The staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a fabulous time. Shoutout to Arturo for making us feel welcome. The rooms were clean & the hotel has everything you could ever need. Was extremely happy, especially for the price. I would absolutely stay here again, we can't wait to come back!

Hospitality at this hotel was amazing. My room and view were perfection as well. I loved this small resort with the personalized service. The beach was relaxing. The hammocks on the dock and paddle boards were my favorite. I would definitely stay here again!

We had a very lovely and relaxing stay of 6 nights. The hotel is situated right on the beach of a bay with a reef, where you can walk up and down the beach.
The hotel is very clean, the beds very comfortable, and the aircon very good. There are sockets at the head bedside.
The restaurant is excellent - we didn't need to look anywhere else. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
I would recommend getting a hire care, as the hotel is a little out from Tulum (which is also its charm - you can't have it both ways 😉).

This is a small, simple, elegant hotel, very well cared for by a devoted team. Casa Altamar has personality, nice design, beautiful wood finishing/furniture, woven rugs and lampshades, it feels connected to the location. The place is spotless, rooms are cleaned every day. The landscaping is naturalistic and very well done, exotic flowers and palms moving in the breeze. It’s also very functional, the windows have insect screens, it’s air conditioned, there’s a place to wash off sand by the doors. The water for food prep and drinking is purified, coffee, juice and fruit is freely available in the morning. This made me feel almost like a guest in a private home. The location is a 15 minute taxi ride from Tulum town, right on the beach, which is edged with palm trees. We swam every day in the warm sea, saw fishes and a manta ray. You can walk for hours along the beach. The staff here are very special and there is a happy vibe, the restaurant has a terrace with a sea view where you can hang out and enjoy freshly prepared delicious food. Sad to leave! Kudos to Arturo, Amin, John, Diane, Javier and all the staff. Tip: bring water shoes as there are some rocks getting into the sea. Also, you can get a collectiva bus into Tulum for about 35 pesos if you want to party or try other restaurants.

Our room was beautiful, comfortable and spacious. We loved the pool and ocean access, and lounging on the beach. The staff at Casa Altamar were the best we met on our 2 week trip to Mexico. They were so kind, accommodating and thoughtful.

Tulum is a unique destination, with different \"zones,\" each with their own vibe. Casa Altamar is north of the town center and \"party\" beach area. That means you get a quiet and secluded beach (huge plus!) It is a 15min drive to town if you want to explore other parts of Tulum and there are only a few restaurant options nearby, though the hotel's own restaurant is tasty and reasonably priced for the area. It isn't a sandy entry-point beach but the water is beautiful to swim in, they provide snorkels, paddleboards and kayaks.

Stayed here 6 nights, absolutely loved it!

- 30 feet water to door
- kayaks, paddleboards, water shoes, etc. kayaked each day, and always got equipment
- BEST place overall was 2 hammocks at end of the pier!
Maintenance
- many other properties have 'sargasso' problems - thick, smelly, decaying seaweed
- Casa Altamar shovels and removes sargasso daily to keep beach clean
- similar diligence cleaning bird poop off pier, vs other nearby hotels
Staff
- Arturo, Javier, Armin, and others all excellent!
- learned our names, food preferences, assisted concerning sites, or refilling bottles
- spoke English at least as well as my Spanish :)
Restaurant
- AMAZING! small menu, but everything *fresh*, well-prepared and presented
- favs are tacos arracheras, skirt steak, and everything shrimp
- directly above our room - but closes at 9:30PM. happy whole area quiet by 10PM
Couple negatives
- room advertised as having kitchenette, balcony, and 'laptop compatible safe'
- no kitchen, or even mini-fridge in room
- tiny (3 sq ft) area outside a sliding door just to hang clothes to dry
- safe fits passports or smartphones max. not anchored, and weighs 5 pounds

That I'm giving a 5-star review despite the issues says a lot about how great Casa Altamar is. These issues need fixed - with the room, or the listing.

However, the property is just so stellar in general.
Would definitely want to stay here again next time in Tulum!

The rooms were clean and very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. They went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to relax. The beach is just a minute away, and the property features a pier with hammocks, a swimming pool, and boards for exploring the water.

I absolutely loved staying at Casa Altamar for my weeklong trip to Tulum. The room was gorgeous and clean, with an ocean view, strong AC and hot water. The facilities were beautiful, quiet and thoroughly relaxing, with laid back beach resort vibes. I agree with the many other reviewers mentioning the top notch staff. I was travelling mostly solo and really appreciated how friendly and helpful everyone was. The only downsides to mention are that there was no fridge in the room, and the restaurant/bar are quite expensive (on par with the other touristy places along the beach in the area, but much pricier than many places in downtown Tulum). You also really need a car if you want to regularly leave the hotel as it’s about a 20 minute drive into town and taxis cost 500 pesos each way. With a car, getting around is very easy and affordable. Thanks Casa Altamar - I would return in a heartbeat!

