Convenient and easy for seeing the turtles. The room was okay and all that’s needed. The organisation was slightly odd, a bit too much time waiting in a lobby whilst waiting for any kind of instructions. Arrived when told for the tour and were waiting for atleast 30 minutes before any clarity.

Stay away

Awful hotel both in design and operation. Bedsheets stained and dirty. No space or facilites for hanging out outside room (recognising you are literally in the middle of nowhere). Really poor value for money - this place is almost the same cost as a 5* hotel we stayed at in Oman during the same trip, but offered only 1* service.

The main attraction is of course the turtle viewing tours. Despite some reviews indicating these were insensitive, poorly run etc, our experience of these was very good. The evening tour was a group of 20, but we felt the guide managed it very well, taking care to interfere as little as possible in the amazing spectacle, often using sub-groups etc. The morning tour was quieter but definitely do both.

Hotel itself is fine - nothing special, but does the job well enough. It looks somewhat dated to be honest, but the rooms were clean and bed comfy, which is all you need here really. We found the evening food to be decent and very good value. Breakfast was not so great.

We visited in September on a weekday - so I can't speak for what it is like in other times / on weekends when it may be busier.

I was worried about going due to some of the reviews but in general the stay was fine for one night. The tent was clean , the bed was comfortable, shower and AC were good. The WiFi was none existent in the tents . The gentleman in reception in the morning was polite and one nice man in the restaurant also but some of the other staff were just rude which was a real shame . The restaurant buffet dinner and breakfast was great could not fault it . Those that like a drink they did not serve alcohol here which wasn’t an issue. The beach is huge and very quiet which was nice to walk along , there was nothing else to do here. Unfortunately we did not see the turtles as we waited around for an hour and half and gave up but others managed eventually saw some . It was ok for one night but they could make this so much better and encourage visitors to stay longer by improving the facilities in general

This hotel is in an excellent location for turtle watching and spending a day in the beach. The free breakfast is average, the dinner seemed to expensive (12 OMR) and we went to Ras Al Hadd instead. The eco tents need some renovation. Everything was run down and the tent material was moldy in most places. Even when we opened all windows, it still smelled. The bathroom was even worse.

The reserve is fabulous. This is a great location. The turtle watching was very special. Our guide on the first morning told us all to be quiet and not to use lights from our phones and created a really good ambience for turtle watching. It was lovely to walk together with other guests in silent expectation. Our other guide didn’t lay down the same rules and the group was noisier using phones and lights. Have a consistent standard please! We stayed in one of the Eco-tents that had hot running water and a flushing toilet and the ambience in the camp area is lovely. However, we question how ‘eco’ the tents are in terms of energy use. For example, the fridge was running at full blast whilst it was empty. The air-conditioning unit was very loud and noisy and blasted out air that was very dehydrating. Is there any way that this could be improved? Also if it is possible to avoid plastic water and plastic bottles of shampoo etc.this would help the environment. However, we notice that almost all the water bottles for sale in Oman are plastic bottles so the hotel can only do what it can. The rooms in the tents need refurbishing but probably like all hospitality, Covid has been a real setback to investment in updating things. The restaurant was good, with a variety of choices of food and the staff were very friendly and helpful and kept everything clean. The mocktails were the best we had during our visit to Oman! We had a very memorable stay at the Turtle Reserve and recommend it.

Lovely eco tent

Lovely eco tent. We were unsure about this accommodation as we were spoilt by 5 star luxury in Muscat but the tents had all the facilities we needed and was clean/ spacious.

We were unsure if we would see any turtles as it was off season but we saw 5 which was incredible.

My only concern would be the way the turtle visits are conducted. They say to be quiet and not use your torch/ flash but so many inconsiderate guests ignored this. The guides are very loud-not sure how upsetting this is for the turtles. Our guide also pulled a baby turtle that had only been born an hour before out of his pocket and then shone a light on it for all to see-it was quite distressing for the turtle.

I am not an expert but certain things seemed to be quite invasive for the turtles.

The food at the site was lovely and the staff were incredibly accommodating. Definitely would stay for a short stay again

Nice stay, and turtle watching

It was really great the first night in the tents. The second night though was very loud with some families and children running around making noise until 11 PM. The hotel did come and tell them they had to be quiet which was great, but since they are tents you may hear everything going on.

