz with classic French food...

Crazily expensive hotel near the beach

Obviously, it's a 5* hotel so looks lavish on arrival, but when you've booked a basic room, that's what you get!! Makes you feel like the poor relative. Frankly, I've had much better rooms in 3 & 4 star hotels at a much better price!

Secondly, the hotel feels justified in charging extortionate amounts for basic items, and 60 euros per person for a buffet lunch is laughable. After our first drink on arrival, we never used the hotel for food or drink again, prices just were not justifiable

Lastly, we felt a bit stung going into this because Expedia advertised it as £900 odd down from around £2400 but in fact the higher price is full board but for the lower price it is basic room only, so it wasn't an offer at all! I did bring this up with them, but they chose to ignore it, so I clearly won't be using their dubious service again!!

Great hotel - just check construction first

Overall I enjoyed my stay at the Sofitel - the customer service is excellent and the staff, hotel manager and concierge will do everything and anything to help make your stay comfortable. The hotel is right on the beach as promised and is only a short walk to the main part of town. I was originally given a room with a terrace overlooking the front entrance, but I still had an ocean view so didn't complain. However on my second night a laundry service truck made a 3am delivery for over an hour directly below my room and luckily I was able to be switched to a different room the next day. As for construction, there was a lot of it going on. During the day by the outdoor pool there was a lot of scaffolding and workers doing exterior maintenance. Also, the indoor salt water pool was closed for repair - which would have come in handy on the rainy days.

Great Hotel

Lovely hotel in a quiet but convenient location. You can hear the waves crash on the beach, but you get beautiful uninterrupted views of the rocks in the bay. The breakfast was expensive €26 for coffee, croissant and orange juice. The woman in the spa was pretty rude when I went to check out the facilities. Was not impressed by a tax bill at the end of my 5 night stay.

Spa hotel in Biarritz

This hotel surpassed my expectations. The staff were polite and attentive, and clearly took pride in their work. The spa facilities and swimming pool were fabulous, and the views over the sea stunning. I will definitely go back!

Wonderful spa hotel with a unique location

I'm a regular at the Sofitel and always receive a great service - both at the hotel and at the spa, which is one of the true spa with proven benefits in France.
As a French citizen living in London, I can only get a \"French escape\" infrequently and for a maximum of 10 days, and I always make a point of coming to the Miramar, which kills many birds with the same stone: amazing location in a beautiful city (Biarritz), delicious food, great wines, and all the benefits from the spa anyone who is calory-conscious and health-focused. Having said that, the stay is not cheap and for that price - even blaming the busy summer season - the rooms would benefit from offering more space and functionalities. Superior rooms are priced like a junior suite in another hotel while they're not.
I find the staff really helpful and welcoming - particularly Dorothee in Guest Relations, who has done an outstanding job at solving problems and making sure I had a smooth stay.

great hotel, wonderful stay

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at this hotel. The outdoor pool was fabulous and the room was very comfortable. The only criticism we would have is that terrace was quite small and there is no separate shower (in any of the rooms we were told), so we had to shower in the bath. For a 5 star hotel we found this surprising. Otherwise it was very luxurious, the children had a fabulous time and the location on the beach was perfect.

Very nice hotel and staff. The outside is a little stark but inside is very nice . Great spa and right on the beach. You can not be the location of this hotel...a charming walk to town on a walkway the follows the beach. 10 minutes to town.

Shame about the building works, our request to move rooms was auctioned straight away, it was just a surprise to be woken on a Saturday morning by someone drilling on the other side of the wall that the bed was against! Otherwise, an amazing break

Biarritz Spa

The hotel lobby and common areas are in great condition. But all the terraces need work and due to the salt water alot of wear and tear is showing. rooms could use some updating as well but are well appointed. If you are here for the SPA then you are in heaven, the pool and spa treatments are 1st class and well worth the money spent. Location is hard as you must drive to get anywhere close to the town, but it is on the beach and away from the crowds. I would come back here just for the Spas. Traveler from New York City.