It was a calm peaceful hotel. We paid for an ocean view room however our view was a pool view and the ocean could only be seen from the balcony. 20 mins drive to tulum central and the hotel zone. If interested to head that way, rent a car because taxis are very pricey. They offer kayaking, canoeing, paddle board in front of the hotel. When it gets dark, not much to do in the hotel as the restaurant closes at 9pm. No TV in the rooms. Overall, friendly staff and peaceful place to stay for a couple days.

Intermittent power cuts which lasted for 30 seconds or so at a time throughout the stay and no hot running water for the first two nights are the only thing that prevent this from being a five star review. Given the power cuts did not last long and the weather was so good that it was okay not to have hot water, we were willing to accept it at the time. The staff were excellent, the food delicious, the views were stunning and the facilities in general were beautiful. The road has guards posted on it for additional security for anyone who may be concerned about safety. I would advise anyone staying here to bring water shoes for piece of mind, as the seabed here is stony. Also, the road down to the hotel is potholed - I don't believe this is any fault of the hotel, just wanting to give a heads up.

I cannot say enough about what a great experience this was. If you are looking for somewhere to stay that is beautiful, quiet, not touristy, with great food, this is the place for you. The beach was amazing with glorious sunrises. My room was beautifully decorated and comfortable. The staff were the absolute best! I was a solo traveler and felt safe, comfortable, and welcomed. I will definitely be back. The only thing I would change is I would stay longer!

We won’t stay anywhere else.

This place is amazing, it’s a stunning location with world class service and food.

Snorkeling in the protected bay was the highlight for us. Crystal clear water, no seaweed and tons of marine life.

I can’t believe the deal we got on the place. I would have paid more and been completely happy. Excellent value away from the crowds in Tulum proper.

Lovely location. Quiet. Wonderful staff. There’s a center right down the road, within walking distance. Found this out when we were in town doing a biking tour. Not sure why they didn’t tell us about the obvious one practically on their property. We paid for 3rd floor ocean-view room but got a first floor side room with a barely view. :( It was nice, but we felt like the couple in White Lotus who got the wrong room. Power was out frequently but not their fault. Otherwise wonderful stay.

We had a great time relaxing on the beach; the service and food were impeccable! It is pretty secluded from other places, so if you want to travel around, I'd recommend having a car (though the road to the hotel is rough). We just hung out for 3 days, with walks along the beach.

What a great experience here, top notch all the way! There were 2 staff waiting to greet our taxi on arrival - one to take our luggage, the other to give us a tour. We were invited back to the restaurant for our Welcome Cocktails and pizza, both were fantastic. The staff take the time to get to know you and are dedicated to making your stay the very best.
This is a small boutique hotel with only 11 rooms, which allows for very professional, friendly personal attention. It is right on the beach, offering free use of paddle boards and kayaks plus beach chairs and a long pier with hammocks and stairs into the ocean.
The rooms are bright, clean and spacious with cleaning service daily.
It is located on the end of the beach closest to Playa del Carmen, in a very tranquil, quiet area. You will need a taxi to go into town, but tours will pick you up from here. If you want hustle/bustle and party time, this is NOT the area for you!
It's an incredible place and highly deserves all of the 5 stars it recieves.

Don’t hesitate! Amazing place

The reviews seemed too good to be true : it was even better! People are talking about the food and drinks - but to have been around the world and eaten at some of the best restaurants, this beats them all, hands down. The food could have easily been double the price given how delicious it was. And the drinks are so original and unique, better than anything in downtown Tulum.

The place is clean and smells really good, the beach is rocky but they lend you shoes and snorkeling gear to go to the sandy side and to top it, you can paddle board or kayak for free. Service is exceptional.

We left our all inclusive hotel for a couple of nights and this stay was beyond what we expected.

The Best!

Casa Altamar is wonderful. I researched a lot of places to stay before coming and I really feel I found the best place in Tulum - these guys exceeded my expectations at every turn. The staff is all so wonderful and welcoming. They go above and beyond to help with whatever need or request that comes up (including a last minute COVID test due to my own bad planning). The location is outside the city / chaotic hotel zone, which I think was absolutely the right move. After venturing to la zona hotelera one night, I know I would not have wanted to stay in that chaos. Casa Altamar feels much more secluded, quiet, and tranquil. The food is great and the service feels family-like. I hear the management is great too, that they care for their employees, and it really shows in how hotel guests are treated and the overall vibe of the hotel. I will be back… hopefully very soon soon!