The restaurant food left to be desired especially given the price for the evening buffet. Otherwise the staff was very friendly and helpful and the tent we stayed in was great. Would recommence not having large families with noisy children in the tent area.

No elevator to guest rooms, no hot water in shower, very small window and feeling of being in prison. Cleanliness was ok, breakfast ok but far from great.
The turtle watching was poorly organized, masses of people waiting in the lobby and just poor quality announcement of turtles were present or not.

Disappointing experience and low quality hotel.

Unique stay

The eco luxury tents are nestled between mountains so it was a unique stay. The bed was big and comfy but the tv wasn’t working. The 2 times complimentary turtle reserve tour was great and interesting. More selections of food in breakfast. We arrived at the hotel at night but no staff assisted us going to the tent and it’s located away from the main building so we just searched the tent number by ourselves

Visit to Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve

It was an amazing experience visiting Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve. Staff are so patient with people (it was holiday when we came, so crowded but they were so patient); foods are great, our room was spacious, accommodating tourist guides.

Overall worth it! Although I wonder if they can have Room Service too :)

It’s located inside the turtle reserve, very close to the beach. That’s the point we stayed there because we wanted to join the turtle tour. Patience and long time waiting for low season of turtle nesting are typical I guess, so stay there is more convenient. It’s very basic but pricey

Great tents but questionable turtle conservation..

The eco tents were clean, in great shape with working a/c, showers and lighting. Definitely more glamping than camping - which was great.

My only reservation is about the turtle watching itself. It felt like there were too many people there in the evening one as it is open to everyone - and I can’t imagine this is great for the turtle population. It really felt like they took what was a lovely ideal and turned it into a commercial venture hidden under the guises of conservation. Not too impressed.

Great place to watch turtles

We very much enjoyed our turtle watching experience here which was educational, well organised and sensitive to the turtles and their environment. The hotel rooms were very convenient and it's definitely worth staying here as you get priority over external visitors and getting up at 5am is less of a hassle! The room was fairly basic - definitely not luxurious and quite dated. But that was not the main reason to visit. Beach and setting awesome too.

It's about the turtles! Saw several at night and in the morning, it was an amazing experience. No one else in the morning group so it was amazing being alone at the beach (guide was there) watching the turtles return to the sea. Beach is quite nice too, would've liked to spend more time....they allow access 6am-4pm.

Stayed at the \"luxury\" tent. But since used it only for sleeping and checked out at 7am (and \"luxury\" is relative) I would just opt for the normal room.

Amazing turtle viewing

This was my second stay at the turtle resort. The eco tents are really comfy and the morning turtle sightings are fantastic. I would definitely recommend. The WiFi isn’t good and the tents need a bit of TLC as the zips are coming apart but I wouldn’t expect anything less in a remote area and the reason you go is for the turtles not the WiFi.

Hotel mediocre but completely worth it for turtles

The turtle reserve is amazing; it was wonderful to see these magnificent creatures. The tour guides seemed to care about the turtles and their environment. As for the hotel, while the service was very nice and the room was clean, the walls are paper thin, the shower situation is not appealing, and the place is generally old and creaky with a ton of noise at night.

Good location but disappointing property

Good intention, calm serene place. As we went in August got to see lots of Turtle laying eggs, hatching, baby turtles, sunrise etc. Nice reserve but the property needs some makeover. Not at all true value for money. Highly priced for the rooms with very basic amenities, flush wasn't working properly. Water pressure in shower wasn't good enough. Not enough towels and blankets provided.Breakfast was good and the staff at the restaurants were helpful and quiet supportive.

I like that the property management/staff are respectful and competent with the turtle population that frequent their beach. The accommodation is a combination of respectful rules and regulations to protect the turtles and a clean and pleasant place to stay, which is important as the nearest town (Sur) is 40 kilometres away.

Eco tents looked amazing but were fully booked. Our room on the main hotel block was dated and funky. Nonetheless, I’d stay again any day. As a guest you are in the first group to see the turtles (amazing!). The restaurant food is good and the restaurant staff are super friendly and accommodating, especially for children.