The Pros and Cons of Luxury

THE CONS: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are all disasters. Don't eat at the hotel, period. They are short-staffed, don't have enough clean tables, didn't have menus in English (only in the room) and everything is SUPER overpriced. When we did get a table, we kept getting asked what our room number was (like they thought we didn't belong at a \"fancy\" hotel or something.) We also waited... A LOT. We left our empty table (and sometimes waiting for a table) on a few occasions to walk to the city to eat instead. We felt more welcome at the restaurants/cafes outside of the hotel where we also didn't pay an arm and a leg, got what we wanted and were treated well. Room service was sub-par for the hotel being considered \"luxury\". We got a salad and a club sandwich. The salad had a few leaves of lettuce, all of the tomatoes were peeled/unappetizing and a ton of salty croutons with over-oily dressing, the sandwich was soggy and had an unidentifiable vegetable on it... (heart of palm? rotten avocado? grey egg yolk? I'll never know). Again, go out to eat, you'll thank me. THE PROS: The front desk staff are AMAZING. They communicate well, are friendly and always want to help. The room was always impeccable.The pool was well taken care of. The location was nice too- on the beach and about 10min from the center of the city by foot. Easy easy. In summary: This was NOT a luxury hotel experience for us.

We were very pleased, and the location was fantastic. We had made reservations for 2 rooms back in MAY, Our e-mail confirmation showed we had 2 sea view rooms, but when we arrived we were told NO sea views. The desk clerk was kind enough to change our rooms, and the views from our balcony were wonderful. We also enjoyed our time out at the pool, and the service at the pool was also very pleasant. No complaints - the Sofitel was terrirfic.

Lovely hotel - great relaxing break !!!

Although this hotel does not look so pleasant from the exterior and really the website does not do it justice - once inside it is a pleasant and relatively luxurious five star hotel. Rooms were nice with fantasic and comfortable HUGE bed !! All amenities ie bar, restaurant and poolside were lovely. We would certainly consider returning.

Great value for money luxury

This is a very nice hotel, great location and fantastic facilities. Pools, gym and by the beach. Compared to alternative stays in Biarritz the classic room rate is very good value. If you plan to eat and drink in the hotel I would recommend half board as the prices are extortionate. Watch the mini bar and orders by the pool meticulously and prepare for some discussion when settling your bill as they got everything mixed up. As a base it's great - staff were not very friendly or helpful. That was the only disappointment.

Fantastic location and pool, food mundane.

First the good - The location is excellent, right by a lovely sandy beach, with the lovely inviting and well maintained heated outdoor seawater pool overlooking the beach. The hotel also has an excellent indoor pool.
The centre of Biarritz is about a 10 minutes' stroll away, either along the promenade or through the main street.
Then the not so good - The evening food was uninteresting, expensive and lacked variety. The breakfast was better, but poor value at 28 euros - it was much better to go to a friendly little cafe less than 10 minutes away and have coffee and croissants for about 3 - 5 euros (La Ferme St. Charles in Rue du Lycee) while watching the world go by.
Finally the \"they meant well\", but! - The hotel had a policy that every five towels reused (rather than washed) would mean one tree saved, but any used towels were changed at least daily (someone comes round after 5 p.m. to check). The colour of the notice to hang on the outside of the door (Do not disturb/Please make up my room) was the same both sides. If one left out a notice \"Do not disturb\" they would check at 3 p.m. - it was obviously more important to them that the room was cleaned rather than that guests were not disturbed in the afternoon.

Lovely hotel with large very comfortable rooms.Very restful at night with the sound of the waves crashing on the beach. Stayed there in mid june when it was nice and quiet ,weather very pleasant. Pools were lovely and although I did not use it there was a very impressive wellness area. Its a litle outside the town but I Would definately stay here again. M

The location is very good and the facilities are what you expect from a spa hotel. The staff were very nice and helpful, especially the gentleman who did the valet parking. The breakfast and bar food were very nice. The only negative was the slightly strange aroma in the common areas.

La vue est en effet incroyable et l’accès à la plage privilégié… pour le reste, on est très loin des standard d’un 4 étoiles. Tout est extrêmement vieux. Non rénové depuis au moins 20 ans. Il n’y a pas de mini bar dans la chambre, la pression de l’eau est extrêmement faible et la positon « chaud » serait plutôt tiède. Aucune prises de courant dispo dans la chambre, très mauvaise isolation phonique. La TV fait la taille de mon écran de pc portable, la carte des vins du bar et très limité… etc