What a gem! Stayed 5 nights in Sept 2021 and it was perfect. Not only was the room actually MORE beautiful than the photos (they have since hung some art), but everything was as promised. We booked the king bed ocean view room, and ended up in room 1 with windows all looking right out onto the ocean. Breakfast was included and was exactly as pictured on their instagram (fruit bowl, granola, bread coffee, juice). Service was incredible and everyone knew our names. Free kayaks and SUP boards that you don't need to check out - just haul them into the water. Snorkel gear for free if you ask for it. Hot water for showers. Easy parking on site.
FYI: it's about 15 min drive north of Tulum town, and 25 min north of the hotel zone (because the hotel zone road is terrible and takes forever to drive on). We LOVED where it was though because it was quiet and we could snorkel right off their instagram-worth pier. Restaurant food was excellent, with prices a touch lower than in the hotel zone, but same quality. Beach is a tiny bit rocky, but I didn't mind and was always barefoot without issue.

This place is truly a hidden gem. Beautiful location on such a beautiful property. Restaurant is delicious and the staff treats you like family. Staff were so helpful with anything we needed, staff go far and beyond to make your stay perfect. We were worried about the seaweed problem but this location didn't get hit so hard and they have staff cleaning anything that does hit the beach everyday. Seaweed not an issue at this location! Rooms are very clean and AC is allowed to be on anytime we wanted. My wife and I love this place! We will be staying here anytime we come to Tulum.

We came in late & they had Sandwiches ready for us... The staff are so personable, kind, respectful, funny, and by the end they feel like family. Casa Altamar, It’s truly a Casa. You feel at home every step of the way. I would tell even the people I hate they need to do. I have traveled the world, This is my new home away from home.

The food requires a whole different review. It’s better than anything you will get in Cancun. It’s fresh, It’s tasty as hell, and it’s honestly some of the best food you will ever get to experience in your entire life.

To anyone reading this. If you’re flying to Cancun, Don’t stay in Cancun. Go to Tulum & STAY AT CASA ALTAMAR! 5 Stars to everyone there! I could go on for hours! Thank you for the life changing stay!!! We will be back!

The hotel is wonderful! The staff are even better! I cant even begin to explain how attentive the staff was to our needs! This was my 1st time in Tulum and i dont think i want to stay anywhere else for my next visit! The only thing that was negative was on my part. I didnt realize how rocky the beach was and cut the top of my foot while in the water.
Again, my fault because the property offers water shoes....which i took full advantage of after my accident.

What a great place!

Maria and the other employees were wonderful! We were welcomed with margaritas. With only 5 rooms, often you have the beach to yourself. The Casa Altamar restaurant has wonderful breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks. The room was very clean every day and it was a wonderful place to stay on our trip.

We absolutely loved our stay at Casa Altamar! The staff is so friendly, warm and accommodating. I honestly don't think we've ever experienced a more welcoming staff during any of our travels around the world, everyone is seriously so kind! We had a team member come up to us and personally offer recommendations of what to do in the area which was appreciated. We also had an early flight and had to leave at 4AM in the morning, the night before they came down to our room and offered us coffee and fruit for the next morning. The little things meant to a lot to us! The location is very quiet in comparison to other areas of Tulum, which we enjoyed very much. Thank you Casa Altamar team for making our stay a memorable one!

Petit hôtel qu'on a adoré. Chambres propres, spacieuses et insonorisées. Douche avec eau chaude et débit (!!) assez rare apparemment au Mexique pour être souligné. Kayak, padle, masque et tuba en libre service.
Service aux petits soins quelque soit le membre du personnel. Tellement adorables que même si normalement le petit déjeuner n'est pas inclus, ils ne pouvaient pas ouvrir la cuisine du restaurant sans offrir un petit quelque chose. Il y a donc un petit petit-déjeuner servis, minimaliste mais très bon et fait largement l'affaire (surtout avec la vue !). On a tellement aimé qu'on a rajouté 1 nuit.

Le restaurant est vraiment très bon. Ne pas hésiter, surtout le midi, encore une fois pour profiter de la vue sur le ponton. Je recommanderais l'entrée de toast au thon, je crois n'avoir jamais un aussi bon thon.

Je mettrais juste un bémol sur le tarif des cocktails (12-15€ avec le tips). C'est prohibitif donc tu hésites ou tu partages un cocktail pour 2. Vaut-il mieux 15€ pour 1 ou 20€ pour 2 cocktails ? Seul le gérant saura répondre

Il faut aussi être préparé aux 500m/1km de chemin plein de trous avant d'arriver à l'hôtel. On était en berline relativement basse et ça n'a pas posé de problème.

Nettes Hotel mit recht einfacher Ausstattung, aber direkt am Strand gelegen. Die Aussicht von der Restaurantterrasse ist umwerfend. Das Personal absolut freundlich und zuvorkommend. Leider erschwert das viele Seegras den Zugang zum Meer. Aber es gibt einen Badesteg. Familien mit Kindern sollten dennoch ein anderes Hotel wählen.

Expedia sollte die Bilder überprüfen, mit denen für das Hotel geworben wird. Der abgebildete Pool bspw. gehört zum Nachbargebäude. Das ist etwas irreführend.