We absolutely loved our eco tent. The night tour did not disappoint. We get to see a mother turtle covering her eggs, another mother hatching her eggs and hatchlings scurrying to the ocean. The dining facility was great, so was the food and the staff.

Ras Al Jinz Stay

We stayed just the one night which is all you need. Seeing the turtles up close was a once in a lifetime experience not to be missed. The hotel was not fancy but it was comfortable and we were well looked after. The hotel was not the reason we came here. The turtles were and we were not disappointed. There is no where to go in the surrounding area so do not arrive too early unless you want to just chill out. There is the museum which, though relatively small, is interesting. We will return with family or friends so they can share the experience

Turtley fine

Ras al Jinz is much quieter than Ras al Had, and this is the only option there. We stayed in the tents rather than the hotel which was a good experience. The room was quite comfortable although the bathroom flooded after each shower (unsurprising for a tent). Breakfast was OK. Recommend doing turtles in the morning - evening much too crowded which spoiled the experience. We were actually quite surprised how many people they allowed on the tours.

THE ONLY OPTION

As there are no other choices close to the turtle reserve it became my *home* by default - basic but comfortable with quite good food available on site in the evening (not included in the bed price) - knowledgable guides to escort you to experience the various stages of turtles nesting - the only downside was having to sit in the corridor outside the rooms (or in the reception area) to access WiFi which was hit/miss at times but overall worth the price due to the location and at least the A/C unit worked (albeit a little noisy!).

Very rude

The booking # 807881825781 had been modified twice with the last confirmation being for a rate of 85 OMD. Yet, the hotel insisted on charging an earlier rate of 105 OMD. When I objected, they became extremely unpleasant to the point of threatening me to charge me for 3 bookings they claimed had not been cancelled. It took more than 1/2 hour to prove them wrong.

We booked the tent which was well located and well furnished as well. However we could not stay in tent beyond 4 hrs due to high wind and moved to another hotel rooms.Food and breakfast was not having much of choice but was good .The best thing was we could see lots of giant green turtles coming to shore n laying eggs & going back to sea after completion procedures. Night time it was not fully clear but early morning around 5 am we could more and more turtles going back to sea .It was great trip.

A Great Natural Spectacle- Hotel is fine too

Look, you're here for the turtles not the hotel. The hotel does its job, the staff are generally friendly , the rooms are spacious. You're unlikely to stay more than one night anyway. So you could pick holes with the breakfast as some reviews have, but this is both inaccurate and irrelevant. The breakfast is fine, and even if it wasn't, so what? One lousy breakfast is worth a visit to unique natural phenomenon. The guides are knowledgeable and seem to care about both the turtles and guests, and the beach where the turtles come to nest is beautiful. One tip is that to make the most of the turtle visits, do stay at the hotel or the ecotents on site....you get two tours of the beach (night and dawn) included. You also get to go to the beach in 'Group 1' which is the priority group. If you stay offsite, you may save a couple of rials on the hotel, but then you'll have to drive at least 20km to get here for the turtle viewing, it will cost 5 OMR and you will get to go out in a lower priority group. I stayed in the onsite hotel, not the eco-tents. But I did explore the eco-tents....the setting is nice, but is not worth more than twice what a hotel room costs. It's also much further away from the turtles on a hill well above the beach, and I can see no reason to stay in the eco-tent vs the hotel...unless you just want to say you stayed in an eco tent!

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!!

We made our reservation through Expedia. When we got to the hotel there were people in the lobby complaining that there were no rooms available. When we showed them our CONFIRMED Expedia reservation they said \"sorry but we have no rooms\". They then verified they had received our reservation and even provided me with a written statement that they could not provide me a room. So including all of the people complaining in the lobby on this one night they were THREE rooms short. I learned from a local that this is a government run property and that this is fairly common. They then \"recommended\" a hotel that was run by someone they know. I have a suspicion this hotel may be taking extra bookings then sending over to their \"friend\". Expedia should IMMEDIATELY discontinue allowing booking of this property through their web site.

Night walk to view the turtles laying their eggs was an experience of a lifetime! Breakfast was included and had something for everyone. would definitely visit again!

Bitter sweet experience

The tents are very high quality and sturdy. There is no pool or other activities for kids other than the turtle watching, which is ok as long as you come prepared. The groups on the beach are quite big, and not as tightly controlled as they should be (too loud). I disliked that the guides did not take better control of the groups and that they overused their torches (stressed the turtles) and also that they plucked baby turtles from nests and moved them over to another beach in order to please the crowds and show them being \"released\" :(

Very expensive

It is a reserve, please remove plastic and glass bottle on the beach. Also, change trash bin on the beach. You can do other thing than press button on your mobile. For me, a Reserve is nature total respect. Very expensive for all. The dinner is expensive (not great food) and you need to pay for water, anything. Restourant service is very good (Indian people). The guide is perfect but experience to see turtule is marvelous.

Get the timing of your visit right

A long way to go to see 1 Turlte. Bu that the beauty of nature - it's unpredictability . Communication around the delays in guided tour was poor and front desk could do with some training. They appeared bored, disinterested and surly. Breakfast choices were good , dinner was mediocre. Thought the tent accommodation was great . Go in peak turtle season as not sure it's worth the trip down there otherwise.

An evening and morning trip to the beach were included in the price and we were upgraded to a luxury tent. Breakfast was included and we paid extra for a buffet style evening meal.
It is important that all visitors to see the turtles keep very quiet as we were prevented from seeing a turtle lay eggs because our group was very noisy and did not respect our guide's requests for quiet.
Nevertheless the whole package was good.

Definitely go to visit the turtles, spartan rooms

We stayed in the rooms, not in the tents. The rooms and the hotel are all a bit dated and very spartan. I would recommend to go for a tent if you plan to visit. You should DEFINITELY PLAN A STAY with them, because THE TURTLE RESERVE IS AMAZING! We have seen many turtles during our evening visit to the beach, at night again several turtles covering their eggs. The preservation is done very well and taken seriously by the Omani people who guide you during the tours.

a must

Everyone who goes there is because of the turtles, and it really worth it. But excluding these the hotel is not a great thing, is not well cleaned and the food is not good. The restaurant at night is only buffet and it doesn't have international food. It is overpriced but if you want to see the turtles there is not better option than these. Even thought the bad things I had mentioned is a must place to visit, you can not go to Oman and not doing these whole experience.
The museum was very nice. The guides weren t that good. All the people was in the lobby waitinig to start the tour and they didn t give any information, no one knew about the delay, when I asked they told me they were waiting to see if that night were some turtles at the beach( sometimes it can happen that the turtles don t show up), they could say at least this little information to all the guests expecting in the lobby. They weren t very nice the guides, the explanation was very good, but sometimes if an arabic person ask him in english a question he answered to that person in Arabic, and we were all interested in the answers! so i found that very disrespectful.

Not worth the money

The price is way higher than other hotels nearby only because it is located in Ras Al Janz turtle reserve. However, the rangers are on strike and the reserve is closed to the guests. Without this benefit, I think the price should be half of the normal rate.

Overpriced

The hotel is definitely overpriced (/night). The amenities listed were deceiving (the classic tent doesn't fit three people, the internet worked only in the reception area and was very slow, and the breakfast buffet had limited options). Reception staff were not friendly, with the exception of the manager. The gift shop wasn't staffed and the souvenirs offered were very limited, you can get better and cheaper variety at the airport. The library was never open during our stay. Going through the museum was educational but batteries ran out quickly on the self-guided tour radios. We stayed in a tent, which was interesting but there was no internet available there. Access to the beach was limited to the late-morning and early afternoon hours (very hot). We were charged close to $50/night for a roll-away bed (had to pay in cash with no receipt!), but ended up with a mattress, not a bed.

The most expensive 2 stars hotel

We spent only one night at the hotel but it was more than we can tolerate. The room had the most disgusting smell in it that did not go away, and putting the AC on made it even worse. It was so bad that we could not fall asleep even though we were very tired. Everything in the room looked and felt dirty.

Also the breakfast buffet was very poor with only few varieties and not enough food to feed everyone.

This hotel was more expensive than a 5 stars hotel in Dubai.

I do not recommend this hotel at all.

Resta un must have del viaggio in Oman.

Godt
